Chart Highlights
  • Taylor Swift remains at #1 on the Hot 100 for a second week. The last time a #1 debut by a female artist managed more than a week at #1 was in 2011, when Lady GaGa spent her first 6 weeks at #1 with "Born This Way".
  • "Shake It Off" sold 355k this week. While it is down 35%, the last record to manage over 300k in its second week is Katy Perry's "Roar", which managed over 300k in its first 6 weeks.
  • Ladies dominate the upper echelons of the Hot 100, with the top 4 currently led by female artists. The last time this happened was the March 3rd, 2012 chart, where females led the Top 5.
  • After 14 week on the chart, Tove Lo climbs into the Top 20 with "Habits".
  • This week's total digital track sales were 20.3 million - up +5% on last week but down -10% compared with same week last year. YTD stands at 774.6 million - down -13% on same point last year.

Phew! I was getting worried about 2 Chainz, doesn't seem right him not being anywhere on the Hot 100.

So happy for Charli! I can see it staying in the lower half of the top ten for a while! It's definitely a stable hit, I hope it can go top 5.

Does anyone know the last female Swedish artist to have a Top 20 hit?

It's the kind of stat Paul Grein usually posts, but he hasn't this week. laugh.gif

You mean solo female artist, right? I'm not certain but I would guess Neneh Cherry back in the late 80s. Wikipedia says Kisses on the Wind reached #8 in 1989 and Buffalo Stance reached #3 in 1988.

Yes solo.

If it's Neneh Cherry, that's a long way back.

The one with Cashmere Cat is Be My Baby, not that other horrendous track. YAAAS at Love Me Harder, Break Your Heart Right Back and One Last Time entering Bubbling Under. My Everything was a bit surprising though. No Hands On Me? laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Someone with a magazine will have to tell us which of her songs is at #13, as there's obviously a mistake.

Rita actually dropping back now is weird. If this isn't her breakthrough I don't know what will be.

Rita Ora isn't going to happen. Just like Nicole Scherzinger and The Saturdays.

I thought IWNLYD would be the song to make her happen because it seemed to be picking up good momentum but it seems to have gone totally into reverse again, can we blame Calvin on that? laugh.gif

It was the same with 'How We Do'. It suddenly started rocketing up (quite a bit higher than this though), then suddenly just died and was gone five minutes later.

If ATRL are right with their stats, Shake It Off's second week digital sales are about 50k higher than We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together's second week digital sales. While that is probably partly due to the VMAs, it still shows Taylor's immense selling power in the US and that she hasn't lost popularity through her move to pop so far.

Rita's already had some sort of breakthrough on Black Widow. Maybe not as lead artist but still a top 10 to her name.

All thanks to Iggy. The general public still doesn't know who she is. I've heard some even say Iggy is the one singing the chorus.
