Chart Commentary

A big thank you to all those 9 of you who commented on last week's personal chart, including BridgeCow, JosephStyles, Sven10, Dobbo, Mrs. Potts, toffonews, Tombo, HarryEzra and Faller.

Girls, girls and more girls. That's what this weeks new entries mostly seem to be about, aside from The Vamps making a delayed entry. The music industry has been flooded with female singers in 2017, all trying to raise their game and meet new dizzy heights of chart success.

A solitary week at the top for Calvin Harris and co. means that there is a new #1. This weeks #1 is also the highest new entry and it comes from American singer-songwriter KeS ha. Praying is a very emotive ballad delivered with some stunning notes by Kesha. From her upcoming self-released album Rainbow, it promises to offer contemporary pop music to an ever-changing era of sound.

Following closely behind her is Dua Lipa whose latest single New Rules has produced a very good accompanying music video. Miley Cyrus also enters in the Top 10 this week with Inspired, another beautifully written pop ballad. Jax Jones & NEIKED both climb to new peaks in the Top 10 this week with their respective Summer dance anthems.

Selena Gomez is both a new entry and this weeks highest climber also with her two singles Bad Liar and Fetish. DJ Khaled's high profile collaboration with Rihanna is a new entry at #16 this week and looks set to establish DJ Khaled as one of the premier names in the music business right now.

Not many artists make a re-entry into the Top 40 Countdown, and even fewer manage to re-enter with the same single on more than one occasion. In fact, Sigrid is the first to do it! Plot Twist has exited the chart on two occasions, but it returns again this week following the release of the official music video this week.

Within the last quarter of the chart, we see British boy band The Vamps with their single Middle Of The Night which is a collaborative effort with DJ Martin Jensen. This too is a re-entry.

Steps, TLC and John Gibbons are among the chart casualties this week to exit.
