Quite a while away, but the plan is for a single in April and album in June 2017! Exciting.
The singer is currently working on her eighth studio album, her first since leaving RCA - the record company she had been signed with since winning American Idol in 2002. Kelly is now signed to Atlantic Records who are supporting her new “soulful urban pop” collection.

Speaking to People Magazine, the three-time Grammy winner confirmed that new material will land in 2017, and there is a clear trajectory of when Kel's next music will be in our ears:
"We are hoping the single will be in April, and then the album in June," explained Kelly. "It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever done. It’s the first time I got to pick my label, because I just got out of my Idol contract. I’ve been dying to make this record since Idol."
Kelly believes that this new style of music from her will be her most authentic yet. “It’s very much my personality,” she said. "I think it’s very much what people expected from me off of watching me on Idol. After having a career for so long, it’s so weird that nobody knows [my sound]yet, so it’s going to be so good."

Kelly was named most successful winner in American Idol's history, having sold an estimated 25 million albums worldwide. When Official Charts caught up with the singer last year, she told us she felt like it was "time to really spread my wings and really try something new," on her next album.
"Basically, there are too many options," she explained. "I’ve thought a lot about doing a dance record as well. I’m sure I’ll do them all at some point - I’m just excited to now have the freedom to do whatever I want."

Kelly has a voice that would easily suit most genre's of music I find and I think each of her albums so far have shown this. SO ready for another album though, it doesn't feel like a year ago Piece By Piece came out!

SO excited. The invites seem very classy and I suspect she will go down that route for the album. Maybe something Adele-esque. As has been proven numerous times, she could expertly pull it off!

'Love So Soft' is apparently the title of the lead single. I need this in my life like, yesterday.
If she's on the Today show in 2 weeks.... single out on September 1st? Or perhaps she'll drop it on Thursday 7th.

Right! It's probably her best since All I Ever Wanted, as basic as the artwork for that was. The font is bizarre but hopefully she reads that people are unhappy with it and changes it.
"Move You" is also very strong, it's feels very 'album track' at the moment but I could also see it doing well later into the campaign, like "Piece by Piece". Loving this era already!

I agree with Sean that "Love So Soft" is very Meghan Trainor but more second era when she became a bit rubbish. Not really keen on the spoken-ish chorus but I wasn't keen on Heartbeat Song either and quite liked the last album so my hopes are still high.
"Move You" is definitely the stronger of the two for me but it's just a classic ballad really with not much else to it so I can't see myself returning to it much

I really like Love So Soft, not so keen on Move You, it sound a little too "gospel choir". I can't wait to see the rest of the album. I also hope she goes on tour, she owe us (Montreal) a show since she cancelled PXP

I'd be interested to know what size venues she'd go for - shes a global act but I can't see her selling out arenas like she was able to two or three albums ago.

Move You slays. It's definitely my fave of the two but I am a sucker for a gospel choir. 'I Had A Dream' was one of my ultimate highlights of PBP! Her voice is just flawless. Def my fave vocalist probably ever.

Move You is amazing!
I guess it is what she really likes and how the album
will sound. 'Love So Soft' looks more like an imposition of the record company trying to get a hit with a more comercial sound.

Interesting article about her working relationship with Dr Luke from Billboard:
Kelly Clarkson has revealed she willingly lost "hundreds of thousands of dollars," "or millions," in royalties for refusing to associate herself with Dr. Luke as a co-writer on her 2009 single "My Life Would Suck Without You."
In a new interview with Z100, the singer said, "I was making a point to the people working with me, going, 'This is how much I didn't want to do this.' I don't care about the money. I don't care about, oh, 'You're going to be the most famous person ever if you do this.' That's not what holds weight in my life."
Last year, Clarkson alleged that those who worked at her record label at the time, RCA (owned by parent company Sony), said they would not release her album if she did not work with Dr. Luke.
While she insisted her experience with Dr. Luke is nothing like Kesha's alleged experience -- "He didn't do anything like that with me," she said in the Z100 interview, referring to Kesha's allegations of abuse and her ongoing legal battle against the producer -- the former American Idol star is just "not a fan" of him.
"There's a lot of times in my career where you don't see my name on the song and that's because sometimes I don't write them," she explained. "A lot of times I do change the song in a way that probably you should ask for credit, but I don't because the song was already great -- I just made it more me. I think a lot of artists steal credit a lot from writers, which I think is super crappy 'cause that's their livelihood."
"If I deserve it, I usually ask," she continued. "And I did deserve it on that song just 'cause I changed it a bit," she said of "My Life Would Suck Without You," which went to No. 1.
"Basically, they were gonna sit on my record unless I did what they wanted. I was so frustrated because I literally said, 'Anyone in the world but this one person. I will work with anyone you want to put in my path.' I love people. I think that's apparent. I think I'm a nice person, that's apparent. It was just this one thing, and I asked not to work with Dr. Luke just because I had not a good experience with him," said Clarkson. "If an artist like me, I generally love everyone. You have to really be a special kind of ... for me not to like you."
"They brought up writing credit at the end," she went on. "They were like, 'Well, you changed the song.' And I was like, 'I don't want my name near his. I want to pretend this didn't happen in my life and I want to forget it.'"

Surprised that they're still going ahead with the current release date seeing as both "Love So Soft" and "Move You" have bombed everywhere. Not complaining but she probably should have waited for Q1 if she wants a decent peak for the album.

Kelly hasn’t cared about commercial success or performance since My December tbh, think she’s probably quite happy putting out the music she likes, regardless of whether the single is a hit anywhere.
Like Jonjo said I reckon a top ten album is a given, she’s a big enough name to generate some good starters.

I love Kelly but it did frustrate me how it hadn't been thought out. The fact she cited vocal reasons to cancel and then appear on a few big slots such as Idol did annoy me a little bit. She has said though she doesn't plan on having anymore children so I think a world tour for 2018 is definitely a viable option!

FFS. She's just in a completely different league to everyone for me. Hamilton has been on my to watch list for a while, but hearing this version just sealed the deal and I must see it asap.
No one gives me emotion and sincerity the way Kelly does. I'm literally shook at that cover

Oooooh thanks for posting that - preordered a signed copy, so excited for Friday!
However.... “ThA BaNgEr is the final track Go High. Remember when listening to Take You Higher in her previous LP made us think "What?! Is she on acid? Or am I?" Well, Go High is a close cousin of TYH but with no drug problem” doesn’t fill me with confidence as TYH is easily up there as one of my most disliked tracks in her discography.

Ihave to say the alum sounds a bit samey If you just listened to the songs we've got so far, you'd get the gist. I think it'll be the sort of album that will be fab when you listen to it all but you never really go back to many of the songs on their own.

im so torn about this because i don't think the production & songwriting is where it needs to be and i feel like Atlantic have given her too much free rein for it to be an international smash but i love Kelly & am willing it to do well.
you can tell how passionate she is about the project and she's the happiest we've seen her in a long time. the only thing that seems disappointing is the material itself.. as much as it pains me to say it.

Pretty decent increases, "Since U Been Gone" has added 12,000 units in ~7 weeks! The ranking remains the same, I imagine there's quite a gap if "Piece by Piece" hasn't managed to climb any further with its new peak.
It does feel like 'Meaning of Life' is going to flop quite heavily which is a shame. I really enjoyed the 'Piece by Piece' album (apart from "Heartbeat Song") so I was hoping she'd get at least one medium-sized hit from this.

Heartbeat Song was pretty big aswell was it not? I know it didn't have loads of longevity but it's pretty recognisable as being a hit, whereas she doesn't really have anything going for her this era.

Hearing the album trailer and I agree with Liam. I doubt there'll be any "holy shit this is incredible" moments on the album, but it's still gonna be a good album. It's gonna be nice and good, but that's all. But hey, she is super happy and so excited about this album, that's all that matters!

xx A Minute (Intro) - Won't rate as it was pretty forgettable as far as intros go
09 Love So Soft - I've had a MASSIVE u-turn on this over the last two months. It's brilliant, not quite as good as her other singles but it is fab to listen to
06 Heat - I was surprised, much better than the snippet in the album trailer
10 Meaning Of Life - Another great "Kelly" moment, fantastic vocals and of course, the live Nashville session was OUTSTANDING. If anything I feel the live version of this is MUCH better with the studio version a bit limp in comparison
08 Move You - Like Love So Soft, massive u-turn on this despite being a tad cliche like Jonjo said, but it fits nicely

Overall verdict: I really do love the direction shes going in from the last few records. Really loving Love So Soft/Move You/Meaning Of Life/Would You Call That Love/I Don't Think About You/Go High on first listen. I'm glad that 3/4 of the tracks she wrote as in my album top few tracks because I love it when shes involved with the writing, as some of my previous faves are penned by her and this is no exception

Slow Dance is that one song that really grabbed me, I’ve had it on repeat all week lol. I really like I Don’t Think About You and Whole Lotta Woman too. Move You and Slow Dance are my top 2, both 11/10s.
This is one of my favourite Kelly albums, I love the “Love On the Brain”-vibe and the more soulful sound, it really suits her.
