Note 1: The "Official Singles Chart Top 200" reduced to a Top 100 from the chart dated 07/07/2017, therefore all singles released after that date only have Top 100 chart runs. 'Side to Side' fell out of the chart from #119 and 'Into You' from #163 because of this change. 'One Last Time' and 'Santa Tell Me' initially charted when the chart was a Top 200, but have charted beyond 07/07/2017, so later portions of their chart runs are therefore Top 100 only.

Note 2: 'no tears left to cry' was removed from the chart on 24/08/2018 due to chart rules - only three songs from a lead artist are eligible to chart, and 'God is a woman', 'breathin' and 'sweetener' were the three highest placed Ariana Grande songs in this week. On 31/08/2018, 'no tears left to cry' re-entered due to being her third best seller that week, with 'sweetener' being removed from the chart.

Note 3: 'no tears left to cry' was once again removed from the chart on 25/01/2019 due to the above chart rules. '7 rings', 'thank u, next' and 'imagine' were her Top 3 songs in the chart that week.

Note 4: 'thank u, next' and 'imagine' were removed from the chart on 15/02/2019 (due to the aforementioned three songs chart rule). 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored', 7 rings' and 'needy' were the three highest placed Ariana Grande songs in this week. Two weeks later, on 01/03/2019, 'thank u, next' moved ahead of 'needy' as the third best selling song that week, and thus re-entered at #30, while 'needy' was removed from the chart.

Note 5: 'thank u, next' was removed from the chart on 05/04/2019; 'MONOPOLY' replaced it as Ariana's third best selling song of the week.

Note 6: 'Santa Tell Me' was prevented from entering the chart on 20/11/2020 due to only being her 5th most consumed song of the week. Only three songs from a lead artist are eligible to chart, and 'positions', '34+35' and 'pov' were the three highest placed Ariana Grande songs in this week ('motive' was fourth, also not eligible to appear in the Top 100). 'Rain on Me' placed at #85 in this chart week, but was exempt from the rule due to Lady Gaga being the lead artist. 'Santa Tell Me' was also absent from the 27/11/2020 chart. However it finally became her third highest song on 04/12/2020, re-entering at #16 - meaning that 'pov' was removed from the chart.

Note 7: Ariana Grande collaborated with The Weeknd on his releases 'Save Your Tears' (Remix) and 'Die for You' (Remix), however these were originally The Weeknd solo songs and the Official Charts Company only credited him, therefore their chart runs have not been included here.

Note 1: 'motive' was removed from the chart on 13/11/2020 due to chart rules - only three songs from a lead artist are eligible to chart, and 'positions', '34+35' and 'pov' were the three highest placed Ariana Grande songs in this week. Note that the first week sales noted for pov are from 13/11/2020, when it entered the chart at #22 - but technically this wasn't its first week. It wasn't eligible to chart in the previous week, which was its first week of availability.

Note 2: 'pov' was removed from the Top 100 on 04/12/2020 due to 'Santa Tell Me' out-performing it in that week. After Christmas, 'pov' re-entered on 08/01/2021.

Note 3: 'test drive' was a new entry on 26th February 2021, but left the chart the following week due to 'motive' being Ariana's third highest consumed song of the week.

Thanks very much for this Jay!

MTV aired an Ariana Top 10 for the first May Bank Holiday in 2017:

1. Jessie J ft Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj -- Bang Bang :: 1,040k
2. Ariana Grande ft Iggy Azalea -- Problem :: 770k
3. Ariana Grande ft Nicki Minaj -- Side To Side :: 720k
4. Ariana Grande -- Into You :: 650k
5. Ariana Grande ft Zedd -- Break Free :: 490k
6. Ariana Grande -- Dangerous Woman :: 480k
7. Ariana Grande -- One Last Time :: 475k
8. Ariana Grande ft Weeknd -- Love Me Harder :: 300k
9. Ariana Grande -- Focus :: 290k
10. Ariana Grande ft Mac Miller -- The Way :: 150k

Last known sales for 'Side to Side' was 860k as of September 2017. I'm reasonably confident its in the millionaire club at this point.

Ari has two new million sellers in the UK!

QUOTE
Thank U, Next’s latest triumph comes in the week when two songs by Grande top the million mark on overall consumption. They are 2016 No.14 hit Into You and No Tears Left To Cry, which reached No.2 in June. Into You ends the week on 1,001,914 sales, while No Tears Left To Cry is on 1,001,261. They are the third and fourth Grande singles to reach seven figures, following 2014 No.2 hit One Last Time (1,428,631 sales) and 2016 No.4 hit Side To Side (feat. Nicki Minaj, 1,102,132 sales)

"Thank U, Next" has also been certified Gold

Posted by: Jay ☆ Dec 22 2018, 06:58 PM

^ Great to see those two pass over a million! wub.gif

I'm thinking that Santa Tell Me should be able to pass Gold before its sales die down? It's on 354,279 now and I can imagine it selling 40k+ this week (remembering that sales going towards the total are in SCR).

Updated!

Santa Tell Me passed 400,000 sales as of 28th December, meaning it is now Gold certified. Exactly 1 year after it certified Silver! So we should probably expect it to go Platinum at the end of 2019.

Dangerous Woman & My Everything are back in the Top 100... their 103rd and 97th weeks inside the Top 100, so 200 weeks overall. ohmy.gif

Sweetener passed 200,000 sales this week.

The OCC have updated Ariana's top ten best selling singles but for some reason Bang Bang isn't included:

1. One Last Time (1,500,000 combined sales - 419,000 pure sales; 1,080,000 streaming sales)
2. Side to Side
3. No Tears Left to Cry
4. Into You (1,020,000 combined sales)
5. Problem
6. Break Free (687,000 combined sales)
7. Dangerous Woman
8. Thank U, Next (658,000 combined sales)
9. God Is a Woman
10. Santa Tell Me

I imagine Bang Bang will be the actual 2nd best selling, pushing Santa Tell Me to 11th, probably followed by Love Me Harder then Breathin? 7 Rings will likely be 9th very shortly and Thank U, Next will be 6th in about two weeks.

A bit confused at them saying that One Last Time is on 1.5m, given that it was on 1,448,586 on 11th January!

Their above data is up to 18th January. I'd have thought One Last Time would be on around 1,453,000 as of that date. OCC claim 1,499,000, so there's roughly a 46,000 discrepancy. unsure.gif

My Everything spent its 100th week in the UK Top 100 albums chart this week!

Posted by: Jay ☆ Feb 7 2019, 09:02 AM

Thread updated!

Joseph pointed out to me the other day that it's likely that 'thank u, next' (the song) will be removed from the chart next Friday (15th), given that it's on ACR and new songs will impact in album week. The same happened to 'no tears left to cry', it was absent for 1 week and then re-entered. I find it messy cry.gif

I'm wondering which 3 songs will chart for her next week! Obviously 7 Rings will be one of them, and I'm assuming Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored will have immediate impact. Could Imagine experience a surge, what with it being track 1?

Great that Yours Truly is coming for Gold! It passed 60,000 sales on 04/11/2016 and had sold 88,887 by 24/08/2018. I'm so impatient for Dangerous Woman to make it to Platinum! 21,280 sales to go.

There's a chance that Bloodline could replace Needy in the charts this week! It's midweek #12, but only 3 sales ahead of Needy. ohmy.gif

I'm wondering how long it'll take until Thank U, Next returns to the chart. This week it's still behind Bloodline, Needy, NASA & Bad Idea.

7 Rings and Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored keep swapping around in the UK midweeks, now it looks like 7 Rings will climb back up to #1!

Posted by: Jay ☆ Feb 22 2019, 06:07 PM

Ariana has replaced herself at #1 in the singles chart again, with '7 rings' moving back up to #1 (this is its fourth week on top) while 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' falls to #2.

'7 rings' has passed 400,000 sales and will be certified Gold!

'Sweetener' spends its 27th week inside the UK Top 40, which is her longest stay in the Top 40 albums chart so far ('Dangerous Woman' managed 26 weeks).

'thank u, next' album becomes Ariana's first album to spend 2 weeks at #1. Its second week sales of 31,404 brings its total to 96,620. Coming for Gold next week!

First female artist to replace herself at the top twice, and first ever to do it consecutively!

SLAYING! wub.gif

Yes at Side To Side, it really exceeded my expectactions, I remember hearing it on the album and thinking WOW that is a smash hit (shame Bloodline couldn't experience the same...), but I was really expecting, low top 10 placement and maybe a Gold cert. I was so HAPPILY wrong. laugh.gif

Posted by: Jade Jul 11 2019, 08:49 AM

Wow 'Dangerous Woman' ohmy.gif it's crazy to think that it only peaked at #17 and 'Into You' was only a few places higher. That era was at least rewarded kindly in terms of sales *.*

I was surprised the other day to see 'Dangerous Woman' as one of her songs in the iTunes top 1500, when checking for where 'in my head' was, while other bigger hits such as 'Side To Side' and 'Problem' for instance were absent. Slay those trickle sales!

Some exciting certification milestones on the horizon. <3

Posted by: Jay ☆ Jul 11 2019, 09:03 AM

^ I wish she'd managed some better peaks in that era! Into You deserved more than to stall at #14 for three weeks cry.gif Both that and Dangerous Woman stuck around for a long time though (those pre-ACR days *.* ) so at least they built up strong sales.

In a moment I'll have a look at the Top 13 charts that prevented Into You from charting higher, and the Top 16 charts ahead of Dangerous Woman, and see if any of those songs have actually sold less than Ariana!

Into You spent three weeks at #14 (in its 9th, 11th and 12th weeks in the chart). The songs below were all in the Top 13 during these three weeks.

- = a week that the song was either not in the chart, or was lower than Into You

Drake/Wizkid/Kyla - One Dance [#1, #1, #5]
Calum Scott - Dancing on My Own [#10, #4, #3]
Calvin Harris/Rihanna - This Is What You Came For [#4, #7, #8]
Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop the Feeling [#6, #11, #11]
Sia - Cheap Thrills [#9, #12, #13]
Chainsmokers/Daya - Don't Let Me Down [#7, #3, #4]
Drake/Rihanna - Too Good [#3, #6, #10]
Jonas Blue/JP Cooper - Perfect Strangers [-, #2, #2]
Kungs vs Cookin on 3 Burners - This Girl [#2, #5, #7]
Major Lazer/Justin Bieber/MØ - Cold Water [-, -, #1]
Shawn Mendes - Treat You Better [-, #9, #6]
Adele - Send My Love (To Your New Lover) [#5, #13, -]
Clean Bandit/Louisa Johnson - Tears [#8, #8, #12]
Galantis - No Money [#13, -, -]
Gnash/Olivia O'Brien - I Hate U I Love U [#11, -, -]
Kent Jones - Don't Mind [#12, #10, #9]

Into You has potentially outsold the following: Adele, Clean Bandit, Galantis, Gnash & Kent Jones. I'm not sure if any of those are likely to be millionaires at this point. Adele's song has sold 960,000 and that peaked at #5!

Dangerous Woman spent two weeks at #17 (in its 1st & 9th weeks in the chart).

Drake/Wizkid/Kyla - One Dance [-, #1]
Justin Bieber - Love Yourself [#11, -]
Justin Bieber - Sorry [#15, -]
Calvin Harris/Rihanna - This Is What You Came For [-, #2]
Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop The Feeling [-, #3]
Lukas Graham - 7 Years [#2, #15]
Mike Posner - I Took a Pill in Ibiza [#1, #5]
Shawn Mendes - Stitches [#8, -]
Sia - Cheap Thrills [#16, #4]
Alan Walker - Faded [-, #13]
Coldplay - Hymn for the Weekend [#9, -]
DNCE - Cake by the Ocean [-, #7]
Fifth Harmony/Ty Dolla $ign - Work from Home [#4, #8]
Jonas Blue/Dakota - Fast Car [#6, -]
Major Lazer/Nyla - Light It Up [#7, -]
Rihanna/Drake - Work [#5, -]
Twenty One Pilots - Stressed Out [#14, -]
Zara Larsson - Lush Life [#3, #9]
Desiigner - Panda [-, #12]
DJ Snake/Bipolar Sunshine - Middle [-, #10]
G-Eazy/Bebe Rexha - Me Myself & I [#13, -]
Galantis - No Money [-, #6]
Little Mix/Sean Paul - Hair [-, #11]
Tinie Tempah/Zara Larsson - Girls Like [#10, #14]
Zayn - Pillowtalk [#12, -]
Blonde/Craig David - Nothing Like This [-, #16]

At the very least Dangerous Woman deserved to outpeak Blonde! The songs that are 1xPlatinum here all went Platinum a lot sooner than Dangerous Woman did, so I assume they all have higher totals. I think Dangerous Woman might be very close to overtaking Little Mix - Hair though!

Does anyone know or know where I could find the streaming / paid for sales %’s for her album sales

I’m intrigued to see how her paid for sales are and how much streaming’s helped.

I asked a similar question in Duas forum too.

Singles wise is Problem still her most “bought” single by paid for sales despite it being far from her biggest with sales / streams
or is that Bang Bang?

Thanks for that Liam *.* the 13 - 15 area is very bunched up so 'Santa Tell Me' should fly ahead of the two above it with ease this festive season.

Wow look at 'thank u, next' go, so close to her top 5. It's been surreal to see 'Into You' as part of that very top tier but 'thank u, next' did feel genuinely massive!

Posted by: Medellíam Oct 19 2019, 08:30 AM

Boyfriend having a third of the sales of Girlfriend seems so disproportionate. Obviously going Platinum is a success, but a #1 not reaching 1m chart sales is a bit of an underperformance these days. It felt like there was hype for about a month and then completely disappeared.

Posted by: Jay ☆ Nov 10 2019, 01:42 PM

thank u, next (song) must be very close to double platinum; it had sold 1,193,829 as of 1st November!

Posted by: Jade Nov 10 2019, 02:01 PM

Ooh ohmy.gif 'thank u, next' only turned one last weekend so that's some speedy success, looking forward to seeing that milestone materialising wub.gif

Also yeah Liam, it's a shame that 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' didn't see much sustained success. 'thank u, next' and '7 rings' felt absolutely massive, but 'break up...' easily appeared to be the least relevant #1 after a short while. Which is understandable for a third single and seems silly to say about a #1 hit, but it really did seem to run out of steam quite quickly. I think the timing of its release was just perfect, while she was on top of the world. But it didn't call for much longevity after the initial excitement.

Imagine if she debuted just a few years earlier!

She’d probably have an actual million selling single in pure sales and some albums over 600K. Not to say she hasn’t done amazing though. She’s practically been the biggest female since streaming took over actually as Problem was the first ever number one to include streaming sales and she’s got bigger since.

I’m here for her getting another one too with AG6! It’s also so strange to see an artist with album sales so close to one another. Like she had four now what are rather close in sales she’s really overcome that market decline and transition into streams like you say! thank u, next I could possibly see overtaking dangerous woman albums wise eventually as well would you say that’s possible?

Posted by: Jade Feb 25 2020, 09:38 AM

Yeah 2011 - 2013 was such a strong time for pure sales, I recall quite a lot of songs on the Million Sellers list being released during that time. Sadly the 'Yours Truly' era didn't quite set the charts on fire during that period, if only x I'm glad that 'My Everything' at least got to experience bigger sales for her before the album market collapsed. She's truly a streaming juggernaut though as you say, her and Rihanna are the unstoppable queens of that field with all their hits.

As for 'thank u, next' passing 'Dangerous Woman', I guess it's not out of the realms of possibility as the former is still in the top 100 while the latter is not, so it's in a stronger position with trickle sales. It just needs to overcome that gap. Could do with a top 40 boost out of somewhere!

Posted by: Liam.k. Feb 28 2020, 03:39 AM

I wouldn't say she necessarily has overcome the declining album market. Her chart career has largely existed within the modern streaming age, she doesn't seem to appeal to those who buy physically, so the declining market wouldn't affect her as much as it would others. She's also been fortunate that in the time album sales have declined, her popularity has continued to soar so they kinda cancel each other out anyway. That'll be why her album sales are relatively similar.

I have thought that it's strange she doesn't seem to attract more physical purchases than she does though, considering she's the biggest artist in the world right now. I know I acknowledged her main demographic are those that stream, but fanbases usually buy physicals and she must have a bigger fanbase than most. You'd have also thought than artist so huge would attract more older audiences who prefer to buy physically.

Yeah what I mean is that she’s managed to raise her profile more and more with each era, so as a result she’s still able to achieve platinum selling albums now, a feat that not many 2019 albums achieved in the U.K. - I think less than 10? So she’s doing fine to have one of the 10 best selling albums of last year. Nothing mind-blowing (I’d only have those expectations for Adele nowadays laugh.gif), but yeah, another platinum album under her belt is nothing to be sniffed at!

Her fanbase do appear very rabid on social media but they need to get on BTS’ fans levels with the physicals kink.gif

Excellent! wub.gif Last known figure was 105,967 on 29th March 2019, 51 weeks before the silver certification.

I've updated the thread cheer.gif

Sweetener came dangerously close to leaving the Top 200 (#195 on 20th March), but climbed to #170 the following week.

My Everything re-entered at #179 this week, beginning its 12th separate run in the Top 200 and its 261st week in the chart ohmy.gif

Sadly Dangerous Woman hasn't been in the chart since January 2020. From 27th April 2018 to 1st November 2019 (80 weeks), Dangerous Woman was higher in the chart than My Everything in 75 of those weeks, with My Everything only moving ahead of it for 5 weeks. From 8th November 2019 to date, Dangerous Woman has only outperformed My Everything in one week (6th December 2019). Kind of interesting that My Everything consistently sells more than DW at the moment!

Needy deservedly becoming the first certified album track from TUN wub.gif

Updated!

Sweetener fell out of the Top 200 a couple of weeks ago, after 86 weeks in the chart. My Everything is still Top 200. Kind of surprised that My Everything streaming is supposedly stronger than Sweetener at the moment.

Posted by: JulianNial Apr 26 2020, 02:40 PM

Thanks again Jay! That is surprising seeing that you'd expect the singles from sweetener to be streaming quite strongly.

^ Thanks Liam! Added those to the singles post.

I've also updated the thread with:

Stuck with U - chart run and sales
Rain on Me - template, in advance of it charting

The last 4 weeks of positions for My Everything, Dangerous Woman, Sweetener and thank u, next [Dangerous Woman and Sweetener both re-entered on 1st May and have remained in the chart since then!]

New sales totals:

422,085 - My Everything
340,201 - Dangerous Woman
327,931 - thank u, next
313,619 - Sweetener

Those 4 albums have sold ‭1,403,836‬ combined! I think Yours Truly will have exceeded 120,000 by now.

I don't think it had registered with me how close thank u, next was to Dangerous Woman for Ariana's second best selling album.

Well, I say 'close', it'll be quite a while yet for it to overtake since its only currently outselling it by ~400 copies a week.

A summary of Ariana's peak positions with singles (singles where Ariana has a lead artist credit). I'm going by what Wikipedia lists as her singles - apparently four of the songs from Christmas Kisses count as being singles:

2014 | #01 - Problem (feat. Iggy Azalea)
2014 | #01 - Bang Bang (with Jessie J & Nicki Minaj)
2018 | #01 - Thank U, Next
2019 | #01 - 7 Rings
2019 | #01 - Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored
2015 | #02 - One Last Time 1
2018 | #02 - No Tears Left to Cry
2019 | #02 - Don't Call Me Angel (with Miley Cyrus & Lana Del Rey)
2016 | #04 - Side to Side (feat. Nicki Minaj)
2018 | #04 - God Is a Woman
2019 | #04 - Boyfriend (with Social House)
2020 | #04 - Stuck With U (with Justin Bieber)
2018 | #08 - Breathin
2015 | #10 - Focus

2016 | #14 - Into You
2014 | #16 - Break Free (feat. Zedd)
2016 | #17 - Dangerous Woman
2019 | #23 - Monopoly (with Victoria Monét)
2013 | #41 - The Way (feat. Mac Miller)

2013 | #92 - Last Christmas
2013 | #113 - Right There (feat. Big Sean)
2016 | #123 - Everyday (feat. Future) 4
2013 | #132 - Love Is Everything
2013 | #145 - Baby I
2013 | #151 - Snow in California
2013 | #155 - Santa Baby (feat. Liz Gillies)

1 One Last Time first charted in 2015, but its peak position was achieved in June 2017.
2 Santa Tell Me first charted in 2014, but its peak position was achieved in December 2018.
3 Love Me Harder first charted in 2014, but its peak position was achieved in January 2015.
4 Everyday first charted in 2016, but its peak position was achieved in April 2017.

Her four singles that peaked in the 11-20 area of the chart all deserved Top 10! sad.gif

2018 | #64 - Dance to This (with Troye Sivan)
2017 | #120 - Quit (with Cashmere Cat)
2013 | #177 - Popular Song (with Mika)

She's yet to have a particularly big hit as a feature in the UK, and I wonder if she ever will - I assume a lot of her future collaborations will have her as "[Artist] & Ariana Grande" instead (like Rain on Me)!

2016 | #183 - Thinking Bout You

Yasss Jay! Thanks for that, WHAT a discography and chart history she has. So many massive hits that didn't even touch top 40, let alone top 10. 'Love Me Harder's' peak still bewilders me, did the radios not support it here?

Don't get me started on 'Break Free' being blocked from top 5 because of that STUPID chart rule. I think that was her only song affected?

Posted by: Jordan Lee May 24 2020, 10:49 PM

Love those new updates!

Ariana I think was the first major popstar to really break through in the UK as a result of streaming being added to the chart and a lot of the times in her earlier career here she wasn’t getting high peaks but she was getting long lasting hits! She was like the first of a kind for the new meaning of hits where it’s not about the peak but the chart run.

Love that Dangerous Woman, thank u, next and sweetener are all so close in sales too. thank u, next i think could edge ahead in months to come but there’s not much in it at all!

It’s funny except from #10 every position she’s went to in the top ten she’s done multiple times yet she’s never peaked at 3,5,6,7 or 9 laugh.gif Santa Tell Me to peak at #10 this year to continue the trend pls.

Yep - a travesty sad.gif but it had great longevity in the top 75 considering: 66-57-57-50-51-58-56-64-55-54-55-{48}-56-58-61-72

It did reach the top 10 in the US though! Such a weird discrepancy drama.gif

Sweetener fell out of the Top 200 a couple of weeks ago, after 86 weeks in the chart. My Everything is still Top 200. Kind of surprised that My Everything streaming is supposedly stronger than Sweetener at the moment.
I know this was a month ago, but I just saw this yesterday and was intrigued by it so I wanted to run the Spotify numbers to see if they tell the same story. Here are the Spotify plays (worldwide of course) for all her albums' tracks within the month of April 2020:

That adds up to:

+87,789,492 - total 4,167,232,095 - thank u, next
+46,832,672 - total 2,851,252,851 - Sweetener
+38,277,212 - total 3,613,759,375 - Dangerous Woman (not including 'Focus')
+37,134,843 - total 3,741,612,314 - My Everything
+12,104,480 - total 868,634,705 - Yours Truly

Since the OCC rules amount to essentially counting the average of the #3-#12 most played tracks, that amounts to:

4,227,571 - thank u, next
2,290,444 - Sweetener
2,099,298 - Dangerous Woman
1,908,422 - My Everything
628,045 - Yours Truly

So the Spotify numbers do put 'Sweetener' ahead, but it's pretty close (enough that it's not hard to see Apple Music, YouTube, UK-specific Spotify etc making the difference where the OCC is concerned). 'My Everything' benefits a lot from having 5 big singles; when it comes to less-popular album tracks, 'Dangerous Woman' and 'Sweetener' are certainly doing better, but the 4th and 5th biggest 'My Everything' tracks are considerably ahead of the equivalents from the other 2:

The curse of moving onto a new album era 3 months after the previous one.

Don't get me started on 'Break Free' being blocked from top 5 because of that STUPID chart rule. I think that was her only song affected?
That was a real mess, but I don't think it would've made the top 5 without the rule. It only reached http://www.itunescharts.net/uk/artists/music/ariana-grande/songs/break-free-feat-zedd/, and the week it spent in the top 10 there was split between chart weeks thanks to the mid-week release. It also only reached https://kworb.net/spotify/track/7cvxrDu7VIhVSOFRNgPegv.html, and that was several weeks later.

The big culprit is the release non-strategy - it was like they planned to hold it back (kind of understandably since 'Problem' was held back so long in the UK that 'Break Free' came out elsewhere only 4 days later), but then changed their mind halfway through - maybe because they felt it had gone too far when 'Bang Bang' was already out elsewhere and on pre-order in the UK by then - and dumped it out in the middle of a random week (and with no consideration to the chart rules; they surely could've kept 'Problem' as a separate single, in which case 'Break Free' would've been eligible as the one instant grat). Either releasing it immediately or committing to the hold-back surely would've been better.

'Best Mistake' was also affected, and it reached http://www.itunescharts.net/uk/artists/music/ariana-grande/songs/best-mistake-feat-big-sean/, but fell fast enough that it wouldn't have charted high anyway.

I can't remember if 'Love Me Harder' lacked radio support, but I think it suffered from being... ahead of the curve in the transition from sales to streaming. It did better on streaming (it reached #24 on UK Spotify and spent months in the top 40), but sales were dominant and provided 5 new held-back releases each week to keep it down. It was similar in Australia (minus the held-back releases) where it reached #6 on Spotify but only #19 on the official chart. I imagine it would've done better a year later.

Stuck With U #8 on the sales chart with less than 2k though frankie.png I wonder how much her last three albums have actually sold? Interesting that Sweetener is only her 4th most popular in the UK atm, but is her 2nd worldwide.

Ahh thanks for the clarification!

Anyway! Wow guys! ohmy.gif Thanks so much for all of this information, I find it all so interesting. happy.gif

OCC have given an update on Ariana's Top 20 biggest songs:

QUOTE
Ariana Grande's biggest singles on the Official Chart revealed
21 October 2020 | By Rob Copsey

In just seven years, Ariana Grande has gone from TV child star to purveyor of top notch pop.

Her arrival into music in 2013 was a near-instant success, but since 2018, Grande's powers have gone stratospheric, her albums Sweetener and Thank U, Next breaking multiple streaming records.

With the release of Ariana's sixth album Positions imminent, we reveal her Top 20 biggest songs in the UK - based on Official Charts Company data - that have helped her rise to the top. First, a look at some highlights.

Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored
Chart peak: 1
Combined sales: 808,000

Its brilliant title aside, Break Up... was also a record breaker. The Max Martin-helmed track knocked her previous single 7 Rings down to Number 2 the week of its release, making Ariana the first female artist in UK chart history to replace herself at the top of the chart.

Santa Tell Me
Chart peak: 13
Combined sales: 681,000

As is often the way with original Christmas songs, Ariana's ludicriously cute festive offering had a modest start on the Official Chart, peaking at Number 79 in 2014, largely noticed only by her fans. It's since earned its place as a worthy addition to any Christmas playlist and has enjoyed an annual resurgence for the past three years, reaching Number 13 in 2018 and 2019.

Thank u, Next
Chart peak: 1
Combined sales: 1.44 million

Taking control of the narrative around her whirlwind romance with ex Pete Davidson, Ariana dropped thank u, next moments before Davidson had planned to reference the relationship in a skit on Saturday Night Live. Expressing gratitude to her name-dropped exes and empowering messages of self-love, the single became a global phenomenon, smashing records including most YouTube views in a video's first 24 hours (55 million).

Break Free
Chart peak: 16
Combined sales: 837,000

After channelling ‘90s R&B and 1960s girl groups on her debut album Yours Truly, Ariana went into full on pop banger mode for her 2014 follow-up My Everything. Break Free showcased the shift best; assisted by EDM whizz Zedd, it’s colourful, life-affirming and was easily one of her boldest releases. What’s more, the quite frankly ridiculous Barbarella-inspired video proved she had personality.

Into You
Chart peak: 14
Combined sales: 1.29 million

The second single from Ariana’s Dangerous Woman album has taken on cult status with Ariana fans as the often forgotten gem in her crown after it ‘only’ reached Number 14 on the Official UK Singles Chart and 13 on America’s Billboard Hot 100. It’s a relentless, throbbing, immaculately put together Max Martin production that doesn’t let up for a full four minutes and four seconds. If time is not of the essence, check out the six essays (!) written about it on Maxopedia – a fan site dedicated to all of Max’s work.

One Last Time
Chart peak: 2
Combined sales: 1.79 million

A modest hit when it was released in 2015 as the fifth single from her My Everything album, One Last Time – a love song set at the end of the world - took on new meaning in the wake of the Manchester terrorist attack, which claimed the lives of 22 people and injured over 500 at her arena concert. One Last Time was adopted by fans after the attack and climbed to Number 2 on the Official Singles Chart. With a total of 419,000 downloads and 108 million streams, it's her biggest hit overall to date.

Thank you for posting! heart.gif

I wonder when 7 Rings is due to go double platinum? I know streaming ratios in 2016 were more favourable but it does look funny to see Into You still ahead of it!

Break Free still above Break Up... *.*

Posted by: jlj Oct 21 2020, 02:31 PM

no tears left to cry still ahead of every thank u, next era track including 3 #1s is deserved!

I was expecting thank u, next at #3.

Santa Tell Me will probably enter her all time top ten due to it charting every year.

Rain On Me to enter her top ten as well pls.

Posted by: Blade Oct 21 2020, 05:43 PM

Poor brave 'Don't Call Me Angel' nowhere to be seen kink.gif feels weird that 'Bed' is bigger than it but there we go.

G'won 'Love Me Harder' heart.gif I wonder if that'll have a small resurgence due to Ariana and The Weeknd supposedly collaborating again on her new album.

Posted by: jlj Oct 21 2020, 06:00 PM

Crazy that she has so many top tens and in her all time top ten (currently) there’s three non top ten tracks there!

Bed is definitely a surprise I didn’t remember it being so big laugh.gif

This time next year that list could look so different with the new era, and potentially Rain On Me and Stuck With U moving up. And then Santa Tell Me with its seasonal boost.

Posted by: JulianNial Nov 10 2020, 10:48 AM

Yay!! Justice for the 3 should have been singles!

She needn't have worried about chart positions and sales of them if they became singles, she should have been a good sister, gave us some visuals and thrown the songs to radio. It would have been quite simple for her back then. She could have used the same set from 'boyfriend' in any of the 3.

#13 - 34+35 (up 4 places) [20,634 sales this week]

['pov' doing well has prevented 'Santa Tell Me' from entering the chart. 'Santa Tell Me' would have been Top 40 if the three above songs weren't outdoing it. Theoretically, if 'pov' wasn't in the chart and 'Santa Tell Me' was Ariana's third highest song, then it would have been #36 with 10,037 chart sales. Its actual sales without ACR applied were 20,634, enough to be #22 in the "old rules" chart.]

Excellent news wub.gif I need to update the list of her certifications!

Posted by: Jay❄ Jan 9 2021, 06:09 AM

Singles Certifications Update

I've attempted to put most of the singles in order of best selling.

Some of the most recently known sales are over a year old. This is why the sales I've written below look to be out of order (for instance 'no tears left to cry' - 1,278,404, ahead of 'thank u, next' - 1,440,000).

In October 2020, OCC provided us with this http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=214826&view=findpost&p=6681161, which means we know that:

'no tears left to cry' was ahead of 'thank u, next', therefore 'no tears left to cry' had sold more than 1.44m
'Dangerous Woman' was ahead of 'Break Free', therefore 'Dangerous Woman' had sold more than 837k
Otherwise, we know that 'God is a woman' had sold less than 808k (which is what 'break up...' has sold), but more than 735k because that is how much 'Rain on Me' had sold by 16th October. 'Problem' obviously must still be ahead of 'Santa Tell Me'.

I assume that 'Stuck with U' (Gold on 25th Dec 2020) will have already passed 'boyfriend' sales total (Gold on 11th Dec 2020)

I'm sure a few of the 200,000 sellers have currently sold more than 34+35, but I've placed 34+35 above them all due to a lack of information. All the 200,000+ sellers are listed in the order of least recently certified, to most recently certified.

I've attempted some estimates, but please take these with a pinch of salt! I've probably overestimated. As of 8th January 2021:

1,107,000 - Problem
855,000 - Break Free
588,000 - Love Me Harder
370,000 - Everyday
356,000 - The Way

Bed and Focus must be getting quite close to 400,000 thinking.gif

Could God is a woman have exceeded 800,000?

I assume Dangerous Woman must be somewhere between 850k to 900k - I have a feeling it might still be slightly ahead of Rain on Me.

We really need a no tears left to cry update! Can it please overtake Bang Bang x

Posted by: JulianNial Jan 9 2021, 03:26 PM

Thanks so much for the update! biggrin.gif

WOOOOWW!! Is all I can say. I'm pretty shocked 'Focus' isn't Gold already, I imagine it would have been long ago if it was included on an album. They should have tacked it onto the end of 'My Everything' or as a streaming bonus track to 'Dangerous Woman'.

What a stacked certifications list cheeseblock.png thank you again Jay!

Fully here for 'no tears left to cry' overtaking 'Bang Bang' kink.gif that and 'One Last Time', regarded as two of her best on here, being her top 2 sellers would be quite something *.* slightly making up for the "her #1s aren't representative of her best songs" sentiment if those two are actually outselling.

15th January update!

236,163 - 34+35
121,477 - pov

'34+35' spends its 10th week in the Top 20, making it 1 of only 4 Ariana singles to manage that long! Of course most of her biggest hits since 2017 went no further than 9 weeks because of ACR coming into effect, which is an artificial restriction. Nevertheless it's great to see 34+35 avoid ACR and achieve this longevity. Ariana's longest time in the Top 20 is 13 weeks with 'Bang Bang'. I wonder if '34+35' could outdo this? ohmy.gif

Weeks in the Top 20:

13 - Bang Bang
12 - Side to Side / thank u, next
10 - 34+35
9 - Problem / no tears left to cry / God is a woman / 7 rings / break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored / Rain on Me / positions
8 - breathin / Stuck with U
7 - One Last Time / Santa Tell Me
6 - Into You
5 - boyfriend
4 - Break Free
3 - Dangerous Woman / Don't Call Me Angel
1 - Focus

Ariana's album sales in 2020 (unfortunately I have no idea about Yours Truly or k bye for now (swt live)!):
85,243 - Positions
74,566 - thank u, next
45,491 - Sweetener
44,489 - My Everything
43,592 - Dangerous Woman

Average sales per week in 2020:
1,407 - thank u, next
858 - Sweetener
839 - My Everything
822 - Dangerous Woman

Ariana's album sales in 2021 (only two weeks so far):
6,646 - Positions [week 1: 3,366 / week 2: 3,280]
2,706 - thank u, next [1,328 / 1,378]
1,873 - Dangerous Woman [913 / 960]
1,814 - My Everything [911 / 903]
1,796 - Sweetener [903 / 893]

~~~~
My Everything being her best seller is obviously helped along by its age (it's 334 weeks old), so I thought I'd do some comparisons with their sales at various different stages.
243 weeks
371,552 - My Everything [19th April 2019]
369,223 - Dangerous Woman [15th January 2021]
126 weeks
341,214 - Sweetener [15th January 2021]
251,253 - Dangerous Woman [19th October 2018]
207,837 - My Everything [3rd February 2017] (This was actually its 128th week on sale; its 126th week was 20th January 2017 but I don't have its sales from this week)
101 weeks
370,505 - thank u, next [15th January 2021]
320,863 - Sweetener [24th July 2020]
222,244 - Dangerous Woman [27th April 2018]
179,406 - My Everything [29th May 2016] (This was actually its 92nd week on sale; its 101st week was 29th July 2016 but I don't have its sales from this week)
11 weeks
190,172 - thank u, next [26th April 2019]
128,187 - Sweetener [2nd November 2018]
91,888 - Positions [15th January 2021]
53,000 (approx) - Dangerous Woman [5th August 2016]
52,412 - My Everything [9th November 2014]
Glad you've both liked the recent updates, JulianNial and Jade wub.gif
It's interesting that so far in 2021 (albeit we're only 2 weeks in and we're talking about a handful of copies separating them lol) Dangerous Woman has outsold Sweetener and My Everything, despite those two outselling it in 2020!
It seems that only 'thank u, next' has a slight chance of overtaking 'My Everything' eventually, but it wouldn't be for a few more years, and it relies on 'tu,n' continuing to outpace 'ME' by a sizeable margin (but that gap is closing... 'ME' sold 59.67% of 'tu,n' in 2020, but in 2021 it's currently 67%).
Lana's most recent entry in her all-time Top 10 is also her most commercial pop moment; a collaboration with Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus for the Charlie's Angels 2019 reboot. Helmed by super producer Max Martin, the finished result didn't quite live up to its hype, but Lana should be commended for not comprimising her moody aesthetic on this slick pop banger.
I've updated the thread! heart.gif
My Everything spent its 299th week inside the Top 200 on Fri 9th April, and in the midweeks on Mon 12th April it was #181, so it seems like 300 weeks is guaranteed on Friday! Rather shockingly though it was higher in those midweeks than thank u, next, which was midweek #196. If thank u, next remains lower than My Everything on Friday, that'll be the first time that My Everything places higher than that album.
Honestly the tenacity of My Everything seems so strange to me... for it to be regularly ahead of Dangerous Woman & Sweetener is one thing, but now it's on the verge of outdoing thank u, next on a weekly basis mellow.gif
Posted by: Juliannnial Apr 14 2021, 05:37 PM
Thanks so much for the update Jay!
I'm going to assume that that 'My Everything' is remaining strong due to it's 5 smash hit singles vs the other 2 albums that only had 3 singles, that seems to play such a huge part of the album charts these days. If Ariana chooses to release an International 'Greatest Hits' at some point it probably won't leave the charts until the next millennium. laugh.gif
Posted by: Jay❄ Apr 17 2021, 05:48 PM
^ Imagine that! laugh.gif Maybe she should consider it, after all The Weeknd's compilation is doing rather well!
Chart updates:
My Everything's 300th week in the chart is confirmed cheeseblock.png It climbed to #170, with 895 sales. 29 physicals + 8 downloads, 858 streaming.
thank u, next rallied in the end - it's #154 with 949 sales. 54 physicals, 3 downloads and 892 streaming.
Dangerous Woman has re-entered for its 216th week in the chart, at #196. 831 sales (Surprisingly it has relatively strong physical sales - 84 copies! - as well as 6 downloads and 741 streaming).
Not forgetting that Positions climbed to #4! 5,010 sales. 3,389 are physicals, just 6 downloads ohmy.gif and 1,615 streaming. I fear its drop this week if its physical sales collapse...
In the singles chart, only Met Him Last Night is in the Top 100 - down 10 places to #54.
'Stuck With U' has sold 457,320 as of w/e 3rd June (source: Music Week).
Posted by: -Jay- Jun 22 2021, 07:04 AM
I've updated up to 18th June!
Unfortunately I didn't get the 11th June chart. My Everything and thank u next albums were both in the chart on 4th June, but neither are in the Top 200 on 18th June, so I don't know yet whether either of those albums was still in the chart on 11th June. Hopefully I'll be able to find out at some point.
The most interesting chart happening this week is k bye for now re-entering the chart at #193! It sold 894 copies. 842 of that was physical, as well as 50 streaming sales and 2 downloads. Its total is now 10,660.
Its total a week earlier (11th June) was 9,766. Its first week sales were 1,475 on 27th December 2019, so that means it sold 8,291 in 76 weeks - an average of 109 copies a week (this week's sales suggest that it only does about 50-ish sales a week usually). At that rate it'll take 19 years for it to go silver kink.gif
Posted by: -Jay- Jul 22 2021, 09:09 AM
Update 16th July:
My Everything has now had 20 separate chart runs in the Top 200! Its most recent re-entry was on 9th July at #191, and a week later it was down to #197. It has spent 310 weeks inside the Top 200. Total sales now stand at 473,517.
thank u, next (album) is no longer in the Top 200. Its 122 week run came to an end with its final (to date) position of #195 on 11th June. However we do have a more up to date total for it - 396,326 as of 16th July.
Positions (album) total sales: 148,631
Rain on Me total sales: 1,093,635
Last known total for 34+35: 536,531 on 25th June
A big single from Ariana and John taken from the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, the release of this song imitates a similar trick Disney used throughout the 90s, hiring popular singers of the day to cover songs featured in the film. The original, sung by Angela Lansbury, lands in the Top 100 at Number 53, proving this really is a tale as old as time.
An updated UK sales list for her top 5 single sales!
The OCC posted this for her 30th birthday smile.gif
Posted by: Jord Jun 26 2023, 01:37 PM
Upon looking at the top 20 on that list is Bang Bang missing? I’d have definitely have thought it had sold enough to make the top 20 of her hits it was pretty huge wasn’t it?!
Posted by: Jade Jun 26 2023, 05:14 PM
Ooh yes OCC!! Also thought the same about 'Bang Bang' though - that is usually pretty high up whenever I've seen Ari sales countdowns on MTV.
Just going off the first page on here Bang Bang was on 1.5 million sales in 2020!
I guess that it could be around third officially? Bit of a big one to miss off though.
I didn’t actually realise that no tears left to cry was ahead of all the thank u, next #1s though (I mean I did think it was a lot bigger than break up with your gf, I’m bored), but I really thought that thank u, next and 7 rings were ahead of it in combined sales so I’m glad that’s not the case. It was just super unlucky that the song at #1 during its release was One Kiss.
Maybe I'm having a Mandela effect with MTV countdowns as I've just noticed that 'Bang Bang' is omitted in the latest one Liam posted also thinking.gif it definitely did used to be quite high up on some kind of music channel 'biggest Ariana hits' style countdown I'm pretty sure laugh.gif
The 5 year anniversary of 'no tears left to cry' means that its strong sales keep coming up in the throwback top 10s in the weekly chart show thread, it really was so unlucky cry.gif both of her top 2 being #2s!
Not far behind is Ariana Grande's perky pop original Santa Tell Me, written with frequent collaborators Savan Kotecha and Ilya Salmanzadeh, which comes in at Number 2 with 1.6 million UK chart units in total. Released in 2014, the song peaked at Number 11 on the Official Singles Chart in 2020.
Santa Tell Me has also racked up a total of 181 million streams in the UK so far
My Everything quite a bit ahead now (I remembered her top 3 all being super close). Not much at all between Dangerous Woman and thank u, next though. Hoping we see a figure for the other albums at some point. I thought we may have with Yours Truly re-entering last year.
That may be it Jade! I guess Bang Bang we can guess is somewhere between 3-5.
Santa Tell Me at some point may manage #1 on her best sellers list do we think as it has 5 weeks of managing pretty big sales. Although the other tracks may get streams all year around.
I do like it but I wouldn’t rate it as high as her signature songs but it’s the power of those December streams isn’t it.
EDIT: Just also noticed that Don’t Call Me Angel isn’t showing on there either but that’s another one where she has a “Grande” credit. They show up under her chart history page though.
Weekly wise do we know what it’s roughly pulling and if it’s got the highest weekly sales from her pre eternal sunshine albums. I think it’ll likely cross the mark possibly by the end of summer or perhaps earlier if her catalogues been boosted with the new era.
Posted by: Jade Mar 29 2024, 03:53 PM
eternal sunshine has swiftly been certified silver cheer.gif
Posted by: -Jay- Apr 6 2024, 11:10 AM
I'll update the albums section soon!
Ariana's weeks in the Top 200:
#7, 21 weeks - Yours Truly (1 more week since the last update)
#3, 315 weeks - My Everything (3 more weeks since the last update)
#1, 223 weeks - Dangerous Woman (6 more weeks since the last update)
#1, 109 weeks - Sweetener (2 more weeks since the last update)
#1, 131 weeks - thank u, next (8 more weeks since the last update)
#135, 2 weeks - k bye for now (swt live)
#1, 73 weeks - Positions (25 more weeks since the last update)
#1, 4 weeks (so far) - eternal sunshine
I just need to find all of those chart positions!
I had a quick look and I'm surprised to see that none of her previous albums re-entered the Top 200 when eternal sunshine entered at #1, and they haven't in the weeks that have followed. Yet My Everything, Dangerous Woman & thank u, next all re-entered when 'yes, and?' came out!
Posted by: -Jay- Apr 10 2024, 04:19 PM
I've finally updated the thread in its entirety! cheeseblock.png
It's a pity that we don't have more recent sales totals for Yours Truly, Sweetener and Positions... I'm still feeling salty that Music Week only gave a figure for My Everything x
Here's what we know:
581,902 - My Everything (15th March 2024)
494,000 - thank u, next (1st March 2024) [from an article published by OCC on 5th March 2024]
486,000 - Dangerous Woman (1st March 2024) [from an article published by OCC on 5th March 2024]
377,862 - Sweetener (11th March 2022)
197,339 - Positions (27th May 2022)
133,823 - Yours Truly (6th August 2021)
75,317 - eternal sunshine (5th April 2024)
Some estimations! -
440,000 - Sweetener
Less than 300,000 - Positions (because we know it isn't Platinum yet - but I'd be surprised if it's not getting close by now)
170,000 - Yours Truly
I assume Dangerous Woman has passed 490k, I don't think thank u, next will quite have made it to 500k yet and My Everything must be close to 585k.
Considering how successful Ariana is, it feels surprising that she's yet to achieve a multi-platinum album! My Everything will definitely achieve that a bit later this year.
Posted by: Jordanlee Apr 10 2024, 05:08 PM
Aside from eternal sunshine what’s recently released is My Everything her album with the most weekly sales now or is that thank u, next?
I do hope that it’lll get to 600K at some point this year. Whilst her sales may look “low” compared to other pop icons I think they’re pretty strong and consistent for the streaming era.
Like these days 600K copies of an album is what 1m+ was like in the 00s decade. Hopefully by year end she’ll have three albums on 500K+. What’s interesting re Ariana is that I imagine her catalogue in general streams well but it’s all split across different eras where as other artists have that one big peak era (like say Teenage Dream).
Posted by: Jade Apr 12 2024, 03:16 PM
Thanks Jay for taking the time to update this thread in full wub.gif
New update today, ‘we can’t be friends (wait for your love)’ becomes Ari’s latest silver single after 5 weeks of charting 🤍
