ANGELS MAKES TOP TEN IN VH1'S BRITAIN'S TOP LYRIC

Irish Rock band U2 topped a recent poll of 13,000 participants conducted by VH1 to find Britain's favorite pop music lyric. U2 topped the survey with a line from the song One, off of the band's 1991 album Achtung Baby, "One life, with each other, sisters, brothers."
In second place behind U2, fronted by booming political minded vocalist Bono, was a song by The Smiths, How Soon Is Now, and the lyric, "So you go and you stand on your own, and you leave on your own, and you go home, and you cry, and you want to die." Third place went to Nirvana and the hit song Smells Like Teen Spirit and the lyric, "I feel stupid and contagious, here we are now, entertain us."
With the haunting Redemption Song by reggae legend Bob Marley in fourth spot, and Yellow by Coldplay in fifth place, according to the Associated Press, the remainder of the VH1 survey was as colorful and bold as U2,"The top 10 was a mix of the affirmative and the acerbic, ranging from Robbie Williams' uplifting 'Angels' - 'And through it all she offers me protection, a lot of love and affection, whether I'm right or wrong' -- to Radiohead's sour 'Creep.' "
The songs for the VH1 poll were selected by various music industry personalities who gave participants 100 songs to choose from.

Great news about Angels. I don't agree with some of the songs but One by U2 is a well deserved #1 biggrin.gif

it is fantastic that 'Angels' always features well in public votes. It really does set him apart from just being a pop star.

Did anyone see Manchester Passion? it was a play about Jesus and was put to pop music but it had to be done by Manchester Bands, Oasis, The Smiths, Joy Division. Well, the only exception to that was Robbie's 'Angels' which was sung in the middle of the show and also performed by all the cast for the finale.

To perform it twice shows how special this song is. smile.gif

Thanks Scotty for that bit of cheer..great news. Angels has really become part of our identity hasn't it. cheer.gif

As you know Jackie I did watch that programme, I didn't think that she sang it very well though. huh.gif I thought all the voices left a lot to be desired really. Although the bloke that played the lead was alot better.

Was very pleased to hear that Angels made the top 10 biggrin.gif Well deserved, but also probably right that it wasn't number 1 ( ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ) I think its a very well deserved Number 1 for U2, such a great song altogether, not just that one line, and I'm loving the new version with Mary J Blige biggrin.gif
Some strange choices too, but isn't there always!! rolleyes.gif wacko.gif

Of course, nobody will give Robbie the credit because, as we all know, Guy Chambers wrote Angels for him...... rolleyes.gif
