England bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out of the third Test against India because of a shoulder injury.

The 31-year-old jarred his right shoulder while fielding on the fourth day of the second Test at Lord's.

No replacement has been called up for the Test at Headingley, with Saqib Mahmood and Craig Overton already in the squad as back-up seamers.

"It is frustrating for Mark and for us as a side - he gives us a real point of difference," captain Joe Root said.

Kent sealed a clean sweep for the South Group sides in the T20 Blast quarter-finals as they booked a place at Finals Day for the first time in 12 years.

Sam Billings led from the front with 56 as Kent beat Birmingham Bears to join Somerset, Hampshire and Sussex in the last four.

Chasing 162-7 under the Canterbury lights, the Bears buckled from 36-1 to 55-6 to lose by 21 runs on 141.

Kent, 2007 winners, face 2009 victors Sussex at Edgbaston on 18 September.

Hampshire and Somerset will meet in the other semi-final - a repeat of the 2010 final.

Joe Root said he was "proud" to set a new record for the number of Test wins as England captain, and paid tribute to the players that helped him do it.

England's innings defeat of India in the third Test on his home ground of Headingley was Root's 27th as skipper, going past the 26 of Michael Vaughan.

"You don't do that on your own as a captain," said Root.

"You're the one making the decisions, but they are the ones putting in big performances."

That was a dominant performance by England. It will be interesting to see if India can fight back in the next test match.

A really bizarre match with England dominating the first two days, India coming back well on the third day only to blow it on the fourth.

England captain Joe Root has returned to the top of the ICC's Test batting rankings for the first time in six years.

The 30-year-old has scored centuries in the last three Tests against India, his 507 runs in the three matches coming at an average of 126.75.

He replaces New Zealand's Kane Williamson, who drops to second.

QUOTE(Mack. @ Aug 20 2021, 11:57 PM) *
Southern Brave thrashed Trent Rockets by seven wickets in the men's Hundred eliminator to set up a final against Birmingham Phoenix at Lord's on Saturday.

In a faultless bowling performance, the Brave's fearsome attack bowled the Rockets out for 96 in just 91 balls.

And to complete this, the Hundred winners were: -

Oval Invincibles Women

Southern Brave Men.

It seems that the momentum towards the end of the campaign and having to go through the Eliminator was beneficial as opposed to going straight through to the final.

Also an all South finals day at Edgbaston in the T20 blast. I was surprised at the Hampshire result against Notts Outlaws.

The England women's game is on tonight.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault after colliding with England cricketer Jonny Bairstow on the second day of the fourth Test at the Kia Oval.

The man entered the field of play in the morning session and mimicked bowling a delivery before making contact with the England batsman.

He was removed from the field by stewards, then arrested and was in custody on Friday afternoon.

The man, know as Jarvo, entered the field during the previous two Tests.

United States batsman Jaskaran Malhotra has become the ninth man to hit six sixes in an over in top-level cricket.

The 31-year-old hit the runs off Papua New Guinea pace bowler Gaudi Toka in a one-day international in Oman.

He is just the second player to achieve the feat in ODI cricket after South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs in 2007.

It also ensured Malhotra, whose previous highest score was 18, finished unbeaten on 173 - the highest one-day score by a US batsman.

You've got to admire Darren Stevens still going at the age of 45 and today he's helped Kent win the T20 Blast final.

Denly and Stevens both played against Gloucestershire in the T20 final back in 2007:

Kent Spitfires proved too strong for Somerset under the Edgbaston lights as they won the 2021 T20 Blast by 25 runs.

After beating Sussex by 21 runs in the semi-final, Kent put in an incredible fielding display in the final as they beat 2005 winners - and now four-times beaten finalists - Somerset.

Jordan Cox, with 58 not out off 28 balls, and England's Zak Crawley (41) were the stars in Kent's 167-7.

Guess we'll get an announcement today on the Pakistan tour

Not at all confident it will go ahead after reading New Zealand's reasons.

England have withdrawn their men's and women's teams from series in Pakistan that were due to take place in October.

The men were set to make their first trip to Pakistan since 2005, while the women had never before played there.

On Friday, New Zealand's men abandoned their tour of Pakistan because of a "specific and credible threat".

An England and Wales Cricket Board statement said: "We know there are increasing concerns about travelling to the region."

England Women have won the first 2 ODIs in the series. Very impressive performance by Charlie Dean in the second match. The bowling coaches are going to have a welcome headache when it comes to decisions....
