Colm's Now album has some fab dance choons: Rozalla, Utah Saints, Baby D, KLF, U96, Prodigy* (though I'd go obvious with Firestarter), RAF, Source especially....
(* which gives me an opportunity for another anecdote repeat - a few years back I was clubbing at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern Duckies on Sat nights and they put on Smack My Bitch Up just as an elderly gentleman (it's a very mixed crowd of ages, but not the very young) with a walking cane in one hand and a pint in the other managed to squeeze past me and gyrating others to find the only empty spot by the steps he could stand and enjoy. "Legend" I thought, not letting disability and age stop him going out! ) |

We actually had a debate on the 00s dance forum before declaring With Every Heartbeat as dance because it obviously is very synthpop too. It being thread contributor Lenny/Midge's favourite song ever played a bit of a role in us allowing it to be dance #1 on the thread!

It definitely was classed a dance single at the time, albeit a very synth pop styled one and obviously Robyn wouldn't really be dance nowadays - I think Kleerup had generally focused solely on dance music though.

I do love “Smack My Bitch Up”, particularly the video although I never saw it at the time for obvious reasons. I think YouTube still has it banned anyway, but personally I think it is a brilliant video because of the way that it really gets you thinking about gender stereotypes, and your own unconscious biases. Keith Flint's death really cut me up, their music really did soundtrack much of my life growing up. I remember when someone brought in “Breathe” to play in schoool on non-uniform day and being completely blown away. I hope I'm like that guy when I get older, with my enthusiasm for big breakbeats undimmed. |

Oooooo you have As The Rush Comes! I want that but it's always so expensive and I haven't quite convinced myself I should spend that much yet.

Only 1 of that whole list was purchased off the internet - True Faith. Everything else I found in second hand music shops (I got Killer in an Oxfam), at record fairs or as gifts from a mate.
I love the buzz of finding something on my 'to buy' list in a shop. This post has been edited by Colm: 2nd March 2021, 02:52 PM |

That's an amazing collection Colm, I'm incredibly jealous! I agree that half the fun of collecting these (now obscure) records is the challenge of the hunt to try and find them. “As the Rush Comes” was an early Doctor Blind #1 from Jan 2004 - knocked off by Franz Ferdinand (“Take Me Out”).. if nothing else I was eclectic!
This morning I had 6Music on in the office at work and they played “In Yer Face”, “Playing With Knives” and “Dominator” back-to-back. It was very distracting!! |

The break down in As the Rush Comes (Gabriel & Dresden Sweeping Strings Remix) is one of my favourites in all of the trance genre. I was surprised to find out they were American. I have Now Trance in the pipeline too. I can't decide if I want to do radio versions or club mixes. This post has been edited by Colm: 2nd March 2021, 05:12 PM |

I love the buzz of finding something on my 'to buy' list in a shop. I've got a local record shop but it very rarely has anything in it that I'd want to buy - certainly not much in terms of electronic music. It's the type of shop where they still get obsessed with talking about the latest Paul McCartney release or the fact they've found a NM copy of a Genesis album. I've never been to a record fair - I should google for local ones when we're allowed to actually be in the same room as other people again! Part of my problem is that I'm exceptionally picky about what I buy, online I only ever buy mint or near mint because I hate crackles on records and I don't like used looking sleeves - a fact that will probably come as a surprise to precisely nobody. |

I'm not that picky. My copy of Hey Jupiter/Professional Widow is in tatters. I prob only spent €1 on it.
I would say half my stuff comes from the record fair that we have here, a few times a year. It is a UK one so it's most likely one that travels around the UK too before coming to Dublin. I've bled them dry of all the 80s stuff that I want. They didn't seem to be replenishing very much theas few times I went. There's a really good shop in Belfast too. That's where I got double pack of the two House Arrest 12"s. I've managed to find all the Now's on vinyl from 10 to 19. |

I love going into record stores, always have. As a kid I'd spend an hour in the local independent one every Monday scouring the racks to see what I wanted to spend my money on.
I have to limit myself these days as I end up buying things that I don't even want that much just because they are there. In some ways online buying makes me more focussed - although I totally get what you mean about stumbling across something you've wanted for ages. I find the knack online is to find shops that don't specialise in the type of music you're looking for. I picked up Tori's Professional Widow for £10 in mint condition - yep it's quite a lot but I've seen it selling for waaayyyy more than that so it's almost an investment, albeit one I will never sell |

Joins the love club for Motorcycle-As the Rush Comes!!!!! one of the best dance songs ever! Reflect ft Delline Bass - Need To Feel Loved is another good dance song with a similar sort of vibe to it from the mid 00s. This post has been edited by TheSnake: 2nd March 2021, 11:36 PM |

I'm way too late to provide any inclusions that won't already be here but just wanted to say that I loved reading through this topic
I built on my very small dance singles collection a bit just before lockdown hit! My biggest local independent record store is great for dance, the owner was really helpful and even ordered in Basement Jaxx - 'The Singles' for me after he could see me buying a couple of their singles in there *.* must resist the urge to buy job lots of dance singles now I think I'll just stick to buying a couple whenever I visit the independent stores as I go down enough vinyl rabbit holes online as it is. For now I just have: Artful Dodger - Movin' Too Fast (feat. Romina Johnson) Basement Jaxx - Jump n' Shout Basement Jaxx - Oh My Gosh Chocolate Puma - I Wanna Be U Fatboy Slim - Right Here, Right Now (yellow vinyl + a CamelPhat remix one too) Jean Jacques Smoothie - 2 People Meck - Thunder In My Heart Again (feat. Leo Sayer) Paul Hardcastle - 19 The Prodigy - Out of Space Room 5 - Make Luv (feat. Oliver Cheatham) Quite 2000s heavy right now. Definitely want to build on 90s in the future. Also sharing the 'As The Rush Comes' love... |

The Chocolate Puma one is a great choice Jade, I knew it when I was a child in the form of Follow The Leader by Nigel and Marvin, a childrens party fave back then.

Annoyingly there are quite a few comparatively recent inclusions I’d like but simply can’t get. Kiesza’s Hideaway for example doesn’t ever appear to have had a 12” release.
