 Hello everyone Welcome to the second round of Best #1's Of The Noughties. Credit to Joseph and the chart forum for the idea.  This thread is all about the year 2001. It was a year that saw pop groups – and their solo members – dominate the charts. Blue, 5ive and Westlife were repping the boybands while Atomic Kitten and Destiny’s Child were doing it for the girls! We also saw forum faves S Club 7 snatch a couple of chart toppers. Discounting the rebounding reigns of Don’t Stop Movin’ and Gotta Get Thru This (climbing back to #1 after being dethroned) there have been 30 number ones throughout the year! Please vote for your favourite 10 songs from the list below. We decided to use Eurovision voting format and with that being said, be smart with your choices and especially with your Top 2 since they will get some extra advantage points from the rest. We haven't yet decided how long will keep these thread open but approximately it will be 2-3 weeks or depends on the interest really. The nose dive in musical quality from 2000 to 2001 is reallyvquite something though! 2000 was so packed with bops that they must have all been saving their best stuff for the new millennium year.

At the time it didn’t feel like such a nosedive, but in terms of chart toppers it definitely was.
I guess there were more long runners at No.1 in 2001 and the biggest hits were generally much bigger than in 2000, meaning a lot of songs that might have got to No.1 in 2000 stalled at No.2 or No.3. Whole Again, It Wasn’t Me, Pure and Simple and Can’t Get You Out Of My Head all felt gigantic at the time. |
