Based off the playlist in the last few months, I'm going to guess we'll get the likes of flowerovlove, Elmeine, The Last Dinner Party, Strandz, CMAT, Gretel Hanlyn etc.

Wouldn't surprise me if they put Venbee and Jazzy on here, in spite of them both already having a top 10 single.

Think this might wind up being a year where the winner doesn't have a wildly successful year, it's hard to think right now who feels like they're on the verge of success. My guess would be The Last Dinner Party for the win, perhaps?

FLO have really left it too late at this point, all the critic hype has faded.

For dance, Hannah Laing will be nominated I think!

Also was thinking this, and maybe Issey Cross.

Clementine Douglas would be another promising name to consider.

That’s been most of them since Sigrid really though! Barring PinkPantheress of course and Celeste really.

Recently there always seems to be at least one name on there who feels way too big for the list already. Wouldn't surprise me if someone like Noah Kahan was on there maybe?

I don't even recognise the names of 2019 and 2021, they were clearly a bit wide of the mark on those

Octavian's "mainstream" career pretty much ended in 2020 when an ex-partner accused him of physical and emotional abuse. He offered her £20k to stay quiet, she didn't, and then his label dropped him not long before the release of his debut album 'Alpha'. It eventually released in 2022 but nobody cared by that point.

Pa Salieu is currently in prison, convicted of 'possessing a bottle as an offensive weapon & violent disorder' in a mass brawl so hasn't released much music in the last couple of years - https://www.nme.com/news/music/pa-salieu-se...s-brawl-3359757

I could still see Pa Salieu having a big hit eventually, he's basically just J Hus 2.0. I was aware of his legal case but didn't realise he actually ended up going to prison for it.

(I was quite a fan of Octavian's music during his brief period of relevance but yeah after the above we could do without him x)

Celeste really did have the rug pulled from under her feet with the pandemic as it just seemed to hinder her output so much (a shame really as she has some good songs).

I possibly think someone like Kenya Grace or venbee will appear. Particularly the latter, though she should've been in the 2023 longlist really. I don't feel overly clued up on who's going to be tipped as I don't often follow the Future Sounds/Artists shows anymore but CMAT sounds like a strong choice.

As far as I can see, she's not actually ever released any solo music! I'm not sure there's much for critics to judge her on with all her output being dance features.

Her 'solo' music is with the group Kudu Blue (who have some great songs btw x). But yeah, not sure she has any plans to release her own music outside the group and dance features.

Kenya Grace has already been #1 in the UK charts, I don't know if she is too successful already to make the longlist! Venbee almost certainly will be on the longlist though!

They put Central Cee on the list in 2022 after a #4 hit and several other Top 40s! Kenya Grace would make more sense imo. Although she's had a #1, it was a TikTok-fueled hit and she'll probably need more of a push to get future success.

BBC's Sound of 2024 featuring Noah Kahan, NewJeans and Ice Spice smoke.gif

Haven't paid these lists much attention in a long while but it'd be nice if someone interesting like Hemlocke Springs (or how about Maruja?...probably not) makes it on, or if we wanna raid the BJSC winners cupboard even more, maybe we can throw Snow Strippers on there too

I can see The Last Dinner Party ranking high and 'Nothing Matters' finally getting a proper radio push before their album comes out

Aside from 50 Cent, all the winners are British correct? Have there been any non-British nominees in recent times?

The other non-British winners are The Bravery (2005), HAIM (2013), and Sigrid (2018). Octavian is French-British.

Non-British nominees in the last 5 years are King Princess, Dermot Kennedy, ROSALÍA, Inhaler, girl in red, Tems, and Asake. Additionally, BERWYN was born in Trinidad, but now based in London, and Gabriels are an American-British band.
