UK SINGLES THAT TOOK THE LONGEST TO REACH No.1

NOTES - THREE FURTHER SINGLES TOOK 16 - OR MORE - WEEKS TO REACH No.1

(But They Needed TWO Chart ’Runs’ To Manage It)

##################################################################

A) REET PETIT - JACKIE WILSON (1957 & 1986)

(Its 1957 Sub-Title was ‘The Finest Girl You Ever Want To Meet’. But, other sources say that it was ‘The Sweetest Girl In Town’. Some sources say it
was just called ‘Reet Petit’ in 1986. Others say that it was called ‘Reet Petit (The Sweetest Girl In Town)’ in 1986. All very confusing. The Sleeve of the
1986 7” Re-Issue simply calls it ‘Reet Petit’).

Entered the UK Singles Chart on W/E 16th November 1957 - Peaking at No.6 (14 Chart Weeks) ***

24-26-18-17-9-8-10-6-7-9-8-11-18-25

(18 of the 19 Weeks inside the Top 40 - 14 Weeks in Chart ‘Run’ 1 & 4 Weeks in Chart ‘Run’ 2)

##################################################################

B) HE AIN’T HEAVY, HE’S MY BROTHER - THE HOLLIES (1969 & 1988)

Entered the UK Singles Chart on W/E 4th October 1969 - Peaking at No.3 (15 Chart Weeks) ***

32-16-5-5-3-4-4-11-18-25-31-35-44-44-49

*** = The Singles Chart was a Top 50 at that time

Re-Entered on W/E 3rd September 1988 - Reached No.1 on W/E 24th September 1988 (11 Chart Weeks)

28-5-2-1-1-2-5-14-26-36-59

19 Weeks to reach No.1. 15 Weeks in Chart ‘Run’ 1 & 4 Weeks in Chart ‘Run’ 2

(16 of the 19 Weeks inside the Top 40 - 12 Weeks in Chart ‘Run’ 1 & 4 Weeks in Chart ‘Run’ 2)

##################################################################

C) TELEPHONE by LADY GAGA FEATURING BEYONCE (2009)

12 - Or More - Weeks to reach No.1 - Other re-issued old Hits that reached No.1 were:,

Leonardo - 'Let's Get Ready' to Rhumble by PJ And Duncan, (Ant & Dec), reached No.9 in 1994, & spent 11 Weeks on the Chart.

In 2013 it re-entered - at No.1 - as a Download. It was its 12th Chart Week.

'Unchained Melody' - Righteous Brothers. Their cover of the 1955 Hit was a No.14 Hit in 1965. It spent 12 Weeks on the Chart.
In 1990 it was re-issued due to featuring in 'Ghost'. It re-entered at No.3. It was No.1 the next Week. It was its 14th Chart Week
- 12 in 1965 + the first 2 of its 1990 Weeks.

'(Is This The Way To) Amarillo?' - Tony Christie. It spent 13 Weeks on the Chart between 1971 & 1972. It Peaked at No.18 in early 1972.
In 2005 it re-entered at No.1. It was its 14th Chart Week. (Although the 2005 No.1 'Features Peter Kay', he only mimes in the Video.
The actual No.1 is exactly the same recording as it was in 1971/1972. Amarillo is a real Town in Texas. It means Yellow in Spanish).

'Imagine' - John Lennon. A No.6 Hit in 1975, & 11 Chart Weeks. When he died in late 1980, it re-entered at No.9, & was No.1 in early 1981.
It was its 3rd Week into its 1980/1981 re-entry & its 14th Chart Week. (It had actually been a USA No.3 Hit in 1971. For some reason it did
not become a UK Single until 1975).

Young At Heart - The Bluebells. A No.8 Hit in 1984 - 12 Chart Weeks. No.1 in its 2nd Chart Week, as a 1993 Re-Issue. It was its 14th Chart Week.
