BuzzJack Music Forum _ Kylie and Dannii Minogue _ What Kylie/Dannii songs are you listening to?

Posted by: liamk97 26th September 2011, 05:03 PM

Taken from the Madonna forum tongue.gif But it's a good way to discuss your favourites and discover songs you haven't heard! biggrin.gif

I've been listening to the following today:
Love, Love, Love
Better Than Today
Mighty Rivers
Heartstrings
Silence
All I See (acoustic)
Some Kind of Bliss
Put Yourself in my Place
Confide in Me (original + Hurts version)
Breathe (original + acoustic)

In a Kylie mood! biggrin.gif Listened to Love, Love, Love for the first time today, such a great track! Can't believe it's not on an album! ohmy.gif
Silence is probably my favourite Kylie b-side! wub.gif
I'm into the DeCo singles atm, and acoustic versions!

Posted by: Regina 26th September 2011, 05:09 PM

Listen to the acoustic version of Where is The Feeling? tongue.gif

Posted by: liamk97 26th September 2011, 05:15 PM

Wow! It's fantastic! wub.gif MUCH better than the original, since I hate the original! tongue.gif

Posted by: Regina 26th September 2011, 06:51 PM

The original is too dman long sad.gif

Posted by: Euphorique 27th September 2011, 03:03 AM

I've been obsessed with Put Yourself In My Place so much recently.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 27th September 2011, 12:37 PM

I've been listening to the Aphrodite album like almost everyday.

Posted by: liamk97 7th October 2011, 10:02 PM

I have all of Kylie's singles playlisted on YouTube, and have been listening to this on repeat. I really wished that It's No Secret had been released in the UK, I reallu love the song, and it would have probably been a success, since the preceeding three singles have reach number 2, so It's No Secret would have most likely reached the Top 5/10.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 8th October 2011, 03:27 AM

Just watched the You won't forget about me video the other day, it's just absolute classic!

My favourite Dannii song! wub.gif It's on The Vault music channel sometimes biggrin.gif

Went to Blackpool Tower yesterday, and there was a 4D Experience of Blackpool Tower, and All the Lovers was playing, despite the song not having anything to do with Blackpool Tower tongue.gif

Posted by: Dannyboy 30th October 2011, 03:08 PM

To be honest I havent listening to Kylie/Dannii in quite a while now. I think if I was going to though, I would prob put on one of the old 80s/90s albums.

Just listen to Password, which is a hidden track on some copies of Light Years. To listen to it, you have to rewind past the beginning (Spinning Around) or continue past the end (Light Years). It's a great track, and I'm glad I discovered it! wub.gif

Posted by: liamk97 20th November 2011, 05:51 PM

Listened to all the b-sides from 2000+. It appears that Password was the b-side to Your Disco Needs You, as well as a hidden Light Years track biggrin.gif Cover Me With Kisses, Go Hard or Go Home, and Silence are my favourites! wub.gif

Alone Again (Dubtronic's Edit)

Until we get a full version, this mix will be perfect wub.gif This would have been a perfect song for her to release, Madonna is a good songwriter.

Light Years - just finishing the album itself for the first time. Got given this and Body Language by my sister yesterday.

Indeed it was! Lucky for me that she's gone off Kylie. tongue.gif I thought it was pretty decent, a lot more consistent than Body Language was I thought, but both had their highlights. I'm hoping to get Fever, X and Aphrodite at some point soon before I go and get the older albums.

Light Years was the first Kylie album I got, and I loved every track on the album! The singles are just superb - especially Spinning Around and On a Night Like This! wub.gif Body Language is probably my least favourite from the 00's, but again, the singles are great - Chocolate, so underated! You should like Fever, X and Aphrodite. Pure Kylie pop! Aside from the singles, my faves are Burning Up (Fever), Stars (X), Aphrodite and Cupid Boy (Aphrodite).

Thank you for the recommendations, I'll check them out on Spotify tonight. And yes, I did like Chocolate, despite someone I know who loves Kylie telling me it was crap. tongue.gif I've got 2 Hearts and All The Lovers already, someone sent them to me, and also Get Outta My Way from a Now album. But yeah, I look forward to hearing some more of her albums!

Posted by: Liаm 28th May 2012, 05:55 PM

I'm far from Kylie's biggest fan but my god X is fantastic. One of the best pop albums I've ever heard! Aphrodite is pretty great as well, but X is my big Kylie reccomendation.

Posted by: ✞✞✞ 28th May 2012, 05:56 PM

Light Years is a funny one. For the most part it's well produced and catchy without being overly cheesy, but then the likes of Loveboat and Koocachoo veer wildly into karaoke singer on a cruise ship territory and the whole thing becomes too GAY even for me. There are probably five fillers which is more than the average Kylie record, but the highs are undeniably high. The singles, title track and Butterfly are especially glorious.

Fever is one of the greatest pop records of all time. Flawless start to end.

Body Language is by far her most consistent record sonically probably since Rhythm of Love so people seem to either love or hate it. I personally like how subtle it is but her vocals are not on top form for the most part and it's more a record full of album tracks than one of singles. Loving Days is utterly MAJESTIC.

X was a bipolar MESS. The first half is strong although not particularly consistent sound-wise, the second half falls apart... God only knows what anybody involved in Heartbeat Rock was thinking. I sort of like Nu-di-ty on a purely ironic level. All I See was a pathetic attempt at American R&B-lite pop and let's not even talk about Cosmic. That said Like A Drug is pure classic Kylie and should've been the lead single. Speakerphone and Sensitized are also quite something.

Aphrodite was a bit sugary and plasticy and she wasn't on great vocal form this time either. It all felt a bit underbaked. The title song, All The Lovers and Illusion are pretty great, the rest I can mostly take or leave. Heartstrings should've been properly mastered and included on the album.

I pretty much agree on Light Years and Body Language. I feel BL is more consistent yet LY has higher highs.

X will definitely be the next album I'll listen to, and that'll either be after the soaps or tomorrow. I'll let you guys know what I think. biggrin.gif

I love it. tongue.gif It's probably my favourite out of the ones I've heard so far. I just connect it to Doctor Who though, and anyone who knows me really well knows how much I love Doctor Who. tongue.gif (The Doctor has two hearts, for those who don't know, and Kylie was of course in Doctor Who)

LOL, I'm such a geek when it comes to Doctor Who. tongue.gif But yeah, that could be why. Either way, I love the song anyway.

Giving X a listen now, hoping I'll enjoy it!

Posted by: Regina 24th November 2012, 08:33 PM

Please Stay

I feel this is possibly one of her most underrated singles ever sob.gif its a lovely song and a personal favourite of mine. She needs more songs with a latin influence and needs to peroform this more.

Get Outta My Way

Played on 'BuzzMuzik' which was quite surprising! The programme is called "50 Feisty Party Girls" so there's quite a few non-current songs. Despite what people say, I think it was a good single choice and was Top 10 worthy.

Posted by: JosephAloud 1st March 2013, 04:24 PM

Get Outta My Way is one of my favourite Kylie songs, without a doubt. Should've done so much better than it did.

Posted by: Regina 1st March 2013, 04:28 PM

GOMW is amazing, but a bit Kylie by numbers which is why I don't think it worked as a single. Translates amazingly when done live wub.gif

Kylie 'BPM'

Such an anthem. Proper single material as well. I kind of wish the GH project had become a studio album (as was originally intended) because the music from those sessions was simply fabulous. Although I guess it would've been cut short by the cancer anyway.

I find it so strange that it's her FOURTH best selling single in the UK! My least favourite song on X, but something about this mix makes me like it a little bit more.

Posted by: liamk97 2nd June 2013, 06:49 PM

I'd still say 'Chocolate' was my favourite from that album, although it's been a while since I heard it last so my opinion may have changed. I'm quite surprised that 'Red Blooded Woman' seems to always be played during "Kylie hours" on the music channels, especially when I never hear 'Confide in Me' or 'I Believe in You'. In fact, the same goes to 'Tears On My Pillow' which is surprising as I've always assumed most people dislike it.

I've never held as high opinion of 'Slow' as most people on this site do, although it's grown on me quite a bit in recent years. I still regard my least favourite from Body Language, although that said, I think it was the best choice for lead single. tongue.gif

Still angers me how 'Secret (Take You Home)' aka the gem of the album was never a single. I'd have rather she released it instead of 'Red Blooded Woman' which hasn't aged at all well for me and is one of her weaker singles.

I've never held as high opinion of 'Slow' as most people on this site do, although it's grown on me quite a bit in recent years. I still regard my least favourite from Body Language, although that said, I think it was the best choice for lead single. tongue.gif

Unfortunately, everyone hates '2 Hearts' sad.gif (aside me, Regina and Joseph, maybe Liam?).

Chocolate is another song that I don't understand the fuss for at all. no.gif It's really not that great, IMO, but the video makes up for that slightly. kink.gif

The video for Red Blooded Woman (especially the beginning) is fantastic, too. *.* wub.gif

Although Body Language on the whole is a fantastic album, it was probably my least favourite of all of her tours (even if the Body Language tour was just an album promotion tour), although the section where she performed Je t'aime, Breathe, and After Dark was beautiful. wub.gif There are some gems on the album though, including Sweet Music and Obsession.

I don't think there's one post-2000 video where Kylie doesn't look sexy, if not any video! tongue.gif

Body Language is an album which I can't really get into properly. The singles are great, along with about 3 other tracks, but the rest is quite forgettable. sad.gif

Really? I'd have said that was one of her least attractive videos. I'm all for more Kylie, but there is something not so sexy about a 3 story tall Kylie. laugh.gif

Actually, the wig in the 'Wow' video is hideous, so that might just beat 'Giving You Up' (although she looks fab during the scenes in front of the neon lights. wub.gif)

I can't imagine Secret (Take You Home) going down well as a single. The raps are probably too un-Kylie for it to have worked.

Top 5:

2 Hearts
Stars
The One
Rippin' Up The Disco
Like A Drug

All I See is one track that I really love too, it took the longest to grow. Although, it might be due to me mishearing some of it, I always hear
"the BJ's got me feeling like a dick when I first met you" rather than "the DJ's got me feeling like I did when i first met you"

3. All I See
4. Wow

That's the one which sprung to my mind too. I also think that from the material that's on there, the Body Language singles were chosen well, although I wouldn't call them "perfect" despite being perfect choices (at least not in the way those from Fever or X).

Light Years wub.gif

The single campaign for Light Years was excellent, TBF. And the videos for each single were rather amazing. The beginning of On A Night Like This is so slutty, and Please Stay is arousing when she goes downstairs to the snooker club. kink.gif

Posted by: pippa 13th June 2013, 08:35 AM

I would certainly agree Light Years is a better album than Fever, i would disagree that the singles campaign for Light Years was spot on. Please Stay while a nice catchy song but was best left staying as an album track. There were other songs that would have been bigger hits and sold the album a bit further. The video's were all excellent for all the singles but so were the Fever video's.

The singles campaign for Fever was fantastic, all singles were well promoted and performed well and each single gave the album a nice sales injection. Come Into My World i would agree was a weak choice but it did reasonably well for a 4th single of a big selling album.

X had some fantastic singles if only they released Like A Drug instead of 2 Hearts or properly released The One, had it gone that way X would have without doubt hit double platinum sales in the UK if not more. X in parts is a bloody amazing album that is home to so many great tracks.

Did anybody else watch An Audience With Kylie Minogue back in 2001? I'm watching that just now on YouTube, yet I can still remember all of what happened in it, especially that duet with Kermit the frog. laugh.gif The performance with Adam Garcia, though, of Better the Devil You Know just always reminds me of the Kylie/Leon X Factor duet.

Posted by: pippa 13th June 2013, 10:31 AM

I have seen it a few times and it was a great show and i still enjoy the Kermit duet. I did not like the Adam Garcia duet as i did not like that version of Better the devil you know, likewise i did not like the arrangement of the song when she dueted with Leon Jackson. Fever (the song) was performed greatly on that show and the megamix was so full of life.

'Please Stay' is sweet and catchy but to be quite frank, before I had listened to the whole of Kylie's back catalogue, I had no idea it was a single! laugh.gif The previous three singles from Light Years were really big, I seem to remember (that said, the chart runs for 'Spinning Around' and 'On a Night Like This' really don't reflect that). It would probably have been best releasing 'Your Disco Needs You' in the UK instead. Yes it was extremely camp, but this is what Kylie was starting to be all about. Unless the record company just didn't want her to be perceived as such, but that didn't ever work out. tongue.gif

That said, 'Please Stay' did perform reasonably well for a 4th single in the Christmas market (this market seems to be very hit and miss when it comes to new releases). Besides, it is a good song so it's not as if I feel disgusted it was a single. It's a bit like 'Come Into My Word' - it performed well considering, was catchy and a very good song, but not "perfect" like the previous singles. Then again, for 'Come Into My World', I can't think off the top of my head a better choice of single.

I love '2 Hearts' so I always object to this being replaced, however I do think it would have been good if 'Like a Drug' had been released, but then again, I'm not too fussed it wasn't as I feel that something would have to be replaced. 'The One' certainly did deserve a proper release, does anyone know why the physical release was dropped last minute?

YES, Your Disco Needs You is fab! wub.gif One of the highlights of Light Years for me.

Posted by: Aphrodite 13th June 2013, 08:28 PM

I dont think your disco needs you would have worked as a single, i do like it but i think it may have been perceived as far to camp and thats why they didnt go with it as a single. For me i like please stay but wouldnt have picked it as a single, but on reflection it went top 10 at christmas time and didnt get lost by any means and did well as fourth single, for me under the influence, disco down, possibly butterfly or light years would have made stronger singles. I do love light years album though and its probably her strongest album for me and was such a fantastic comeback. Fever was excellent to but the one thing i so remember when listening to light years was thank god the Kylie i really love is back, i loved impossible princess wasnt so keen on km94 but as good as IP was it wasnt what kylie does best.

X was hit and miss for me on release, 2 hearts i dont hate or love but the one thing i will say for X the songs that are good are excellent and i adore them, Wow, In my arms, the one, like a drug i adore to this day and listen to them alot, stars i still enjoy from time to time and 2 hearts gets an odd listen to as well, the others i dont really care for all that much. I still believe like a drug and The One shoud have proper full on singles and had they been singles they would have done well and X would have achieved higher sales.

Love At First Sight

The 'Kylie' version, not the 'Fever' one, her debut is very dated but oh so enjoyable wub.gif

Posted by: liamk97 5th March 2014, 09:11 PM

I've been listening to Fever these past couple of days since I rarely listen to it and I think I may have been too critical of it in the past. I used to think there were a few fillers whereas now I think all are album worthy. The singles have always been among the best in her career and I've always liked 'More More More' and 'Burning Up', however now I'm really starting to gain a love for 'Dancefloor' and 'Love Affair' - can hear elements of disco in there. wub.gif

I still prefer Light Years though; I guess you could say that has a bit more personality, perhaps just because I have strong memories of it as a child.

Been giving 'I Don't Know What It Is' several spins these past couple of days.

Another excellent song that failed to make the final cut to X. I wonder what Kylie's thoughts of this album are and whether she's aware so many fans love the B-sides/unreleased tracks more than some of the songs on the tracking-list.

I'd personally love a 10 year anniversary edition to be released in 2017 but that's not likely to happen. tongue.gif

Love ALL the unleashed tracks as they are more rnb pop dance
Favourties

She needs to have more lesser known gems like TIIL in the Golden Showers Tour.

Yes! Revisit the Anti Tour setlist, Kylie!

Posted by: liamk97 18th February 2018, 06:50 PM

Not seen the Aphrodite performance yet but I'll be sure to check it out. There's so many stunning performances in her DeCon era and I don't think a lot of the public realise just how talented she is.

So the Aphrodite Tour performance is also a beauty! I adore the rawness of the 1995 version but you can tell Kylie has become more experienced and technically stronger as a vocalist over the years.

Proper going back in time, I've recently fallen in love with 'I'm Over Dreaming (Over You)'. I was watching her Anti Tour and discovered how catchy it is. Clearly a fan favourite going by the reception of the crowd and I think it would have made a great single actually.

Posted by: Regina 26th February 2018, 05:56 PM

I'm Over Dreaming (Over You) is a major missed oppertunity heart.gif

Posted by: liamk97 26th February 2018, 06:07 PM

Watching this and it just feels like such a Kylie classic, as if it was a hit single back in the 80s for her.

I know it was a #1 so you can't forsake it, but I think this would have been a better choice of single over 'Tears On My Pillow' in the long term.

Posted by: Regina 26th February 2018, 06:12 PM

Tears On My Pillow was always going to be a single due it being used to promote The Delinquents tbh.

Posted by: liamk97 26th February 2018, 06:30 PM

Yeah, I suppose that's true. I do really like her cover of 'Tears On My Pillow' though, just 'I'm Over Dreaming' seems like such a missed opportunity.

Perhaps I'm looking to into it, but I wonder if 'I'm Over Dreaming' getting a 7-inch makeover and being B-side to 'Better the Devil You Know' suggests there were plans for it to be a single but were shelved in favour of moving onto the next era?

Posted by: liamk97 14th June 2018, 07:19 PM

This has really hit me recently. Kiss Me Once would have been such a stronger album had they ditched the Kylie-by-numbers songs and followed the more experimental dance route instead.

I'm not saying it should be on Fever or anything, just that it probably deserves a bit more recognition in its own right!

But yeah, definitely 'Tightrope' on the album instead of 'Give It To Me' and it is 100% perfect.

Oh yeah, definitely should be one people check out, I can see a fair few fans liking it.

Tightrope is so good. I can kinda see why it was left off the album but, a bit like Lost Without You for Golden, it's one of those songs that are too good to leave out.

Been listening to this one a lot recently. I never paid much attention to it at the time - was all about 'Your Body' for me - but it's an interesting style of dance music for Kylie and one that suits her really well. Those last 30 seconds are wonderful! She should work with Garibay and Moroder again. Just think that Kiss Me Once could have sounded more like this!

Even as a big chart fan I didn't realise this!

I know 'Red Blooded Woman' was very unfortunate to have been released in a competitive week (would have been a #3 if released the week before or after) and don't get me started on 'I Believe in You' likely being cost a #1 placing due to its physical release two weeks after the album and over a month after being available to download! drama.gif

'Giving You Up' is a song I'm guilty of overlooking too, but I really enjoy it when I hear it. The trio of Xenomania songs that Kylie did in 2004 were really interesting; they've always had a knack of switching up the pop formula and they do a great job with Kylie.

What would people have thought about this being the third single from Aphrodite over 'Better Than Today'? It's got similarities to 'We Found Love' by Rihanna and 'Call My Name' by Cheryl which were both big number ones within the two years that passed. I don't think 'Too Much' would have been anywhere near as big as those but maybe it could have been just what Kylie needed at that point?

Posted by: ___∆___ 28th May 2019, 09:17 PM

^^ I really like ‘Too Much’ and would have been very much of its time had it been a single, tbh I think anything would have been better than ‘Better Than Today’ - the record company seemed to panic after they deemed ‘Get Outta My Way’ as a failure (Looking at interviews around this era both Kylie and the label thought GOMW was going to be big).

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 29th May 2019, 12:50 AM

I never did and still dont understand why so many thought get outta my way was going to be big, it never screamed big hit to me at all.

Posted by: Medellíam 29th May 2019, 03:04 PM

'Get Outta My Way' is a bit like 'Red Blooded Woman' in the sense that it was hailed a huge album highlight right from the off and considered to have big chart potential but just didn't manifest itself. I'm not sure why they thought 'Better Than Today' would have pulled it back - maybe based on the reception it received on the US tour the previous year? I just remember no-one saw it coming as a single at the time. I guess the release 'strategy' and the X Factor performance being weeks ahead would have meant anything that was released would have suffered, but at least something like 'Too Much' or 'Aphrodite' would have stood the test of time a bit more and be looked back on more fondly.

Posted by: pippa 29th May 2019, 04:30 PM

Better Than Today, was a very surprise choice of 3rd single.
The surprise level wasn't quiet as high as Where Is The Feeling surprise but both were not choices anyone saw coming.
I do enjoy Better Than Today and rate it above Get Outta My Way but it is a song fans would rate higher if it was left as an album track.
2 Hearts is another one of those style of songs that i think more of us would more fondly rate if it was an album track and not a single or a lead single for that matter.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 31st May 2019, 03:47 AM

Get outta my way and 2 hearts are def 2 songs I'd appreciate more if they were just album tracks.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 31st May 2019, 10:23 AM

'Get Outta My Way' has really gone down as a cult classic in the gay world, I do know people who actually consider it their favourite song.

With regards to 'I Believe In You', it would have been helpful if they'd not released it against Band Aid 20.

Posted by: pippa 31st May 2019, 12:37 PM

I Believe In You would easily have made it to the Top if it wasnt but up against one of the biggest charity singles of the year.
They really messed up on pitting it against Band Aid 20.

I have to say living in Germany I still enjoy the fact that YDNY was a single over here. Kylie was on Germany's biggest show and I still remember her amazing performance there. The song / video was played on all radio stations and music channels. It became her highest charting song in Germany since Where The Wild Roses Grow and her biggest solo hit since Better The Devil You Know.

Chocolate has just come on shuffle and I always forget just how GOOD this song is! It's absolutely lush, and it's made me sad about its exclusion from Step Back in Time now. Definitely think it could've slotted in around the Please Stay / 2 Hearts / Red Blooded Woman section of disc 1.

Posted by: Medellíam 15th August 2019, 11:30 PM

I've listened to 'Chocolate' a few times recently too and the production of the track is so good! I agree it would have slotted in nicely in that area of the album. A shame it didn't make it although I can see why it was left off if it had to be that some songs were to be omitted.

Last night I listened to Dannii's 1995 Sessions album for the first time in a very long time. I had already forgotten most of the songs, but I still love the opener "Free Your Love". It would have been a great lead single, but IMO there's not much other single material on the album, so I get why it wasn't released back then. Dannii's other 90's albums are stronger.

Posted by: Liam.k. 20th April 2020, 04:48 PM

I've just been listening to Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation album and the outro to 'Come Back to Me' sounded very familiar... turns out it was 'Loving Days':

I know Kylie references 'The Pleasure Principle' in 'Secret (Take You Home)' on this album and she's sampled Janet in the past with 'Too Much of a Good Thing', so it's not surprising to see Janet's influence, but I can't seem to find any credit to her in regards to 'Loving Days'.

Posted by: SamJudd 21st April 2020, 09:05 PM

I've made my own little (EP) of Fever (B-Sides), which is what Kylie songs I'm listening to at the moment =

1. Rendezvous At Sunset
2. Boy
3. Tightrope
4. Good Like That
5. Never Spoken
6. Harmony
7. Baby
8. Whenever You Feel Like It (I know this wasn't a B-Side, but it was on the special edition re-release & included it to add to the numbers)

'Good Like That' & 'Tightrope' are my faves here & should have made the album over 'Give It To Me'. In-fact all of these are amazing, although 'WYFLI' not quite up to par with the rest, however this is still a pretty solid list of songs.

Giving the ‘Boombox’ remix album a stream - absolutely love that we got this set of remixes as an album even though most people don’t care much for it laugh.gif

It’s my perfect pre-going out album too

I don't really return to the album as a whole but there is a handful of remixes there that I love: 'Boombox', 'Can't Get Blue Monday Out of My Head', 'Come Into My World', 'Your Disco Needs You' and 'Slow'.

Another remix from Noughties I like is the Tom Middleton mix of 'Chocolate', it's essentially a dub but the production is magical. Annoying it is incorrectly listed as 'City Games' on Spotify!

I usually hate remix albums - they always seem a bit of a pointless cash in tbh like the one Deconstruction/BMG done which featured the Impossible Princess tracks (Although I think it was more of a way of getting out of their deal with Kylie more than anything due to contractual clauses) But I think ‘Boombox’ works really well as a project.

Ya I'm not a remix fan and especially remix albums, I only buy the albums for the collection and listen to them about once.

Was playing I should be so lucky live on my mixed cd, I just love the energy in it live, it was the showgirl version I have had one.

All the mania around PP has led me to having a real deep dive into the back catalogue - I mean I listen to Kylie daily anyway but I’ve gone back to the start and inbetween listening to PP have been streaming the albums from the first one onwards.

Such a lifetime of memories associated to so many of them wub.gif

Ive literally only been playing padam padam purely trying to give it as much help as i can, generally i always have a bit of Kylie on at some point but im padamed out at the moment throwing my support behind it.

Same, we have to try, but after midnight only purchases will count, so my username will need a change…
