i agree.... eldorado had the making of a superb soap and at times showed just how good it could be...but then was ruined by some bad actors and some dire scripts.

ive always liked the 'bad guys' in a soap.... den watts, j.r.ewing and eldorado had marcus tandy, jesse birdsall played the character fantastically.

got it now!

Naked Jungle number one, minipops number two.

oh well its all the usual suspects then  , think the radio times could have just cut and pasted it from a channel 4 poll of the other year.

and the star says naked jungle was axed after 1 show, like how its twisting the truth again to make it sound more drastic like in the big brother/itv article the other week. surely only a complete dickwad controler would commision a full run of a show as bizarre as this in the uk (in Germany maybe its primetime? laugh.gif)

and where was dare to believe???

was everybody out spotting otters at that time!!!!

Dare To Believe
UK, ITV (The Children's Company/Dare To Believe), Sketch, colour, 2002

Starring: Mark Crossfield, Chris England, Paul Simpkin

A surreal sketch show in which a large cast performed an array of skits few of which were meant to be funny in the accepted TV comedy sense. Rather, with its chill-out music, frequent repetition and bizarre juxtapositions, the show was most likely to be appreciated by anyone removed from the present by means herbal or alcoholic, which - with its Friday-night twilight zone placement in the schedules - is probably what it got.

Although a few of the sketches were based on familiar themes - spoof TV commercials, odd apology notices and the like - most of the 13 shows comprised wacky, in themselves unfunny ideas that could only be humorous after seemingly endless revisits. An odd mixture then, and a show which slipped past without receiving - or especially meriting - much attention.

The principal guiding light behind Dare To Believe was Tim Scott, who appears elsewhere in this book under the name Tim de Jongh. As part of the team that made the BBC Radio 4 comedy And Now, In Colour (piloted on TV as It's A Mad World, World, World, World, surreal comedy is obviously his forte. His colleague from that show, Tim Firth (see Cut And Run and Once Upon A Time In The North was involved again here, as was the celebrated horror and sci-fi author Michael Marshall Smith

this was the kind of joke you would get on the show

So have we another person who knows of Dare To Believe then?

At least there is one good thing to come out of Quizmania/The Mint being on over night (even though I would love the Entertainment programe that was also on Friday nights to come back)

lets hope that ITV4 doesnt decide to repeat that c**p in between Letterman and Clerks sick2.gif

well it was terrible and a long wait from the late night film to the entertainement programme via this show,

so bad i think the bbc should just get rid of it from the comedy guide!!

so bad in fact even someone taking a dump on screen for half and hour would be make a better programme (well except the director of American History X and least one contestant of the new Flavor Flav show has done something like this already, but you get how bad the show was)

Yeah Marcus Tandy was great, had that suaveness about him but also menacing too, loved that Renault of his too smile.gif Polly Perkins was great in it too as was Derek Martin who was Marcus' boss and now plays Charlie in Eastenders and add the likes of Bunny into the mix it had potential to be a great soap, I agree there too with your other point, some of those Scandanavian characters were absolutely dire

I think the BBC dumped Eldorado far too early it had potential

should have invested in the show sooner then axe it, it was that alan yentob who axed it... bstd.

It was utterly dire when it started out with Ardal O' Hanlon, but they've actually done the impossible now, and made it even WORSE with Ardal's replacement..... laugh.gif laugh.gif

Laughable, for all the wrong reasons....

Yep, My Hero gets on my list too....
