Darius Campbell will return to the West End production of Chicago as Billy Flynn when the production reopens at the Garrick Theatre on November 7. Campbell will star opposite previously announced leading ladies America Ferrera as Roxie Hart and Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly.

Campbell previously appeared in Chicago in 2006. His other West End credits include Guys and Dolls and Gone With the Wind. Campbell is the recent winner of TV's Popstar to Operastar and made his opera debut in Carmen with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The cast of Chicago will also feature James Doherty as Amos Hart, Jasna Ivir as Mama Morton and R. Whitehead as Mary Sunshine.

About to enter its 15th year in London, the revival of John Kander and Fred Ebb's Chicago originally opened at the Adelphi Theatre on November 18, 1997. The show recently went on a brief hiatus when it closed on August 27 at the Cambridge Theatre.

From Here to Eternity

Darius Campbell (he used to be known as Darius Danesh from Pop Idol), who will play one of the lead roles in the musical version of From Here To Eternity.

It’s a tale of army life and sexual shenanigans, set on Hawaii as the war in the Pacific kicks off. Campbell will play Sergeant Milton Warden, a tough, buff guy who has an affair with the wife of a superior officer.

In Fred Zinnemann’s classic movie, those roles were played by Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr. They were giant roles on the big screen, so I should make clear that this show is based on the James Jones novel, which is much darker than the film.

Darius has a thing about being in musical versions of famous novels and movies — he also played Rhett Butler in Gone With The Wind. From Here To Eternity has lyrics and a lot of input from Tim Rice, so it should fare better than GWTW, which went with a gust.

Rehearsals for the new show start in late August, with previews beginning at the Shaftesbury Theatre on September 30.
