- Will AIWFCIY will finally be a Christmas #1? Will a special campaigning be made for its 25th anniversary?
- Or instead will Last Christmas finally be a Christmas #1, given its 35th anniversary and the release of the movie of the same name? - Will there be more than 25 Christmas songs in the top 40 Christmas chart? - Will Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer (40th anniversary this year) this year finally chart in the UK? - Will Adele/Rihanna/Sia release anything? - Will another unknown-ish Whitney Houston have a new treatment by Kygo or another producer dujour? - Does Ed Sheeran have a trick on his sleeve concerning the Christmas chart? - Could Billie Eilish/Khalid's Lovely get a new push? (X-Factor or likewise) - Will the X-Factor All Stars winner single have some kind of chart impact? - Could there be a Band Aid-ish all-star charity single for the environment or other cause? - Or just another boring collective choir cover? - Will AIWFCIY will finally be a Christmas #1? Will a special campaigning be made for its 25th anniversary? Nope
- Or instead will Last Christmas finally be a Christmas #1, given its 35th anniversary and the release of the movie of the same name? See above - Will there be more than 25 Christmas songs in the top 40 Christmas chart? Quite possibly given what day Xmas falls on this year! - Will Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer (40th anniversary this year) this year finally chart in the UK? Na - Will Adele/Rihanna/Sia release anything? Sia I think will but not the other 2 - Will another unknown-ish Whitney Houston have a new treatment by Kygo or another producer dujour? Hope not, one's enough for this year - Does Ed Sheeran have a trick on his sleeve concerning the Christmas chart? Is the Pope catholic? - Could Billie Eilish/Khalid's Lovely get a new push? (X-Factor or likewise) Hopefully not - Will the X-Factor All Stars winner single have some kind of chart impact? Probably a similar effect to Dalton last season - Could there be a Band Aid-ish all-star charity single for the environment or other cause? Hmmm perhaps but don't think it'll be a contender - Or just another boring collective choir cover? Sky Bet aren't even taking odds |

Mariah could do it but because of the chart rules introduced last year only half of her streams will actually count.
despite that last year she almost beat Ava Max to the number one (she’s have been number one very easily otherwise) |

there’s a section about it in the pinned FAQ. basically because the song’s old only half the streams count to give newer songs an advantage.

That hasn't changed since the Christmas chart last year though, only half her streams counted when she fell just 152 sales short of number one last year. With that in mind, with an extra day of pre-Christmas rather than post-Christmas streams in the week this year I expect to see either AIWFCIY or Last Christmas as the number one on the 27th December chart unless there's a huge track to stop it.

I reckon Ed Sheeran will have something ready for Christmas and he’ll beat Mariah by virtue of not being on ACR.
Mariah just seems destined to never go number one with this. If that happens he’ll be the true Grinch that stole Christmas. |

If he does, he'd be going for the Christmas number one (which I also don't think he will since he's already achieved it now with Perfect). Because of the extra day of pre-Christmas streams in place of post-Christmas streams for the 27th Dec chart this year I think that would not only mean less streams for Ed (or indeed whatever the big new release was) during that period but also more for the Christmas songs.

but what if Ed releases an original Christmas song? he’s already written at least one (for Matt Terry) and it would be a very easy extra money earner for him every year as the GP laps up anything he releases.
I’m surprised more current artists aren’t trying to get in on the action seeing as due to streaming Christmas tracks will do well every single year until the end of time. |

Mariah should release a new version of the song, the 25th anniversary edition, and promote it, and then the label could ask for a reset
but actually I think she could be #1 even on ACR unless streams pick up, Dance Monkey is gonna be #1 this week with very low sales, probably not even 40k |

Did someone not say in the new release thread last week that Mariah was releasing a 25th anniversary cd and cassette version of AIWFCIY in the last week of November?
Would this not count as a new push? At any rate even if she does not get the Xmas No1 she could easily get to No1 in any given week in December given how huge streams were from November 25th onwards for Xmas hits. |

GAH.
I’m dreading Xmas week chart this year. There really needs to be something done it’s ridiculous seeing the amount of tracks completely drop out the chart the following week and all the re entries too next week. There should be a a seperate chart in December called “The Holiday Chart” or something used for Christmas tracks what are over 5 years old. Every year it’s literally the same old same old. By all means count the sales / streams and add them to their official chart totals but the Christmas charts gotten horrific since streaming took over. This year will be worse with most ACR songs probabaly getting a 25% boost the week after Xmas so the following week will be a mess too with them all re entering
I actually don’t mind it, it’s fine seeing the chart very messy for just one or two weeks a year |
