Welcome to Round 24 of Least Fave Disney Animated Classic and finishing in 10th place is "Pinocchio" which received 10 votes and coming at quite a surprise as this is a wonderful classic and for 21 rounds it never gained more than 1 vote, but as we come nearer and nearer to the end, the competition is getting more and more serious. I'm glad this has managed to finish in the top 10, and I'd even place this in my personal top 10 as well.
This was released in 1940 and was the 2nd Walt Disney Animated feature, coming three years after the massive success of "Snow White". This was based upon an 1883 Italian book "The Adventures Of Pinocchio" and after Walt read the book, he loved it and originally this was intended to be his 3rd feature after "Bambi", but however after difficulties adapting the animals at the time, it was decided that this would be made instead. On it's original release it wasn't a box office success, due to it's high budget at the time, despite critical acclaim and 2 Oscar wins for "Best Original Song - When You Wish Upon A Star" and Best Original Score. But of course like most of the early classics it has become a success throughout the years, due to re-releases, earning $84.2 Million and even gaining a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. As for the others, this was the first time that every Disney movie has gained a vote. "Sleeping Beauty" gained the 2nd highest with 7 votes, then "The Jungle Book" gained 4 votes, "Alice In Wonderland" gains 3 votes, "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast" both got 2 votes, then finally "Snow White", "101 Dalmatians", "Aladdin" and "The Lion King" each got 1 vote each. 10th Pinocchio = 10 Votes Well what can I say that hasn't already been said about this wonderful and amazing classic. It's one of the first Disney movies that I've ever seen and loved it as a kid and loves it now to this day as an adult. The story itself is probably the darkest in the Disney collection. The fact that the studio took a wooden doll and gave it so much energy and personality speaks volumes to just how much dedication they gave to this project, serving the narrative amazingly. The rest of the characters are extremely memorable and even though most of them get very little time on screen, the animators did an impeccable job of breathing life into them. The animation is also one of their best with so much attention to detail and given the even darker material that it's based upon, well honestly I'd say that this is actually better than the book itself and turned it into something so magical and just brilliant. There have been many versions of Pinocchio through the years, but this one stands as the best and most remembered of the bunch. Right then just 9 left now, same rules apply just vote for your least fave by the next round which will be on 21st January 2016.
