2 | Melanie B
BridgeCow, JosephAvery, PeteFromLeeds
1 | Emma Bunton
gavindeejay, Riser
0 | Victoria Beckham
WhoOdyssey
A very promising start for many participants on this question. Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell is the clear leader with over three quarters of the overall points as she has managed to rock up 4 UK #1 solo singles in her career. Melanie C comes second after achieving 2 solo UK #1 singles. Melanie B had just one solo #1 single to her name and the same is true of Emma Bunton also. The only incorrect answer here was Victoria Beckham whose the only Spice Girl not to have a solo #1 single in the UK, so bad luck to WhoOdyssey here.
Posted by: WhoOdyssey 15th April 2018, 08:56 PM
Why the hell did I go for Victoria?!
Posted by: Bartier Cqmerqn 15th April 2018, 08:56 PM

0 | Link to iTunes Chart
paulgilb
A much more wide open question this that seemed to split the majority. Kworb just edges it as the most popular platform for iTunes data, maybe because many of the comments within the iTunes weekly threads concern the colour codes of how well or badly a song is doing. Not too far behind is Live Pop Bars which is used to feed live data to the community. Two people correctly said Digital Sales Data, which scores one point. The only other answer given was a link to iTunes Chart which unfortunately was not specific enough to be accepted.

I can tell by your double post that you really feel what you are saying.
I feel it too.
VB, Emma and Mel C had the best material, with mel B's Feels So Good on that list too. It was the press and jealousy that stopped VB from breaking out. No wonder she gave uo. Did you hear how rude Jonathan Ross/ his twatty audience were yo her? I doubt the sycophantic twat would have dared talk to any other guest like that.

Westlife had a grand total of 14 UK #1 singles in their career, making this possibly the most wide open question of the whole quiz. 7 different singles were given as answers with 5 of them scoring any points. The highest scorer this round was
Flying Without Wings which despite only lasting a single week at the top spot remains one of their most famous songs.
Swear It Again which was the lads debit single comes joint second along with
You Raise Me Up which was another of their most popular ballads. Points are also given in this round for
Uptown Girl,
I Have A Dream and
World Of Our Own. Unfortunately, no points will be awarded for
Fool Again in this round, neither for Suedehead2 who strangley neglected to give an answer for this question (but I am sure that was just a lapse of concentration).

Yup - she showed the bullies in the end. Most people were just jealous as they fancied David Beckham and she didn't smile like a Cheshire at because she married him

During the glittering career of Calvin Harris, he has worked with a plethera of talented singers, and many have scored him massive hits too. All but one of the names given were female singers who themselves have had big hits in the UK. Rihanna was the most popular choice in this round from her well known collaborations on
We Found Love in 2011 and
This Is What You Came For in 2016. By my reckoning the next Calvin/Rihanna collab will come in 2021! Ellie Goulding was the second highest scorer in this round, and in third place Florence Welch. Calvin's most recent collaboration with Dua Lipa scores a point too. Other correct answers given included Katy Perry, Kelis and Pharrell Williams but sadly no points awarded.

Bjork
Ah Sir Drake, you either love him or hate him for dominating the charts, but regardless how you feel he is a clear force to be reckoned with when it comes to chart battles. He hasn't appeared in the Now series as often as you might think though, in fact only appearing on 6 occasions in total as either a lead artist or featured artist.
Now 95 was the most popular answer given in this round when he featured on that valume with his 15-week #1
One Dance.
Now 99, the most recent release in the series, featured Drake as a featured artist with BlocBoy, and this scored second highest. The only other volume to score points this round is the one that featured
Hotline Bling which was the 94th volume. He did feature on
Now 86 but this won't score any points this round.
Now 96 and
Now 98 are incorrect answers unfortunately.

Perhaps it is no surprise that the very first Critics Choice Award winner Adele came out top on this round. All 3 of her albums were given as acceptable answers, but it was her second album
21 which scored the most points, in fact incidentally with 21 people all giving that as their answer!
The second highest scorer was
Human by Rag'N'Bone Man which was the second biggest selling album in 2017. Debut albums from Emeli Sandé and Adele also scored points in this round. Other correct answers given for albums from Adele, Ellie Goulding and Sam Smith did not score any points. Dua Lipa was an incorrect answer given as she was sadly not the recipient of a Critics Choice Award.

Ok, not perhaps what I was expecting from this round, and I guess a question like this is better suited to a game of Pointless than Family Fortunes! Nonetheless, on a rare occasion, it is a 100% turnout for the #1 peak which Clean Bandit achieved on three occasions with
Rather Be,
Rockabye and
Symphony. Of course, they have peaked at other chart positions too, but due to the nature of the question, I guess the most obvious answer would be to select the highest peak they achieved in their career. Someone should ask a question like this for the next Pointless quiz though.

I thought of Adele but went for Rag'n'Bone Man as the most recent.

Not all winners singles on The X Factor go on to sell the kinds of numbers that were once possible, but there are a selct few who did manage to surpass the 1 million mark with their debut singles. Top of that list is Alexandra Burke, whose version of
Hallelujah went on to sell a record 1.297 million copies as of August 2016 making it the biggest X Factor winner's single to date. The second biggest seller, selling 1.25 million copies was
Impossible by James Arthur. Selling 1.1 million copies of
That's My Goal, Shayne Ward is another member of that select few who achieved the feat too, but only one person knew that and they won't score any points. However, one of the best known winners to come out of The X Factor, Leona Lewis, is not a member of this club, and as such, her debut single
A Moment Like This is not correct, however, this answer was not given by either participant who named her, so unfortunately no points for them.

Liam, Midge
As there was only recently a single in the charts with the word "Naked" in the title, it was most probable that the majority would recall it to mind when thinking of an answer to give for this question. James Arthur's single was the top answer given here. In the 90's there was another single called
Naked by Louise and a number of participants gave that as their answer. Points are also awarded to those who named Blue Pearl and Ida Maria too. The only other elligible answer that could have been given was another single called
Naked from 1995 by Reef which peaked at #11.

I knew you were looking forward to seeing the result of this question! It is ironic that the most popular answer given was in fact an incorrect answer! JosephAvery was formerly a chart moderator, but now moderates the entire forum as a Global Moderator, however, this of course does still entitle him to moderate the chart forum if he wishes, so it is an answer I will allow. Even the man himself named himself as a chart moderator!
Other popular answers given here include danG, Joe, Mart!n and Jay ☆ who all work hard to moderate various aspects of our chart forum. liamk97 was another correct answer, as was Riser, also moderates the International Charts and Personal Charts forum, but neither score points on this occasion. Some surprising wrong answers given including myself whose never been a moderator before, along with Bré, gooddelta, PeteFromLeeds and the non-descript "Chart Mod" which of course is a term used for the selected chart moderators. There was no mention of *Ben*, Gezza, Umi, Berrier Cody, mdh or SevenSeize.

Pointless is run as a quiz in the Lounge all the time (hype for Lounge Quizzes which will be starting again around summer 2018
) - the way it works is that you just get points based on how many other players said the same thing as you. It's not perfect and it makes the game kind of random and hard to strategise but it's still fun. x
Posted by: Jade 15th April 2018, 10:22 PM
My immediate thought was Joseph but I switched as he's a Global Mod, dammit!!

So I can reveal that one player scored maximum points available, and the scoreboard will be posted in the next few minutes.

Apologies for not being around to comment on this live, too many other things going on on BuzzJack today - caught up just in time for the results! I think I got the top answer for all but one question (the Now! one, I guess Drake only being a feature on Now! 99 worked against that being the obvious answer ) - not surprised at all at the Clean Bandit question having 100% the same answers (I said as much in my PM). And LMAO at Joseph actually being the top answer for Q10 despite that not even technically being a correct answer - it was still my kneejerk response and I didn't even realise my blunder until after I sent it
Honoured at SM351 thinking I'm a chart mod - I was a few years ago but not any more I'm afraid!

Thanks awardinary for running this and major congrats Chez for achieving perfection.
That Westlife question really threw me for a loop. It feels like the sort of cultural osmosis where if it's outside of your ball park (hi), there's like no way of knowing. I went for Swear It Again because I felt as though they didn't have a definitive, defining hit, but that was a pretty big one and their first, but it's interesting just how much the vote sways to Flying Without Wings. I didn't even look at chart runs or Spotify plays when I submitted, but both of those would have just been further noise that doesn't support the 'correct' answer. It's really interesting how these things work out, and it's why the unveiling of results is always so exciting.
Posted by: mack25 16th April 2018, 09:53 AM

Coming in sixth wasn't a bad result... To think I could have been joint-winner if i had got the "Now Series" question correct. Damn lol so close!

- I understood the X Factor question as just any single by an X Factor winner to have sold more than a million lmao.
- I have no idea who's a chart mod and who's not. I figured awardinary might be one since he made the quiz hahaha.

Sorryyy I missed as I was sleeping, but *.*.*, I don't think I've ever got a clean sheet before and it's been so long since I've last won a quiz counting the Lounge ones, wonderful, I must admit all of these had a pretty clear answer to me, though I NEARLY went with Impossible for the X Factor question as it was the better selling plus there was a question that linked to him, but I was swayed by Buzzjack logic, thankfully in this case! I detest that version of Hallelujah so much so that was probably the most joy it has ever bought me.
Thanks Wardy, great to see these quizzes becoming regular again
