latest news item, outing gays in saudi as part of another mass dump of info, which is like putting a gun to their head. As if supporting Trump wasn't reason enough to rate old Jules as a (probable) rapist irresponsible twat, he shows what a heartless anarchist he is at heart.

So, is he right to believe no-one has the right to freedom or privacy, and that avoiding the law is something everyone should aspire to....?

I found the cognitive dissonance among some people on the left regarding Julian Assange & Wikileaks when the rape allegations first emerged rather telling to say the least. Had it been some else who fled the country and holed themselves up in an Embassy to avoid facing rape charges, they would have cried foul the moment the allegations first arose, but because he is "Saint" Julian, who "bravely" released secret documents about America and other far-left boogymen, they've fallen over themselves to try to either shift the blame (claiming the allegations were a ruse to get him extradited to the States), or even worse, try to excuse his actions explain how what he did wasn't rape or assault (most prominently George Galloway, with his foul comments being the moment that my last modicum of respect I had for him finally dissolved). I don't know whether he's guilty or not, I just want him to be turned over to the police so he can finally stand trial for the allegations (provided there is the evidence to proceed, if I remember correctly he hasn't been formally charged at this point).

He's been given a pass for so long because he was releasing information that the "right people" were glad to see released (BNP membership lists, cables that attacked US foreign policy), and it's not until now that the information that has endangered people like foreign aid workers, rape victims and gays that those people are finally waking up to the fact that Wikileaks isn't the benevolent organisation the "right people" wanted it to be. If only the scales had fallen from their eyes sooner.

As for the US election, I don't think Assange is supporting Trump per se, rather he is opposing Hilary Clinton, presumably because of her threats to extradite him to the US on treason charges at the height of the cable leaks.

Now the important question - when's Benedict Cumberbatch going to be questioned by journalists in to his part in sanctifying this secular saint?

I can only assume this is part of an elaborate ploy by Assange to avoid a trial in Sweden. Clearly, he wants to argue that he cannot possibly get a fair trial as everybody hates him.

Elements of the far left have always had a shoddy record on rape and sexual assault if the implosion of the SWP a few years ago is anything to go by. The moral acrobatics some of them went through to defend Assange was dodgy at the time, it's even dodgier now.

Julian Assange was finally arrested today.

Good.

Apparently the last straw was him https://metro.co.uk/2019/04/11/julian-assange-smeared-poo-embassy-walls-says-ecuadorian-minister-9169870/on the walls in the Ecuadorian Embassy.

Are you kidding - we *need* whistleblowers like him to expose what our gov'ts are really up to!

I suspect if he is convicted tons more deeply embarrassing material will be released...

He's not a whistleblower, he's a propagandist. If he were a whistleblower he would be releasing data from Russia, from despotic states, from Trump, from farage (let's not forget people in and of the organisations they have run have been found guilty of crimes) and they would have more of a moral conscience on the consequences of their actions.

Instead he deliberately targets Hillary Clinton & Obama, who have been found guilty of nothing. Mainly because he's wanted by the US authorities of that time, so it's a deliberate targeted effort to get back at them personally. You can't make all data free. How would you like it if all of your personal data was suddenly put online? The whole world having access to your entire life because Assange thought it was in the public interest? Your home address? Your credit history? What about spies working in the interest of our own country? What about family safety of people involved in working for the State?

Cos Assange doesn't give a shit about anyone. Only his own shit.

Chelsea Manning is a whistleblower. Assange is a skeezy self serving alleged rapist masquerading as a white knight saviour of democracy. Wikileaks May have started out with Nobel intentions but it has become corrupted over time and only serves to further the world view of Assange and his delusional band of followers
