Campaign to get fans to download all 24 (!!) versions.

Adele #1 in albums.

Posted by: Dan_ Jan 2 2016, 05:06 PM

Also the fact that the Saturday mid update doesn't include any streaming. But I'm surprised it is as high as #2 all the same. It'll probably drop a fair bit by the Monday mid update but at this rate it could re-enter the top 40 officially.

Posted by: madollar Jan 2 2016, 08:23 PM

I think the Elvis album being a fiver this week will possibly put an end to Adele's reign at No 1

It would be amazing to have Motorhead at No 1 in the singles chart!!!!

I think Adele will get it - She's #1 in today's update and I would have expected Elvis to be ahead by now if he was going to get it. Also there were more shoppers/bargain hunters out last week that would have gone into HMV etc, I still think it will be really close those - Amazing success for him and would have been the biggest album over the holidays if it wasn't for Adele!

Motörhead are already falling on iTunes and have minimal streams - Can see them managing Top 30 though.

Mint Royale tweeted it when someone asked if Adele was still #1.

I was predicting Bieber would have #1 album this week but probably not then.

Bieber's all 3 singles are likely to reach a million. Has anyone had 3 songs from same album to achieve that?

It will most likely be 4 singles from the same album if you include Where Are You Now

It's never been a problem in previous years though has it? And they managed to publish all their weekly charts on Christmas Day and New Years Day. It's all very odd.

It's a shame they couldn't do a 3 hour YE chart in the traditional Sunday slot today

I know - They have almost encouraged people not to stream - Even though the conversion from streams into sales is low it helps when people do get behind streaming that have no intention of downloading the song! I think they will be safe for Top 40 - Just!

The Beatles didn't go around releasing lots of singles from their albums though. Their only studio album with three singles on it is Help!, and one of those was released over ten years later. I don't think compilations really count do they?

Posted by: Aphrodite Jan 3 2016, 09:12 PM

I really hope Adele can hold number 1, i dont want to see Elvis back at number 1. I hope Adele holds on for a few weeks yet. Sales will be low this week all round i think.

I would be astonished if Adele was caught by Elvis - if he couldn't do it last week, on the back of very advantageous price cuts, I can't see it happening.

I can't imagine Elvis generating much in the way of streams anyway.

It was about number 45 on the album streaming chart last week, so yes, almost zero effectively.

Posted by: Brian Quinn Jan 4 2016, 03:04 PM

Streaming is very ageist. Most older people do not use streaming or downloads and prefer physical copies for their collections. Some haven't even got a computer.

If it were just sales, artists like Elvis and Cliff Richard would be No.1 more often.

Does anyone else get bored of the OCC fishing for clicks and presenting facts in certain ways to make things seem more compelling sometimes? Like this week they are saying Elvis is closing in on Adele, as he is 4k behind at this stage compared to 6k last week, where as at this stage they have probably only sold 25-30k so a 4k gap is actually percentage wise bigger than a 6k gap with them selling 70-75k.

It seems so, and its looking bleaker till DJ Fresh & High Contrast releases, unless something else drops between now and than. I love to see Zara Larsson at the top, its a lovely pop dance track but for some reason I can't see it happening.

Rachel Platten's album looks like a miss, I don't think there is many people that are into Country music.

Singles chart is boring at the moment, the Justin Bieber dominance has become very boring now. Hopefully some new releases come soon and shake the chart up. It would be wonderful if Little Mix Love Me Like You Do could make the top 10 as it has come so near, but like Kiss Me by Olly Murs, number 11 looks like its peak.

Isn't that a bit disappointing for Take That, when I caught 10 mins of the tour documentary new years eve (was it new years eve?) I thought well the album will sky rocket after this. Given the lower sales in Jan I'd have put money on it rebounding to the top 20.

A fresh top 20 smash in the waiting, yay!

It's far from country music but I expect Rachel must be flopping for the same reason as Carly Rae, nobody seems to want to financially or emotionally invest in an entire album by a female pop singer that has little 'star quality' even though the music is fantastic sad.gif It also would have done better if it had been released when Fight Song was smashing.

I don't think star quality has anything to do with it, just most people these days don't want an albums worth of of that kind of pure pop and they don't have a built in fanbase.

LY streams are under 400k now according to the streaming thread whereas he was at over 500k last month.

Hopefully Snakehips and Major Lazer can rise into the top 30 by Friday - ESP the latter with its top 10 Spotify placing now!

Isn't that a bit disappointing for Take That, when I caught 10 mins of the tour documentary new years eve (was it new years eve?) I thought well the album will sky rocket after this. Given the lower sales in Jan I'd have put money on it rebounding to the top 20.

I thought the same - Also given that their tour DVDs have all so far sold well over 200,000+ copies the fact that you can get the album and CD for Ł9.99 (Less than what the standalone DVD costs) makes this a bit of a disappointment, It also hasn't helped the album has only produced 1 hit with 2 of the 4 singles released missing the Top 100.

not sure what the songs in question are (cba to look lol) but the reason songs are climbing is because the lack of a Gift Card effect which was present last week w/ it being new year, meaning newer songs will rise instead of the older songs that people buy with Gift Cards.

If Adele stays at #1 this week, she will hold the record for the most weeks at #1 by a female artist.

Posted by: BellyClarkson Jan 7 2016, 02:59 PM

I like Bieber, but I don't like how streaming has SUCH value in the chart, how a track can jump 10+ poisitions from it, or fall massively. (It's really going to affect Taylor Swift's singles in the future, she could sell a #1 single, but it'd probably just break the official top 10, people are likely to cry flop who don't understand the chart. Or Imagine if her single was just a good 'top 5' sales hit, It'd likely to chart at like #25)

So I'm hoping Shawn Mendes actually manages to scrape into 3, because I don't believe him having this #1,#2,#3 record is deserved, when so many in the past would have likely to have broken the same record had streaming been available and had such an impact then. Although it's going to be close, Adele may even fall out of the top 5, with Grace overtaking? Hello is falling fast on itunes, it's an exciting week for the chart.

#1 - Justin Bieber - Love Yourself
#2 - Justin Bieber - Sorry
#3 - Shawn Mendes/Justin Bieber
#4 - Shawn Mendes/Justin Bieber
#5 Grace/Adele

I'm going to predict Shawn will get the #3, and Grace will get the #5, pushing Adele out of the top 5. But who knows!
Also will be good to see if Little Mix are able to chart with the surge of sales

How can it be so certain if there's only 1k gap between #3 and #4 at this point?

99 Souls being top 10 pleases me. cheer.gif Please hold on!

There's no way it won't be top 10 now. There are no songs behind it outselling it and it sold more than Coldplay at #9 yesterday.

Little Mix is are at #68 with Secret Love Song, by the way smile.gif

Imagine if Adele had put her album up for streaming the week of its release, surely she would have had the top 5 in singles sewn up that week.

Posted by: JosephMendes Jan 7 2016, 07:37 PM

If everything sold the same tomorrow (not likely but it's good for an estimate) we'd be looking at:

1-3. Justin
4. Shawn (~500 above Adele, and he's ahead on streaming now so will push him ahead again slightly)
10. 99 Souls
17. Years & Years
22. Major Lazer
27. Snakehips
29. David Guetta
37. Craig David

Because streaming data is missing, which Justin Bieber is ahead on.

Posted by: Mack Jan 7 2016, 07:39 PM

Hopefully Craig David can finally break the Top40 tomorrow giving how he's done on iTunes at the moment.

Posted by: gavindeejay Jan 7 2016, 07:41 PM

Good to see Motorhead should go op 20 at least tomorrow!

Posted by: mr_pmt Jan 7 2016, 07:42 PM

Years & Years looking at top 20 then!

The song has grown on me slightly in recent times.

Posted by: Bjork Jan 7 2016, 08:02 PM

oh Craig David in!!!!!!

Posted by: Rafael x Jan 7 2016, 08:21 PM

What about History and Made In The A.M? Both at #7? (any info on sales, tho?)

Posted by: Hadji Jan 7 2016, 08:25 PM

Was expecting "Lean On" to fall seeing as it's falling on iTunes and Spotify. Hopefully Craig David will overtake them tomorrow. Really want X Ambassadors to smash the top 40

Hmm... I wonder if Elvis could overtake Adele next week? ohmy.gif

Will be the lowest selling #3 in some time, surely?

I wonder if 99 Souls will peak at #10 too, much like The Ladyboy Is Mine by Stuntmasterz in 2001 *.*

Yet another request post (sorry guys dance.gif)

Is Birdy still in the top 75, and have Foxes or Jason Derulo managed to enter the top 100?

Is there any chance of Ben Haenow making the Top 40 albums this week pls guys?

I'm not surprised at the drop for Adele - She sold a mind blowing amount in such a short amount of time that a deep decline was always going to happen especially as there is nothing to motivate new buyers (No promo, New single etc,) - I'm guessing her next promo slot will be The Brits - Disappointing she has done hardly anything for it in the UK.

Posted by: JosephMendes Jan 7 2016, 09:40 PM

Let's face it, it's not like Adele really *needs* to promote tongue.gif She's had a BBC special dedicated to her and an X Factor final performance, that's pretty amazing promo anyway, plus the BRITs.

Birdy #72, and no to either of them!

It's weird, that Birdy is doing so bad.She was number 66 in the first mids and the song has been top 30 in the most of the time+top 20 on Apple Music

Apple Music doesn't count for much, it's Spotify that matters and she's not top 200 there! The fact she's even coming for a sales top 40 with an OA/OS release is quite impressive really, she's not that big a name I wouldn't say.

Not that anyone cares anymore but Louisa Johnson in her 4th week is down to #123. Even Sam Bailey managed to hang on to a Top 40 place (#23) in her 4th week.

TOTAL sales so far: 88,038 including 486 yesterday. Almost 1K in CD sold this week though so unbelievably going to be the physical chart #1 for a 4th week!

I think it's fair to say she would be absolutely nothing without advertising commercials promoting her songs (as I believe her two previous had been noticed because of them, and now they've tried to get exposure for this new one in the same way).

Just shows how pointless physicals are in terms of affecting the chart and how little impact they make on positions laugh.gif

She has probably only sold 1k cds as I imagine it is being flogged off for barely anything now.

I thought Apple Music accounted for more of the market too - Seems with dying downloads Apple need to up their game on streaming?

Disappointed that Birdy has dropped - Hope this can become a steady climber over the coming weeks.
