I started this on a new thread cos it would just have got lost in the Shakira-fezzzzzt of the original topic.
3.9m viewers must be a record for BBC2 on a Sunday night. I think it would have been at least 6m if it had been put on BBC1. |

I don't get it, it weren't really the end if they're putting it on channel 4.

I really reckon they'll bring it back, albeit not for a few years. There's an Xmas special coming anyway...

Millions watch last ever TOTP
Source: MW Top Of The Pops last night secured one of its biggest audiences in years as nearly 4m people tuned into the last ever show. The veteran BBC music programme, which was calling it a day after more than 42 years on air, attracted 3.9m viewers to a one-hour special being broadcast on BBC2. Since the show switched channels last July from BBC1 the programme had averaged only around 1m viewers. Unconsolidated viewing figures also show 21% of the watching audience tuned into the show, which brought back a number of the show's past presenters, including its first host Jimmy Savile, Dave Lee Travis and Mike Read. The programme included montages of performances from TOTP decade-by-decade plus 10 classic performances in full, including I Got You Babe by Sonny & Cher, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go by Wham! and Crazy In Love by Beyonce. A documentary on the programme, Top Of the Pops: the True Story, which was broadcast later the same night on BBC2, won 2.8m viewers and an 18% audience share between 10 and 11.10pm. It was followed in the schedules by Pan's People: Digging the Dancing Queens, which celebrated the programme's famous dance troupe and attracted 1.9 viewers and an 18% share. |

the BBC should be ashamed that it now only has ONE music show - Jools Holland. Unbelievable.
Perhaps they could find more time in their schedules for TOTP if they quit relentlessly repeating EVERY show they have.... check the TV guides... the 'R' for repeat is after almost EVERY BBC show, especially daytimes..... |
