Do you think the days of having successful girlbands, boybands, mixed pop groups can ever return. Back in the 90's they were so many bands that experienced phenomenal success that at the time opened the door to success for bands ahead. Back in the 90s we saw the birth of the Spice Girls, Take That, Steps, Westlife, Backstreet Boys, All Saints, B*Witched, Boyzone, S Club 7 to name just a few, there were loads of successful groups of this nature at the time, of course later the formation of such groups through tv shows such as Girls Aloud, Hear Say, Liberty X etc was a different approach of putting such groups together. Thankfully some of the groups that reformed such as Take That and Steps have managed to have success all over again while others tried but failed. Do you think we will ever see a wave of such groups again and can such groups be a strong force in the UK charts again. I do miss these days as all these bands plus so many others all released some great songs and for me its an element i miss from the charts these days.

It's coming back, but a lot of the new groups getting recognition are coming from a country/industry that isn't an English-speaking majority.
From what I recall it was like that in the 90's/early 2000's, with the UK and US trading groups within each other (with some help from Scandinavia). Nowadays with social media and streaming taking the reins, the focus has turned from Western origin/English speaking groups to the likes of K-pop and J-pop, whose industries have been eyeing the Western market for years. The former has some of the biggest groups to pop up in the household vernacular as of recently, and the latter is home to the second biggest music market today. People are looking at these industries that arguably play the game "better" than the Western market, so much that when a Western group debuts it doesn't receive as much fanfare as the likes of BTS or BLACKPINK. Some may argue that they're not doing as well in the Western market as people say they are but that's a whole other can of worms. Honestly this is just another wave of groups that are coming and going, and there will be another period of the like soon. We should appreciate the waves of groups that come to us because we won't know what we got until it's gone. |
