You know those “water-cooler” type shows where nearly everyone talks about at home, in the office, in the car, on the bus, on the train and obviously online. I was just wondering if there’s any critically acclaimed, highly rated and massively hyped TV shows where you’ve never even seen a single episode of before and why? These are a few of mine:
Game of Thrones
Breaking Bad
The Sopranos
Orange Is the New Black
ER
There are plenty of others, but these are the obvious shows I can think of right now. Comedy is favourite genre by a mile, but I also enjoy drama/crime type shows, so I feel like I would like these shows if I gave them a shot. It’s finding the time and commitment of course.
Any thoughts/recommendations?

Queer Eye, This Is Us, Everybody Loves Raymond, 2 and a Half Men, Sopranos*, Lost**, 3rd Rock From The Sun, The Walking Dead, X Files, Charmed, The West Wing, Smallville, Game of Thrones, ER.
Some are bigger American TV Shows.
*Sopranos: I've tried. I couldn't.
**Lost: Just starting Season 1 now. We will see.

The Sopranos and Fraiser are probably the two big ones that I can think of. And maybe the US Office too.
I think The Sopranos would be really up my street but I know the ending and watching it now.. I've heard people say while it's great, it does feel very dated.

The Sopranos
The Wire
Rick & Morty
The Twilight Zone
The X Files
Firefly
I have the latter three on DVD, I just need to find a time to watch them! I'll admit I'm not too good with huge, long running shows even if they're my sort of thing just because there are SO MANY episodes and some are more hit and miss than others so it's a question of if it's good enough to devote time to. I tend to like shorter shows that never lose their quality, I guess that's why Breaking Bad and Avatar: The Last Airbender were great watches and I couldn't make it through The Walking Dead oops.

This is a bit tough because there are some programmes that I've seen clips of on other programmes such as Gogglebox but I haven't watched a full episode of. When you say "Massive TV shows you’ve never seen before?" do you mean literally not seeing a single clip of it?
I can make a list with further clarification.

Frasier is fab, I did a rewatch about 8 years ago so might try again before the reboot. It’s definitely got a few issues when looked at from 2021 (Roz being endlessly $l*t shamed, Nils being quite uncomfortably into Daphne etc) but well worth it.
I’m actually watching the US Office for the first time now and it’s actually kind of shit (at time of writing I’m on S03E09).
In terms of my own shows the following are the biggest gaps I think:
Breaking Bad (tried and hated it)
The Walking Dead (ditto above)
The Wire
The Sopranos
The West Wing (I’ve seen most of S7 as it aired when I first got into TV)
I’ve tried most of the US sitcoms but most of them are ATROCIOUS, especially Chuck Lorre shows (the only good one I’ve seen is Cybill and that’s largely down to Christine Baranski).

Frasier is one of the best sitcoms ever - it’s almost as good as Seinfeld!

Seeing The Sopranos mentioned so much in this thread is cool, as I mentioned in the other thread, I'm watching it for the first time now. It feels like it has aged well what with the focus on mental health, and all the character interactions are really fun to watch, particularly Tony being this personification of toxic masculinity.
The Wire is the other big one for me. Lots of this sort of modern Americana, which I do actually really like seeing in general, so maybe Mad Men too. Peaky Blinders seems like one on the British side. Line Of Duty too. Beyond that, many British shows and American sitcoms would be stuff I would never watch anyway - but do include things like Seinfeld and Frasier on that list.
As far as sci-fi goes, because I tend to specialise there: X Files, Twillight Zone, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica (new one, I actually have seen some of the long-forgotten original), The Expanse from recent apparent good ones.
From anime, really famous anime I've never seen would be Naruto, Demon Slayer, Seven Deadly Sins, Haikyuu... Don't really have too many gaps there anymore.

Often with older shows like Star Trek and The Twilight Zone the shows were entirely episodic and made with production companies who cared more about getting an episode out every week than necessarily consistent quality, so to get the best experience you can, and perhaps should, not watch every episode, just talk to those who know the shows and only plan to watch the better episodes at first. That might make it seem less daunting.
(for example, I know Star Trek very well, so I've made this sort of thing, episodes to skip, before, for the most extreme example, I generally recommend watching only about 5/25 of the episodes of the first season of The Next Generation and most of those are only ones that are relevant because a guest star comes back in a later episode)

I just watched Battlestar Galactica & tbh it was both a great and also kind of too real show for quarantine.
(The premise being that the world has been destroyed and the survivors have to live in cramped conditions with the distant hope of finding somewhere they can live normal lives again
)

I'm sure there's more but these are the ones that came to mind earlier. When I saw this thread Line Of Duty in particular was one that really sprung to mind as I haven't watched a full episode of it but I've seen clips of it being reviewed on Gogglebox. In fact everything I've seen from Line Of Duty has been through Gogglebox
, people absolutely LOVE it though.

Obviously, I would highly recommend it.
The first couple of seasons are a bit slow at times (the dialogue is still great though), but seasons 3-8 is some of the finest comedy you’ll ever see!

Completely agree with this! The Sopranos has aged incredibly well and it's one of the most damning reports of the pressures of masculinity, the family and mental health more generally.
For me it is easily one of the greatest shows ever made and I'm shocked so many haven't seen it. Get on it people!

Frasier (my plan was to watch this after I finished Cheers, however I’m on season 7-8 of Cheers and it is a slog to get through)
Lost (I watched first two eps and couldn’t get into it)

Obviously I’m only listing ones that I think I’d like and watch or have tried to watch

X-Files is one of my favourite shows of all time but might be a bit dated watching it 25 years later!

)Same here (though it was my 4th time watching it) and it brought a new dynamic to it. Quite why they have decided to re-reboot it is beyond me because it is pretty much perfect as is.

Biggest examples for me would probably be Breaking Bad and Game Of Thrones. I also haven't seen any of the "Got Talent" franchise beyond the occasional clips on YouTube/Gogglebox here and there
