swish swish for #1

Posted by: Envoirment 24th August 2017, 11:16 PM

Ooo yay for "Swish Swish"!! It was climbing very nicely thanks to the video and now 59p. Hopefully it can enter the top 10.

I believe Taylor will be released at 5:01am.

Posted by: BridgeCow 24th August 2017, 11:37 PM

All Stars is 59p! Is it finally gonna smash now

Posted by: UltraReputation 25th August 2017, 03:39 AM

Taylor is coming to SMASH *.*

Posted by: omrimayo 25th August 2017, 03:48 AM

Love the new Taylor!!!!! Love!!!!!

Posted by: Ryan. 25th August 2017, 03:49 AM

Posted by: UltraReputation 25th August 2017, 03:55 AM

This is surely going to be a MASSIVE #1?!! I'm so slayed

Posted by: Envoirment 25th August 2017, 03:56 AM

New Taylor is different from her usual. Not a big fan of the chorus, but the bridge is great and verses alright.

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 25th August 2017, 04:15 AM

This song is clearly about Katy AGAIN laugh.gif

And it obviously references Arya Stark

Just weird and not commercial.

The bridge is nice enough.

Doubt this will be no.1.

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 25th August 2017, 04:15 AM

In fact, it might end up getting beaten by Swish Swish to top10!!

Posted by: omrimayo 25th August 2017, 04:16 AM

Number 1 spot on new music Friday for Taylor. Updated.

Gosh that Taylor Swift song is dreadful. Verses decent but such a generic, lazy chrous which has been done before (meghan trainor 'me too'). Trash.

She has so many haters and so many lovers that's insane, she's the biggest in that for sure. I'm a lover for sure. smile.gif 85% lead already on the US!

If this was aimed at me, I never said she *probably* would, just that I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't do as well as everyone was predicting her to, and that people shouldn't be so confident in songs they hadn't even heard! tongue.gif It does of course look at this stage that she probably will be on for an easy #1, which is actually what I also thought would likely happen ~

(I don't recall anyone else saying anything other than 'it'll be an obvious huge #1' but maybe I'm being forgetful)

Posted by: Bjork 25th August 2017, 06:47 AM

Taylor up to fourth! <3

Posted by: Dane 25th August 2017, 06:54 AM

Like the verses & bridge, just not a fan of the chorus...
Agree with the Lorde comparison. Hoping it will grow on me.

Posted by: Capybréra 25th August 2017, 06:57 AM

The chorus lets down the song so much, I really like most of the rest of it (apart from the silly 'cos she's dead' part) but could she really not write a proper chorus for it? drama.gif Glad this isn't just me thinking that tongue.gif

And people will still think she's a massive eye roll.

That's exactly why I like it, It leaves behind her boring ass 1989 era sound

Posted by: Yorkie3 25th August 2017, 08:23 AM

Let's face it, Taylor could have released anything as the first single and it would have been a worldwide #1. She knew that so she's probably saving the big commercial song (something like Blank Space?) for the second single.

Anyway, getting to #1 between 5am-9am is insane, most of her fanbase are probably still asleep.

Swish Swish arrow up.gif 22

Taylor is shaking.

Posted by: iain 25th August 2017, 08:30 AM

Swish Swish has been hanging around iTunes and Spotify since it was released in May. It's hit potential is massive. Hopefully now with the video and radio play it will actually smash.

it's probably part of Taylor's deal with Spotify that they can't promote Katy's single at the same time, you'd think it would get a Hot Hits UK re-add but Taylor will do anything to ruin Katy's career. rolleyes.gif

Damn I'm disappointed in that Taylor Swift song. The song builds up well but that chorus is just a massive fart and so damn lazy. Expected more after such a great 1989 era.

Basically my feelings on it but I'll accept it for what it is and it should grow. It already is. But I doubt it'll go down as one of her classics - ironic that this is what is likely to break her a UK number 1 finally.

THIS exactly.

Having heard the song, it will probably be #1 officially but not with the huge numbers some were predicting. As others have said, the verses and and bridge are good but the chorus is a bit of a non-event. The bridge should have built to a great big killer chorus! She needs to take songwriting classes from me tbh cool.gif

Regarding other new songs:
New Fergie is more 90s than any song I've heard since the 90s laugh.gif
Martin Garrix has gone back to his earlier sound and therefore 'Pizza' is a bit of a banger dance.gif deserves to be a smash tbh.
New Foo Fighters is brilliant, best thing they've done for ages!
New Script is a bit rubbish really, I'll let the haters have that one rolleyes.gif

Posted by: T Boy 25th August 2017, 09:35 AM

I have to be honest, this new Taylor Swift song sounded awful on first listen. The only thing I can remember about it is that it's clearly about everyone she's feuding with. I'm surprised she hasn't alienated her fan base with this. I dunno, maybe it's just that I think she's focusing too much on feuding and it comes across childish to me. But there didn't seem to be anything else to the song.

Posted by: Bjork 25th August 2017, 09:46 AM

Actually in a way it's a bit like the song she did with calvin harris for rihanna
This is what you came for
Great start great verses but then no chorus (Na na na la la la instead of a proper chorus)

Hope the next single is better
And she teams up with cowriters that do a better job

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 25th August 2017, 10:05 AM

To be fair, 'Shake It Off' had quite a repetitive and fairly nothing-y chorus but it worked! I think this does similarly.

The second single (Blank Space) had a massive and explosive chorus, so maybe it'll be the same here?

I just heard the new Taylor Swift song and it's nothing special just like how I expected it to be. It's no surprise to see the public lapping it up!

Posted by: PeaceMob 25th August 2017, 12:49 PM

"Look At What You Made Me Do" is such a great song title, yeah I like the song, reminds me of "Bad Blood" which is my favourite Taylor song (not popular choice I know), it would be nice if she finally gets a UK No 1 single.

THIS!!

Sheeple out in force this year. Spotify and the record companies tell people what to like.

It is a 'Me Too' rehash of Bad Blood and a response to Katy. Booring.

This happened with Coldplay too. One of their worst singles, Viva la Vida, was their first no.1. It happens.

It is a poor song.

Yeah no, it makes sense. An artist, like Colplay or Taylor, can miss no.1 with ALLLL their best, then break it with a weak hype single. It happens.

Posted by: omrimayo 25th August 2017, 02:47 PM

White update, and yes when in the US she has a new all time record of 94% lead she's nearly making 50% and stopped increasing, same with 90% of the world, so. Yes it's a bit weird but it's just fine, just saying facts.

Taylor's lead seems to have peaked very early for now... P!nk making some (pretty negligible) gains in both of the last two updates.

Posted by: Ryan. 25th August 2017, 05:41 PM

It was such a speedy ascent, it would be impossible for her to keep up the pace considering that iTunes is weighted towards recent hours.

Are you upset your fave released whatever THAT is? Pfft i'm not gonna fall over myself praising THAT when even bloody Swish Swish is better!! I'd say somethin about your sappy, soporific posts praising each hair on Taylor's legs as a Davinci, but you are microscopic and fail to register on my beefoscope.

And Mr Silver Rocket, if you come frying beef be prepared for a barbecue smile.gif

And yah, no surprise aboot Taylor. Alsoran fans aside, no one is here for this retread of Me Too- one was enough!! It will be a flash no.1.

We should be comparing Taylor to Dua anyway, not Pink, who still doesn't really have a shot at #1 with her streaming. Taylor's got a 70% lead on Dua on iTunes. It'll be an easy #1 for Taylor even if she fell off #1 on iTunes by Sunday (which she won't)

My point still stands x

I'm not arguing that she's going to miss #1 (especially as she probably is going to be pretty dominant on Spotify, since they have gone all in on the promotion for her). It just seems that she's potentially peaked very early. Will be interesting to see how well her lead holds up over the week.

To be fair, 'Shake It Off' had quite a repetitive and fairly nothing-y chorus but it worked! I think this does similarly.

The second single (Blank Space) had a massive and explosive chorus, so maybe it'll be the same here?

Massive and explosive? laugh.gif

Nothing about that song was massive and explosive, I can't even remember how it goes as it is such a non-event.

The only decent songs from the era were Shake It Off and Bad Blood

I hope Capital re-playlist it and she gets back onto Hot Hits UK on Spotify.

It's certainty a moment for Swish. It still could go either way, but everything is pointing to a second wind at the moment. It needs Capital support and A list from R1. I'm sceptical about Hot Hits, but it's stupid not to re-add it really?

Like I keep saying though, is that not entirely dictated by the record label buying a spot on that playlist?

With her being #1 on the Hot Hits UK playlist (which essentially dictates the Spotify chart), it's fair to assume she's not gonna struggle on streaming.

Posted by: cqmerqn 26th August 2017, 10:41 AM

Eek that was an update which she didn't need. Really expected her to be slaying harder

Posted by: BigMixer 26th August 2017, 10:42 AM

New Rules sold 45k in total last week, Taylor will easily suprass that number this week.

Posted by: 777666jason 26th August 2017, 11:08 AM

True she is outselling dua 3 to 1 currently and although pink is creeping up wherever Taylor debuts on Spotify is highly likely to be higher than pink with all her playlist adds its whether she debuts high enough to threaten dua

Although if Taylor didn't get nber 1 pink would be a good substitute
Could we even get a cheeky female top 3

Posted by: Ryan. 26th August 2017, 11:17 AM

Taylor will get some hefty drops as the massive sudden sales she got in the first few hours are downweighted, I'm sure she'll stabilise with whatever she's on this time tomorrow.

Posted by: cqmerqn 26th August 2017, 11:21 AM

She has the VMAs too and the music video which will get a lot of media attention

Posted by: John-James 26th August 2017, 11:24 AM

Taylor's song is probably one that would do better on streaming than sales. The general consensus of those who like it is that its not bad but she's had better. Perhaps those people would listen to it for free on Spotify but wouldn't be willing to spend money on it because they frankly don't like it enough.

Posted by: 777666jason 26th August 2017, 11:32 AM

This there's nothing about it that makes me instantly dislike it like some songs and if released by another artist I probably would have liked it more. But as a fan of Taylor from the beginning (well fearless but also have and enjoy the TS album) she has had plenty of stronger songs that deserve better recognition but I don't dislike LWYMMD

You're deluding yourself if you think Taylor is going to struggle to make #1 this week. She could sell only 45k and would still go to #1. She's likely to sell that amount on downloads alone, and she has streaming this time too.

This is spot on - it happens to any new release by an established act. The degree of the decline tends to vary though, it wasn't big for P!nk as her appeal is more widespread but Taylor certainly has a fanbase, and those initial buys are being factored out now. Her nearest competition for the official #1, Dua, is still on 0.38. There's no doubt that she'll be #1 imo.

Posted by: Liаm 26th August 2017, 02:46 PM

I'm so fed up of people calling flop for big artists because they don't get to number 1 fast enough, don't get to number 1 or don't have a lead as big as they could have. It happened last week with Bieber, people neglecting to remember it is just a feature, and now because Taylor has had one red update the song is going to flop... As has been said, she's one of those who'll sell TONNES first day but she can't keep that up forever so after that initial boost it is gonna fall a bit. When Dua is still on 0.38 you cannot say it's flopping and won't make be a number 1 drama.gif

'Friends' is a joint single and Justin is credited first, and yes I would call it an underperformance (=/= 'flop') for him so far when it couldn't even make #1 on a low sales week.

Posted by: cqmerqn 26th August 2017, 03:03 PM

Friends flopped. Taylor isn't doing as well as expected (well for me anyway)

Posted by: Liаm 26th August 2017, 03:06 PM

A top 2 hit is not a flop laugh.gif Underperformance yes but I agree with Dan that is not the same thing as a flop. Flop has become such an annoying buzzword online that it gets used for seemingly everything that isn't a number 1 :')

Posted by: BrookeOlivia 26th August 2017, 03:10 PM

I personally think Taylor heading for #1 isn't her "underperforming" She's never had a #1 in the UK, She is bigger in America then she as ever been here. The fact she managed a over 50% lead on itunes and looking at her first #1 is great.

Her album sales probably be good to, Bieber couldn't even manage #1 last week. So wouldn't say Taylor is "underperforming" already give the song a chance it was bound to have big drops today. unsure.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles 26th August 2017, 03:17 PM

Friends is in no way a flop. An underperformance, sure, but it's absolutely not a flop. And Taylor is doing excellently right now, BrookeOlivia makes a great point in that she's always been bigger in the US than here, so of course her lead isn't as massive as it is there, but it's still very substantial as she's selling over double her closest rival for Friday's #1 (Dua, not P!nk).

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 26th August 2017, 03:21 PM

But SURELY it is an underperformance for the fans, two of whom came for me aggressivley when I poured cold tea on their Taylor dreaming, when they were predicting it for a 150K DEBUT???

Posted by: danG 26th August 2017, 03:24 PM

150k was never going to happen, I predicted between 80-90k and I still think that's what it will do.

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 26th August 2017, 03:26 PM

I reckon 45-55k

Posted by: John-James 26th August 2017, 03:31 PM

150k was a ludicrous prediction even with streaming, especially considering Shake It Off debuted with 47k in pure sales back in 2014. I don't have a figure of how much digital sales have declined since 2014 but surely anything over 30k in pure sales is great (which she could definitely do).

You would think on here that someone has committed an cardinal sin for saying they don't like a new song from Taylor Swift, Little Mix, Lady GaGa or The Saturdays. Some would be very upset if anyone dared to say that. It has happened in the past....

Tbh this hasn't happened with this TS song. I've stated why I dislike it and have had no one criticise my opinion and I haven't seen anyone else's negative opinion criticised.

What I have seen is certain posters calling her a flop and the rest, very rationally, explaining why she isn't flopping.

This isn't the case at all, people share their opinions all the time and are welcome to it, it's a discussion forum after all. It's more the way in which opinions are expressed.

Besides, I'm not really sure what the point of this post is when, like T Boy has said, many people have said they're not keen on the Taylor song and nobody has come at them. There's a difference between disliking a song and incorrectly calling it a flop.

I said the song was a bit childish and that She's focusing on her feuds too much. But as I said, no one came for me, probably because I explained myself well and didn't just throw insults around calling everyone sheeple. Because I was diplomatic in my criticism which is something you certainly need to learn how to do.

Posted by: Mack 26th August 2017, 10:05 PM

I'm not keen on the Right Said Fred sample and I'm disappointed by this 'comeback'. Taylor has done much better. 'Shake It Off' and 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' shits all over her new one.

P!nk now up to 0.75, she could be back at #1 on iTunes by the middle of the week unless Taylor stabilises now (her lead has so far been consistently shrinking by a couple of percentage points in every update).

So I guess she'll keep the lead until next weekend at least, depending on whether it gets people talking or not (I imagine it will?)

Posted by: Umi 27th August 2017, 01:24 PM

Honestly there shouldn't be as much discussion of the song's chart fortunes as there is, anyway. Given the nature of the song I think this single would always have been expected to start explosively and drop fairly quickly by her label. More commercial singles will come later, likely just before the album given its release date. This is doing exactly as well as it's needed to.

Posted by: iain 27th August 2017, 01:39 PM

The video is coming tonight which may slow the free fall.

I think her fan base will have sent it to the top but it's not the kind of song that's going to bring in many new fans. Most of us aren't vindictive snakes trying to play the victim so it's difficult for casual music buyers to relate to the track. I expect it'll continue to stream really well though.

Yup!!

What is thr somg even about anyway - what is it that she did in the fist place - is it releasing a song that kinda hints at Kim Kanye and Katy? Or somethin else? Because releasing a song is hardly doin anything and she did it better before with BB. It is not relatable. Compare it to New Rules by Dua which IS relatablr and is a out real issues for her fans, partic. women.

Her numbers aren't (significantly) increasing, it's just Taylor is still declining rapidly. Her lead over Dua Lipa for example has been pretty much the same for the last 3 days (Dua consistently at just under 60% of P!nk).

Just noticed Katy at #12 on iTunes. Hopefully the VMAs will give it a little boost to the top 10 if she does perform it. Although the VMAs doesn't usually have a big effect on UK iTunes. Fingers crossed that airplay will start picking up again too. It's not in the Top 40 airplay rolling chart sadly. Could easily be a big hit if Capital started playing it again. Hoping for Radio 1 A-list this upcoming week.

Actually I think it's managed to capture the feeling of a lot of people towards the world we live in at the moment. Buzzjack as a whole generally prefer female-lead pop songs, plus the fact that we've been getting barely any big female-lead hits recently so naturally people are excited now that a few have come at once.

The Taylor song reminds me of the Fergie/early Black Eyed Peas sort of style (and reminds me a bit of the style of 'My Humps' particularly with the chorus)

I like it though, it is quite catchy.

I don't get the "Taylor is self-absorbed this era" or "Its Ruining her" wasn't she "self-absorbed" with the likes of Shake It Off, Blank Space, Bad Blood which was all about herself and what the media think of her and the beef she had with Katy Perry? Didn't that "self-absorbed" make her what she is today where she can debut at #1 where alot of "big artists" can't? Just don't get it, I don't think Taylor is in any danger of ruining her career anytime soon, I know alot of people may like to hope she is. But she is pretty much bigger than she as ever been right now I would say.

Indeed, which is why nothing has probably been done. Presumably the 'street team' or paid helpers are spread across the country, albeit with a high concentration in Scotland as she made the top 20 in the Scottish chart, which is based on sales alone!

The mind boggles as to why anyone would go to this much effort and money. It's obviously not going to help her career, why not buy her a slot on a high profile playlist or even a prime-time TV slot somewhere. Angelle's boyfriend https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2002/jul/20/artsfeatures.features for a few weeks to promote the #43 smash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8P3VHhmEB0 in 2002 so Kamaliya's husband needs to up his game.

Impressive for Demi. ohmy.gif I still really wish it was 'Instruction' (as well), but I'm still happy about it. With it top 10 on Spotify now too, should make it officially?

'Sorry Not Sorry' is abhorrent so it's gutting to see it in the top 10.

SORRY NO SORRY wub.gif

How people can call it abhorrent when Little Mix laugh.gif, some Screech bandwagon crap, Taylor Swift, and DESPABLOODYCITO are in the top10 I DO NOT KNOW.

Sorry Not Sorry singlehandedly saved music this summer. It should be a no.1 let alone top10. Absolute defining summer BOP

P!nk's song is so repetitive

It's been getting pretty much universals praise from critics, meaningful lyrics that are truly relevant in the world we live in and the VMA performance was amazing.

This.

It is utter dross with basic lyrics that sound like they were spat out in 2 minutes in a college improv session about 'the world man'.

At least we have Demi and Katy in top10 to save it!

Guys let's respect differing opinions please and refrain from personal attacks, this ends here~

(I'm not a huge fan of the Pink song, though fair play to her still being so close to Taylor at this point)

Yep. J Balvin & Willy William - Mi Gente (My People) [feat. Pitbull & Mohombi]

Posted by: danG 31st August 2017, 12:10 PM

A Pitbull remix of Mi Gente is something we really don't need.

Can't see it doing all that much though as he's not very relevant in 2017.

A Pitbull remix of anything is always something we need, I need him to have a revival.

I didn't realise the 1997 version of Candle In The Wind was still available to buy! I wonder if it's only just been added to iTunes now to capitalise, it doesn't seem to be on Spotify.

I guess this release of an english version is going to push sales more especially streaming wise although really the Latin version will be the most successful one at the end of the day anyway.

Interesting to know, I wonder if it's not on Spotify because they want the same proportion of proceeds from the consumption of the song to go to the Diana memorial fund/foundation.

The Spanish version is doing more than just fine on streaming. I think it's more likely the English version will do fairly well on iTunes but not much on Spotify.
