Series 11 already! Bake Off has started filming now, with Paul, Prue and Noel returning with new co-host Matt Lucas. Looking forward to it's return! Though I expect it'll be on a little later this year, and hopefully Extra Slice will be able to air also.

Posted by: ElectroBoy 9th August 2020, 02:20 PM

Ah Down Hall - been there a few times for work away days biggrin.gif

Good to know we will be getting the Bake Off this year

Posted by: Suedehead2 9th August 2020, 02:20 PM

Note the way they make an extra ad break seem like a good thing.

Well I guess the actual content must be a bit longer also? It won't be a 15-minute adbreak tongue.gif

The Hollywood Handshake *will* appear as "the judges, hosts and the contestants have all been deemed clear because of the bio-secure bubble and regular testing."

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 12th August 2020, 09:59 AM

Been confirmed to air sometime next month, unsurprisingly

Posted by: LJ JORD 7 12th August 2020, 10:35 AM

When Bake off airs has like the whole series including the final / winner been filmed before we see the first episode?

Yep, it's been like that every series though

An Extra Slice has been confirmed to return! As will The Great Festive Bake Off

Posted by: Suedehead2 4th September 2020, 05:12 PM

If Extra Slice has to manage without Tom Allen mixing with the audience, that won't be much of a loss.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 10th September 2020, 06:55 AM

It returns on 22nd September!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 15th September 2020, 07:00 AM

And here's the baker lineup!

Posted by: Brett-Butler 15th September 2020, 07:47 AM

One of them is called Lottie. I'm presuming it's not our Lottie.

If it all goes up at once, I assume they will wait until the final has been shown here which should be around late November / early December.

Posted by: Liаm 15th September 2020, 08:09 PM

They've announced it'll be on Netflix in the US every Friday so only 3 days behind us!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 22nd September 2020, 02:26 PM

Back tonight! Can't wait biggrin.gif

Ah not surprised by that!

You full well know there is no other cake synonymous with you! I predict it'll be the technical!

So much Battenberg. I had tears of joy during the whole segment. The chocolate orange one was particularly appealing.

Legit

Really liked that episode, great start to the series! Really happy for Peter too - he was great throughout all three challenges wub.gif Other favourites include Dave (what a shame for him with the technical, oops) and Lottie.

Linda and Rowan are iconic *_*

Agreed. I thought she was certain to go (whatever her name is laugh.gif )

Posted by: Klumzee 22nd September 2020, 09:04 PM

Hoping the characters get a bit more chance to shine through as I wasn't totally onboard with any of them! Lottie was my fave of the lot and Rowan and Sura seem like they'll be good to watch but there's so many that didn't leave any impression on me! I was really surprised Linda stayed as she was fairly awful in the first two challenges but somehow survived, I like her but she thought she was a gonner!

Posted by: HarryEzra 22nd September 2020, 09:32 PM

Pete and Suna are my faves atm!

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ 22nd September 2020, 09:53 PM

Linda's pineapple upside down cakes were iconic wub.gif I was howling laughing throughout the whole episode tbf!

Really liking Suna and Peter and Lottie seems cool as well! Was really surprised at who went this time. Cannot WAIT to see what Linda does/doesn't do next week !!

Posted by: Andrew. 23rd September 2020, 12:44 AM

Rowan and Linda are an iconic duo lmao but one of them deffo should’ve gone, I felt Loriea had more to give. Peter deserved that win but he annoys me, I have literally no idea why but there’s always one I have an irrational dislike for it’s not personal x

My faves are Sura (the WELP I let out when she knocked over the technicals 💀), Lottie, Hermine and the Irish guy as well. Dave though, hello. 😍

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 23rd September 2020, 09:04 AM

7m in the overnights, up 1.3m from last year!

Posted by: Neil 23rd September 2020, 10:33 AM

Oh my heart ACHED for Sura after she knocked Dave's cakes over. Especially when she ended up winning that challenge, you could tell it only compounded her guilt, poor thing. Obviously felt bad for Dave too.

I think Sura is my favourite so far but personality wise it would have to be Laura by far.

Rowan is giving me skinny Christopher Biggins vibes for sure.

I was expecting Linda to go, felt bad for Loriea as she didn't do the worst bake in any of the challenges but she was just consistently below average I guess.

That's good! I reckon the delay on it returning as well as the timing with the government update helped out here! Plenty of people would've made the effort to sit in front of the TV for the message and then stayed for Bake Off.

laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm 23rd September 2020, 11:49 AM

Loriea sad.gif I really wanted her to stay, she was one of my faves and she definitely wasn't the worst there, but I guess as she was consistently low in each bake she didn't have a standout thing to save her.

I love Sura, Laura and Irish Mark so far, that is a MAN *.* I felt so bad for Sura too with Dave's technical, but it's not like she ruined a perfect bake he would've been low anyway tbf.

Posted by: jlj 23rd September 2020, 02:38 PM

Sura oh my god! That incident was so stressful to watch. Bless her though she felt so bad sad.gif

Disappointing first exit this year but not a huge shock. A very hard week one though!

I am so here for Rowan & Lotti in particular, Sura was lovely too, felt so bad for her during her technical and then she chose David Attenborough as her hero which can only be wonderful *. Actually kinda took to Loreia, she seemed pretty unique and ambitious, although tbf she did mess up to some extent in all the challenges.

I was unsure about Matt before this started, but he was wonderful, that opening skit was amazing wub.gif Was a really funny episode, though maybe I'm just glad to have a show this warm hearted back in these times.

How to get the public on your side - say David Attenborough is your hero laugh.gif

Loreia seemed wonderfully quirky so it was a shame to see her go so soon. Her recipes made me think of Liz Smith's Mrs Cropley from the early series of Vicar of Dibley.

Posted by: Tafty 24th September 2020, 04:51 PM

Loreia </3

Such a bizarre feeling towards Sura for me. She seemed unnecessarily cold and rude for the first half, but then I was slightly warming to her by the end of the episode? We'll see whether that was just coz of the incident or not. So I'm intrigued to see her in the next couple of episodes.

My current faves are: Hermine, Mark & Peter. I don't have a strong dislike for anybody yet, but Sura would be last for me atm. Oops.

Overall that was a good first episode. Just nice, chill and light hearted entertainment! What more could we ask for in these trying times? wub.gif

Agreed on the adverts - loaded this eve

Hope Rowan doesn’t go...

Posted by: Suedehead2 29th September 2020, 08:40 PM

I always record it so I can skip the adverts. If I time it right (I was close today) then I can finish watching it at roughly the time it actually finishes. Dave was the obvious star baker tonight. I thought Rowan would go but he just about clung on.

Posted by: ɥɔʇᴉq 29th September 2020, 09:14 PM

I just watched the first episode and Sura is giving me major Nadiya vibes with her facial expressions and joking around with the hosts. The gay guy (who remembers the names after first week amiright) was also pretty funny so those two are ones that stood out the most so far to me. The one who did Lupita has potential to be fun to watch as well.

Posted by: jlj 30th September 2020, 10:12 PM

Didn’t agree at all with the decision of who was eliminated this week.

Rowan definitely was the weakest across all three bakes this week as nice as he is. Poor Mak didn’t he place third in the technical too i really thought that would’ve saved him.

Bread week next week is quite exciting. That’s usually when you really start to see who may be a contender isn’t it as it’s usually quite a tricky week although for weeks one and two the challenges this year have actually been quite hard.

Posted by: Liаm 1st October 2020, 06:25 AM

Yeah that was some bullshit, Rowan was awful last week too and hasn't listened at all to any critiques he's been given about being too ambitious. I know each week is a clean slate here which I do agree with, but when it's a recurring pattern across every bake he's done it's even more of a shame to lose Mak over him who I think had way more potential.

You have to bear in mind they way the show has been recorded this year. In past years, the contestants will have had a week at home to revise their plans for the following week. This year, the time between recording shows one and two will have been, at most, one day and that will not have been spent at home. It will have been much harder for this year's contestants to respond to feedback from the judges.

That's true; although they were trying to keep up the weekly façade as they spoke about 'last week' and 'week 2' etc.

True, even though I know it's different and they're in that bubble where it's a bit accelerated, my brain is still used to how things usually are and I keep thinking of the show that way laugh.gif

I think it was filmed over about four weeks. They've mentioned being together for six weeks and the first two weeks of that was a quarantine period before they were allowed to begin filming.

Tom Allen is an absolute joy to watch on An Extra Slice!

Posted by: ✖ leww ✖ 6th October 2020, 08:40 PM

The right decision this week unfortunately, it's a shame because it's the nicest any of his baking creations have looked to be honest! I don't think anyone massively shone this week apart from Marc E - his showstopper looked lovely and you can tell he put a lot into it. I was SCREAMING at Linda's though, it was amazing! Loved the cow wub.gif

Rowan's such a sweetie but I think he had to go this week.

Posted by: dandy* 6th October 2020, 09:19 PM

Definitely the correct result this week, he's not really had a great bake all series!!!

Posted by: jlj 6th October 2020, 09:42 PM

Rowan was someone you really wanted to do well but yeah he deserved to go.

I’d have actually put him out on both week one and week two. Last weeks result still baffles me but yeah there was nobody else in the firing line this week. Quite a tricky week though tonight I agree that aside from the star baker it was hard to see anyone really shine.

I have however got a feeling Lottie is potentially a dark horse who could place high. Just a feeling on occasions she reminds me of Candice Brown

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 7th October 2020, 07:31 AM

I was totally expecting it (and it was certainly his time), but it was sad to see Rowan go! I'm not sure I could predict this year's winner at all though, I'm going to say Lottie or Peter right now if I had to.

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey 13th October 2020, 08:04 PM

Crikey, not a good week for most!

I think Sura will be leaving shortly

Dave has nice arms.

Posted by: Doug 13th October 2020, 08:18 PM

DILF Mark getting star baker wub.gif he’s so likeable and genuinely good but always slightly missed the mark on something so I’m happy to see him win this week. Sad to see Sura go as I’ve loved her cynicism and she’s been really good up until this week, although I’m happier to see Lottie stay as there’s just as much potential I find and she’s so entertaining to boot. Her and Mark are definitely my faves left (although Sura was third).

Posted by: ✖ lewcifer ✖ 13th October 2020, 08:19 PM

The brownies challenge was the first one this series which went horribly wrong for several of them.

They used some very strange phrases. What do “too much white chocolate” and “white chocolate overload” mean? unsure.gif

Oh come on laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Who would you have eliminated the last two weeks out of curiosity?

The only baker this season I’d say who’s been unfairly nominated is Mak in week two. Every other week I’d say the right persons went definitely the last two weeks anyways the weakest person across that episodes challenges has been eliminated. Sura’s cake was literally raw she wasn’t exactly gonna get star baker laugh.gif

She had a terrible week. Your comments are no different from the Daily Mail’s claim that Nadiya’s win a few years ago was due to political correctness.

Posted by: ElectroBoy 14th October 2020, 09:48 AM

Yeah Jack's comments are strange considering she served raw cake and had 3 bad challenges. Its a shame though as she was a stand out until that point.

I like Mark, so was good to see him win star baker... although I don't know if this week it was wholly warranted this week. Linda seemed to get the most praise, so the fact she wasn't even said to be in contention seemed odd.

Posted by: Crypt of the Wombat 14th October 2020, 09:25 PM

The comment's particularly strange when you consider that GBBO is probably one of the most inclusive and fair reality shows out there in terms of participants involved and format, there's no public vote involved, it's purely about baking ability and if you bake an inedible showstopper, then yeah, you're gonna go, no matter what race you are. I mean yes it's a TV show so clearly Rowan stayed a bit longer than he should've cos he was entertaining, but they couldn't justify it for too long. Of all the shows to call racism at, this is a weird target.

Gutted for Sura, but no one else could've gone really after that showstopper sad.gif I'm still hoping Lotti can bounce back after that bad week, I'm quite liking both the Marks as well. Who'd have thought brownies would be the breaking point of everyone?!

Posted by: ɥɔʇᴉʍ 18th October 2020, 12:05 PM

This season is a disaster in terms of getting all the big personalities out early. And now we are left with a nice boring white cis cast. That being said, I expected Sura to go after such a terrible week. Oh well, let's hope Linda and Hermine don't go any time soon because otherwise the remaining episodes will be unwatchable really laugh.gif

Posted by: jlj 18th October 2020, 12:27 PM

Linda is so lovely bless her wub.gif

She’s someone I always root for!

Quite excited for pastry week as it’s one of the more testing weeks for them!

Posted by: Calum 18th October 2020, 12:32 PM

Yeah I'm really not getting the minority comments at all considering that episode was an absolute disaster for Sura. Rowan was a ticking timebomb too, so it was only a matter of how long they could feasibly keep him for without it seeming like a running joke.

I'm glad Lottie managed to survive because I do feel like there's loads of potential there. I can't see her winning at this point though sadly. Really rooting for Peter and Dave!

Posted by: ɥɔʇᴉʍ 18th October 2020, 12:46 PM

They've been grooming him to be the winner since the first gluten-free bake ("ohmahgerd how clever and original and amazing!!1"). I will be shocked if there's a different winner.

Posted by: Liаm 18th October 2020, 09:50 PM

I have little to no desire to watch this with Sura gone sad.gif I totally get that she had to go given what happened, but she was one of the few who made good TV and whilst they're all nice people, I'm kind of bored by the thought of watching a lot of them for the next like 6 weeks or however long sad.gif

I sound so dramatic lmao and I know it's not Big Brother it's just a fun cute little baking show, but still.

Posted by: ɥɔʇᴉʍ 18th October 2020, 09:56 PM

I wonder, between 10 and 20, how many times will they mention Marc(k?)'s daughters, Dave's girlfriend and Peter's brother we already seem to know literally EVERYTHING about?

Posted by: On My Broomstick 20th October 2020, 08:17 PM

Laura was spot on this week, and it was obvious that was Linda's last performance.

And I cracked up when Matt Lucas said "I won't go on Naked Attraction, my body is my own business" biggrin.gif

Posted by: jlj 20th October 2020, 09:35 PM

Aw Linda was such a joy to watch but much like Sura last week I kinda sussed that it was her final episode about half way through.

Very pleased for Laura though! She’s had some critique every episode but this really seemed to be like her thing what she’s comfortable making and it definitely played to her strengths. Bless her it was great to see her in her own lane though and her show stopper was beautifully decorated and her work all this episode all seemed spot on.

We’ve now had 5 different star bakers haven’t we. I don’t think anyone’s won twice yet. Hermine is getting stronger throughout too!

Japanese week next week could be anything and will probably be a real test for them a bit like the vegan week was a few seasons ago.

I don’t know if the standard of actual baking is as high as previous years or if the judges are just harsher this season (or if the challenges themselves are harder).

Posted by: LMLou 20th October 2020, 09:46 PM

Can they stop sending the best people home for like 1 episode please

Posted by: Tafty 21st October 2020, 12:11 AM

Mark had a great (well, in comparison to others at least?) Signature and Technical, but his Showstopper undid all that and he was "in danger" of leaving?

I honestly think, unless it's a huge, inedible disaster, too much weight is put on the Showstopper. Also I actually think Hermine was kinda robbed of Star Baker this week. She seemed to be the most consistently strong performer through all 3 rounds this week. So I was gutted when it wasn't her sad.gif

The sooner we get rid of Dave, the better tbh. You can tell his stuff is just so... bland, but he comes off as quite arrogant and thinks he is better than the stuff he actually produces.

Posted by: PumpQween 21st October 2020, 09:27 AM

Poor Linda, she did deserve to go this week as she was pretty much rubbish throughout but I will miss her. Lottie needs to UP HER GAME big time, but I reckon she will stick around for at least a couple more weeks anyway.

Each week I'm happy when there's someone who's obviously worse than Lottie, I hope she stays for as long as possible and of the obvious contenders I'd definitely be rooting for Mark. A shame Linda was so poor this week but she was so far behind the rest - a complete disaster.

Posted by: Suedehead2 21st October 2020, 09:51 AM

Linda has always seemed lovely but was easily the worst this week Her eclairs were unrecognisable, her showstopper failed and her pasties were samosas. I'm sure she will be entertaining on Extra Slice.

Hermine finally had a decent week after having not really been anywhere near either star baker or elimination in previous weeks and Lottie definitely needs to up her game if she is to stay for much longer.

Posted by: fchd 21st October 2020, 08:54 PM

I spluttered out loud last night when they were asked to make pasties, and Laura said she was keeping it traditional and making a cheese & onion pasty!

Surprised that not one of the bakers tried to make anything approaching a Cornish beef-and-potato pasty

Posted by: jlj 21st October 2020, 09:42 PM

Paul’s liking of Lottie is more obvious by the episode.

Like he blatantly fancies her.

Posted by: ɥɔʇᴉʍ 26th October 2020, 09:18 PM

I need to stop saying that someone should stay because they go the following week.

yay for the white heterosexual male club continuing to be intact.

Hermine was robbed all because the Showstopper didn't LOOK (!) quite as great as they wanted it to look. Literally the reason. I mean come on. She was one of the best in the signature and 2nd in the technical.

All comes down to the next episode to see who's REALLY in contention of winning. If someone wins for the second time then we'll already have found out two finalists (Peter is already there, I mean let's be honest for a second).

Posted by: Billy. 26th October 2020, 10:54 PM

I hate how there seems to be an agenda against straight white males in this thread? Like they can all bake and are just doing better than the so called personalities...

I really hope Lottie can up her game this week though!

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey 27th October 2020, 09:49 PM

Shame to see Mark go this week sad.gif

Posted by: dandy* 27th October 2020, 10:02 PM

Lottie though!!! wub.gif

Posted by: Klumpkin 27th October 2020, 10:40 PM

Lottie smashed it this week! She's carrying this season for me tbh! Shame to see Mark go but it was the right decision, having a cake described as 'inedible' is not the best note to finish off on! Hopefully we shouldn't hear anymore of this 'straight white male favouritism' considering we have 3 men and 3 women left.

Posted by: PumpQween 28th October 2020, 04:00 PM

Poor Mark, I wanted him and Lottie together to the end. His showstopper did massively let him down, but it did feel obvious he was going over Hermine after the ''consistent'' comments earlier in the episode. Also, Laura's showstopper looked so cute.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 28th October 2020, 05:12 PM

Yeah after Lottie Mark had easily been my favourite but can't argue with that decision, there was no one who was particularly bad this week and as he hadn't really excelled in either of the first two it was unfortunately an obvious choice

So pleased Lottie won the star baker, that jiggly toadstool wub.gif

Posted by: ɥɔʇᴉʍ 29th October 2020, 12:20 PM

Okay, good good! We are getting there. Hermine deserves a win at some point. Hopefully they have a patisserie week soon and she's still there by then.

Posted by: Rossco 29th October 2020, 11:38 PM

I have to say the standard this year is absolutely appalling. I’ve just caught up on the last few weeks and am left thinking is this seriously the best bakers they could find in the UK? Not one person could make a solid brownie? So poor this year.

Posted by: Crypt of the Wombat 30th October 2020, 06:38 PM

I suppose so, but the themes are WAY better. Japanese week followed by 80s week is amazing, those Kawaii cakes looked amazing wub.gif I sensed Lottie would do quite well with this and I'm really pleased as she's easily my favourite. Not certain she'll make the final as she's a bit more risk-taking, but I'm hopeful she can make the quarters/semis. I stanned Mark L's accent so I guess that's a shame, but can't argue with the decision.

Posted by: Klaus 3rd November 2020, 09:49 PM

Its surely got to be between Hermine and Peter for the win?! Definitely the most consistent bakers there.

I’d agree on that.

Poor Laura she’s a real fave of mine and I always just root for her every week. So glad she managed to just about stay again!

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 3rd November 2020, 10:05 PM

I think Lottie is brilliant and I'm devastated she's out, Laura very lucky to be staying in. Probably the right decision, one messed up the showstopper because of a daft mistake, the other messed up making a fundamental error and neither particularly excelled on the first day.

Posted by: Suedehead2 3rd November 2020, 11:17 PM

Sad to see Lottie go but, OTOH, I got Laura in the sweepstake. Dave had a shaky week but saved himself with the showstopper. Assuming he is back on form in the next two weeks, I'd go for Dave, Peter and Hermine in the final.

Posted by: b 4th November 2020, 11:01 AM

I'm absolutely DYING at this image

Posted by: Mart!n 4th November 2020, 06:20 PM

Poor Lottie, she did well to get that far, its a shame she messed up, mind you it was a decision between those 2.

Posted by: Tafty 5th November 2020, 01:23 AM

Ugh. I was really... REALLY hoping we were finally losing David this week cry.gif Gutted that Lottie is gone </3 But her time wa scoming up, despite winning star baker just last week.

YESSSS for Hermine though heart.gif I genuinely think she's gonna be final 3 at least. Extremely consistent, but seems to be improving a little more and more each time.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 5th November 2020, 11:33 PM

Sorry for jinxing it guys, there goes my favourite :'( The showstopper was pretty terrible judgement though which was such a shame as she always had such unique ideas, she was just slightly too erratic. I guess the most memorable bakers always are.

Hermine would definitely be my hope to win now, really glad she finally got star baker. Peter is obviously competent and is my sweepstake and all, but I just can't warm to him, idk how wide eyed and innocent can you be?!

Finally someone else! He really annoys me and I can’t put my finger on it at all. Like really annoys :’)

Posted by: b 5th November 2020, 11:42 PM

I'm also joining the 'Peter is Meh' club. Competent is indeed a good word to describe him but I can't see anything past that. :/

Posted by: Liаm 6th November 2020, 01:33 AM

Peter annoys me too, he's just, and this sounds silly to say, TOO competent? Idk who to describe why he annoys me other than the fact he's got big energy of that one kid at school who would remind the supply teacher that you have an alphabetical seating plan and homework is due today.

Dave is similarly boring but he can stay in so we have something to look at whistle.gif Hermine is the only one left with a likeable personality tbh, Marc has NONE whatsoever, and Laura just annoys me because she's all "LOL look at me I'm so relatable, I don't even know what I'm doing LOL".

Lottie was my fave after Sura went sad.gif I guess it was kinda payback for her being super lucky that Sura messed up the other week as that was the only reason she stayed then, but Laura not even turning the ice cream maker on.... I guess both Lottie and Laura's showstoppers were kind of unforgivable at this stage, Laura not putting the chill setting on was a really dumb mistake for top 6 of Bake Off, but then Lottie failed spectacularly too and it was really a coin toss if we're being fair and leaving aside Lottie being a more entertaining personality.

I know it's not Big Brother but it's really hard when you see most of the bakers and just think meh, you've still got to want to watch them as it's them who make the show.

Posted by: b 6th November 2020, 09:13 AM

I wouldn't really mind is Marc won, he's likeable enough. But other than that Laura started to annoy me a tiny bit with her f*** ups. Dave is just an 'UGH' personified. I mean he's so totally BLAND. And the bakes from him I remember were all style over substance judging by the comments.

Hermine is a runaway winner for me. Extremely consistent in bakes + very very likeable and funny.

Posted by: Billy. 6th November 2020, 01:01 PM

Peter is my pick to win as I think he has been the best baker so far - he's brought some unique ideas to the challenges too which I enjoyed and I think he seems quite genuine.

Posted by: Andrew. 7th November 2020, 03:47 PM

There's always one 'humble' highly competent male contestant I can't stand and it's Peter this year laugh.gif Like Liam said, he's too perfect if that makes sense. Dave is a DILF but personality wise I'm not fussed, Laura is nice enough now she's not going on about her pizza oven every three seconds and Marc seems lovely but I don't get much from him. It's gotta be Hermine wub.gif

Posted by: Klaus 10th November 2020, 10:16 PM

What a bizarre finalist Laura would be laugh.gif

Felt like this week was her week to go, so what a week to actually pull it out the bag!

Posted by: Botchia 10th November 2020, 10:18 PM

Hermine star baker again *.* Her showstopper was amazing!!

Posted by: Liаm 10th November 2020, 10:22 PM

Laura is SO frustrating because I know it has to be based on what's presented that week, but she's done awfully so many times it would be annoying for her to be a finalist over people who just messed up once or twice on a close week.

Posted by: jlj 10th November 2020, 10:32 PM

Laura is such an icon. I love her personality and I root and cheer so much when she does well.

But she has definitely been very lucky! Like a few weeks she probably should’ve went and come close to leaving but who knows what’s gonna happen. I was pretty sure she’d have gone this week they edited it to make it look like she’d messed up in every challenge but she ended up being the second best person overall this week.

Hermine for the win though! I think it’s between her and Peter I’m expecting both of those to be in the final but if something shocking happens and it’s just one of them in the final with the other leaving in the semi then the one who makes the final I feel would walk it!

That technical this week was a choice! Don’t think I’ve ever seen a challenge where everyone’s comments were bad and everyone’s food looked bad too laugh.gif

Posted by: Doug 17th November 2020, 09:20 PM

Mark L, Lottie, Sura and Hermine are far more likeable than the three that have made it to the end. Laura is likeable enough but has received many free passes, Dave is just annoying and his bakes don’t look as outstanding as Prue and Paul claim, and then there is Peter who is literally Andrew from Candice’s season - so falsely smug about everything. Not interested in seeing the final at all now really.

Posted by: Suedehead2 17th November 2020, 09:22 PM

Hermine was really unlucky but changing her plan the day before filming was a huge risk. Choosing Hermine to go almost made it look like they were determined to demonstrate that they judge purely on what happened that week.

Posted by: Liаm 17th November 2020, 09:24 PM

It's a shame because she did do terribly on that showstopper, but it really is incredibly frustrating that Laura has been awful for so many weeks and ALWAYS seems to scrape out somehow. I get that the show goes off of just that week and that's how it went, Hermine had a terrible week, but I think when it comes to the final, it just seems a joke that someone who's messed up as much as Laura is there.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 17th November 2020, 09:39 PM

I don't think it was too unfair and they are consistent with judging on each week which is fair enough, Hermine messed up on both key challenges and the technical was very close together so never counts as much, and this was Patisserie where she should have excelled. Saying that, Laura does feel exceedingly lucky that her showstopper tasted a little bit better, it'll certainly be very strange if she manages to win after having a strong week.

If they didn't base it just on that week, there would be little point in Laura turning up for the final. Her only chance of winning would be if Peter and Dave both forgot to turn their oven on at any point in the whole two days.

what an absolute joke

they’re based it on the whole series before in the semi-final. there’s absolutely no doubting Hermine is a better baker than Laura who has scraped her way through. I’d understand if it had been more even across the series or if it had been an earlier week but that’s an absolute farce.

This is what I meant more yes was Hermine's bake the best? no but at least she managed to ice the cake, laura's counter got more of a glaze than the cakes did. Laura has never been able to finalize these little details like the other three have so constantly scraps by and is rewarded for it. Surely it makes more sense in order to have the best finale to have three strong competitors than have someone who is way weaker than the others.

The only time they made a decision based on the series as a whole was when they decided they couldn't separate two people on that week's performance alone.

Gobsmacked at who went this week, I'm guessing that makes it a complete two-horse race between the boys! Laura has been so lucky to get as far as she did!

Hermine sad.gif Going on what should've been her best week!

Posted by: jlj 18th November 2020, 12:08 AM

Poor Hermine! I had her down as the winner last week. I feel for her because overall she’s been so consistently strong and on paper I though she’d excel this week.

Laura really has to be the most chaotic finalist I’ve ever seen. I love her personality but I’ve never known a baker literally just scrape through as many times as what she has. Feels like every week she’s had some sort of disaster but someone else’s has tasted worse or had an even bigger one.

I feel like as it gets later down the line they should perhaps take the whole series into account but yeah.

It seems quite an open final now then. On paper youd assume Peter will walk it but I remember one year there was a baker (I think she was called Steph) she went into the final a massive favourite with something like 4 or 5 star baker wins and she fluffed the final so if he does that it could go to any of the other two.

Laura is someone you just root for though. She’s so likeable and she’s been on one hell of a journey.

Posted by: Tafty 18th November 2020, 01:57 AM

Hermine (and Peter) has been the most consistent and solid baker throughout and it's not like Laura had a great month... Hermine had the potential to absolutely deliver in the final. Her flavours were constantly (even in her more underwhelming bakes) a highlight. It's a shame that one crap week ruined it for her. I agree that too much weight gets put on the actual week when they're in the semi-final. sad.gif

I just think this is the blandest finale in terms of the bakers themselves AND their bakes. Tbh not a whole lot this season has stood out as "INCREDIBLE" to me - it's been a largely underwhelming season in my opinion.

Hermine was my absolute favourite from the start though wub.gif What a pure soul! heart.gif

EDIT: Also unpopular (seemingly) but I want Peter to win.

Posted by: Klaus 18th November 2020, 08:21 AM

Oh I definitely want Peter to win, think it he gets far too much unwarranted hate....

Although at the same time, I want Laura to win just to sum up the series in general. I don’t think any baker has been given so many chances.

Posted by: Doug 18th November 2020, 08:33 AM

My sister said that Laura is literally the Cheryl Hole/Roxxxy Andrews of this series... summed up perfectly!

Posted by: Mikee1981 18th November 2020, 09:59 AM

first week my top 3 was Peter, Dave and Lottie and 2 still there, Laura is the showstopper assassin does 2 crap bakes then comes for the kill, gutted for Hermine she certainly should have been in the final

Posted by: ElectroBoy 18th November 2020, 10:25 AM

Yeah it was a shame thgat Hermine went, but it was understandable. Laura's may have looked crap, but as with her signature it tasted good.

Out of the finalists I want Laura to win.... I didn't really care about her at the start, but she's grown on me quite a lot and is the only one of the finalists with a personality.

Peter and Dave seem to be unable to blink and both have very intense eyes. Peter also is quite robotic, I expect him to win though.

Posted by: HarryBorelli 18th November 2020, 01:04 PM

Well I want Dave to win cos i have him in sweepstake here BUT i think it will be peter. I can't see it being Laura at all.

Posted by: Liаm 18th November 2020, 03:17 PM

Dave in his shorts was the highlight of yesterday tbf

I'm expecting Peter to win because they said it was a close one in the preview and in those cases I feel like they'd look at how Peter has been the strongest of the 3 across the series and give it to him, but that's based on nothing laugh.gif For all we know, that could mean Peter bombed and Dave and Laura did really well and it's neck and neck where they can't decide I guess

Posted by: Suedehead2 18th November 2020, 03:49 PM

It looks like Laura has had to put up with a lot of nasty comments who think yesterday's result is somehow her fault sad.gif

Posted by: dandy* 18th November 2020, 04:30 PM

Good for her. I like Laura and, whilst she's definitely scraped through a few rounds, she wasn't the worst yesterday. She made a delicious cake with one error (the glaze) whilst Hermine unfortunately made lots of errors from the way it looked to the way it tasted sad.gif On day one I doubt Hermine was that far ahead of Laura either, it was only the technical where she did notably better.

Posted by: b 18th November 2020, 04:35 PM

It’s silly though as Hermine was clearly the worst yesterday. Laura had 2 things which didn’t look good but tasted good-great

Can’t be any worse than the year Rahul won when he’d been crap for three weeks leading to the final and was also crap in the final but still won biggrin.gif

Posted by: Chez Wombat 18th November 2020, 05:47 PM

I mean actually Rahul's year was probably my favourite final 3 in recent years - all really distinctive personalities and bakers that weren't always perfect throughout, but still worthy of being there (I mean I may biased as I was like the only one here that liked Rahul but yeah).

The finalists just don't stand out much to me this year (except Laura really!). It was the same last year. Guess it's not the show's fault, but it's a shame as it's just made me care a lot less.

That's what's made this series enjoyable for me - the standard hasn't been at an OTT. Its also made for a much more interesting series as anyone can go at any time.

Plus Matt coming in has been brilliant. Overall for me I've really enjoyed this year - also doing it with everything going on has kind of made it more special.

Posted by: Suedehead2 24th November 2020, 09:30 PM

Definitely the right winner based on the whole series and probably just about edged it tonight..

Good to see the dedications at the end to all of the crew and to Luis.

Posted by: dandy* 24th November 2020, 09:33 PM

Dave's idea seemed like a really good one at first... until you realise he's basically making the things he can't do very well and it suddenly seems less sensible!

Posted by: Chez Wombat 24th November 2020, 09:34 PM

YAY I won the sweepstake cheer.gif

Much as I can't really warm to him, it was probably the right result as he was consistently the best throughout the series, I was thinking Dave could just about win it with the edit he was getting, but I wouldn't have been surprised either way. I love that they didn't even TRY to edit Laura as a contender, I swear they've never done that before and just had the two runners up? laugh.gif

Not the best series for a number of reasons, though I will miss it purely for the glimpse of normality it offered in these times!

The way they didnt even try and edit Laura as a contender just showed they should’ve sent Hermine into the final.

But yeah the right winner I’d say based on the whole series!

YAY I won the sweepstake cheer.gif

Much as I can't really warm to him, it was probably the right result as he was consistently the best throughout the series, I was thinking Dave could just about win it with the edit he was getting, but I wouldn't have been surprised either way. I love that they didn't even TRY to edit Laura as a contender, I swear they've never done that before and just had the two runners up? laugh.gif

The first day went so badly for Laura that even the cleverest editing couldn’t have made her look like a contender laugh.gif

Yes I'm pleased for Peter. He was perfectly nice enough and did deserve to win too, it just doesn't feel like he's had much of a journey to get there - even though it's a journey lasting half of his life(!)

ps Dave offering "I'll feed you later if you want me to" has to be one of the more unlikely sentences of the series.

Well deserved win for Peter!

Could have gone either way but a nice winner.

Still gutted for Hermine

Why did they insist on recording it on the one day that Tom Allen wasn't recording something else? sad.gif

I love Tom Allen!

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one laugh.gif

omg poor Alexandra was reduced to background singer as the contestants and judges were interviewed at the end over the top of her! Seemed quite odd to sandwich in a music performance into a show about baking. Have they ever done this before?

Thankfully. She was awful.

They've her performers on the last few, but they usually get more prominence IIRC laugh.gif

Though her song wasn't really one they could sing along to
