BuzzJack Music Forum _ P!nk _ Pink to be awarded Outstanding Contribution to Music Award

Posted by: crazycatlady Feb 6 2019, 10:26 PM

She follows the likes of Elton John, the Spice Girls and the late David Bowie in collecting the honour

Pink will be honoured at the 2019 BRIT Awards with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award.

The award has not been presented at the BRITs since 2012, when Blur were the recipients. Other previous winners of the prize include Sir Elton John, the Spice Girls and the late David Bowie.

“I am so honoured to be recognised with the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award at the 2019 BRITs!” Pink said in a statement. “Since the beginning of my career the British fans have been some of the most fierce and loyal in the world. I am humbled to receive this honour and be in the company of an illustrious group of British icons!”

The artist, who will be the first international musician to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award, will close the 2019 BRIT Awards with a special live performance.

“Pink is a trailblazer, a phenomenally talented singer and songwriter, and truly one of the greatest artists of our time,” BRITs Chairman Jason Iley said. “It is a real pleasure to honour her at this year’s BRIT Awards with the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award.

“With her remarkable career spanning nearly 20 years, Pink is one of the most successful artists in the world, consistently releasing multi-million-selling albums and selling out tours all over the globe. I am really excited to welcome her back to The BRITs and to recognise her prodigious success.”

Wow amazing news!!

What a day for P!nk news smile.gif

That's amazing for her!

Posted by: SKOB Feb 7 2019, 07:41 AM

WTF she's not British, I thought this particular award was for British only and thus haven't been given on a yearly basis.

Posted by: crazycatlady Feb 7 2019, 07:51 AM

She is the first international artist to be given this award, I was surprised to see she is getting it too as she is not British, but its great that she's getting the recognition she deserves this week. Now all she needs is to win this grammy heart.gif

Posted by: SKOB Feb 7 2019, 09:39 AM

Yeah I like her so not mad, it's just... very odd and gives an impression that they are starting to give this award to anyone who's been around 10+ years and is willing to come to the UK to sing a couple of songs.

Posted by: T Boy Feb 7 2019, 06:10 PM

Technically she is not the first international act to win this. U2 won in 2001.

This is absolutely phenomenal news! I can’t believe it’s only her second award at the Brits-and what an award to win! I’m loving all this great Pink news at the moment!

Posted by: gavindeejay Feb 7 2019, 11:16 PM

Amazing news! Well deserved imo!

Posted by: crazycatlady Feb 8 2019, 07:55 AM

Forgot about U2. I don't really take much notice of the Brit awards tbh so when I saw a lot of articles saying she's the first international artist to win this award I assumed they were right laugh.gif

Would have preferred this award to go to someone like Kylie Minogue, but very happy for Pink

Posted by: Liаm Feb 8 2019, 07:13 PM

This is so deserved! She never gets the credit she fully deserves, she's never really had a flop era and is such a talent who always brings it. I hope this coincides with one of her big performances that show exactly she deserves this at the end of the show biggrin.gif

Posted by: Dexton Feb 9 2019, 12:20 PM

She so deserves this!

Posted by: T Boy Feb 9 2019, 03:33 PM

I’m fed up of justifying it to the posters in the chart forum. It doesn’t matter that she’s not British, it also doesn’t matter who else deserves it. Pink definitely does deserve it. The first 20 years of her career have been amazing.

Posted by: crazycatlady Feb 9 2019, 04:55 PM

Thats why I've not posted in that thread laugh.gif I've read some of it, but I've never been drawn into online debates, I just can't be arsed with it laugh.gif You're never going to please all the people all the time, so I don't care if people think she doesn't deserve it, or that she shouldn't get it because she's not British etc. In my opinion she more than deserves this award, I love all the attention she is getting for it and the fact that people are talking about her.

I do wonder what people's reaction would be if another female international artist had been awarded this though, would there still be all the hate? thinking.gif

Anyway, who cares. Pink is gonna kick ass at this years brits. I only wish I was able to go!

Posted by: T Boy Feb 9 2019, 04:58 PM

I just find it funny that people are always saying she deserves more recognition and then complaining when she does get some laugh.gif

The GH snuck back into the top 100 this week. I hope the Brits could send it straight up the upper reaches!

Posted by: crazycatlady Feb 20 2019, 06:21 PM

Hope tonight goes well 😃 gutted I won’t be able to watch it live, but I will be able to watch it later in the night. Can’t wait to see everything!

Posted by: crazycatlady Feb 20 2019, 07:15 PM

She will be performing five songs in ten minutes, including walk me home 😃

Posted by: T Boy Feb 20 2019, 07:55 PM

I really hope she does Who Knew!

Posted by: T Boy Feb 20 2019, 10:01 PM

Her speech was amazing, I love this woman. Can’t wait for the performance!

Posted by: T Boy Feb 20 2019, 10:29 PM

The performance was incredible! It was a shame she only did the newer hits but she’s such a great performer and they’re such good songs!

Posted by: Theonix Feb 20 2019, 11:07 PM

Her performance was absolutely outstanding, especially Try, but I am disappointed that we didn't hear any of her earlier hits. Just Like Fire is hardly a song I would associate with P!nk's legacy as an artist, although I can't deny that she sold the shit out of it tonight

I would have actually cut Just Give Me a Reason for a pre-10s song, Dan is a woeful vocalist and it's not exactly a vocal highlight for P!nk herself either

Managed to watch most of this at work last night (and again on the bus on the way home), but I'm way too sleepy now to write about it. So when I get up this afternoon I'm going to watch it again and write about it...or maybe tomorrow, I feel like I could sleep for a week! laugh.gif

It was incredible being there to see it, I'd been wanting to see her perform live for about 17 years so to get a taste of it was a real moment.

Posted by: crazycatlady Feb 22 2019, 07:57 AM

I'm so proud of Pink at the moment, everything that is happening, from the star to this performance, its incredible that she is still going so strong and just seems to be getting more recognition.

I haven't watched the Brits for years, I don't really have any interest in new music and wouldn't have even considered watching it this year if Pink wasn't on it, but I had to start work at 9:30pm, so at 10 I went to hide somewhere so I could hopefully watch it on my phone, I just got there in time for her performance to start, so I missed her speech, then someone came into the room I was in, so I had to quickly put my phone away and I went to find somewhere else to hide laugh.gif I missed the last part of JGMAR and most of Try. I managed to watch the whole performance and speech on my way home, then watched it again in the evening after some sleep.

The performance was one of her best, the only thing I didn't like about it was the lack of songs from earlier on in her career. Of course the performance of WMH was pre-recorded, but it was good to see it 'live' and I really hope she performs it on tours. I didn't get why she performed JLF. It is a good song, but I don't get why she added it to this medley. I'll share what I think she should've performed later in this post. I get why JGMAR was performed, its one of her biggest hits but I'm kinda tired of hearing it, and I admit I didn't have a clue who Dan was laugh.gif When he came out I was like who the f**k is he, I didn't recognise him or his voice, I did wonder if she just pulled a fan out the audience laugh.gif He was ok, but nothing special. Pink clearly likes him though, and I loved how she let him have his moment and how she looked at him.
TRY was probably one of the best performances I have ever seen her do. The visuals were amazing. I have seen stuff like that done before (I think on AGT auditions, but not sure) and always loved watching things like that. If she brings something like that to her tours I would be so happy to see it live. Try was probably my favourite part of the performance...closely followed by the performance of WAU. I love the choreography in the performances of this track, and you can tell she really really means the messages that this song brings out.

If I was to change the performance I would probably have picked these tracks:
Walk me home
So what (she could've done the flying through the arena routine)
Just like a pill
Try
What about us

I wouldn't have changed that much really, just added so what and JLAP. How do you fit a 20 year career in ten minutes laugh.gif I also feel like she spent too long on JGMAR, if she had shortened that, either by performing on her own or having Dan only join her on the chorus, she could've probably fit in another song.

Posted by: T Boy Feb 22 2019, 05:38 PM

I wish they’d given her 10 songs instead. She could have kept everything and added So What, Just Like A Pill, Who Knew, Trouble and There You Go to cover every era.

Her performance was fab and she really commanded and owned the stage. When she broke into the whole dance routine of What About Us after the exertion she'd already put in I was a little gobsmacked. The woman is a born entertainer and always puts in 110% effort for the people who've paid to come and see her - unlike so many in the industry.

Will have to go and see her again myself. I'm still shook that I was once within 6 feet of her :')

E: and I was thrilled that she sung Try! One of my favourites by her or perhaps my favourite. Her late discography is so strong and consistent compared to nearly everyone else from her generation of women singers.
