I noticed there wasn't a thread for the Vanaroma National League and a non-league thread.

This is the topic for anything about non-league clubs or your local team.

With 3 games into the season. It looks like this in the National League:

Monumentally, North Ferriby United made it into the Conference last season. When you compare the size of the village against the likes of York and Chester etc., it really is a magnificent achievement. Financially the cannot compete with other teams in their division but that also means that the pressure is off. Picked up our first win of the season tonight in a 3-2 victory over Guiseley.

I really can't overstate how much of a mismatch it is for them in this division - but this is also the team who won the FA Trophy a few years ago, so anything can happen. I remember about 5-6 years ago watching Ferriby beat Fleetwood in the Conference North and look how well they are doing now!

And they continued with another win today.

I am hoping Gateshead go up from here, they have been near the promotion play offs in recent seasons.

Posted by: Mack 30th August 2016, 11:50 AM

Already Eastleigh & Guiseley have both sacked their managers.

Posted by: Flatcap 31st August 2016, 07:57 PM

The managerial merry go round has started then.

Any unexpected performers from the start so far for anyone? I am a tad surprised at Lincoln doing better than they have done in recent seasons.

Poole Town (a few miles from me) have made an impressive start in Conference South after being promoted last season. They lost their first game rather badly, but have done well since then. As a former Woking season ticket holder, I'm disappointed with their start in the Conference National though.

Sutton United have made a good start for me.

Hopefully this will be the season that Forest Green finally get promoted to the Football League. Top of the league so far.

Chester are 4pts off the play offs. I am living for our current run of form.

Posted by: Flatcap 13th October 2016, 06:00 PM

Gary Mills sacked at Wrexham.

I assume they are one of the few teams not to have ever been in the league?

Yes, Forest Green Rovers have never played in the Football League.

As well as Eastleigh, Dover Athletic, Gateshead, the reformed Chester, Boreham Wood, Sutton, Solihull Moors, Bromley, Maidstone United, Woking, Braintree Town, North Ferriby United, Guiseley.

Posted by: Severin 14th October 2016, 11:39 AM

The old Maidstone Utd did play in the league however.
Most people in the area don't make a distinction since the team was taken over by the same people within days of the original collapsing even if is technically a different club

What a season so far for Lincoln City, top of the league and in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.

Will be nice to see if they advance to the semis.....I like an underdog team that does well...

Posted by: Mack 27th February 2017, 01:15 PM

Sutton United had to play an outfield player in goal after their goalkeeper got injured during their match against Torquay.

That would be something for definite, unlikely with who they got.

It'll be great to see Lincoln hopefully back in the Football League.

A match between Didcot Town and Hereford was abandoned due to crowd trouble:

Lincoln City are up, what an amazing season for this club. Last play off place seems to be between Aldershot and Dover. Dover has a game in hand. Last two relegation places to be decided as well.

Posted by: Mack 4th May 2017, 11:38 AM

Who would you want to see get promoted to League Two with the play-offs:

Tranmere Rovers
Aldershot
Forest Green
Dagenham & Redbridge

Posted by: Dobbo 4th May 2017, 06:25 PM

Forest Green out of those.

Posted by: Flatcap 4th May 2017, 07:58 PM

I would like Tranmere out of those to go up.

Posted by: Mack 7th May 2017, 01:14 PM

Tranmere through to the playoff final with victory over Aldershot.

Posted by: Mack 7th May 2017, 09:18 PM

Forest Green and Tranmere then in the play off final.

Posted by: Steve201 7th May 2017, 11:00 PM

Nice hope Forest Greeb get a spell in the league - when have they ever been in the league!?

Posted by: Mack 15th May 2017, 07:49 AM

And Forest Green did it, and are in League Two. I think they are the smallest in population to reach the Football League.

Posted by: Mack 15th May 2017, 12:01 PM

Yes with a population of 5,794, Nailsworth will be the smallest place to ever have an EFL club.

Posted by: Dobbo 15th May 2017, 04:07 PM

Absolutely amazing achievement and as a plus it's great to see another local side in the league!

Posted by: OutstandingMixer 15th May 2017, 07:13 PM

Great to see Forest Green in the Football League. Hopefully they can do the double against Swindon next season laugh.gif

Posted by: Steve201 15th May 2017, 09:28 PM

Great achievement!

Posted by: Rooney 15th May 2017, 10:06 PM

Forest Green can get screwed! One of my least favourite clubs, if you have ever supported a team that's been in the Conference at any point you will know why!

I've played youth football in Nailsworth, really is a tiny place that's incredibly hard to get to. laugh.gif

Great to see them promoted!

I have to back up the dislike of Forest Green.

However, as a Chester fan I'm glad they won because we could really do with the money the two derbies against Tranmere always produces.
