Coming soon.

I've decided on the songs and I'm just ranking them now. I think I'm going to take my time doing this (concurrent with my One Hit Wonders Thread) and post about artists rather than the order of the songs.

I’ve tried to make it so it’s mostly only songs released in the past 10 years. This means that songs like So Solid Crew’s 21 Seconds which reached #2 in my chart in 2014 and would probably feature in my top 100 played songs of the decade have been disqualified. There are some expectations to this rule and they are songs which that I now associate more with the past decade (ie Hooked On A Feeling) or have a special link to the 2010’s that earn them inclusion (ie Let’s Get Ready To Rhumble).

676 Down Bad (J.I.D, Bas, J. Cole, Earthgang & Young Nudy)

Yugen Blakrok
??? Opps (Vince Staples & Yugen Blakrok ft Kendrick Lamar)

Zayion McCall
738 Juju On That Beat (TZ Anthem) (Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall)

This leaves 419 artists left with a lead-credited hit.

Nice to see Lika a G6 here, that will be appearing in my EOD as well albeit quite a bit higher. Other favourites from that list are Alcohol is Free, Pow 2011, Goodbye to Yesterday, Hello and Bump & Grind 2014 - all massive tunes!

The 1975

The 1975 are an English pop rock band formed in 2002 in Wilmslow, Cheshire. Now based in Manchester, the band consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matthew Healy, lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel

??? The Sound
623 Love Me

The 1975 scored their only two hits simultaneously in my chart although I do low-key like some of their other songs; particularly The City after its FIFA 14 appearance. The Sound is in the top 250 so I won’t talk about that now but ‘Love Me’ lands at #623. The main appeal of the song is obviously the killer riff that opens the track and runs throughout the rest of the song. The song started out higher than The Sound in my chart and eventually peaked at #3 and finished at #72 in my 2016 EOY chart. I’ve also got to support local talent seeming that they were formed in the best county of them all!

2 Chainz

Tauheed Epps (born September 12, 1977), known professionally as 2 Chainz (formerly Tity Boi), is an American rapper, songwriter and media personality. Born and raised in College Park, Georgia, he initially gained recognition for being one-half of the Southern hip hop duo Playaz Circle, alongside his longtime friend and fellow rapper Earl "Dolla Boy" Conyers.

??? We Own It (Fast & Furious) (2 Chainz & Wiz Khalifa)
431 Mercy (Kanye West ft Big Sean & Pusha T)
497 Yes (Louisa Johnson ft 2 Chainz)
530 F**kin’ Problems (A$AP Rocky ft Drake, 2 Chainz & Kendrick Lamar)
870 Trampoline (Tinie Tempah ft 2 Chainz)
928 X (ScHoolboy Q, 2 Chainz & Saudi ft Kendrick Lamar)

2 Chainz’s only lead-credited hit is among the top 250 so I won’t spent too long discussing him. He’s never been a rapper I’ve been particularly fond of but I do especially enjoy his verse on ‘Mercy’ and his iconic chorus to ‘F**kin’ Problems’. He doesn’t really add too much value to Yes or Trampoline but they do help him rack up some extra credits.

21 Savage

Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph (born October 22, 1992), better known by his stage name 21 Savage, is a rapper, songwriter and record producer. He was born in Plaistow, London, England, and moved to Atlanta, Georgia when he was 7 years old. He became known in Atlanta for the 2015 mixtape The Slaughter Tape before attaining nationwide attention following an EP collaboration Savage Mode (2016) with the producer Metro Boomin.

??? A Lot (ft J. Cole)
??? Bank Account
??? Rockstar (Post Malone ft 21 Savage)
286 Monster (ft Childish Gambino)
780 X (21 Savage & Metro Boomin ft Future)
841 Bartier Cardi (Cardi B ft 21 Savage)

While his 21 ad-lib was probably what he was originally most famous for (21), 21 Savage is now best known for the crazy incident last year when he was discovered to be an English immigrant to America staying past his visa. The cue of many memes, (got his name from 21 Seconds anyone?), he still hasn't fully sorted it out but has managed to win a Grammy & go on tour alongside DaBaby.

He gained 3 #1's in my chart and two of them (Bank Account & Monster) made my EOD 250. Monster falls just short at #286 but is a very good song in it's own right. It recently finished at #43 in my 2019 countdown but it's newness hindered it's chances of ending any higher here. It is a fairly standard 'Rags to Riches / Money Corrupts' song but Gambino's slick chorus and 21's playful raps make it stand out. The piano outro is a delight also.

'X' was the debut hit for him in my chart (after a short stint as a featured artist on Drake's 'Sneakin' and lands at #780. It peaked at #7 in my charts in 2017 and at #91 in the EOY chart. A common criticism of 21's music is that he sounds bored, but it was that monotone, slightly distant tone which made him stand out and really works well for the message of the song (flexing on his ex) and is perfectly accompanied by Metro Boomin's suitably dark production. The lyrics verge on the line of being awful a few times but the occasional witty bar keeps in on the right side. Future also puts in some of his best work and there is a very nice back and forth that develops between the two.

3OH!3

3OH!3 (pronounced "three oh three") is an American electronic music duo from Boulder, Colorado, made up of Sean Foreman, born August 27, 1985, and Nathaniel Motte, born January 13, 1984, both of whom are natives of Boulder, Colorado. Foreman and Motte started their band in 2004 and named it after the 303 area code that had (at the time of their birth) encompassed the entire state of Colorado.

603 Starstrukk (ft Katy Perry)

While 3oh!3 by all counts made pretty rubbish music, they did manage 2 releases that I enjoyed. And while I did prefer 'Don't Trust Me', Starstrukk was their big hit in the UK and was a song I certainly enjoyed last 2009/early 2010. While the song certainly sounds very much of it's time, it is incredibly fun in a way we rarely see in the current, big pop releases. Katy Perry really steals the show though with the song being released at the time where she was really at the top of her game. Fun 3oh!3 fact: Both members worked on Ariana Grande's debut album, Yours Truly. Foreman is in-fact the co-writer of Tattooed Heart while Motte co-produced the track.

The 88

The 88 is an American pop rock band from Los Angeles, California. The group consists of Keith Slettedahl (vocals and guitar), Adam Merrin (keyboards and vocals), Anthony Zimmitti (drums and percussion), and Todd O'Keefe (bass and vocals). Meeting in high school in Calabasas, California, Adam Merrin and Keith Slettedahl formed the band in 2002. The band's popularity grew from high-profile song placements in video games, films, commercials, and popular TV shows

??? At Least It Was Here

The 88 are a band I know next to nothing about. I'm still not sure whether it is to be pronounced 'the eighty eight' or 'the eight eight'. But they did record the theme tune to one of my favourite TV shows of all-time, Community. Running from 2009-2015, I didn't begin to watch the show until 2016 where this song quickly steeped its way into my head and reached #1 in my charts. It is also my current ringtone and has been for a few years now. Creator Dan Harmon has since gone on to co-create one of the 2010's most loved shows, Rick & Morty.

99 Souls

99 Souls are a British house duo. consisting of Soul & Jo. They are best known for their 2015 single "The Girl Is Mine", a mash-up of Destiny's Child's "Girl" and Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine". The single peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart in January 2016.

578 The Girl Is Mine (ft Destiny's Child & Brandy)

The only song to appear from UK Chart one-hit wonders and one time Buzzjack members 99 Souls. I first heard this well over half a year before it properly blew up after getting the rights sorted. Getting Destiny's Child to agree to it and Brandy to re-record her vocals was brilliant but it's a shame that Monica didn't agree to do the same. Listening to the song again and it still sounds pretty good but I just haven't gone back to it enough for it to end up any higher here. The song peaked at #4 in my charts and landed at #95 in my 2015 EOY chart.

A Great Big World

A Great Big World is an American musical duo from New York made up of singer/songwriters Ian Axel and Chad King who met at New York University, where they were attending the Steinhardt Music Program.

507 Say Something (ft Christina Aguilera)

As you can probably tell from the rest of the countdown, this really isn't usually my type of music but Say Something is one of the rare songs that really made me feel emotion on the first listen. Although, it doesn't have the same effect on me anymore after overplay and X Factor overkill, it's still a really nice song to listen to and stands out among the other ballads of the 2010's. Christina usually has a tendency to go bold and oversing which she doesn't do here and the song is all the better for it. The song peaked at #2 in my charts and landed at #61 in my 2014 EOY chart.

A$AP Rocky

Rakim Athelaston Mayers (born October 3, 1988), known professionally as A$AP Rocky is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, model, actor, and music video director. He is a member of the hip hop collective A$AP Mob, from which he adopted his moniker. Furthermore, he is a noted record producer, producing under the pseudonym Lord Flacko.

??? Everyday (ft Rod Stewart, Miguel & Mark Ronson)
??? Good For You (Selena Gomez ft A$AP Rocky)
??? Praise The Lord (Da Shine) (ft Skepta)
530 F**kin' Problems (ft Drake, 2 Chainz & Kendrick Lamar)

Rocky is one of those artists who releases a lot of music I'm not a fan of but when he does make a song I like, it really connects. Everyday & Praise The Lord are both massive tunes that I will discuss later which leaves F**kin' Problems as his only hit outside the top 250. Originally released in 2012, it was a song that I never really got into at the time but just sounded better and better over time. Rocky is not the best part of the song though, that would be Kendrick's brilliant verse that concludes the song. It's weird to hear Drake rap after the years of the sing-rap that's made him so successful. It did manage a belated #6 peak in my charts in 2016.

Ab-Soul

Herbert Anthony Stevens IV (born February 23, 1987), better known by his stage name Ab-Soul, is an American rapper from Carson, California. In 2007, he signed to indie record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), where he eventually formed a West Coast hip hop supergroup Black Hippy alongside other rappers Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q.

842 Bloody Waters (Ab-Soul, Anderson .Paak & James Blake)

Only charting due my obsession with the Black Panther soundtrack back in 2018 (9 songs from the album will appear here). Coming from an artist I otherwise hadn't heard of, this was a great surprise. Ab-Soul is obviously a great lyricist ("it's warfare. Is war fair? No") and has a great flow. I should really check out more of his music. The song peaked at #4 in my charts and #102 in the EOY chart. It also contains one of my favourite lyrics of the decade

Afrojack

Nick van de Wall (born 9 September 1987), professionally known as Afrojack, is a Dutch DJ, music programmer, record producer, and remixer from Spijkenisse. In 2007, he founded the record label Wall Recordings; his debut album Forget the World was released in 2014.

746 No Beef (Afrojack & Steve Aoki ft Miss Palmer)
792 Hey Mama (David Guetta ft Nicki Minaj & Afrojack)

No Beef was a song that I loved back in 2011 but then completely forgot about. I was reminded of it last year after probably about 2 plays of it in the previous 7 years. The drop is pretty fun and it was released before I got bored of the overuse of similar sounding drops in the following years. The vocal part is also a nice inclusion.

Aggro Santos

Yuri "Aggro" Santos (born 12 October 1989) is a Brazilian rapper who lives in Balham, London. Santos studied at Salesian College in Battersea, and went on to study at the BRIT School.

??? Candy (ft Kimberly Wyatt)
932 Like U Like (ft Kimberly Walsh)

Aggro's music seems so long ago it's hard to believe it was released in the decade that only just ended. I actually much preferred Like U Like at the time and even downloaded in onto my iPod Touch but even while how dated 'Candy' sounds it's held up really well for me and its still a song I jam to frequently. I've ranked 'Like U Like' far too low here but it's too late to change it now. It should probably be somewhere in the 450-600 region at least. Please go and visit him at aggrosantos.com (as Rush found out still exists in my NBTVJ's quiz), he could do with the views. It's been 10 years since he appeared on I'm a Celebrity. ohmy.gif

AJ Tracey

Ché Wolton Grant, known professionally as AJ Tracey, is a British rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is from Ladbroke Grove, West London. Grant's father, of Trinidadian origin, is a former rapper, and his Welsh mother is a former jungle DJ. Ché is the cousin of fellow grime MC and close collaborator Big Zuu.

??? Butterflies (AJ Tracey & Not3s)
??? Psych Out
437 Fashion Week (Steel Banglez ft AJ Tracey & MoStack)
474 Lo(v/s)er
609 Floss (ft MoStack & Not3s)
729 Elastic
747 Thiago Silva (Dave & AJ Tracey)
800 Cat Pack
834 Kiss And Tell (AJ Tracey & Skepta)
984 Halloween (ft Young Adz)
994 Jackpot

While I had known his music for a little while, it took until the smash 'Butterflies' before I (and the charts) starting taking notice of AJ. Since then he has established himself as one of my current favourite artists with a stellar 2019. Even if his signature hit 'Ladbroke Grove' wasn't massive in my charts and misses out on this countdown completely.

Psych Out and the aforementioned Buterflies are both in the top 250 and his nearest to joining them was Lo(v/s)er which peaked at #5 in my weekly chart (#63 EOY 2018). This track was held up incredibly well over the past year and has racked up plenty of trickle listens. The 'I love a pretty Latina' refrain is a bit of an earworm.

All his other lead-credit entries come from last year, the highest of which being Floss at #609 (Peak #3, EOY #64). MoStack's verse was notably cut in-half three days into the song's release but fortunately I had the original saved before the change. I'm still a little bitter about not being able to find the video with the original verse but the song is still a jam without it. AJ & Mo's parts are great but Not3s' verse is a little weak. Elastic (Peak #2. EOY #54) actually peaked higher in my recent EOY chart than Floss but ends up lower here due to a different thought-process when thinking in terms of a decade compared to a single year. This is a very fast-paced single of the Top Boy soundtrack and is much more similar to the music AJ was releasing before he had hits than what he does now. It's a fun tune but one of his more forgettable. Cat Pack (Peak #3, EOY #96) was the lead-single from the deluxe version of his debut album and charted for a few weeks before it was overshadowed by Floss. It's certainly not essential AJ Tracey and that was reflected in it missing the top 40. It's probably a little too American influenced with the same producer as Mo Bamba.

Kiss And Tell (Peak #8, EOY #113) was AJ's dream collab with Skepta. It's a decent song but was released just after the re-release of his album in a time of AJ overkill and disappointed with only 1 week in the top 40. A Skepta/AJ collab could have (and should have) been so much more. Halloween (Peak #7, EOY #111) features Young Adz from everyone's favourite BRIT nominated twosome D-Block Europe. Adz is always good for a catchy hook and that's what he provides here. Jackpot (Peak #13) is my favourite album track from AJ Tracey and scrapes a place in the top 1000. It's probably closest in sound to a slower, more summery 'Elastic'. When I listened to this track is when I knew the album was going to be better that I expected. It would have peaked much higher if it wasn't released the same day as Thank U, Next as that encompassed the whole 12 tracks above it when it peaked at #13.

Alessia Cara

Alessia Caracciolo (born July 11, 1996), known professionally as Alessia Cara, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. After producing acoustic covers, she signed with EP Entertainment and Def Jam Recordings in 2014 and released her debut single the following year. "Here" reached number 19 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart and was a sleeper hit in the United States, peaking at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

258 1-800-273-8255 (Logic ft Alessia Cara & Khalid)
498 Here

Here (2015, Peak 3, EOY #43) has become the introvert anthem with its tale of awkwardness at parties which makes it very relatable, I hate parties too. But it’s also just a great song. Alessia’s personality shines and she sounds so smooth, relatable and despite what the song’s lyrics would try to make you think, cool. I did kinda forget about this song or it would have been much higher. I thought this had peaked at #2 in my charts but I looked and it was #3 behind Do It Again and… Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae).

Alex Clare

Alexander George Clare is an English singer and songwriter. Alexander was born in Southwark, London. His debut album, The Lateness of the Hour, was released in the UK on 11 July 2011 on Island Records and was produced by Mike Spencer and Major Lazer.

512 Endorphins (Sub Focus ft Alex Clare)
956 Too Close

Alex Clare is someone who has just seemed to disappear after a couple of busy years on the scene. Too Close was his only solo hit (top 10 in the USA) ohmy.gif after its use in an advert for Internet Explorer (lol). The song is a weird Tom Walker meets dubstep mix but it somehow works, probably helped by Major Lazer's production. For how big this hit was it does seem rather forgotten now.

Alexandra Stan

Alexandra Ioana Stan (born 10 June 1989) is a Romanian singer and songwriter. Born and raised in the city of Constanța, she made her worldwide breakthrough with the 2011 single "Mr. Saxobeat". Stan was discovered at a karaoke bar in 2009 and offered a contract with the Maan Records label.

??? Mr Saxobeat

Mr Saxobeat is in my top 250 and is easily one of my favourite dance records of the decade helped by me having a massive crush on her back in year 8. She is also responsible for the most suspenseful final tweet on any Twitter account ever. More info never came.

Alexis Jordan

Alexis Jordan (born April 7, 1992) is an American singer and actress from Columbia, South Carolina. Jordan rose to fame as a contestant on the first season of America's Got Talent in 2006 at the age of 14. After being eliminated from the show, she began to upload cover songs to YouTube, which received millions of views. The exposure led Jordan to the attention of Norwegian production team Stargate and American rapper Jay Z, who both went on to sign her to their joint label, StarRoc.

??? Good Girl
709 Got 2 Luv U (Sean Paul ft Alexis Jordan)

Alexis Jordan is another artist who seemingly disappeared after a short spell of success. Good Girl is a jam (as evidenced by my inclusion of it in my NMTBJ quiz) but I never liked her other big hit, Happiness. It was great to see her pop up on the Sean Paul song a couple of years later but she needs to come back again. Her voice was great and the professionally unreleased Acid Rain, which sampled Bingo Players, sounded decent.
