Exactly, but this release strategy will become less and less effective as download sales continue to collapse. The SCHADENFREUDE at this is very satisfying though. Years of utter bollox getting to #1 when it has no actual popularity is finally coming to an end. Not sure any #1 has ever had no popularity. You have a point though it's a lot harder for anyone to manipulate the chart in the current climate, which is fair game! |

Not sure any #1 has ever had no popularity. Exactly. One week long number one's is the best thing the British chart has ever delivered. They have all deserved their place thanks to having outsold all other records in those particular weeks and we all know that punctual success doesn't translate to a long-term popularity. For that we have year-end charts after all. Nowadays the chart is simply boring. btw. who's that Jamie Lawson? His song is pretty decent to be fair. |

Sales have been terrible this year because of streaming AND the complete lack of awareness by record companies that holding back releases has harmed sales. But we get the last laugh! (See: Anton Powers demoted from 1 to 4 last week) I don't agree that holding back has harmed sales at all. That argument made sense 10 or 15 years ago when records had 8 weeks build-up and then 4 weeks in the top 40. But now singles held back for ages still stay on the chart for ages when they are released. |

Justin Bieber at 1, R City at 2, Naughty Boy at 3. Less than 4K between them: http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/j...-single__11016/

Naughty Boy proving to be another perfect example of how a big OA/OS release is done!

Last week's midweek #1 has dropped to er, number 53 (!)
Jamie Lawson at 5, slipping from 3 on Saturday despite being at #1 on iTunes with a fairly decent lead.. |

Hope R City can deny that idiot a fifth week at the top by Friday. JB remaining at the top is pure embarrassment to the music industry and this country

Last week's midweek #1 has dropped to er, number 53 (!) Poor Vamps, they'll drop to even lower than that by Friday unless airplay picks up Looks like 5SOS will miss the Top 40 too. Good to see 'Love Me Like You' on the climb again though This post has been edited by Mango: 12th October 2015, 04:55 PM |

Justin Bieber at number one again? these are lacklustre times for the charts. I don't pay as much attention to the official chart now as I used to years ago because of stale things like this happening regularly.

I only trust the Saturday midweeks so far anyway to be fair, Naughty Boy seemed to plummet from the top 5 to #10 within 2 days too. Hope R City can deny that idiot a fifth week at the top by Friday Please grow up. |
