On the 19th of this month, the girls celebrated an unprecedented pop group/girl group milestone... they reached 9 years together as a group. No break up. No member change. No "hiatus" in between. 9 straight years of success.
What have been your favourite moments? Either personally (going to see them live etc) and/or just being in awe of them as performers or doing something.
---
I will also be using this thread to host a 9 Years Of Hits, listening session this Sunday, 23rd August @ 8pm to celebrate the girls achievements and just to get a good vibe going in this thread/to keep the celebration going!
I will be using this Spotify playlist (if anyone uses Apple Music and could create a playlist like this one, that'd be thoroughly appreciated!)
---
Hope to see you there, but in the meantime, use this thread to celebrate their 9 years together
Great idea!
Looking forward to this
What I find seriously interesting about Little Mix is that they peaked commercially with their fourth album. The fact they came from a reality show where typically most contestants have one huge debut album and then it's downhill (Leona, JLS, Alexandra etc) makes it even more impressive.
Like...they were five years into their career and already had a ton of hits before Shout Out To My Ex even happened. From October 2016 to Reggeaton Lento the following autumn they were HUGE and I have such fond memories of blasting all their singles and hearing them on the radio/tv channels everywhere for that year.
Obviously they're still having hits and doing well but man, the Glory Days era was just amazing to watch. They even performed at One Love Manchester with Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry that's how f***ing big of a deal they were in the UK.
The listening session is happening tonight! Hope to see some members join in 😁
Also, some more stories on Little Mix and their impact on you/pop culture are very welcomed.
I'll write some when I get time.
I'll try to join this tonight.
I think their most iconic moment for me would have to be when they performed Touch on The X Factor. It was just a perfect performance from the amazing vocals at the start to the epic dance break. Hopefully we will get to see more great performances like this when The Search starts.
There’s a football match tonight at 8pm Jonjo
Oh no! Aha. Gahhh. I didn't realise football was so popular on Buzzjack, ngl
I think we'll still continue with it though I can host another mid-week if there was more interest aha
30-ish minutes until the listen through!
01. CANNONBALL | UK PEAK: #01 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 1-2-6-15-30-49-68 > 7 Weeks
Starting off with their coronation winner's single.
This is genuinely one of my favourite X Factor winning singles. Top 5 at least I imagine. It's sweet!
02. WINGS | UK PEAK: #01 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 1-4-4-7-11-14-17-21-26-31-41-39-34-44-55-71-71-36-53 > 19 Weeks
The song that really kicked their careers off! I love how proud the girls are of this song. Every time I hear it, I think it sounds dated, but I also think it sounds pretty fresh! Lol.
It's a bop, they've just out done it several times since!
Wings is great and worked really well as their first single. It's great how they still love performing it live also.
I remember watching them perform this at Manchester One Love, they absolute smashed it! My favourite ever performance of Wings
03. DNA | UK PEAK: #03 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 3-12-16-24-30-43-31-43-65 > 9 Weeks
What a SONG!
Loved it the first listen and it's only gotten better ever since, for me. An underrated gem imo!
04. CHANGE YOUR LIFE | UK PEAK: #12 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 36-31-12-14-19-27-35-50-68 > 9 Weeks
I have a soft spot for this song. It reminds me of a very early 'Nothing Else Matters'/'The Cure'. It gives me that stadium ready pop anthem.
I think Perrie's ad-libs on the chorus should all have been saved for the final chorus though!
Change Your Life is a cute lil song... don't listen to this one that much though
Change Your Life still sounding great!
05. HOW YA DOIN'? (FEAT. MISSY ELLIOTT) | UK PEAK: #16 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 57-23-16-19-17-25-34-53 > 8 Weeks
Its the year 2048... How Ya Doing IS STILL NOT CERTIFIED SILVER
A song I always hated because I feel that it took the spot of being a single over something more deserving like 'Red Planet', 'Madhouse', 'Always Be Together' (although that song after CYL woulda been a disaster - too similar). But the single mix is so much better and packs a punch that the album version lacks for me.
06. MOVE | UK PEAK: #03 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 3-5-8-12-13-17-19-14-21-29-32-36-44-48-58 > 15 Weeks
I love this song so much, but I always forget just HOW MUCH until I hear it. What a song. Such a risk for them and I'm extremely happy it paid off for them!
Move is that bitch!!.. a shame they seem to not perform it as much any more
Iknowthatchuwannabutyoucantcozyougottastayinthecornerwhenthetruthisthatyouwantto
move
SO MOVE
07. LITTLE ME | UK PEAK: #14 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 51-39-19-20-14-16-21-37-41-60 > 10 Weeks
Still don't rate this song. It's definitely better live though. The final chorus goes OFF. I still think they should've just had the video burst into colours with CGI grass and flowers bursting through as Leigh hits her note!
Feel like this was the wrong choice for 2nd single, i don't really remember it being released, there was no buzz about it
08. WORD UP! | UK PEAK: #06 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 6-18-43-60 > 4 Weeks
That Word Up chart run is tragic, I do love this cover though
I like this in a cheap, throwaway, fun cover kinda way.
The video is SO good.
I'm just annoyed it took the spot of being a single to something that could have benefitted the album more.
01. Move
02. Towers
03. A Different Beat (Sport Relief)
04. Salute
That's how I would have handled this campaign.
09. SALUTE | UK PEAK: #06 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 74-51-35-40-24-6-14-24-33-42-54-61-70 > 13 Weeks
Little Me, Move and Word Up never really did it for me as singles. Salute on the other hand is deffo one of my faves.
OMG this single mix is a MESS :') I should have just used the album version lmao!
WHAT A SONG THOUGH.
So anthemic and empowering! Always incredible on tour too!
I'm so happy this was a big success for them! I was so worried about it coming after Word Up!
imagine having the salute album + releasing 'little me' + doing a cover of 'word up' when you have the likes of 'competition' 'towers' + 'a different beat' sitting right there!
10. BLACK MAGIC | UK PEAK: #01 (3 Weeks)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 1-1-1-3-4-6-10-11-13-15-20-23-29-31-36-37-34-33-46-63-64-73-65-62-30-51-68-69-65-71-70-70-60-52-58-66-70-62 > 38 Weeks
The BGT performance really turned things around for them I think, remember watching with my family and we were all blown away!
I love what they did with this for the LM5 tour, the choreography was fire!
To me Salute was the end of phase 1 of Little Mix
The song that I (and many other Mixers) will be TRULY grateful for.
A massive pop banger and the video... Incredible.
THE BRITS PERFORMANCE
11. LOVE ME LIKE YOU | UK PEAK: #11 (1 Weeks)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 21-30-32-32-28-19-13-13-18-19-22-22-20-11-23-36-50-57-66 > 19 Weeks
The song that changed everything for them
L-O-V-E this song
I love a good retro-inspired pop girl band bop!
The UK X Factor performance of this
That pesky number 11! Love this
12. SECRET LOVE SONG (FEAT. JASON DERULO) | UK PEAK: #06 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 66-34-16-12-11-7-6-8-12-16-20-22-22-25-28-29-39-51-60-64-68-67-75 > 23 Weeks
For a long time, this was my favourite Little Mix song. I still absolutely ADORE it and it's in the top 5 of my favourite songs for them. A fantastic, soaring, power pop ballad! Stunning!
13. HAIR (FEAT. SEAN PAUL) | UK PEAK: #11 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 31-19-14-11-12-13-15-18-23-29-31-33-52-63-59-64-69-73 > 18 Weeks
much prefer Secret Love Song part 2
Another song that I wasn't best pleased at being announced a single, but fortunately the single remix, yet again, elevates this so much for me and the video certainly helped too! Such a fun and cheeky song! The video is so good. Clearly done on a budget, but it was done so SO well.
Secret Love Song is the best single from this era for me, with Love Me Like You a close second. (Mainly cause I spam the Christmas remix in December ).
Black Magic and Hair are on the slightly too cheesy pop side for my taste
I'd have preferred Lightning to have been given a release, but I can't ignore this infectious bop when it's on!
14. SHOUT OUT TO MY EX | UK PEAK: #01 (3 Weeks)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 1-1-1-2-3-3-5-7-10-13-6-9-16-19-19-27-33-35-36-32-51-57-75R(3) > 23 Weeks
Another incredibly infectious, joyous pop banger!
The chorus really GOES OFF!
I loved the release strategy of this, just because it showed how much faith Syco had in them to be able to release on a Sunday evening after being given a prime time performance slot on the X Factor. The performance was incredible too (obvz lol x)
The BRITs performance though
15. TOUCH | UK PEAK: #04 (6 N/C Weeks)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 63-23R(3)-4-4-4-5-6-4-4-4-8-10-12-29-28-41-38-30-25-30-35-39-42-48-55-55-62-64-68-73 > 30 Weeks
THOSE WEEKS AT #4
What an almighty club banger. This was the first song of theirs where I knew "the locals" would lap them up in the clubs etc.. and they'd be "cool" to like.
Still goes OFF!
The X Factor performance tho...
The SOTME Brits performance was iconic! I loved the blonde looks.
Touch is still a banger four years on!
I low-key love the video too...
Oops baby I love you x
16. NO MORE SAD SONGS (FEAT. MACHINE GUN KELLY) | UK PEAK: #15 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 39-64-51R(2)-17-16-16-15-20-27-29-32-32-37-36-54-61-71 > 17 Weeks
Touch and No More Sad Songs, two of their best- the Glory Days single run was incredible
I remember really not being a fan of NMSS when it first came out and it took me a month or so to appreciate what a bop it truly is and its probably in my top 3 songs by them now
That peak for their best ever song really hurts! But it's ok, the total sales for this are big enough for us to overlook that!
WHAT A SONG. Just perfect.
Glory Days really does have one of the greatest singles runs of ALL TIME, right? Bop after Bop after Bop after Bop after Bop.
(But yeah this is my favourite LM song. I love either version, but I tend to listen to the single mix more coz I love MGKs rap)
17. POWER (FEAT. STORMZY) | UK PEAK: #06 (2 Weeks)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 27-35-13-10-9-8-10-8-6-6-9-11-23-27-37-44-45-51-57-71-70-72-68R(10)-71 > 24 Weeks
Just imagine if the plan to perform this on BGT actually went ahead... but still 2x plat is amazing!
Yeah, Glory Days is easily my favourite run of singles from an album. All the singles are so different yet somehow seem to work do well together.
I love how powerful the vocals are in Power
What an empowering and anthemic smash!
I'm still gutted about the cancelled BGT performance, but it was for a worthwhile cause!
Stormzy's rap absolutely SLAPS. "You can be a woman and a boss and wear the trousers at the same time" ICONIC.
18. REGGAETON LENTO (W/ CNCO) | UK PEAK: #05 (3 N/C Weeks)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 5-7-6-7-6-5-6-7-5-9-12-9-16-18-19-35-51-57-51-32-51-61-74-71 > 24 Weeks
A Summery anthem. This is an incredible summer song. When the sun is shining, this really pops harder.
I like that it was the girls remixing another artist's track for a change
The video is hella disappointing though
Imagine a dance off between the groups
THE X FACTOR PERFORMANCE THO...
19. ONLY YOU (x CHEAT CODES) | UK PEAK: #13 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 32-40-28-19-16-14-17-14-13-40-39-49-53-65 > 14 Weeks
This song, for me, is their most underrated. For SURE.
The drop is huge and in a live setting... WOW.
A banger.
My favourite Little Mix song
Would love for them to do more dance style tracks, I think their vocals suit it really well.
LMAO. Guess what week this hit ACR... [1]
20. WOMAN LIKE ME (FEAT. NICKI MINAJ) | UK PEAK: #02 (3 N/C Weeks)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 5-6-2-3-3-2-2-7-8-41-60-18-28-40-50-62 > 16 Weeks
This song slaps SO HARD.
The video is their best video too. I do wish we had more of the chair-ography though
THE BRITS PERFORMANCE THO...
LMAO. Guess what week this hit ACR... [2]
(Combined with all the Christmas songs climbing above them that week too )
21. THINK ABOUT US (FEAT. TY DOLLA $IGN) | UK PEAK: #22 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 34-43-49-26-23-22-29-31-35-44-48-44-48-73 > 14 Weeks
I actually really like Think About Us, the verses smash! Such a shame it didn't manage the top 20
I adore Woman Like Me and Think About Us, I know they get a lot of hate for some reason, but I go back to these two A LOT, the Brits are coming performance of TAU is everything
I honestly don't mind that this was a single... however, they really should have just stuck with 'Strip' as it charted in the album week... and focussed on that and then maybe move onto this.
The label politics really screwed up what could have been a great singles campaign. WLM > Strip > Wasabi > TAU
But I think I would've gone:
01. WLM
02. The Cure > Winter - Album sales <
03. Strip
04. Wasabi > Pushed as it gained traction on Tik Tok <
22. BOUNCE BACK | UK PEAK: #10 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 10-17-25-27-34-41-39-42-47 > 9 Weeks
Idc... this bops :')
It's trash, but so fun!
EDIT: Oh wait I said WLM was their best video... I lied :') This is.
I never disliked Bounce Back but there was definitely something missing to make it a big hit. I think maybe the sample overshadowed them in a way.
23. ONE I'VE BEEN MISSING | UK PEAK: #59 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 59 > 1 Week
I try not to think about how much Wasabi would have smashed as a single, the potential it had
I'm glad they finally made a Christmas track, although kinda wished it was a little more upbeat.
Hopefully it'll get some playlisting this year and possibly chart.
LMAO.
I love this. It's so cute. Especially now that I've gotten over the fact that it wasn't quite the 'Santa Tell Me'/'All I Want For Christmas Is You'/'Underneath The Tree'/'One More Sleep' uptempo type smash it should've been.
24. BREAK UP SONG | UK PEAK: #09 (1 Week)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 9-19-20-18-20-18-15-18-18-22-21-24-27-31-38-75 > 16 Weeks
This might already be my fave lead single from them. Maybe just due to the amazingness of the final chorus.
What a return to form this song is. Absolutely fantastic! I'm so, SO happy it went on to be a huge hit for them. The 80's synth pop sound really suits their style! I feel like this is 'Nothing Else Matters'/'The Cure' but more 80's.
Incredibly fun, joyous and I can't help but mimic the Tik Tok dance *eyes*
Also, I still don't get what's so bad about the video??
It's SO well done!
25. HOLIDAY | UK PEAK: #17 (2 N/C Weeks)
FULL TOP 75 UK CHART RUN: 17-30-19-17 > 4 Weeks (Still Charting)
i really hope this can re peak once the video comes outs, top 15 is all i want!
...and we're BANG up to date with this bop!
That bassline during Jade's pre-chorus takes my breath away every TIME. Gorgeous!
Excited for the video and I'm very grateful we've received a performance of this!
A summer bop! I wasn't 100% sure about this at first but its grown on me massively over the weeks. Although it'd be nice to see a video at some point
Ngl tho... the weather really does, GENUINELY, emphasise this song so much more. It's so, SO lush during a warm sunny day
Thank you for taking part and commenting along with me! I've really enjoyed it and it's been such a pleasure to celebrate their 9 years as a group, doing something like this!
Thanks for hosting its been fun!
It's not a problem It's been a lot of fun and it's been nice interacting with you both!
Wow I did not remember Woman Like Me falling from #8 out of the top 40.
I enjoyed reading through this thread and seeing the whole journey! They've done remarkably well to last the distance for a girl band.
Also they really "bounced back" quite well with 'Break Up Song' didn't they?
