Pet Shop Boys climb to number one!
Congratulations to Pet Shop Boys, who climb two places to get a second number one with Say It To Me. The track reaches the summit in its tenth week on the chart. Subsequently, Kindly Calm Me Down falls a place to #2 after a week at number one. The other Pet Shop Boys song in the top 5, The Pop Kids falls one place to #3, after being toppled from number one last week. Clean Bandit and Louisa Johnson climb 4 places to #4 with Tears. Tom Odell falls one place to #5 with Magnetised. His album Wrong Crowd is released today, with the title track entering at #12. Silhouette and Somehow also enter at #37 and #83. Wherever I Go climbs a place to #6, while Hymn For The Weekend falls two places to #7. At Night (I Think About You) climbs 9 places to #8, No Money falls three places to #9 and Ashes To Ashes climbs back a place to #10. Other notable tracks The Stone Roses enter at #17 with Beautiful Thing, immediately outdoing its predecessor All For One, which peaked at #36 and is currently at #54. With the Euro 2016 tournament kicking off tonight (France vs Romania at the Stade de France), the definitive football anthem, Three Lions, climbs 34 places to #20. It thereby just outdoes its 2014 peak, during the FIFA World Cup, where it reached #21. Just Like Fire climbs 24 places to #26. With growing success in the UK Charts, This Girl jumps 45 places to#29, and is set to climb further as it is stands as the prime contender to topple One Dance from the top. Meanwhile, Alan Walker's second effort, Sing Me To Sleep, climbs 12 places to #31. His first hit, Faded, which was the first song by a Northamptonian since James Morrison's I Won't Let You Go (in 2011) to reach the UK top 10, peaked at #9, and currently sits at #32, one place below. MK & Becky Hill continue to make progress, climbing 9 places to #33 with Piece Of Me. Also new to the top 40 are Groovy (climbing 6 places to #39) and Up & Up (climbing 7 places to #40). Groovy succeeds in making the top 40 in its tenth week, while Up & Up gets there in its third. Of course, it has a long way to go before even hoping to match the success of its predecessor, Hymn For The Weekend, which has spent 19 weeks in the top 10 so far. Following the lawsuit against Sheeran for allegedly ripping off Matt Cardle's Amazing, Photograph re-enters at #65. The lawyer for the prosecution is the same who won for the Gaye family in the infamous case where Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams had to pay $7.3 million for ripping off "Got To Give You Up" by Marvin Gaye on "Blurred Lines". In the discussion of the lawsuit, it was mentioned that Amazing itself wasn't dissimilar to Snow Patrol's How To Be Dead. Following my own personal investigation into this claim, that song enters at #69. M.O. enter at #77 with Who Do You Think Of?. Following the release of Paul Simon's new album Stranger To Stranger, Bridge Over Troubled Water re-enters at #93.
