Liverpool taken to the limit by Carlisle and winning on a penalty shoot-out. They can count themselves lucky to still be in the competition and this wont really help Brendan Rodgers employment prospects. Lucky?? We absolutely trounced Carlisle. We couldn't score a second goal to save our lives, and well our defending for their goal.. might as well have had no-one there! Brendan's a dead man walking no doubt about that. |

Yeah Liverpool are lucky, they should have easily beaten Carlisle last night with all the chances that they had but they couldn't get the job done in 120 mins. It was due to the inept penalty taking by the Carlisle players that Liverpool have survived in this cup. |

Carlisle played well no doubt about that, and they defended brilliantly. They did what all teams should do to us - conjest the middle and send us out wide, cos we have no width in the team. |

I was honestly expecting a tougher game than that, Premier League against League 2. I was surprised when I looked at one point to see it was only 1-0. Was expecting a score similar to Southampton's margin. Delighted Carlisle did so well of course.

Mourinho has completely lost the team. The players look shattered and unmotivated. Think if he loses at the weekend against Liverpool he will get the sack (not that that's likely to happen!).

Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young all missing penalties as Man United crash out to Middlesbrough. Well done to Middlesbrough. Would have thought that Van Gaal would take this seriously although at least it wasn't that 4-0 defeat to MK Dons last season that was embarrassing to watch.

They did take it seriously - the team they put out was very strong! This Man Utd side are well disciplined and hard to beat, but utterly mind numbing boring. It's the way they're coached. But unlike Chelsea fans who don't mind it so much, Man Utd fans are used to their teams being creative and attacking, so I can massively understand their frustration. Problem is, I'm not sure Giggs is that man. |

I'm watching the highlights here now, I assume Southampton had to chase the game?

An all merseyside final would be good for the competition!

Nobody seems to have been discussing last nights game - Stoke seemed to play so well so hard luck to them. Glad to see Liverpool in the final - maybe win our first trophy in 4 seasons -

Stoke were unlucky indeed, they deserved to go through to the final. Although with a German manager it looked inevitable that Liverpool would progress to the final on penalties.
Really hoping for an all-Merseyside final. |
