RESULTS:

Wildcard Round

10. Lighthouse Family - Ocean Drive (48 Points)

One point between #10 and #11 ohmy.gif Anyway, just making it in is Ocean Drive by Lighthouse Family - a song which only reached #34 when it was originally released, but soared up to #11 on the re-realease. Interestingly enough, the song is named after a road in South Shields (although everyone else probably already knew that)

9. Ellie Goulding - Still Falling For You (53 Points)

Sqo aq #9 we hqve Ellqe Goqldqng (is that how you do it cqm?) with Still Falling For You - her most recent single, featuring on the soundtrack to Bridget Jones' Baby. It was co-written by Tove Lo as well, which probably explains why cqmerqn has popped into this thread for the first time to vote for it. Good thing as well - otherwise it wouldn't have made it!

8. Nirvana – Lithium (57 Points)

Now here's a song everyone knows - even if you don't recognise the name, I can guarantee you've heard it somewhere. A song about a man who turns to religion amid thoughts of suicide, the Wikipedia page has a massive paragraph about the band falling out as they recorded it which I'm not going to read.

7. Beastie Boys - (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) (61 Points)

Another song I can guarantee you've heard - the fourth single from their album 'Licenced to Ill' and one of their most popular songs, apparently the lyrics were intended to be irony (more ironic than another #11 we all know then wink.gif ) however most people have never realised this.

6. Girls Aloud - Untouchable (63 Points)

Just missing out on an AQ place is Girls Aloud's 'Untouchable'. When I searched this on Wikipedia a South Korean band came up before it so I guess the trace inspired rave ballad from 'Out of Control' has lost most of its relevance now, Although you guys clearly like it!

There Dan, you can host your wildcard round now wink.gif

Auto-Qualification

5. Kaiser Chiefs - Modern Way (66 Points)

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSS cheer.gif cheer.gif cheer.gif

Ahem. Sorry for that outburst.

Anyway, auto-qualifying for the Final are everyone's favourite alternative band from Leeds - the Kaiser Chiefs! The fourth and final single from 'Employment', this is a song about loneliness and regret, and has been covered a number of times.

4. Fountains of Wayne - Stacy's Mom (76 Points)

Or 'Stacy's Mum' as I like to call it - a song from American rock band Fountains of Wayne's third album 'Welcome Interstate Managers', about... well I'm sure you can figure that out yourselves. Definitely a staple tune of the 00s though!

3. Brandy - Afrodisiac (80 Points)

And as we enter the Top 3, we get to Brandy, with her song about an addictive passion for a special person from the album of the same name. Clearly a popular one on here though!

2. Marina & the Diamonds - Primadonna (82 Points)

Just in time for the release of 'Disconnect'! The lead single from the Welsh singer's second album 'Electra Heart', this song reached the Top 5 in Australia, New Zealand and Ireland, but stalled at #11 here!

1. Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know (90 Points)

And topping a very low-pointing results group is the Arctic Monkeys' 'Do I Wanna Know' - A song I definitely wan't expecting there! It was the first Monkeys song to reach the Billboard Hot 100, was nominated for a Grammy and is now in the Final of Ultimate UK 11s!

Poor Love On My Mind didn't qualify cry.gif

Love Primadonna and Ocean Drive though, Do I Wanna Know is a good tune to win the group!

a good indie representation in that top five! shame Freemasons just missed out though and I would've liked to seen will.i.am (solo and as part of the BEPs) make it in too.
