The British Soap Awards returns next month, with the long-lists for Best Actor and Actress revealed and now, along with Best Soap, available to vote in on the official site. I thought it would be a good idea to get the thread started now to post predictions for who will be nominated/win in each category, as well as who you've voted for Best Actor/Actress/Soap. There has been a couple of tweaks to the categories: there is now a male and female version of Best Dramatic Performance and the Outstanding Achievement Off-Screen has been titled the Tony Warren Award, in respect for the creator of Corrie who died in March. Best British Soap Eastenders Coronation Street Emmerdale Hollyoaks Doctors Best Actor James Bye // Martin Fowler // EastEnders Davood Ghadami // Kush Kazemi // EastEnders Danny Dyer // Mick Carter // EastEnders Alan Halsall // Tyrone Dobbs // Coronation Street Ben Price // Nick Tilsley // Coronation Street Jack P Shepherd // David Platt // Coronation Street John Middleton // Ashley Thomas // Emmerdale Dominic Brunt // Paddy Kirk // Emmerdale Danny Miller // Aaron Livesy // Emmerdale Charlie Clapham // Freddie Roscoe // Hollyoaks Ashley Taylor Dawson // Darren Osborne // Hollyoaks Kieron Richardson // Ste Hay // Hollyoaks Owen Brenman // Dr Heston Carter // Doctors Ian Midlane // Dr Al Haskey // Doctors Matthew Chambers // Dr Daniel Granger // Doctors Best Actress Diane Parish // Denise Fox // EastEnders Lacey Turner // Stacey Branning // EastEnders Rakhee Thakrar // Shabnam Masood // EastEnders Alison King // Carla Connor // Coronation Street Paula Lane // Kylie Platt // Coronation Street Kate Ford // Tracy Barlow // Coronation Street Charlotte Bellamy // Laurel Thomas // Emmerdale Zoe Henry // Rhona Goskirk // Emmerdale Lucy Pargeter // Chas Dingle // Emmerdale Nadine Mulkerrin // Cleo McQueen // Hollyoaks Nikki Sanderson // Maxine Blake // Hollyoaks Jennifer Metcalfe // Mercedes McQueen // Hollyoaks Jan Pearson // Karen Hollins // Doctors Laura Rollins // Ayesha Lee // Doctors Lorna Laidlaw // Mrs Tembe // Doctors Best Newcomer Best Comedy Performance Best On-Screen Partnership Best Male Dramatic Performance Best Female Dramatic Performance Best Young Performance Villain of the Year Spectacular Scene of the Year Best Storyline Best Single Episode Outstanding Achievement Award The Tony Warren Award (Outstanding Achievement Award Off-Screen) |

I voted for John Middleton (Ashley in Emmerdale), Rakhee Thakrar (Shabnam in Eastenders) and Emmerdale. There wasn't really any competition for me.
For Eastenders, I can totally see Shabnam giving birth to a still-born being up for Best Episode, Stacey's psychosis up for Best Storyline and Mick and Dean's underwater fight up for Best Spectacular Scene. For Emmerdale, I think maybe the flashback episode for Best Episode, either Aaron's child abuse storyline or Ashley's dementia for Best Storyline and the August helicopter stunt for Best Spectacular Scene. They're the only two soaps I care about right now so I hope they both, but Emmerdale in particular, slay. |

Emmerdale genuinely deserve to pick up a good few awards this year, if it doesn't happen this year it never will. EastEnders is my own favourite soap but answering honestly Emmerdale is more worthy of awards this year. John Middleton in particular is 100% worthy of best actor this year, some of his performances have been so real that it would bring a tear to your eye as you can feel the pain and worry he is experiencing in the role of Ashley.

I'd love to know which soap was a fraction away from taking Best Soap from Eastenders last year. The optimist in me thinks Emmerdale but I was quite fearful it was Hollyoaks given they won the year before. That's the only thing that made me consider voting Eastenders over Emmerdale this year but, given the amount of comments I've seen where people have said they've voted Emmerdale and given the soap has won Best Soap in other recent award ceremonies, made me think to just go with it.

I too have given my vote to Emmerdale this year. They honestly deserve having at least 1 Best Soap award from the awards ceremony to their name considering Hollyoaks have one. If Emmerdale do actually manage it this year i think they would scream the house down with joy as you can tell the whole cast want it so badly.

Emmerdale really deserves Best Soap, I keep up to date with Hollyoaks and Eastenders more, out of habit, but Emmerdale is so consistent whereas the other two have great moments/storylines (like Hollyoaks is much better and quite gripping right now as the GHK storyline isn't far from being resolved), but soon go slow once they are resolved. Emmerdale seems to have the right pace, some brilliant actors/storylines and it rarely gets too boring. Hollyoaks is my personal favourite just because I like that its ridiculous and OTT, I'd rather see lots of death, affairs and destruction than watching people sat in the pub like in Corrie but Emmerdale deserves it more for being consistent and, I feel, underrated. Speaking of Corrie, that certainly doesn't deserve a single award!

My votes
Best Actor - Danny Miller (Emmerdale) Best Actress - Rakhee Thakrar (EastEnders) Best Soap - EastEnders Best Soap was close between EE and Emmerdale but the countless number of affairs/break-ups in Emmerdale has pissed me off so I went with EastEnders. Yes at both Lacey and Rakhee getting nominations for Best Actress, Bonnie getting a nomination for Best Newcomer, both those particular Eastenders nominations in the Best Storyline and Episode categories and YES at Steve McFadden finally getting some recognition by being up for Best Dramatic Male Performance!

Can Danny Dyer winning Best Actor not happen please, he is so beige beyond words. He is so overrated and overhyped by Eastenders.

Corrie literally deserve none of those.
I'll be SO angry if Rakhee doesn't win something for that stillbirth episode. |

John Middleton has failed to make the short. This has shocked me considering some of the wonderful scenes he has delivered in the last many months.

I'm a bit irked by that actually - I thought John Middleton has been a stand-out in an already excellent Emmerdale. It looks like there's more good stuff to come from him too. |

I had just assumed he would easily make the short list Kath. I can only assume he will make the list next year as the storyline will have come to its full conclusion and he will delivered more spectacular scenes.
