A rocketing surge to the top this week sees Nelly Furtado of all people taking a #1 this year in a meteoric 28-place rise. Magic is Furtado’s third charter and, surprisingly, second top 2 from latest album The Ride, her first release since 2012, that sees her moving back towards her first album’s sound with some added rockier and funk elements. The theme of the song really jammed with me the last few weeks and pips The XX’s I Dare You to the post; they do however move up to #2 this week to gain respectively a third top 2 from their latest release. HAIM and Lady Antebellum also gain top 5 hits this week, while Veela and Stefflon Don move into the top 10 with their respective solo debut hits for me.

This week’s highest new entry goes, surprisingly, to Lady Gaga, whose Hey Girl with Florence (of the Machine) has been hovering just outside the top 40 for a few weeks now as I’ve lately rediscovered Joanne. Outside of my hopes for what Gaga could bring, it’s not a bad wee album. Certainly better than Katy Perry’s latest effort. George Maple’s Hero is not far behind, and Marlene also gains a second top 20 as her track with Giorgio Moroder bursts into the top 20 in its first charting week. Other new entries come from Fergie, The Corrs, LissA, Tegan and Sara, Maroon 5, and Beth Ditto, with Perry’s Swish Swish also re-entering. Notably this week, DJ-singer duo Rebecca & Fiona gain a double bubble, with recent tracks occupying consecutive places on the chart. And on the subject of DJs, DJ Khaled’s Wild Thoughts finally falls out of the top 40 this week after a record-breaking twelve week run consecutively. Wild, wild, wild indeed.

All new entries will be getting individual video links and a bit of commentary later on in the week, so check back and that’ll save you having to search them out individually, I’ll update the thread title accordingly when those are done. Last week's are also now up after a longer delay than usual - I'm the first to say I'm not perfect!
For now, the top 40 for this third week of September 2017:
