Adele misses out on being the only artist with 3 solo albums in the list by ~30k.
19 is in roughly 62nd position I believe. |

The last all-time update in February 2014 didn't feature Jeff Wayne. Not a clue where he would've been before but looks like a number of people have discovered the album in the last two years Jeff Wayne was number 39 in the 2014 list (1) 1 GREATEST HITS QUEEN 1981 1 ~6.1 million (2) 2 GOLD - GREATEST HITS ABBA 1992 1 ~5.2 million (3) 3 SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND BEATLES 1967 1 ~5.1 million (4) 4 21 ADELE 2011 1 (5) 5 WHAT'S THE STORY MORNING GLORY OASIS 1995 1 ~4.7 million (6) 6 THRILLER MICHAEL JACKSON 1982 1 (7) 7 THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON PINK FLOYD 1973 2 (8) 8 BROTHERS IN ARMS DIRE STRAITS 1985 1 (9) 9 BAD MICHAEL JACKSON 1987 1 (10) 10 GREATEST HITS II QUEEN 1991 1 ~4 million (12) 11 RUMOURS FLEETWOOD MAC 1977 1 (11) 12 THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION MADONNA 1990 1 (13) 13 BACK TO BLACK AMY WINEHOUSE 2006 1 (14) 14 STARS SIMPLY RED 1991 1 (15) 15 COME ON OVER SHANIA TWAIN 1997 1 (18) 16 LEGEND BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS 1984 1 (16) 17 BACK TO BEDLAM JAMES BLUNT 2004 1 (17) 18 URBAN HYMNS VERVE 1997 1 (19) 19 BAT OUT OF HELL MEAT LOAF 1977 9 (24) 20 1 BEATLES 2000 1 (20) 21 BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER SIMON & GARFUNKEL 1970 1 (22) 22 DIRTY DANCING ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK 1987 4 (21) 23 SPIRIT LEONA LEWIS 2007 1 (25) 24 CRAZY LOVE MICHAEL BUBLE 2009 1 (23) 25 NO ANGEL DIDO 2000 1 (26) 26 WHITE LADDER DAVID GRAY 1998 1 (NE) 27 25 ADELE 2015 1 (27) 28 TALK ON CORNERS CORRS 1997 1 (28) 29 SPICE SPICE GIRLS 1996 1 (29) 30 THE FAME LADY GAGA 2008 1 (31) 31 A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD COLDPLAY 2002 1 (30) 32 LIFE FOR RENT DIDO 2003 1 (33) 33 ONLY BY THE NIGHT KINGS OF LEON 2008 1 (32) 34 BEAUTIFUL WORLD TAKE THAT 2006 1 (34) 35 HOPES AND FEARS KEANE 2004 1 (35) 36 THE JOSHUA TREE U2 1987 1 (39) 37 THE WAR OF THE WORLDS JEFF WAYNE 1978 5 (36) 38 SCISSOR SISTERS SCISSOR SISTERS 2004 1 (37) 39 BUT SERIOUSLY PHIL COLLINS 1989 1 (38) 40 X&Y COLDPLAY 2005 1 (40) 41 JAGGED LITTLE PILL ALANIS MORISSETTE 1995 1 42 TUBULAR BELLS MIKE OLDFIELD 1973 1 43 THE MAN WHO TRAVIS 1999 1 44 TRACY CHAPMAN TRACY CHAPMAN 1988 1 45 PARACHUTES COLDPLAY 2000 1 46 GREATEST HITS ABBA 1975 1 47 GREASE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK 1977 1 48 I'VE BEEN EXPECTING YOU ROBBIE WILLIAMS 1998 1 49 X ED SHEERAN 2014 1 50 COME AWAY WITH ME NORAH JONES 2002 1 51 GRACELAND PAUL SIMON 1986 1 52 THE SOUND OF MUSIC ORIGINAL CAST RECORDING 1965 1 53 LADIES & GENTLEMEN - THE BEST OF GEORGE MICHAEL 1998 1 54 TANGO IN THE NIGHT FLEETWOOD MAC 1987 1 55 THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP EMINEM 2000 1 56 SWING WHEN YOU'RE WINNING ROBBIE WILLIAMS 2001 1 57 PROGRESS TAKE THAT 2010 1 58 EYES OPEN SNOW PATROL 2006 1 59 NEVER FORGET - THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION TAKE THAT 2005 2 60 AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE REM 1992 1 |

I contributed 3 to that 100 million or so albums.
Oasis, Pink Floyd and Scissor Sisters. I've given each of them away. Still got Bridge Over Troubled Water on LP but I bought that second hand. Surprised Definitely Maybe and the first Arctic Monkeys album are not on that list - but it does tend to favour the follow ups rather than debuts and is, for the most part, a very, very boring list indeed. |

Are Music Club sales included for albums from the 80s and 90s?

I would guess that Definitely Maybe is 61/62 as it went 7x Platinum back in the days of shipment certifications, whereas Automatic for the People reached that mark this year. Unbelievably, Whatever People Say isn't even in the Top 50 sellers of the century. |

Boring music sells in huge quantities - look at Adele and Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith - the only ones to sell in vast quantities over the past two years. Elvis is very well too. |

I'm quite surprised that I own 34 of these - I didn't think I'd have that many! 21 on CD, 5 on Vinyl and the remaining 8 as downloads.

How has Automatic for the People sold more than Sing When You're Winning? AFTP only went 7x Platinum (2.1m) in February, whilst SWYW has passed 2.2m according to Music Week (and I seriously doubt much of that comes from streams). Has AFTP really sold over 100k that quickly?

Has AFTP really sold over 100k that quickly? That REM certification was part of a bulk update for albums among the best sellers; they hadn't actually passed the mark that week. |

The ones I own:
1 GREATEST HITS QUEEN 1981 1 ~6.1 million 2 GOLD - GREATEST HITS ABBA 1992 1 ~5.2 million 4 21 ADELE 2011 1 6 THRILLER MICHAEL JACKSON 1982 1 9 BAD MICHAEL JACKSON 1987 1 10 GREATEST HITS II QUEEN 1991 1 ~4 million 13 BACK TO BLACK AMY WINEHOUSE 2006 1 15 COME ON OVER SHANIA TWAIN 1997 1 23 SPIRIT LEONA LEWIS 2007 1 25 NO ANGEL DIDO 2000 1 27 25 ADELE 2015 1 30 THE FAME LADY GAGA 2008 1 32 LIFE FOR RENT DIDO 2003 1 41 JAGGED LITTLE PILL ALANIS MORISSETTE 1995 1 44 TRACY CHAPMAN TRACY CHAPMAN 1988 1 50 COME AWAY WITH ME NORAH JONES 2002 1 58 EYES OPEN SNOW PATROL 2006 1 I had some of the others in the 90s/early 2000s (Shania/Spice Girls etc), but have since lost the CDs. Shouldn't be too long until Adele has a 3rd entry on the list. If Adele releases a Christmas album as her next she could quite easily have 4 entries on the list in the near future. |
