BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions (Wednesday Update + Sales)

Posted by: Joe. 13th February 2016, 11:44 AM

After breaking 100k at #1 last week, Danish group Lukas Graham look set for a second week atop of the charts. Main competition comes from Rihanna, who is already riding high on iTunes and Spotify and could drop her, previously teased, music video at any point.

In terms of albums, Lissie and Ronan Keating are notable new releases, but it looks like an older release will more likely take the top spot. Though they don't tend to have huge effects over in the UK, the Grammys could provide a chart shake-up towards the end of the week, with the likes of Adele, Rihanna and Lady Gaga all performing.

Breakdown of the week
- Saturday and Sunday: Information on Twitter from MintRoyale only. Please do not make requests, we do not have any information other than what's posted.
- Monday: OCC Top 100 + Radio 1 Chart Update 5:30pm to 5:45pm.
- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.
- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.
- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)
- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).
- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.
- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored.
- To keep everyone in the loop of all chart action, please refer to the iTunes and Spotify threads.

Ronan at number 1 at the moment, according to Mint Royale. Urgh.

I reckon Lukas has the height for at least 3 weeks, unless Rihanna's video boosts it up enough to knock Lukas off.

Potentially more, there aren't any other songs around at the moment that can knock them off.

unless Adele does well, but I can't see her doing that well with WWWY

Queuing behind Ben Haenow? biggrin.gif

Seriously though, no-one is expecting More and More to do anything right now, and it's uncertain if it will with such a messy campaign.

Is there really any messy releases any more? Songs 'released' after an album is out now are basically OA/OS and if the public like them they pick up streaming gradually and shoot up itunes and airplay. More and more has already been dropped off playlists and is nowhere to be seen on either streaming or itunes and it has had a performance which a lot of songs that are hits don't even get these days.

Posted by: Doctor Blind 13th February 2016, 12:35 PM

Well as I was told repeatedly a few weeks ago, it hasn't had its IMPACT week yet.. although most of us could see given the rather limp reaction to a primetime performance it was always doomed.

Posted by: Joe. 13th February 2016, 12:36 PM

Sammy doesn't like Fleur?! ohmy.gif

Anyway, I'm really hoping Little Mix can sneak their way into the top 5 this week, though I can see a #6 with their name on it.

Yes, there are messy releases. Its impact week has apparently been and gone with no sign of Radio 1 playlisting, and the music video has only just been shot, inferring that they're still trying to make it happen? Capital have dropped it because they expect two plays on their station to send a song to #1 (exaggerating of course but the point stands). It's barely even had a chance.

Doctor Blind - it had a good reaction, no? It came from nowhere into the iTunes top 60, that's not bad at all. The NTAs aren't exactly renown for giving big boosts to songs unsure.gif

I wouldn't describe that as a good reaction, pretty average really - especially as it didn't sell the 2.8K required to make the Top 200 that week from an audience of ~5 million.

Maybe, I'd say they'd need to be safely within the top 10 on Spotify by Monday though. I can see them missing it behind, Lukas, Blue, Rihanna, Shawn and Zayn.

More and More isn't a bona-fide disaster just yet. There is still the video to be unveiled. Although, let's be honest, it was never a great single choice.

There are loads of messy release schedules. And whilst the NTA is a big audience, it's not the type of audience that is going to have a huge influence on the charts. So you're points aren't fully fair imo.

Posted by: timjimlee 13th February 2016, 04:01 PM

So Kanye West has taken himself out of contention in the Album Chart?
T.L.O.P. , The Lord of Publicity surely has a few more controversial moments lined up this week!

I can see Adele returning to number 1 in Album chart this week

It is completely fair, it has been sent to radio, advertised as her next single, performed on a big tv slot (it isn't like it was performed on football focus, I'm sure a lot of NTA audience is X factor viewers) and has failed to connect in any way with the public. Radios are already dropping it and a video at this point just seems to be wasted money.

For comparison Secret love song was being picked up by radio early, flew up itunes and now streaming has caught on, the video is just the push it needed to crack the top 10 not try and get it a top 200 peak. The only performance they did until last night was Jingle bell ball, which isn't broadcast is it any way.

More and more has been given as much of a chance as any song can at this stage and it is doing nothing.

Posted by: Eva_coco_may 13th February 2016, 05:02 PM

The impact week for more and more has supposedly changed they should've shot the video before the NTA awards and it went into number 50 by the way, if everything had been ready to go it could've been a different story.

ps Fleur was a last minute addition to the NTA and I think the single was rushed through to coincide with that, its not gone down with the public at this stage, why would radio play it if it has changed impact week? There is some life left in it but i really do not expect it to do amazing so better luck next time - i think people are still buzzin over sax.

The video for more and more has been done, if syco doomed it as a flop as they know whats going on chart wise - why would they have her fly out shoot a video knowing its not been playlisted or in the top 150 songs - would it not have been safer to move on to another single? somethings going on.

NTA is not a great promo slot - they are there to see soap stars get rewards not buy music.

Posted by: Eva_coco_may 13th February 2016, 05:05 PM

Sammy you seem to be forgetting that Little mix have a massive fanbase and yes I like secret love song but just because thats doing well doesnt mean a new artist like fleur is going to have a massive impact straight away, things can take a while to get going, also jason derulo also features so its both sets of fans so not a fair judgement really is it.

Look at the song zayn pulled out complete and utter dirge, plenty of decent songs dont chart well for god knows what reason. If you have a fanbase big enough all songs will fly up the chart whether theyre decent or not just remember that.

And fyi More and More has total streaming of over half a mill and breakfast is nearly at a mill with little promo so there is potential there with both songs if she chooses to release breakfast im sure that will connect with the public more like it has done, its trial and error.

Posted by: Joe. 13th February 2016, 05:09 PM

Can we draw a line under Fleur for now? It's going round in circles.

Posted by: Eva_coco_may 13th February 2016, 05:11 PM

Yes we get it, we shouldn't write off More and More.

Posted by: Joe. 13th February 2016, 05:29 PM

While it was may have been doomed from the single choice, we indeed do not know the facts, and it might do something closer to impact week. But there's no point goin round in circles over it, whether you love Fleur or have decided that everything she does is a flop before it starts.

So, let's move on.

Posted by: Eva_coco_may 13th February 2016, 05:46 PM

Not exactly top 5. All I Ask's progress on that week from Friday to Thursday:

Also doubt it will get to number 1 if release is Tidal only - last Album Yeezus sold 25k in first week when release was more widely available.
Suspect Adele may increase to above 25k (after Grammys)
Also may have underestimated Ronan Keating's chances...

Posted by: JosephStyles 14th February 2016, 08:41 PM

Yeah it depends how well Viola Beach hold up as to whether they'll be top 40. Fewer people will already own it unlike the Bowie songs so that could see some continued interest. Streaming numbers for today for the track will be very interesting! I don't think All I Ask is a good comparison anyway because that really did have no streaming, this has the possibility of at least one day of good streaming.

Posted by: Mart123 15th February 2016, 10:14 AM

It's very sad about viola beach! I think the single will probably enter the top 40 we will know later on today! Also predicting Adele to return to the top after her Grammys performance ! Then the Brits next week! Two weeks at the top fingers crossed!!

Posted by: mdh 15th February 2016, 10:23 AM

I think the Viola Beach song could catch on, it's a really good song that will appeal to a large audience. I hope it can keep climbing on iTunes.

Good to see Adele at #1 again, should get a small boost with the grammys tonight (although they air tomorrow in the UK I think?). Plus "When We Were Young" is increasingly nicely in both airplay and streaming. Can't wait for the BRITS performance - could put "When We Were Young" in contention for #1.

It has nothing to do with today's chart update as Digital Sales Data is an estimation of the last 24 hours (it's a rolling 24 hours chart, so 16-17 hours are already from today)

The run of British Legends at the top of the Album Chart continues this year (Adele -> David Bowie -> Coldplay -> Adele), thought non-Brits Kanye West, Rihanna and Sia would challenge in recent weeks.
Looking at Release schedule can't see any non-Brits challenging in coming months (with possible exception of Bieber moving back up).

Jack Garratt to challenge next week and 1975 the week after but Adele should have enough of a boost from Awards performances to hold on.

I think Adele will have at least four consecutive weeks back at No. 1 starting from this week.

I finally got to see the Anti CD in Asda today, there is no wonder it isn't selling you really wouldn't know it was her new album. No name or title and no tracklisting, 99% of people pick up an album and look at the back for tracks they know, no wonder it is called Anti!

seems very likely at this rate. It'll probably be the biggest selling song of the year too, we always seem to get those in the first month or two now (or even before then in the case of Uptown Funk/Happy).

Posted by: Zárate 16th February 2016, 08:49 AM

^Yep, because of streaming and very spread chart runs it's far easier to get a #1/top-10 Y/E in the first half or even quarter of the year.

I think the "who still doesn't own the Adele album?" comments started at about the 3m mark for 21, and have continued as it sells another 2m copies on top.
Starting the same comments at only 2.68m copies for 25 seems a tad premature.

in a regular week, the 1975 should be #1 with their sophomore album... but they chose to release on the same week as the Brits, and that might cost them if Adele gets a big increase from her performance/wins

Posted by: Bré 16th February 2016, 10:00 AM

It's very well established that successful albums continue to sell for a long time. 'Who doesn't already own this?' is always a pointless 'argument'.

Jack Garratt's album will probably be low top 5 at absolute best, but The 1975 should get a pretty easy #1, maybe for a few weeks.

Posted by: Dan_ 16th February 2016, 10:03 AM

I'd say The 1975 are on for good first week sales though, like 60-70k (their first album did 31k first week and their fanbase has grown since).

Not that I'm ruling out Adele but I think they have a very good chance of going to #1.

The point people are making is, there's still a lot more copies 25 can, and will, sell. It should do another 1M this year alone.

There's 60 million people in the UK. It doesn't take a genius to understand that there are people who don't own any given album.

Exactly!!!...I totally agree.
Or Queens album..there are approx 53 million in the UK who don't own it. Plus everyone that could have owned it but has died since it was released.

Record stats are only relevant in comparison with other records stats.
And the % of people that regularly buy records is quite low...Artists like Adele reach outside this and get sales from people who don't normally buy ......
So she still has a great untapped market and it makes "who hasn't bought this yet" even more irrelevant.
