Now That’s What I Call Music! 64 or Now 64 was the offering for summer 2006. It contained 43 tracks and 6 UK #1 singles. It was the first volume in the series to feature quite notable artists like Gnarls Barkley, P!nk, The Kooks, Matt Willis (as a solo artist), Lily Allen, Ne-Yo, BeatFreakz and James Morrison.

Just one omitted UK #1 single which would make an appearance on the following volume. There was also a B side single that made #1 which was left off. But there were other omissions from the likes of X Factor winner Shayne Ward, Muse, George Michael, LL Cool J, Daz Sampson and the official England World Cup single from Embrace (along with many, many unofficial World Cup singles).

The one hit wonders on this volume came from Infernal, Rogue Traders, Sandi Thom, The Zutons, Dirty Pretty Things, The Automatic, Sergio Mendes and Supermode.

Artwork Rating: 6/10 Good
It’s a little basic, but the summer theme they chose this year, which would obviously feature a backdrop of the sea as per usual, featured multiple coloured and multiple designed surfboards. I think it’s ok but nothing more.

Disc 1 Favourite: The Automatic – Monster
I remember this song sounding quite iconic at the time of its release, and it was good enough to cause me to purchase the bands album too. Sadly this was their only major hit single.

Disc 2 Favourite: Bob Sinclar feat. Steve Edwards – World, Hold On (Children Of The Sky)
I loved this era for Bob Sinclar, and this single was a great choice for the summertime. A very catchy chorus easy to whistle along to.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Dani California 4:42 {2}
2. Muse – Supermassive Black Hole 3:30 {4}
3. We Are Scientists – Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt 3:12 {21}
4. The Raconteurs – Steady As She Goes 3:35 {4}
5. The Fratellis – Henrietta 3:32 {19}
6. The Flaming Lips – The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song 3:52 {16}
7. Nerina Pallot – Everybody’s Gone To War 3:54 {14}
8. The Kooks – Naοve 3:24 {5}
9. Embrace – World At Your Feet 3:43 {3}
10. Kelly Clarkson – Breakaway 3:58 {22}
11. Shayne Ward – No Promises 3:42 {2}
12. Chris Brown – Yo (Excuse Me Miss) 3:41 {13}
13. George Michael – An Easier Affair 4:38 {13}
14. Robbie Williams – Sin Sin Sin 4:09 {22}
15. Daz Sampson – Teenage Life 3:03 {8}
16. Pet Shop Boys – I’m With Stupid 3:27 {8}
17. Solu Music feat. KimBlee – Fade 2:49 {18}
18. Dannii Minogue – So Under Pressure 3:21 {20}
19. Deep Dish feat. Stevie Nicks – Dreams 3:45 {14}
20. Blaze presents U.D.A. feat. Barbara Tucker – Most Precious Love 3:16 {17}
21. Armand Van Helden feat. Tara McDonald – MyMyMy 3:38 {12}
22. Justice vs. Simian – We Are Your Friends 2:39 {20}
----------
Total time: 1:19:30

Overall Rating: 6/10 Good
It’s alright for what it is. The standard of the music at the time was going through a transition, and indie music was very much on the rise. However, this volume has catered for many different genres at the time and many of the tracks still sound fresh to hear.

YAS MY FAVE

Posted by: Snow❄Diploughmat 27th November 2017, 09:48 PM

I wonder will our very own dandy* go for his name bearing song as his fave on disc 2?! ohmy.gif

Thanks for bringing this back awardinary. cheer.gif Last Now of the mid 00s funky/retro influenced house revival I would say though so it is rather sad for me to reach this point on our rundowns and accompanying plug sessions as I will have less dance tunes that I really like that I can play in the plug pre-party sad.gif From now on the inferior imo but admittedly 'cooler' electro house, mostly with spoken word vocals would start to increasingly dominate the dance charts in the UK instead (although a funky house/electro hybrid I really do like will make the next Now after this). At least eurodance makes a brief comeback though in the second half of 2006!

For my fave tracks I went for Oakenfold ft Britanny Murphy - Faster Kill Pussycat for the first one! Great tune (although I prefer the Nat Monday trance remix)

Went for Sunblock ft Robin Beck - First Time as my fave from disc 2, a fantastic remix I think, quite nostalgic sounding too to listen to now imo, and better and more interesting for me than Sunblock's I'll be Ready. Beatfreakz - Somebody's Watching me is fantastic too imo and is a close second, with Tell Me Why in third, Stoned In Love fourth and Children Of The Sky fifth, all these five are great dance tracks imo!

Some other great dance tracks omitted, My My My, Fade and Most Precious Love being my faves, Dreams is also very good imo.

ooh great to see this being brought back!

Disc One:
My favourite here would probably be Maneater, but it's a tough choice between the first four tracks on the album - all are brilliant, it's a shame McFly had to ruin it with one of their worst singles on track five. Also like most of the indie on here and what little dance there is too.

Disc Two:
Quite a strong disc two on the whole ignoring the last few tracks (shame the album has to end on quite a dull note). My favourite here and on the whole set is by a long way 'Tell My Why' by Supermode. Also a big fan of Pump It, Buttons and Somebody's Watching Me, plus SOS is one of early Rihanna's best and Smile was a brilliant debut for Lily Allen.

Summer 2006 was such an amazing time for me and this is one of my favourite ever Nows. Went for Who Knew and SOS though disc 1 is so much better than disc 2.
