Ed Sheeran is looking to occupy the top 2 positions for a 5th week, close behind Dua Lipa could finish inside the top 5 by the end of the week with 'Be The One'. New single releases from Stormzy 'Big For Your Boots', Imagine Dragons 'Believer', London Grammar 'Big Picture', Mariah Carey feat YG 'I Don't', Ariana Grande & John Legend 'Beauty & The Beast' and Depeche Mode 'Where's the Revolution'. With new peaks for Train 'Play That Song' (excuse the Train puns sleep.gif ) and Izzy Bizzu 'Talking To You'.

Elbow should easily grab the #1 album next week with their new release 'Little Fictions' other new album releases from Big Sean 'I Decided', Sampha 'Process', Lower Than Atlantis 'Safe in Sound' and Black Star Riders 'Heavy Fire'.

Be The One to go top 10 this week hopefully!

Posted by: liamk97 Feb 4 2017, 01:09 PM

Here's hoping Elbow can push the #1 album above 25k sales. Having a look their previous first week sales, Build a Rocket Boys! (2011) opened with 78,177 copies and The Take Off and Landing of Everything opened with 46,211 copies - about a 40% drop so, to experience that percentage decrease again, this album should just make it passed the 25k mark. I suspect the decrease could be less given that Build a Rocket Boys! was off the back of the huge success of The Seldom Seen Kid which would account for the big first week sales.

I think Lower Than Atlantis could start off very high in the midweeks and, with such low sales right now, could easily hold on to a Top 5 placing (I'm expecting about 7k/8k).

Elbow has already sold what I thought they would for the week! Sold just over 3k yesterday too.

Posted by: Mart!n Feb 6 2017, 01:40 PM

I think Little Mix could go top 5 (currently at #7), BSR and LTA are hardly selling, but the former might just stay inside the top 5.

Posted by: RoosterSeize Feb 6 2017, 01:56 PM

Looks like Elbow's opening sale won't be too much less than 'The Take Off' managed, that's pretty great!

I assume Stormzy will finish #11/12 on Friday, still quite a lot higher than I would've envisioned him getting

Posted by: timjimlee Feb 6 2017, 02:40 PM

Great Sales for Elbow's Album so far, can't help feeling that the appearance on "The Graham Norton show" has lifted Sales so far, their performance of "Magnificent (She Says)" was sublime!

Posted by: Hadji Feb 6 2017, 02:46 PM

Hope Stormzy and Dua Lipa can hang onto top 10 and for Train to hang onto top 40

Posted by: Bjork Feb 6 2017, 03:08 PM

wow at Elbow, impressive!

was expecting Be the One and Zayn/Taylor to be a bit higher, hope they climb during the week

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds Feb 6 2017, 04:32 PM

Surprised at Train being that low! Spotify must really be hindering its progress sad.gif

Posted by: mdh Feb 6 2017, 04:48 PM

wow at Stormzy! Also good to see three songs break into the top 10 for the first time, although I'd assume Stormzy will miss out on it by the end of the week which is a shame, but I can hope.

Posted by: liamk97 Feb 6 2017, 06:17 PM

Music Week have posted the midweeks so I've added the more precise sales to the update, which also includes sales for Stormzy's single.

Good sales so far For Elbow, after that thought they are frighteningly low!

Posted by: omrimayo Feb 6 2017, 08:43 PM

So happy for Elbow, the others not that exiting for me this week.

It certainly is. Only 10% of its total is made of streaming - the lowest %age for any song in the top 100.

Those are very impressive sales for Elbow! Fab to see Sampha in the top 10 at the moment as well, he's really taken his time to actually release an album lol.

Stormzy coming for that third top 20 hit :cheeseblock:

I get the feeling Stormzy will pull a Bizzle & finish the week at #11 sad.gif (still amazing of course for a grime song!)

Not fussed on any of the other entries but happy to see Garrix on the climb.

Only Stormzy has charted in the Top 10 with an actual grime song I think. Loads have had longevity without being truly reflected in the chart though!

Yeah I think you're right! I guess the closest before then was Wiley's Can You Hear Me but that wasn't 'pure' grime per sé, I did adore that back then though & still do now wub.gif

Posted by: Steve201 Feb 6 2017, 11:56 PM

Surely Wearing My Rolex was pure grime??😜

It was grime meets electro wasn't it, 'Wearing My Rolex'.

Posted by: mdh Feb 7 2017, 08:41 AM

I hope that what with streaming playing a bigger part in the charts now, we'll see loads of Stormzy's album tracks in the official top 40. How good would that be wub.gif

I wonder if Katy Perry can dethrone Ed Sheeran next week, but #2 will be doable I should imagine, with COTH breaking away.

Posted by: mdh Feb 7 2017, 05:31 PM

I think Katy will come close to Ed, definitely not writing her off just yet! If the song is good enough it could be #1.

Posted by: cqmerqn Feb 7 2017, 05:33 PM

Great for Lady Gaga!

I can't see Katy debuting top 10 tbh

Posted by: Tinasha Feb 7 2017, 05:34 PM

Katy should manage top 5 if the song is instantly added to spotify and it's GOOD.

Posted by: Bjork Feb 7 2017, 05:41 PM

hope KP learns from past mistakes (i.e. Apple Streaming exclusives do not work) and it's more Roar/Dark Horse than Rise/Unconditionally smile.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles Feb 7 2017, 05:46 PM

I'd be very surprised if Katy did an Apple exclusive again, it was a massive mistake last time (plus the fact Rise wasn't that strong a song anyway). I think Katy can debut top 5 at least, she's not disappointed with a lead single so far imo so I've got a lot of faith in this being a smash.

Posted by: ___∆___ Feb 7 2017, 05:49 PM

Yes at Gaga getting 2 Top 40 album entires - much needed sales boost for 'Joanne', I hope she has a further single planned to keep up momentum.

Posted by: SKOB Feb 7 2017, 05:53 PM

I don't think Rise was much of a single though, it was more garnered towards the Rio Olympics which didn't really catch on over here. Hopefully a track like Roar could actually take off, plus she has the Grammy performance, a few days later, not sure how much of an effect it will do over here though.

Grammy's should have some effect. Side To Side got an performed on an American award show (VMAs??) and helped it take off.

Stormzy looking very good for a Top 10 debut, and considering there were only 15 of these last year (the lowest since 1986 since you didn't ask) that makes it a very impressive achievement indeed.

Posted by: scratchy23 Feb 7 2017, 08:28 PM

I have every faith that Katy's single will be an absolute banger. #1 won't happen I don't think but should debut top 10 at least

Posted by: Steve201 Feb 7 2017, 11:37 PM

One Dance is gonna be no38 again is t it?

Posted by: SKOB Feb 8 2017, 09:01 AM

Will be interesting to watch how Katy's new single succeeds as she is pure POP. From what I've heard from snippets she hasn't changed that much and the single is produced by Max Martin. Can Katy score a monster hit on streaming or will she end up like Gaga who is struggling with the streaming audience despite still having big success in her core fanbase?

Posted by: Tinasha Feb 8 2017, 11:12 AM

I'm actually thinking Katy will debut top 2 now. I think she's coming out guns-a-blazing.

Posted by: mdh Feb 8 2017, 05:46 PM

Sia's on writing credits too, all the signs are there that it'll be a total banger.

Any chance of Taylor/Zayn getting higher?

No other sales info for today but going off yesterday, it was looking like they might switch with Dua!

EDIT: Just seen extra info and that's still looking likely heehee.gif

Does it look like Imagine Dragons will stay top 40?

EDIT - nvm, but do you think they will anyway?

Joanne coming for its second best position to date?

Good album sales for Elbow.

As for Shape Of You could be looking at between 80k to 85k for the week, I think Katy Perry could be in with a chance if her new track is actually good, she could easily smash it, she probably need around 80k to 85k+. to secure a #1 next week.

Was expecting Train to drop like a led balloon but not although their streaming is picking up so top 40 is most likely and top 30 if we're lucky and I don't want Dua being pushed out the top 10 by that Zaylor dross

Pleased to see Lady Gaga back at #16 but also disappointing that she is not higher considering 5k is enough for Top 5. I was hopeful the positive press coverage would push her back into the Top 10 - it almost feels as if her star has totally faded in the UK nocheer.gif

The best sales for a #1 album so far this year, although that's not saying much. rolleyes.gif
