- Releasing 'It's No Secret' as the follow up to 'The Locomotion'...

After Kylie scored a huge top 3 hit in the US with 'The Locomotion' Kylie's managment surprisingly decided to release the lame 'It's no secret' as the follow up.
Instead of releasing 'Got to be certain', 'Hand on your heart', 'Especially for you' etc... and scoring hits with those,
Result: Kylie barely scraped the top 40 with 'It's no secret' and disappeared from the US music scene for 14 years!!!!

-Not releasing 'Better the devil you know' and 'Step back in time' or 'What do i have to do'.

Which would have at least been top 20 hits for her.... SAW were scoring hits back then with Rick Astley, Bananarama and Samantha Fox in the States... So Kylie had a chance of scoring big there too.

-Not releasing 'Confide in me' or 'Put yourself in my place'

Which were pop classics and could have returned her to the top 40 at least.

-Releasing 'Come into my world' as the follow up to 'Love at first sight'.

'Can't get you out of my head' was a huge hit for Kylie in the US reaching number 7, and 'Love at first sight' reached the top 30.
Instead of releasing the great 'In your eyes' or the funky 'Fever' or 'Boy', Kylie went for the album filler 'Come Into my world' as 3rd single ,which , despite winning a grammy, barely reached the Hot 100.

-Releasing 'Slow' as the first single from 'Body Language'.

'Body language' was all in all not a good idea as the follow up to the commercially succesful 'Fever'. and 'Slow' was a bad choice for the US. They obviously wanted another pop/dance album , instead all they got was an R&B wannabe album with tuneless songs sounding like they could've been sung by anyone. Novertheless, 'Slow' was a bad choice for the US. 'Cruise Control' (featuring Sean Paul) or rereleasing a track from Light Years would have been at least a better choice.

Result: the album flopped hard and denied Kylie the chance of a good follow-up after the surprisingle successful 'Fever' album...

-Releasing 'All i see' as the first single from 'X'

It might be an OK song but it surely doesn't have hit potential. Kylie choose the wrong song to promote in the US sounding like a leftover from an old Ashanti album with a 5 pound budget video shot with an iphone 1S.
Kylie didn't impress US audiences with that tune, she should've released a more authentic Kylie track such as 'In My Arms' which was the obvious lead single from X. 'Speakerphone' or 'Like a drug' or even un-released track 'Come Down' which don't sound like anything in the US scene right now and would've given her a bigger push.
Result: 'All i see' failed to make the Hot 100 and her album 'X' reached a sad number 139!!!!! sick2.gif

-Promoting 'Get outta my way' as the lead single from 'Aphrodite' instead of 'All the Lovers'

'All the Lovers' was obviously to be Kylie's biggest international hit since 'Can't get you out of my head', it went top 10 in many european countries, yet smart Parlophone decided to choose 90's retro-disco sounding 'Get outta my way' for her US campaign... the result: a no show on the BB Hot 100 and zero airplay....

-Not promoting 'TimeBomb' in the US Despite it being her biggest download success in the US ever

The 'TimeBomb' campaign started really well, with it being released to radio, itunes & TV at the same time, and the US seemed to catch up with the Kylie fever :'Timebomb' reached number 35 on iTunes US within 48 hours of its release, and the americans seemed to like the song, yet again, Kylie didn't do the effort of promoting in the US and decided to appear at D-rated TV programms such as the Fashion Police where she dissed Madonna in order to grab headlines...
Result: TimeBomb dropped in the itunes US charts like a rock and was immediatly forgotten...

Final Result: Her US managment should be fired!!!!! NOW!!!!!

I cant agree with 'Come Into My World' at all - that was an excellent choice and helped Fever on it's way to sales of over 1m.

Similarly 'Slow' was the logical choice, followed by 'RBW', so it's just a shame they didn't catch on...

Obviously you're right about 'All I See' - it should've been 'Speakerphone'.

So you mean, killed her career in the US right? laugh.gif In this case, I really couldn't care less because I honestly don't think she'd ever be able to have major success there. It's like expecting Eurovision to be watched by the majority of Americans.

She won't have any more success, it's not because the label killed her career in that country, it's just that she is not popular.

She could have major success; she experienced it during the Fever era.

True. The Fever era must be her most successful in the USA.

oh well, if they don't like her it just means there is more for us biggrin.gif

i agree with most of the points, but especially with All I See. That was such a stupid choice, and so obviously made because of the fact it was the most 'urban' sounding. Maybe we should be in charge of her american record label - we'd show them whats what! naughty.gif

I agree with all of those points, especially with "It's No Secret"; she should have capitalised on the success of "The Loco-Motion". I can understand the label releasing "All I See" but it isn't Kylie and they shouldn't have tried to make her into something she's not.

It's just the USA. They don't like her a lot, making her do bad. It's not anything that 'killed' her career there.

No, you missed my point, she always gives the attitude that "if it happens, it happens, who cares!?" wink.gif

i don't think that it's because they don't like her....
she didn't have a chance to get enough exposure over there ...
She needs a huge promotional boost like Leona had....
With that kind of exposure i'm sure Kylie could make it huge over there, even with her dance tracks.

That could be it. But I'm sure there must have been quite a bit of promotion.

Yes - it was actually released on CD single in the states. I think it flopped and got to about no90 ish. I've checked this information on sayhey and another member has also confirmed it did get a USA release.
