Now that we have reached the end of 2019 and the decade as a whole which year is your favourite for music in this decade?

Went for 2010 although it's not been a great decade for music due to the Lack of indie!

I'm going for 2014 here, though 2013 was very close for me!

2010 for me, although 2011 - 2013 were wicked as well.

2011 - if just for Adele. The Saturday’s ‘On Your Radar’ and Nicola Roberts ‘Cinderella Eyes’ are pretty good.

Voted for 2014! Could not get enough of the dance revival in the chart at the time. 2013 was great too.

2018- but not for any mainstream releases apart from when the party’s over and nothing breaks like a heart. Caution, Dirty Computer, Golden Hour and Honey were the masterpieces of that year

Probably 2010 or 2014, followed closely by 2012 and 2013. This year has probably been the worst.

Went for 2013 - agreed 2019 has probably been the worst calendar year since 2007!

I would have to say 2010, with 2014 a close second. (Un)coincidentally the 2 best years for dance music in the charts.

For me it's definitely 2013. It was so varied with not one dominating trend, lots of great hits, the charts being fast-paced enough to be interesting but the deserving HUGE hits having longevity.

I miss that year a lot.

2016 was pure hell.

I’d have to do a closer analysis but for now I’ll say 2013. 2011-15 in general was really the peak of the decade in chart music for me.

It's really hard to decide, but maybe 2013. I loved the 2013 - 2016 period. 2012 was okay-ish as well. 2017-2019 seem to have been good, but I haven't really experienced these years for various reasons. I've heard some great hit songs from these years though, like Ladbroke Grove, Shape Of You, Cola, Sicko Mode, Piece Of Your Heart, Unforgettable.

In the past, the leap years used to be awesome musicwise (1984, 1988, 1996, 2000, 2008) but 2012 was rather weak (at least in comparison with 2011 and 2013) and 2016 was dreadful.

2013 for a few reasons:
* the huge sales climate especially during the spring and summer with Need U 100% > Get Lucky > La La La > Blurred Lines > Wake Me Up > I Love It all getting 100k+ a week IIRC.
* the House revival with Disclosure, Duke Dumont, Wankelmut, Breach etc. I much preferred that trend to the crap that took over in 2015 (Waves, Lost Frequencies etc).
* great Christmas originals such as One More Sleep and Underneath The Tree.
* Miley becoming an icon.
* Beyonce dropping Beyonce.
* Justin Timberlake's long overdue return.
* VMAs - Miley/Robin, JT medley, Same Love.
* Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead hitting #2. laugh.gif

2014 was the last year I enjoyed for chart music, I'd say 2011 was the best overall.

I’ve gone for 2010 in the end after realising how many of my favourite songs of the decade are from that year. It’s lucky I don’t use the charts/mainstream as my primary source for new music anymore, there’s very little I hate in the charts but also hardly anything I love...most stuff is just ‘there’.

As an avid chart fan as a teen you never think you’ll fall out of love with chart music but I think I can probably count on one hand songs that I love that have made the top 20 this year - Castles, Never Really Over, Don’t Call Me Up, Dance Monkey and Don’t Start Now, to be exact.

I’ve gone with 2011 mainly because Moves Like Jagger gave my chart interest a new lease of life but really any of the first four years. Pretty much every year of the 00s was better though.

The last half of the decade has been largely abysmal.
