Biography

Westlife is an Irish pop vocal group, which formed in 1998 in Dublin, disbanded in 2012 and reunited in 2018. It was originally signed by Simon Cowell in the UK, Clive Davis in the US and managed by Louis Walsh and Sonny Takhar. The group currently consists of Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, and Shane Filan.

The group rose to fame with their debut international self-titled studio album, Westlife (1999). Followed by Coast to Coast (2000), World of Our Own (2001), Unbreakable – The Greatest Hits Vol. 1 (2002) and Turnaround (2003) which continued the group's success worldwide. Before the start of their Turnaround Tour in 2004, one of the original line-up member Brian McFadden departed from the band. The four remaining members continued as a group to release their cover albums Allow Us to Be Frank (2004) and The Love Album (2006) and the studio albums Face to Face (2005) and Back Home (2007). The band has received numerous accolades including one World Music Award, two Brit Awards, four MTV Awards, four Record of the Year Awards and overall with a total of 91 awards and 19 nominations (individual members' awards not included) so far. As a live act, Westlife have sold 5 million concert tickets worldwide from their twelve concert tours. American Idiot is fantastic, I have the album on vinyl!

There are always a lot of random urban track in the top 40 these days with sort enogh chart runs simply because of streaming and the people that stream! It's huge at the moment I guess. I only like certain artists like Stormzy/Dave/Skepta.

Biography

Manchester-based MC Bugzy Malone exploded on the indie grime scene in 2015, racking up 18 million views plus a MOBO nomination that year for Best New Artist. He made his debut in 2010 with the Swaggaman mixtape, and Why So Serious followed in 2011, while Lost in Meanwhile City dropped in 2012. His "0161 Manny on the Map" T-shirts began to be spotted in 2014, a ramp-up year that featured the release of The Journal of an Evil Genius, a mixtape supported by six straight weeks of new video uploads. His 2015 appearance on BBC Radio 1Xtra's freestyle show Fire in the Booth received millions of views within the month it was uploaded; then the Stereotyped mixtape landed before the official release Walk with Me appeared on the Grimey Limey label. The debut EP climbed into the Top Ten of the U.K. albums chart.

Malone saw more success with his subsequent EPs; 2016's Facing Time once again dominated the U.K. Top Ten upon its release. That same year, Bugzy put out a trilogy of music videos entitled Section 8(1), with each video intended to accompany one of three singles from the Facing Time EP: the title track, "Beauty and the Beast," and "I Suggest." The young MC's success became the ultimate catalyst for his burgeoning workflow, and his prolific output produced another release not long afterward with 2017's King of the North EP. The effort featured U.K. 2-step garage duo DJ Luck and MC Neat. The following year, Malone returned with his proper debut album, B. Inspired. Biography

Biography

Coming on smart, sassy, and strong, like an indie Missy Elliot, Minneapolis rapper and singer Lizzo arrived in the Twin Cities with a hard sound and stance, thanks to her Texas roots and time learning the ropes with crews like Atlanta's Crime Mob. Born Melissa Jefferson in Houston and raised in Detroit, Lizzo earned her moniker when she joined the uniformly named members -- Lexo, Nino, and Zeo -- of the Cornroll Clique. A 2011 move to Minneapolis found her fronting Lizzo & the Larva Ink while joining the neo-TLC-type group the Chalice. Her work began to intertwine with the city's indie scene, which included artists like Gayngs, Doomtree, Marijuana Deathsquads, and Har Mar Superstar; listening to a copy of Doomtree producer Lazerbreak's album Lava Breaks brought her out of a long case of writer's block.

Inspired by Lazerbreak's work, she recorded the album Lizzobangers with the producer plus Gayngs member Ryan Olson. The album was released in 2013 on the Totally Gross National Product label. After making guest appearances on tracks by Prince & 3rdEyeGirl ("Boytrouble"), Clean Bandit ("New Eyes"), Bastille ("Torn Apart"), and Sean Anonymous & DJ Name ("Cold Shoulder"), Lizzo released her second full-length album, 2015's Big GRRRL Small World, on her own BGSW label. In October 2016, Lizzo made her major-label debut with the EP Coconut Oil, which was released by Atlantic's Nice Life imprint. The following year saw her drop the singles "Water Me" and "Truth Hurts," with "Fitness" and "Boys" arriving the following year. In February 2019, Lizzo issued the title track from her full-length Cuz I Love You, whcih arrived later that April. - iTunes

West London grime MC Che Wolton Grant (aka AJ Tracey) rose through the ranks of pirate radio, becoming one of the leading figures in U.K. grime's second generation of artists. Grant knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue a career in music, due in part to his parents; not only was his dad a former rapper from Trinidad & Tobago, his mother was a former drum'n'bass DJ from Wales. By age six, Grant had started writing rhymes, coinciding with the first great boom in grime. Although the genre temporarily lost its way, Grant soldiered on, unwilling to give up on his passion for grime. By the time he had reached his early twenties, grime had started another upswing. During this time Grant became proactive in his pursuit of radio spots, working his way up through pirate radio before scoring appearances on Rinse.DM, NTS, and eventually even BBC Radio One. With his reputation in the world of radio firmly cemented, Grant released a string of EPs, beginning with The Front EP in July 2015, followed by the Alex Moran EP later the same year. Freya Ridings is a London-based singer, songwriter, and pianist with a notably rich, soulful vocal tone. Mark Daniel Ronson (born 4 September 1975) is a British musician, DJ, songwriter, and record producer. Although his debut album Here Comes the Fuzz (2003) failed to make an impact on the charts, his second album Version (2007) reached number two in the UK and included three top 10 singles. This earned him a Brit Award for Best British Male Solo Artist in 2008. His third studio album, Record Collection, was released on 27 September 2010, peaking at number two in the UK. He is also a member of Silk City with Diplo.

In 2014, Ronson achieved his first UK and US number one single with "Uptown Funk," which featured vocals from Bruno Mars. The song earned Ronson the 2015 Brit Award for British Single of the Year, and the 2016 Grammy Award for Record of the Year and Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. His fourth studio album, Uptown Special, was released in January 2015, and became his first UK number one album and also peaked at number 5 in the US.

Ronson produced "Cold Shoulder" on Adele's first album, 19. He received acclaim for producing Amy Winehouse's album Back to Black, for which he won the Grammy Awards for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, Best Pop Vocal Album and Record of the Year for the single "Rehab". He has won Record of the Year twice, in 2008 as a producer and in 2016 as a performing artist. Little Mix are a British girl group formed in 2011 during the eighth series of the UK version of The X Factor. They were the first group to win the competition, and following their victory, they signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Music and released a cover of Damien Rice's "Cannonball" as their winner's single. Kygo turned the dance-music world on its ear in the simplest way possible: by slowing down. Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was an American singer and actress. She was cited as the most awarded female artist of all time by Guinness World Records and remains one of the best-selling music artists of all time with 200 million records sold worldwide. She released seven studio albums and two soundtrack albums, all of which have been certified diamond, multi-platinum, platinum, or gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Aubrey Drake Graham (born October 24, 1986) is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, and entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur, Drake has founded the OVO Sound record label with longtime collaborator 40. Drake gained recognition as an actor on the teen drama television series Degrassi: The Next Generation in the early 2000s. Intent on pursuing a career in music, he left the series in 2007 after releasing his debut mixtape, Room for Improvement. He released two further independent projects, Comeback Season and So Far Gone, before signing to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment in June 2009.

Biography

There aren't many young rap pretenders who could write a track one week, shoot its video the next, then watch it fire to nearly half a million plays and counting seven days after that. Then again, most young MCs aren't Young T & Bugsey, the Nottingham duo whose fierce, eclectic hip-hop - as evidenced on quickly-assembled new single 'Gangland' - has turned them into ones-to-watch, championed by Stormzy, Tim Westwood and many more.

"Our sound is the both of our cultures and backgrounds without any kinda boundaries or restrictions," say the pair, who collide murky, bass-heavy beats with sounds from their childhoods: ad libs borrowed from their respective Nigerian and Jamaican parents' record collections, grime flows inspired by school days rapping over instrumentals nabbed from YouTube, and hooks paying homage to lazy sofa sessions in front of MTV Base. "50 Cent, Snoop, Pharrell - that era was it for us," laughs Young T. "Hot summer days, you'd still be inside watching MTV Base, the whole day."

Young T & Bugsey met aged 15, having been aware of each other's DIY recordings on separate sides of the city. When they eventually linked up, first as part of a collective before zeroing in on their chemistry as a duo, they quickly found themselves to be on a similar level, musically and otherwise. "We each bring something to the table that the other maybe wouldn't," says Bugsey. "We're very different in a lot of ways but in other ways exactly the same. And we've grown up together from there. My problems are his problems, his problems are my problems."

Building their project from a community arts space in Nottingham's St Ann's area, their grind towards the brink of blowing up began with a debut single, '1st Quarter', which was followed by more tracks, each one building their buzz in the local region and beyond. Then came a chance encounter with Stormzy behind the scenes of a Westwood Crib session in 2015. "We were bare young and thought: we gotta rap for him," says Bugsey. "He started rapping with us, so we're there going back to back with Stormzy. He felt what we were doing and we're grateful to say he's been really supportive since."

Since then, breakout singles 'Glistenin' and 'No Mickey Mouse Ting' have further helped establish them as on a mission. "Shooting the videos for those felt like a moment for Nottingham," say the pair, who call the city a big influence on their identity. "When you're not from London, when you accept you're an outsider in those terms, it's like, bruv, if you can get your city behind you, then you're good." With more singles, festival dates and a long-form project on the horizon, it'll be the world next. - Primary Talent

Biography

Delivering hazy trap and hedonistic rap verses on tracks such as "Gucci Mane" from their 2018 debut Any Minute Now, D-Block Europe are a London-based rap duo featuring Dirtbike LB and Young Adz.

The two rappers met while at school in South London — LB was impressed with the skill Adz exemplified on his first track "Da Prodigy," released when he was just 13. The pair struck up a friendship, with Adz going on to sign a deal with Universal and gaining a following with his mixtapes. The pair began to collaborate in 2014; however, they decided to spend the next two years honing their craft to achieve a unique mix for their project. They made their first appearance in 2017, releasing the singles "Love of the Money" and "Large Amounts" on D-Block Records. The duo gained recognition with the tracks and with continuous support from the BBC's Fire in the Booth and the Westwood Crib Sessions. The two went on to work with various other artists including Not3s and Don Andre. D-Block Europe released their debut LP, Any Minute Now, which featured Yxng Bane in July 2018. Biography

By combining elements of alternative hip-hop with Jack Johnson-esque cabana pop on early demos, Naples, Florida's Dominic Fike went from unknown to major-label signee in 2018. His debut EP, Don't Forget About Me, Demos, arrived later the same year.

After some demos emerged in 2017, Fike, then in his early twenties, was well covered in the music press for signing a multi-million-dollar deal with Sandy Boys and Columbia Records before even releasing a song. Strike a Pose one of the few urban tracks to climb the chart these days. Seems that they all peak high and fall in the 90s chart way whereas most other songs climb!

Biography

A London-based grime MC of Ghanaian heritage, Stormzy made a swift rise in the early 2010s to become one of the U.K.'s most critically-acclaimed artists. Climbing out of the underground grime scene, he made his breakthrough in 2017 with his platinum-certified, chart-topping debut, Gang Signs & Prayer. Within half a decade of the release of his debut EP, he was a Glastonbury festival headliner. Born Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. in the south London town of Croyden, he launched his career clashing at youth clubs around his hometown. His performances evolved from grime-only music that showed a love of artists like Skepta to more rap-oriented material that reflected Stormzy's growing appreciation for artists like Drake. Radio stations can be inconsistent with what words it censors, and what was once not needed to be censored suddenly becomes such and vice-versa. For years, I heard "Walk On The Wild Side" by Lou Reed uncensored, but in recent years radio stations now bleep out the word "head", probably because people are now more tuned in to its alternative meaning.

Biography

Chris Brown arrived in the mid-2000s as a squeaky-clean teen R&B artist with "Run It!," the first debut single by a male artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 in over a decade. While there was nowhere to go but down, at least in terms of chart positions, the singer and occasional rapper was only getting started, despite the swift decline of his wholesome image. By the end of the decade, he was one of the biggest active pop stars, with a clutch of Top Ten singles and platinum albums to his credit, along with constant comparisons to a young Michael Jackson and several acting roles on the side. His momentum slowed little despite pleading guilty to assaulting girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. His commercial clout remained, as his successive albums into the next decade topped the Billboard all-genre and R&B charts.

Brown came from a small Virginia town called Tappahannock. Like a lot of kids born in the mid- to late '80s, he was initially into his parents' favorite music but eventually fell under the spell of hip-hop. Around the time he reached puberty, he discovered his singing ability and switched his focus away from MC'ing. A move to New York led to being discovered by Tina Davis, a Def Jam A&R executive who became the singer's manager shortly after losing her position in the Sony-BMG merger. The Jive label, due in part to its track record with younger artists who had established longevity (like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake), won the bidding war for Brown and lined up several production and songwriting heavyweights, including Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, Dre & Vidal, Sean Garrett, and Storch, for his self-titled first album. An immediate Top Ten hit when it was released in 2005, Chris Brown not only featured the number one "Run It!" but two other Top Ten singles in "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" and "Say Goodbye." Exclusive, released in 2007 and a bit of a departure from the squeaky-clean image he displayed throughout his debut, was even more successful, featuring the number one single "Kiss Kiss" and two other Top Five hits. Yet another Top Five hit came with "No Air," a duet with Jordin Sparks that appeared on Sparks' own self-titled album.

In March 2009, Brown was charged with felonious assault of Rihanna -- an altercation that had prevented his then-girlfriend from taking the stage at the Grammy Awards. Brown was scheduled to perform as well, but he did not appear and maintained a low profile for several months. A fairly substantial backlash resulted in Brown's songs being pulled from rotation on several radio stations. Ultimately, however, it had little bearing on the progress of his music and acting careers; the week prior to the December release of his third album, Graffiti, the single "I Can Transform Ya" was well on its way to reaching the Top 20 of the Hot 100, and his acting roles -- which had already included spots in Stomp the Yard and a recurring role on The O.C. -- hadn't shown any sign of drying up. Graffiti fell considerably short of gold-selling status, but it was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Contemporary R&B Album, and the Tank collaboration, "Take My Time," was nominated for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Weeks after the 2011 Grammy Awards ceremony, Brown released his fourth album, F.A.M.E., which already had four singles on the charts. That album topped the Billboard 200 and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts, and it also took the 2012 Grammy for Best R&B Album. During the ceremony, he performed a medley of "Beautiful People" (off F.A.M.E.) and "Turn Up the Music," the latter of which previewed Fortune, his fifth album, released in May 2012 and an immediate chart-topper in the U.S. Brown toured Asia, Europe, and Africa during the rest of the year, and prepped his sixth album. A sequence of several singles that began with "Fine China" preceded X, released in September 2014, two weeks after he pleaded guilty to simple assault (for an altercation with a man that had occurred the previous October). Less inspired by European dance-pop and more R&B-oriented than his previous release, the album included contributions from Lil Wayne, R. Kelly, Usher, Rick Ross, and Brandy, among many others. Four of its singles peaked within the R&B Top 10. Only five months after the release of X, Brown and Tyga, who had previously teamed up for one of those singles -- "Loyal," as well as the earlier "Deuces" -- teamed up for Fan of a Fan: The Album. By the end of 2015, Brown released Royalty, his seventh proper album, which was propped up by the Top 20 pop hit "Back to Sleep." The following year, Brown issued singles such as "Grass Ain't Greener" and "Party" as preludes to the 45-track Heartbreak on a Full Moon, released in October 2017. In his short time as a professional DJ/producer, Avicii, a.k.a. Sweden’s Tim Bergling, did more for the commingling of dance music with other genres than anyone before him. He essentially reenvisioned EDM as a place where booming 4/4 beats and neon synths could be worked into the songwriting structures of soul, bluegrass, and country—and end up not sounding like EDM at all. Once you got over the initial shock, the uplifting melodies made it all feel pretty natural. Before his suicide in 2018, Avicii had completed roughly 75 to 80 percent of the tracks that will make up his forthcoming posthumous LP, Tim, overseen by producers and songwriters Carl Falk, Albin Nedler, and Kristoffer Fogelmark. Its first single, “SOS,” moves in a similar direction as the folksy vibe of 2017’s Avīci (01) EP. It’s a dance-pop tune, sure—with gentle nods to Balearic beat and a bit of New Wave—but its laid-back ’80s soft-rock rhythm and rich vocals from Aloe Blacc, who helped announce Bergling’s arrival on 2013’s “Wake Me Up,” give it that unique Avicii touch, pulling from a manner of styles but still hewing to something you can spend a night on a beach dancing to. Biography

Tim Bergling (Swedish: [tɪm ²bærjlɪŋ]; 8 September 1989 – 20 April 2018), known professionally as Avicii (/əˈviːtʃi/, Swedish: [aˈvɪtːɕɪ]), was a Swedish electronic musician, DJ, and songwriter, who specialized in audio programming, remixing and record producing.

At the age of 16, Bergling began posting his remixes on electronic music forums, which led to his first record deal. He rose to prominence in 2011 with his single "Levels". His debut studio album, True (2013), blended electronic music with elements of multiple genres and received generally positive reviews. It peaked in the top ten in more than fifteen countries and topped international dance charts; the lead single, "Wake Me Up", topped most music markets in Europe and reached number four in the United States.

In 2015, Bergling released his second studio album, Stories, and in 2017 he released an EP, Avīci (01). His catalog also included the singles "I Could Be the One" with Nicky Romero, "You Make Me", "X You", "Hey Brother", "Addicted to You", "The Days", "The Nights", "Waiting for Love", "Without You" and "Lonely Together". Bergling was nominated for a Grammy Award for his work on "Sunshine" with David Guetta in 2012 and "Levels" in 2013. Several music publications credit Bergling as among the DJs who ushered electronic music into Top 40 radio in the early 2010s.

Bergling retired from touring in 2016 due to health problems, having suffered stress and poor mental health for several years. On 20 April 2018, Bergling committed suicide in Muscat, Oman. Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer and songwriter. After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager. Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson under her birth name in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. Biography

West London grime MC Che Wolton Grant (aka AJ Tracey) rose through the ranks of pirate radio, becoming one of the leading figures in U.K. grime's second generation of artists. Grant knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue a career in music, due in part to his parents; not only was his dad a former rapper from Trinidad & Tobago, his mother was a former drum'n'bass DJ from Wales. By age six, Grant had started writing rhymes, coinciding with the first great boom in grime. Biography

Birmingham-based grime MC Mist rose out of the mid-2010s grime resurgence, proving that you don't have to be from London to be taken seriously in U.K. rap circles. Mist, like most grime artists, started out by dropping numerous mixtapes and freestyles, which very quickly started racking up millions of views online. Although Mist's lyrics contained well-worn tropes concerning making money and life on the streets, he also delivered very honest bars about the loss of his parents and how his life changed as a result. During his early career, Mist collaborated with fellow Birmingham resident and producer Shadow, who would create languid yet melodic beats for Mist to navigate. In 2016, Mist really began to break through; early in the year he stepped up to Fire in the Booth, a renowned feature on Charlie Sloth's BBC Radio 1Xtra show. The end of the year saw the release of the M I S to the T EP, which featured two standout singles "Karlas Back" and "Ain't the Same." 2017 found Mist embarking on a U.K.-wide tour, including stops at Koko, London, and Manchester O2 Ritz. - iTunes

Biography

Like the music of her mother and father -- Neneh Cherry and Cameron McVey -- Mabel McVey's first releases weren't easy to classify, but were rooted in R&B with a level of maturity beyond her age. Born in Spain and raised in London and Sweden, McVey showed a deep interest in music during early childhood and studied music production. Her parents didn't know that she was writing music until she was 16. Before she turned 20, she released her debut single, the independently released "Know Me Better" -- a moody, yearning piece of breakbeat soul.
