It's Bryan Ferry's Glamrock pounding version of Dobie Gray's 60's soul classic The 'In' Crowd new in at one. It originally peaked at 8 in my charts of the time, and then as the years went by I realised that it was a stonkingly fab track, as were a few other early Roxy Music tracks, and none of them topped my charts at the time. Pyjamarama and Virginia Plain finally topped my charts in 1977 and Jealous Guy in 1981, so this is just Bryan's 4th chart-topper with at least another 3 deserving of a top spot. It's currently being used as the bed to a TV promo spot and made the itunes top 200 last week, so that's a good enough excuse for me! In at 2, the record I forgot to chart 2 weeks ago when I bought it! I could have sworn it had entered my top 20, but alas no! So that is fixed as Drew Sycamore enters at 2, her debut, and the fab 45 Fahrenheit Girl. Olivia Rodrigo gets a first top 10 with the better of her two big hits, Deja Vu is great, and Years & Years return to to the upper echelons since they last ventured this far, courtesy of Pet Shop Boys' chart-topping Dreamland in 2019, their 5th in total since starting years & years ago in 2014, including 2 chart-toppers in 2015 with King and Shine. New entries include OneRepublic, new at 29 extending their Run to 11 years, Jack Savoretti making it 6 years with Who's Hurting Who at 33, assisted ably by Bass-player-for-hire Nile Rodgers on a more funky offering than usual, extending his run to an amazing 43 years. Just to underline the point, when I was disco-dancing to Dance Dance Dance in my first year at Uni, Chic's first hit, I was 20. So, more power to him! Beverley Knight is also back as guest on not-her-relative debuting Mark Knight's new gospel track, making it 23 sweet years of charting. So, of non-debuts so far, everyone has had a previous chart-topper. At 51, not a previous chart-topper, but following up his best track to date Jake Bugg is a bit Lost at 51, Coldplay have also have oodles of chart-toppers, and quietly return singing to a higher power (but lower chart position) at 54, Lola Lennox gets a 3rd chart entry, Wherever You Go mum Annie will be helping, and Jessie Ware is also back, Please, it must be the 24th good track off the album out as a single. P!nk triples her number of singles on the rundown in one fell swoop as her new ballad joins Rag'n'bone Man's power-ballad duet with her entering the chart. T'Pau have 2 oldies in the itunes chart, not sure why, but it gives me an excuse to re-chart their best single Heart & Soul from 1987, leaving just one more oldie returning following the sad death of Nick Kamen, the former male model captured the hearts of many boys & girls in 1986 by getting his kit off in a laundromat advert for Levi 501's, including Madonna who gifted him this song to kick off his music career. 1 NEW 1 1 THE ‘IN’ CROWD - Hey John!
LazyBaby shooting up your chart Jeezo. I am starting to tire of it though. Starstruck top 10 yass. This makes me very happy I absolutely adore Love Is A Battlefield! Why are you charting it? Out of curiousity. Jessie Ware in at #63. Slay. I have a hunch it will climb faster here than on my chart but I think it will peak higher for me. Great chart! |

Glad Starstruck climbing makes you happy - me too Love Is A Battlefield made the itunes top 200 the other week - not quite sure why, sales are so low oldies regularly get into that rolling rundown following ads or film slots or a big radio 2 play. But it helps top up its total "sales" which are lower than it deserves I think you will be right about Jessie Ware, sounding good in the car Saturday though when I played it loud Cheers! |

Thanks for the list! Deja Vu is a goodie isn't it? Lissie is 2 tracks short of appearing in my Greatest Hits 21st Century rundown, so far, but these are her charting tracks up to 2020, she's always good, and has a voice like honey: 6 11 WHEN I'M ALONE Lissie 364200 2010 28 6 CUCKOO Lissie 66700 2010 24 6 SLEEPWALKING Lissie 91450 2013 26 5 FURTHER AWAY (ROMANCE POLICE) Lissie 57100 2013 14 8 WILD WEST Lissie 119300 2016 1 17 BEST DAYS Lissie 917550 2018 24 7 CRAZY GIRL Lissie 105900 2018 35 8 MEET ME IN THE MYSTERY Lissie 94700 2018 42 6 CASTLES Lissie 84250 2018 I wasn't born in summer '91, but I'm struggling to remember much about it myself I know I had a Florida holiday that year and was studying for Horticultural qualifications on work-based one-day release to College at the time - but not a lot else springs to mind! Didn't know Max Martin had a hand in the Coldplay track! Not sure it's among their very best stuff, but it's boppy enough I guess... I also like that Billie Eilish (and bruvver) don;t go for the obvious pop hit and do what they feel, tender and sad if that's what they are feeling. T'Pau are decent generally, and I like Carol Decker a lot, but TBH The first 2 hits are the classics, the rest are just bonuses. Cheers! |
