Airing against The Missing writer's new BBC series 'Rellik' is a new drama by the writers of The Missing 'Liar'.

QUOTE
Created and written by BAFTA- and Golden Globe-nominated producers and screenwriters Harry and Jack Williams, Liar tells the story of a night that changes the lives of Laura Newell (Joanne Froggatt) and Andrew Ellis (Ioan Gruffudd) forever.

Laura is a smart and dedicated teacher, not long out of a relationship and unsure about getting back on the dating scene. Andrew is a renowned surgeon whose son is a pupil at Laura’s school. An initial attraction leads to a date, but neither fully realises the far-reaching consequences that their meeting will have on each other or their families. Truth and consequences go hand in hand in a tense and gripping thriller that examines both sides of a relationship and both sides of the truth. Are there really two sides to every story?

Liar explores the devastating cost of deceit on both the couple and their friends and family, as secrets and lies are laid bare…

What that press release doesn't say is that it is about an alleged rape and the show will look at both sides of the story to help determine whether the rape occured or not...

It is certainly topical and will no doubt prove controversial but it is set to provide a '21st century take on modern-day gender politics' as well as being a 'compellng emotional thriller'.

'Every truth has two sides; it is as well to look at both, before we commit to either.'

Good first episode. Lots of people tweeting that they think a third person was involved. Maybe he left and the ex boyfriend came back and raped her.

?! - This confused me, I had to check IMDB and they did indeed write both 9pm drama premieres tonight! How unusual that they chose to be scheduled against each other.

The first episode was good. I didn't like the introductory scenes and none of the characters seem immediately likeable. I like the premise though, I'm sure everyone's first impression of who the 'liar' is will be different, it's definitely an interesting concept to lead with.

Anyone watching this? Am really enjoying it with the twists and turns.

I tried to watch this on catch up the other day, first episode was great, but the second episode turned off after 11minutes laugh.gif unsure.gif this happened to anyone else?

No, it's excellent.

I'm glad it's ending next week (?) so I'll see it though, but it's gone completely barmy.

Yeah things definitely got ridiculously intense last night but I have found it gripping as a whole

Yeah the fourth episode was great although Andrew makes me feel physically sick. The kidnap felt a bit ridiculous but hopefully the finale will be worth it.

She's stronger than she looks - dragging him from the car, to that building. I weigh twice what she does, and I'd struggle.

omg second series confirmed *.*

Fantastic finale. Glad it's all been uncovered but where it goes from here will be interesting. Heard something the other day about a possibility of a prequel to the series happening.

Question there is a good looking young chap who I think is the son of the leading man from that trailer, Anyone know his name for educational purposes?

(sorry for the slight off topic question)

Interesting use of time shift for the final episode but after the events of the previous two episodes, it was needed and it worked well. I'm glad that Laura has closure finally and they got the evidence lawfully but boo at killing Andrew off! I would guess that Mia killed him based on the phone call when Laura was in the shed?

Interested to see where they go with a second series, prequel or sequel!

Katherine Kelly has joined the cast for Series 2!

It picks up a few weeks directly after Andrew’s death

I think I really need to watch the first series of this again. I watched it at the time it aired but it’s been so long I’ve sort of forgotten almost every other character except from Andrew and the main character who Joanne Froggatt plays.

Same here. Can't remember much about it. The second series is a whodunit apparently. I vaguely remember the ending.

I just finished watching this and absolutely loved it, can't wait for the second series on Monday now!

Fully caught up at this now! S1 was great.

I was confused looking at the trailer for 2 as I didn’t recognise anyone except Laura but it makes sense now the story is very different.

Posted by: Klaus Mar 9 2020, 09:15 PM

I get not rushing another series out but I can hardly remember who all the characters are outside of the two leads! Which means that I don’t really care about a whodunnit when the only person I know definitely didn’t do it is the only other character I’m fully familiar with!

I’m hoping we’ll get more chance to explore the other characters again, I guess the sister’s story is coming back to my mind.

Was her new partner part of the last series?

Spoiler for series 2 ending

So after all that It was her all along ffs!

They really should’ve left this as a one series wonder or filmed and showed series 2 about two year ago.

By the time they showed season 2 aside from Laura and Andrew it has hard to remember who everyone was. I only see season 1 a few weeks before 2 aired and even I was thinking who the f*** is that.
