I thought this could be a fun idea how similar / different is your taste since your first personal chart?
I created my first personal chart on April 23rd 2011, at 13 years old, so my taste does differ a bit from now at 21. 1. Olly Murs - Busy 2. Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song 3. Katy Perry feat. Kanye West - E.T. 4. Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull - On The Floor 5. Avril Lavigne - Wish You Were Here 6. Snoop Dogg vs. David Guetta - Sweat 7. Natalia Kills - Mirrors 8. Lady Gaga - Born This Way 9. Glee Cast - Loser Like Me 10. Lady Gaga - Judas 11. Katy Perry - Last Friday Night [T.G.I.F] 12. Jessie J - Abracadabra 13. Kanye West - All Of The Lights 14. Mann feat. 50 Cent - Buzzin 15. Black Eyed Peas - Just Can't Get Enough 16. Lady Gaga - Speechless 17. Adele - Someone Like You 18. Emily Osment - Lovesick 19. Nicki Minaj feat. Drake - Moment 4 Life 20. Rihanna - S&M 21. Jessie J - Who's Laughing Now 22. Devlin feat. Yasmin - Runaway 23. Parade - Louder 24. JLS feat. Tinie Tempah - Eyes Wide Shut 25. Olly Murs - Don't Say Goodbye 26. Nicki Minaj - Girls Fall Like Dominoes 27. Wiz Khalifa - Black and Yellow 28. LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem 29. Bruno Mars - Marry You 30. N-Dubz - Morning Star 31. Justin Bieber feat. Jaden Smith - Never Say Never 32. Jeremih feat. 50 Cent - Down On Me 33. David Guetta feat. Rihanna - Who's That Chick? 34. Avril Lavigne - Remember When 35. Alexis Jordan - Good Girl 36. Ke$ha - Blow 37. Olly Murs - Heart On My Sleeve 38. Katy B - Broken Record 39. Dr Dre feat. Eminem & Skylar Grey - I Need A Doctor 40. Britney Spears - Till The World Ends Not only was there a Jessie J double but one of them was merely an album track secret stan! Lmao at Parade as well. I still think 'Busy' is one of Olly's best singles! Whereas I ended up getting really bored of my #2 'The Lazy Song' in the end, oops. The JadeGagaOlly (+Glee) days were certainly in full swing anyway *.* I was clearly a mainstream hoe with a penchant for the aforementioned faves, plus a couple of others like Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry. I'd say that my taste was a lot more pop-leaning, I still do like a good pop song but my taste leans a lot more towards dance and alternative music now. |

A much more ~commercial~ chart than what my chart looks like now, but the signs of what was to come were there with quite a few dance tracks (though for the first few years of my personal chart I did try to keep it to current and somewhat popular tracks at the time otherwise there'd have been quite a few other random dance songs old and new).
And yes I did specify which songs were instrumentals and that it was the French version of 'Alors on danse' that I was charting, and also for a few songs used the ugly 'ft' to signify features. There was also some sort of points system but oddly only for the top 20. I don't regret that first #1 either, it's a bit of a tune, though I wish my chart (and BuzzCareer) started a bit earlier to give my EOY #1 'We No Speak Americano' a real #1 peak (it only peaked at #3 but I count it as a would've-been #1). Gosh, I only have a full top 40 from late 2013, though I guess that is over 5 years ago now ( )
It's much less pop than my taste would be now and fairly hipster overall with some rap ones in there. I think Avicii must have just released due to the influx of Avicii tracks up there. (RIP!) Lots of continual faves in here tbh - big hitters like Lana, Chvrches, Haim, Nicki, Azealia and Ellie making multiple appearances, Texas as well. Notably as well I charted Wolf Alice back in 2013 before they had their commercial push (very hipster!) in...a year or so from now, right? That fandom didn't stay on though I don't think I've charted anything else from them since! 01 HAIM - The Wire 02 Chvrches - Lungs 03 Busta Rhymes ft. Nicki Minaj - #Twerkit 04 Kelly Rowland - I Remember 05 Avicii ft. Linnea Henriksson - Hope There's Someone 06 Ellie Goulding x Birdy Nam Nam - Anything Could Happen (Remix) 07 Avicii ft. Adam Lambert - Lay Me Down 08 Clean Bandit ft. Noonie Bao - Dust Clears 09 Paramore - Ain't it Fun 10 Kanye West - Blood on the Leaves 11 Lana Del Rey - American 12 Conor Maynard ft. Wiley - Animal 13 Iggy Azalea ft. T.I. - Change Your Life 14 Nicki Minaj ft. Rick Ross + Cam'Ron - I Am Your Leader 15 No Doubt - Dreaming the Same Dream 16 Chvrches - Night Sky 17 Azealia Banks ft. Pharrell - ATM Jam 18 Ellie Goulding - Burn 19 Britney - Work Bitch 20 Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sacrilege 21 Kanye West - Bound 2 22 Phoenix - Chloroform 23 Mutya Keisha Siobhan - Flatline 24 Noisettes - Free 25 Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - Kissing the Machine 26 Cassie ft. Rick Ross - Numb 27 Killers - Runaways 28 Avicii - Shame on Me 29 Avicii - Heart Upon my Sleeve 30 AlunaGeorge - Kaleidoscope Love 31 Mary Lambert - She Keeps Me Warm 32 Ellie Goulding ft. Madeon - Stay Awake 33 Unknown Mortal Orchestra - So Good At Being in Trouble 34 Kreayshawn - Blase Blase 35 Texas - Detroit City 36 Wolf Alice - Bros 37 Texas - Dry Your Eyes 38 Elton John x Pnau - Foreign Fields 39 Sinead Harnett - Got Me 40 Chvrches - You Caught the Light Going back to before this it would definitely have been more pop and retro too (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Marley, Cyndi Lauper), as at one point I owned very few CDs total! You would see big dominance for Scissor Sisters, Evanescence, Pink and Robyn among some others. Notably no big pop girls I don't think until Gaga, maybe some Britney here and there. Definitely no Beyonce or Rihanna as I was actively a hater until 2011 or so. It's been a ride to get here |

My first weekly chart was compiled somewhere in the first three months of 1999.
It was a list with my top 20 songs from female singers. MTV (especially UK and European charts) was my main music source in good old days, so some old songs were included. It's impossible to remember all acts and songs, but my music taste almost didn't change. Geri Halliwell, Shania Twain, Britney Spears and 80s Madonna were my favourites in 1999, still love them now. Back in Dec 1968 I spotted a UK top 30 in the Daily Mirror, and as in those days I avidly listened to the Sunday Chart Show - "Pick Of The Pops" (aged 10) I decided to put them in the "right order" (that is to say, the order I liked them best) in my little notebook with a sweet dog on the cover. I also used to list every pop star I could think of. The "last week" figures are because a few years later I did some retro charts starting from September to fill in chart gaps - I didn't do one every week until 1971.
So, surprisngly most of these acts are still alive, Tom Jones still famous and on TV, Build Me Up Buttercup is an anthem still and Mike D'Abo who wrote it still performs it with The Manfreds, Nina Simone got a 21st century revamp, Eloise an 80's makeover, The Beatles did the original Ob La Di and they are still quite well known and their little-known songwriter Paul McCartney pops up here and there, Dusty's song is regularly covered, The Isleys has hit many times, and been covered many times, Lulu is still working, and Val Doonican is in the UK album charts this week. Oh yes, forgot Cliff, still a thing. 1 ( 1 ) ELENORE The Turtles 2 ( 2 ) THOSE WERE THE DAYS Mary Hopkin 3 ( 4 ) OB LA DI OB LA DA Marmalade 4 ( 5 ) A MINUTE OF YOUR TIME Tom Jones 5 ( 8 ) BUILD ME UP BUTTERCUP The Foundations 6 ( 3 ) AIN’T GOT NO…I GOT LIFE Nina Simone 7 ( NEW ) SOMETHING’S HAPPENING Herman’s Hermits 8 ( 6 ) I’M A TIGER Lulu 9 ( 7 ) ELOISE Barry Ryan 10 ( 10 ) BREAKING DOWN THE WALLS OF HEARTACHE The Bandwagon 11 ( 16 ) SON OF A PREACHER MAN Dusty Springfield 12 ( 15 ) DON’T FORGET TO CATCH ME Cliff Richard 13 ( 9 ) (I’M THE) URBAN SPACEMAN Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band 14 ( 12 ) ONE TWO THREE O’LEARY Des O’Connor 15 ( 11 ) HARPER VALLEY P.T.A. Jeannie C. Riley 16 ( 13 ) THIS OLD HEART OF MINE The Isley Brothers 17 ( 14 ) MAY I HAVE THE NEXT DREAM WITH YOU Malcolm Roberts 18 ( 17 ) THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY Hugo Montenegro 19 ( 20 ) LOVE CHILD Diana Ross & The Supremes 20 ( 18 ) IF I KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW Val Doonican This isn't the oldest personal chart in the world ever, but I doubt anyone has been doing it continuously as long as I have, 50 year-span and 47 years, give or take, so "popchart" "freak" |

If we talk about "retrospective format" the oldest personal chart, which I found is available on UKMix. I have every chart (in pencil) I ever did in various notebooks, with developing handwriting, right up to 1997 at which point I switched to computers. Like you, though, I've never come across any personal charts dating from the 60's or 70's that are of the time - though I did make best friend in 1974 do one for one week only, and I kept that one too and published it on the net the other year, which probably makes him the 2nd-oldest personal charter on the internet |

70s personal charts are rare, but I know some persons, who did it.
First names, which came in my mind. More old personal charts : From UKMix QUOTE From 1974 to 1981 I compiled my personal Top 30 (Top 40 from Feb 1975) - my 14th birthday was in October 1974. These charts show my changing taste from chart pop to soft-rock to punk and post-punk. Throughout the series (and especially after the opening few weeks), there are many records which never made the national Top 50. I've never thought these would be of interest to anyone but me, but I've been asked to post them, so here's the first batch... http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=112938 Well-known Earl Purple from Haven started his weekly charts in 1977. CZB from UKMix started his monthly charts in the summer of 1979. www.ukmix.org/forum/chart-discussion/personal-charts/45988-czb-s-chart-february-2021-month-497-and-1985-month-67 This post has been edited by Last Dreamer: Feb 23 2021, 02:07 PM |

Jamie T getting my first ever #1 though, still a banger *.* 'Xtatic Truth' still a big fave as well, have mostly forgotten the other less mainstream songs on there. Ew at me charting 'When Love Takes Over' though, I forgot that I ever liked that apparently. x Donae'O is the only artist here who's also in my current chart (all the way up at #3 ~) |
