How I compile my charts:

With a few exceptions, I don't go out of my way to seek out new songs - I usually wait until I hear them on the radio. I mainly listen to Radio 1 and for this reason, most (though not all) songs in my chart are those which are played on Radio 1. I don't usually add a song to my chart until it's started gaining some airplay.

Songs generally tend to climb gradually as they grow on me, peak and then fall fast, so the chart looks similar to an 80's/90's singles chart. I also usually get bored of a song within a few weeks, so songs don't generally tend to hang around the chart for more than a few weeks - typically around 9 or 10 weeks for a Number 1.


This week's chart commentary:
* So One Direction hang on for a 4th week with 'Night Changes', not only becoming this year's Christmas #1, but also serving as their longest running #1 on this chart, bettering their previous longest running #1 'One Thing' which spent three weeks at the top.
* The previous three Christmas #1 have been: 'Little Me' by Little Mix (2013); 'Losing You' by Solange (2012); and 'Levels' by Avicii (2011).
* It's a great week for Olly Murs, as 'Up' does exactly what its title demands, and climbs 12 places to #3. Despite his 10 previous Top 10 hits, Olly has never peaked higher than #3 on this chart, so could this potentially become his biggest hit next week?
* Oliver Heldens' 'Koala (Last All Night)' becomes the Dutchman's first Top 10 hit on this chart by climbing to #6.
