All Saints to break the iTunes top-40 with the album release please! (and ofc go as high as possible in the albums but that's for another thread...)

Posted by: Doctor Blind 7th April 2016, 11:29 PM

Sia for #1 please, loving the mathematically perfect: 16-8-4-{2} run to the top and it would be the third consecutive CLIMBER to #1, which hasn't happened since 2011 (LMFAO, Bruno Mars, Pitbull - who climbed from 2, 2 and 4 respectively).

Posted by: mr_pmt 7th April 2016, 11:35 PM

All Saints seem to be consistently climbing, they're in dark green and #45 now! If it can keep going like this and they can at least chart I'll be thrilled.

Years & Years 'Desire' has been reduced to 59p which I think is their best chance of re-entering the top 40. I'm surprised by how much it's under-performed considering The Voice (Which provided Zara and Birday with over a 10% increase) and a live perormance on Alan Carr.

39. Years & Years Feat Tove Lo - Desire [59p]
112. Years & Years - Desire [99p]

#241. Katy B & Chris Lorenzo - "I Wanna Be"

Video released a couple days ago and seems to be climbing a bit. Hope it can get good support and become a hit!

slow start for William smile.gif
340 will.i.am Boys & Girls (feat. Pia Mia)

more surprised at Rick Astley being #37

and New Romantics #46
but I read New Romantics is doing so well cos it was not on the original album releases but only on the deluxe version??

140 NEW will.i.am - Boys & Girls (feat. Pia Mia)

Posted by: Bjork 8th April 2016, 08:10 AM

a bunch of new remixes x Cheap Thrills has just been released today (both on itunes and Spotify), hope that helps... theres also a Spotify live session but doesn't seem to include Cheap Thrills, if I'm looking at the right thing...

Posted by: mdh 8th April 2016, 08:24 AM

Those remixes should secure the #1 spot, then. I don't know why singers don't just release 30 versions of their songs, surely that'd give them a bigger chance of number one laugh.gif

They have so few streams though that they weren't even apparently in the midweek top 200 so cracking the official chart looks like a huge long shot.

On the plus side the album looks like it will be very well received. They'll surely be the first ever reformed girl group (after a substantial break at least) to have a studio album of new material go top five? (Of all of the reformed bands over the past decade I think only Take That and Boyzone have done better with new material).

Posted by: Bjork 8th April 2016, 08:46 AM

reformed James went to #2 the other day, Suede or Garbage have done well too

does anyone know if they're gonna push Ellie Goulding's Here to Us (from the Girls soundtrack)?? it's a great song, not on the album, so could be a nice option

Drake still isn't on Spotify though, which could be a major factor here.

#24 Rick Astley - Keep singing!!

Good start, I'd expect it to be top 20 by the next update on Kworb.

If Drake does put it on Spotify, then he could really give the others a run for their money. iTuneswise it's reminding me of 'Get Lucky' on a smaller scale, in that it appeared out of nowhere and shot to #1 and people assumed it'd just fall away but it shows no signs of stopping (not that I'm suggesting this will be anywhere near as big)

He's famous for his hit single, Never Gonna Give You Up and Eighties singer Rick Astley has announced he's making a comeback - 23 years after his retirement.
The 50-year-old appeared on Lorraine on Thursday and played a sneak peek of his new record, Keep Singing to Amanda Holden, who is currently filling in for Lorraine Kelly.
Rick told Amanda that he quit music at 27 despite his success because he became disillusioned with the industry.

The singer has taken a leaf out of Adele's book and called his new record 50, after hitting the milestone age in February - it is set to be released on June 17.

It's their fault that DJ Fresh has missed out on so many top 40 hits ie. "Flashlight", "How Love Begins"

Posted by: danG 8th April 2016, 12:28 PM

i doubt those DJ Fresh flops would've charted any higher under an OA/OS release tbh.

It's a shame that labels still feel like that in the current climate really. When everyone else is going OA/OS, holding back feels like cheating to get a high chart position now (it didn't feel that way when everyone did it because it was a level playing field, in my opinion at least!). Sigala is an established name now and he would get support instantly for an OA/OS release anyway I'm sure.

Posted by: timjimlee 8th April 2016, 12:41 PM

I think there is a chance "The Voice" Winner's Single may get to the top of iTunes chart on Sunday or Monday if last year's performance is anything to go by.
The viewing figures have gone down in this Fifth Series but there are still a few good singers in the Final and it would be quite a story if Kevin Simm wins.

Last year's winner had the advantage of the regional sales (number 1 in Scotland) but if they get the Song right it could do well in what is a relatively low-Sales week.

Posted by: danG 8th April 2016, 12:57 PM

Even if it does top the iTunes chart it's bound to do worse in the chart than Stevie McCrorie simply due to streaming having a larger proportion of chart sales now and the winner obviously won't have good streaming.

All 4 of The Voice finalists will be releasing their version of the single, which is an original this year! A couple might make the top 40 on itunes, the winner maybe like #23 officially? Streaming will obviously hurt it as has been said.

No its just the winner who will have their version released according to the BBC. But it will be released to download and stream shortly after the final for the first time. Presumably we had to wait until midnight before due to the chart week starting on the Sunday

Drake sold 9930 yesterday. That's #1 with a massive lead on iTunes, and even that looks like it won't be enough to compensate for the lack of streaming which should ensure that either Mike Posner or Sia takes the #1 next week.

Sales R dead.

Posted by: LeeWallace 9th April 2016, 04:53 AM

I'd love if 'Cheap Thrills' managed to go to number one in the official charts! It doesn't sound anything like a song that would go to #1 especially considering the performance of 'Alive' which had far more promotion behind it. I've noticed that music stations are playing the lyric video over the official video laugh.gif

I think its safe to say that “No” looks like becoming a huge hit. It will take time, but-> 59-48-42-30-23 is a pretty strong start.

Not really New seeing as there's been 2 updates for him already

Posted by: sammy01 9th April 2016, 09:38 PM

I'm team Kevin doing well, such a sweet guy and so under appreciated in Liberty X, total DILF these days too. Will give it a few streams as I'm sure it is the area he will struggle with when it comes to the chart.

Posted by: jase. 9th April 2016, 09:39 PM

Posted by: Scene 9th April 2016, 09:48 PM

I'm hoping that Kevin does well too. When Liberty X were around, I never really paid attention to the men since, like Hear'Say, the women were always the focus. But his performance of 'Chandelier' in the auditions really made me realise just how amazing his voice is. Also, the winner's single is actually pretty decent. The X Factor should take note. Anyway, hopefully AYGF does well.

When I heard the name of the Grand National winner the first thing that popped into my head was the Take That song. He will end up on Universal or one of their associated labels - Stevie from last year was signed to Decca.

Downloaded the song but can't see this doing much more than Stevie did last year (6-68-Out) although would love it to become a proper hit, hopefully they will follow it up quickly with another single.

Agree, sadly. Shame that BBC radio won't be able to push it properly, hopefully this is something that changes when the show moves to ITV.

Part of me thinks it could still live on longer than Louisa Johnson's 09-12-61-xx chart run, although two weeks in the T40 might be a stretch; let's hope not!

I've get what you mean, but we are now and it has no sense to talk about this every second week how it would have been if... I know you're not liking the chart anymore with the current rules (you've expressed your opinion many times) but you need to get over it slowly. One year past slowly since then.

It's hilarious. I've never known an act who get no boost on iTunes from performing on a big promotional slot, I mean 'Eyes Shut', 'Desire' and 'Shine' had no impact from any live television performances! I'm glad their label are on the ball with 59p because it helped 'Eyes Shut' dramatically.

I'm surprised "Levels" never managed it. It seemed to be one of those songs that didn't peak very high, but quite a few people knew of it. I really hope "Close" can eventually go top 40, it's soooo good.

Posted by: Bré 11th April 2016, 01:14 PM

Posted by: Joe. 11th April 2016, 01:19 PM

I'm a Jonas fan, but think 'Levels' was a very weak single. 'Close' really stands out (for the use of steal drums alone!) so I'm not surprised it's doing well at this early stage, for the use of steal drums alone. It's a really interesting sound for Nick, even though it sounds like more of a Tove Lo song. I can see it having success similar to Selena's slow jams.

He doesn't have a 50% lead, Sia is at about 56% and as of Thursday's mids, 46% of her sales were from streams (most likely over 50% with missing Spotify/Apple Music data added for Friday's chart). I expect Sia will get #1 unless Drake puts the song on Spotify this week.

97 ZAYN LIKE I WOULD

This is flopping a bit, right??

Both Drake songs are on Spotify UK now. Poor Sia.

Posted by: gooddelta 12th April 2016, 09:53 AM

Oop, sad for Sia but Drake is so far ahead on sales that it's obviously by far the most popular song around at the moment and she would only be getting the #1 by default.

Did Zayn scrap It's You as a single, or was that never supposed to be one? To my ears it's a far better and more musically interesting song than Like I Would.

I believe it never was. I agree it is better but it's a lot less commercial than 'Like I Would' is so I can see why it wasn't chosen, even if it may have been a better move for him as an artist.

No idea, but Like I Would is A list on Radio 1 now, so I'd say it's massively under-performing after the huge success of Pillowtalk. The single is indeed rather weak.

A shame, though I did think Sia getting a solo #1 hit didn't feel very 'realistic' (I know she has one with Titanium but that's a David Guetta song so that doesn't really apply here)

Anyway, is there an explanation for why this has somehow shot up the itunes chart-

It's on the trailer for the Gears of War 4 game. It also seems to be smashing worldwide at the moment somehow (and has been prior to this trailer coming out)...not the usual sort of song to take off globally but it does appear a metal band are finally set to have a global hit, though it's a ballad more than anything.

It is the sort of song a metal band would smash with as it's really accessible. And it being a cover might enforce some familiarity too. Lovely song though, I hope that isn't a flash-in-the-pan rise and it stays up like it's been doing in Australia.

It is, but that said, when was the last time a song like this smashed in the UK? It sounds like something that would have been an early 00s hit to me but we haven't had a song like this smashing in a rather long time here. I'm all for it happening to add some diversity to the chart.

You're very right there. Maybe I'm being presumptuous and/or hopeful but it could be the first of a few early 00s sounding type hits. If it takes off. We've been going through a region that's fairly 90s throwback over the past few years so soon we could go through a phase where more and more hits sound like they're reminiscing the early 00s.

You could be right, we already have this and the Meghan Trainor track, plus the ongoing presence of Sia and Craig David, and All Saints set for a top five album. It almost feels more like 2000 again as each day passes.

Metal isn't harsh unlistenable vocals, it's hallmarks are heavy rock instruments and amped up backing to create a generally loud song. Which I think this cover still embodies, even if it's quite slow. Metal ballads are definitely a thing and because they're often less intense than their upbeat counterparts they are the sort that become more popular. Although to be fair to your assessment of that, with bands like this, the lines are quite blurred between lighter forms of metal and hard rock.

I've only become aware of Disturbed in the last few months but they are definitely more towards either a System Of A Down or a Metallica type of metal normally than the Cradle Of Filth extremities I'm sure most people think of when they hear 'metal'. Still some musicality in there rather than just being macabre.

Yeah it's usually huge artists like Bieber or Rihanna that can go straight to #1 on iTunes and keep the lead all week. It's even more bizarre considering how poorly Summer Sixteen performed in the chart and this is essentially a follow-up to that.

It's a shame they won't go top 40 officially as their streaming is very poor

They probably will next week. It won't do a 5SOS/Kevin Simm/NHS Choir so theres no reason why it won't stick around.

Posted by: Bjork 14th April 2016, 04:25 PM

of course not this week, just climbed itunes yesterday,
but next week, I'm sure it will be top 40 if it keeps the momentum, if a song stays top 10 on itunes all week it can be top 40 without streams, but should also get streams once people start talking about it and theres buzz about the song

Just heard it, didn't even know about it. He's certainly getting around isn't he? Who knew Sean Paul was going to have three songs in the Top 40 in 2016?!

It's probably what I would have imagined in one of my very worst nightmares.

I so wish this was doing well right now, but it seems house songs are difficult to get into the top 40 now unless they feature a popular vocalist or are by a massive name.

It's a cover of a song from the 60s by Simon & Garfunkel. Have the Vines using 'The Sound Of Silence' already updated to the Disturbed version? laugh.gif

Posted by: PaulM1983 14th April 2016, 06:33 PM

It makes me a little sad that so many people don't know "The Sound of Silence" is a cover. It's a biased view as I love it so much but I feel like it's a song that everyone should know, and nobody else should get all the credit for laugh.gif

I don't dislike the Disturbed version though. It's not bad and I'll probably like it more the more I hear it. But the original is near perfect.

This performance of it from 2009 (45 years after they recorded it!!!) is EVERYTHING.

Nope, the top version is at 5!

Posted by: mdh 14th April 2016, 06:47 PM

Oh yeah ohmy.gif

Strange how this song in particular keeps stuttering and looking like its about to fall and then making a huge climb that seems hugely improbable by its form laugh.gif

Posted by: Iz~ 14th April 2016, 06:50 PM

It is the best reinterpretation cover I've heard in months. I'm normally very original-biased in that it's hard for me to like covers and the original song is wonderful in producing this but this cover is far more my sort of thing and the lead singer of Disturbed's voice just really elevates it for me. Seems fairly clear it is a cover to me (although I only learned that it was where 'hello darkness my old friend' came from when first listening to it).

Excellent to see it still climbing.

Have listened to it a few times now & absolutely loving it. Please become a huge UK hit!

Posted by: Bjork 14th April 2016, 07:00 PM

just checked wiki and looks like Disturbed had a top 40 hit in the UK in 2002, Prayer peaked at #31, they've also had a couple of top 75 songs and a couple of top 100s... two top 10 albums... far better in the US, five #1 albums!!!!

Certainly not as massive as House was throughout 2014 (especially the first half of the year). Seems to have moved from Disclosure style house to Kygo style house now...

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's one of the most famous songs ever made, I could probably name 100 songs which are more famous. I don't think a casual music fan would know the original tbh, especially a young one.

Posted by: Lee_J11 14th April 2016, 08:52 PM

Well in the last kworb update its shot up to approximately 0.41 from 0.29 mellow.gif

Should be #3 by tomorrow!

Personally I'm surprised people can post on a music forum and not at least have heard of The Sound of Silence, and I'd count as a "young one". Still, that's just me.

But it's a good cover so yay?

Posted by: Steve201 14th April 2016, 09:32 PM

I don't think it's anything to do with age personally more type of music your interested and exposed to - love listening back to old charts and spotting classics or songs that would become classics - I watch TOTPs 1981 each week for instance. In saying that there are prob loadsa really famous songs I don't know the origin of!

Sound Of Silence will get to #1 eventually I think. It doesn't sound good to me but whoopty doo at this point.
