So, we've not got long left until all 40 positions are filled in our Ultimate Top 40 final, the bottom half of the chart are all safe and certain to be there for the final, but what about numbers 11 - 20?...

Below are the winners vs the runner ups of the numbers 11 to 20 rates:

11. Pet Shop Boys - Opportunities (Let's Make Lots Of Money) vs Beastie Boys - (You Gotta Fight) For Your Right (To Party)
12. Cyndi Lauper - True Colors vs Kim Wilde - Cambodia
13. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart vs Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus
14. Dusty Springfield - In Private vs Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime
15. Motorhead - Ace Of Spades vs Cure - In Between Days

So far, it looks like HALF of these will be lost - and good ones too, but in a way (unless there's no more voters) at least it gives Kate Bush, New Order and The Cure a chance to get a look in, as they've been strangely absent so far kink.gif

Just over 24 hours left to have your final say in who secures their place in the final. Vote wisely and all that thinking.gif

Been a while since I chimed in on any of these, so, here goes...

11. Beastie Boys - (You Gotta Fight) For the Right (To Party)
12. Cyndi Lauper - True Colors
13. Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus
14. Talking Heads - Once in a Lifetime
15. Motorhead - Ace of Spades
16. Eurythmics - You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart
17. Tom Jones - It's Not Unusual
18. Kate Bush - Hound of Love
19. Pet Shop Boys - Love Comes Quickly
20. New Order - Touched By the Hand of God

That should raise a few brows, to be sure...or not.... rolleyes.gif

can I vote twice? There's a bit of unacceptable PSB-ism going on in favour of car badge thieves. I mean, next it'll be votes for other fondly-loved childhood faves (this is only allowed when I do it!) tongue.gif

Shall I change my sole PSB vote, then? Can easily be done....unless I'm mis-interpreting your post... unsure.gif

Ooh dont ever change your opinion, I was just having a quip cos I'm a huge PSB fan! laugh.gif Everyone's opinion is just as valid as mine, and I like Fight For Your Right To Party - to be honest I like all of the candidates cool.gif

I have no idea what standom is but it sounds like Eminem obsessionism... and no I'm not obsessive about anyone or anything, just enthusiastic about a zillion different things - but PSB's are among the top tier of music acts I rate. Let's put it this way, I'm not a completist about any music star, but the nearest I come to a complete collection are Abba and Pet Shop Boys, with The Beatles nearly there (Ive a few early albums still to buy) laugh.gif

Just to be absolutely clear - my comments on AH's fab 80's charting is to generate a bit of chit chat and discussion and enthusiasm and amusement - hoping others will join in, and if it encourages more folk to vote even more for The Fraggles or The Birdie Song rather than Pet Shop Boys that's still a success to me yahoo.gif

Posted by: richie 9th July 2015, 07:30 AM

Nothing wrong with the Birdie Song!!

I was torn between PSB and the Beasties. I just don't think either Opportunities or Love Comes Quickly are great records - at least Fight For Your Right was definitive of the times. Would have loved It's a Sin, West End Girls or Always on my Mind to be the overall number one but they were up against a lot of opposition.

The Results

Loving the debate laugh.gif Has it resulted in PSB being saved? Let's find out:

11. Pet Shop Boys - Opportunities (Let's Make Lots Of Money) (4) vs Beastie Boys - (You Gotta Fight) For Your Right (To Party) (6)

Bye bye Opportunites sob.gif

12. Cyndi Lauper - True Colors (5) vs Kim Wilde - Cambodia (5)

A tie means the original victor stays. Poor Kim sob.gif

13. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart (7) vs Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus (3)

No surprises here

14. Dusty Springfield - In Private (6) vs Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime (4)

At least one PSB related track is safe

15. Motorhead - Ace Of Spades (7) vs Cure - In Between Days (3)

Well, it's a classic, and with 7 votes to 3, Lemmy and co are safe

16. Eurythmics - You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart (7) vs Lightning Seeds - Pure (3)

Annie & Dave keep their place as well

17. Pat Benatar - Love Is A Battlefield (5) vs Tom Jones - It's Not Unusual (5)

Another tie results in Pat Benatar staying

18. Sheila & B Devotion - Spacer (3) vs Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love (7)

sob.gif sob.gif I do love Hounds Of Love, but I love Spacer more. Oh well, it's about time Kate made an appearance in the final Top 40! laugh.gif

19. Pet Shop Boys - Love Comes Quickly (5) vs Julian Cope - World Shut Your Mouth (5)

Hooray!

20. Kate Bush - Cloudbusting (5) vs New Order - Touched By The Hand Of God (5)

Another tie means a FIFTH Bush track in the Top 40

I do actually think the voting is fairer as those like me who do as many slots as are permitted have a slight bias over those who do less, so the either/or is more democratic. I must take a listen to this Katey Boosh she seems quite popular, I wonder if she'll be running up that hill next.... laugh.gif
