BuzzJack Music Forum _ News and Politics _ Tesco and Unilever go to war

Tesco have started to 'run out' of many big brand names after a dispute with multinational conglomerate Unilever. Unilever make products as diverse as Pot Noodles, Ben & Jerry's, Marmite, Surf and Comfort. Sources are indicating to the FT that Tesco are physically pulling the items from their shelves rather than allowing stock to run out. (no perishables so this is possible)

Rumours are that the dispute relates to Unilever demanding a 10% increase in prices across the board due to the Brexit induced Sterling plunge. Indications are that this is not the only supermarket that is in dispute with Unilever and Sainsbury's are expecting food prices across the board to start rising as supermarkets cannot absorb the cost.

Aye this is only the beginning. Guess the issue is, nobody wants to pass the extra cost on to the consumer, but it's going to happen across all the major supermarkets as everything is costing so much more to buy. Most big companies will have budgeted this year for the currency fall happening, so it must be much worse than I thought if stuff is already got to the point where items are not going on shelves.. Once the big food manufacturing factor in 2017 targets, it's going to be carnage. Of course, this isn't the fault of Brexit at all..

Aw I hope little things like this make the public realise how retarded they were to vote leave.

Two massive corporate conglomerates playing a massive game of chicken (Pot Noodle) with each other until one of them blinks, probably costing them millions of pounds in the process. Jeremy Corbyn, and other "enemies of capitalism" must be thrilled.

Brexiters were absolutely retardes breathing in the scummy headlines of Murdoch press. They will see how retarded their decision was soon enough then.

The dispute has now been resolved. Unilever gave a little way so I would imagine that we will see prices rise but not quite by 10%.

Asda have publicly confirmed they have successfully agreed a deal with Unilever also.

It seems as if Tesco & Unilever have settled http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37650234. Although I doubt it'll be the last price dispute - I heard on BBC Radio Ulster earlier on that Unilever have imposed a 10% price increase on SuperValu, one of our biggest local supermarket chains, so they are going to have issues, although given that they don't have the same clout as Tesco, it could end up being terminal for them.
