10 years since Roll Deep rudely denied the clearly more popular Eminem song from number one with one of the most forgotten number ones of the decade. that did annoy me back then especially as it looked like Eminem was finally going to do it from the mids.

if only i were around in 2000 to witness that chart battle, I’d definitely have backed the winning song there too. a very impressive sales talley for both songs there.

Charlie Puth
Charles Otto Puth Jr. (/puːθ/; born December 2, 1991) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. His initial exposure came through the viral success of his song videos uploaded to YouTube.

After initially signing with eleveneleven after performing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Puth began contributing to songs and albums for other artists such as Cody Simpson, Livingston Taylor, and Skizzy Mars; as well as creating lite solo material and covers of popular songs. With primary intent on a solo career, Atlantic Records eventually sought the artist and released his debut single, "Marvin Gaye" featuring Meghan Trainor in 2015. Coinciding with the single came his first feature, "See You Again", which he co-wrote, co-produced, and performed with Wiz Khalifa for the Furious 7 soundtrack as a tribute to Paul Walker. It peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for 12 non-consecutive weeks. After the success of "See You Again", he gained worldwide recognition for multiple subsequent releases, including his next single "One Call Away". The single reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped charts in New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, and the United Kingdom.

Puth's debut studio album, Nine Track Mind, was released in January 2016 to negative reviews from critics, and was preceded by the singles "One Call Away" and "We Don't Talk Anymore" featuring Selena Gomez, which peaked at number 12 and number nine, respectively on the US Billboard Hot 100. In 2017, he released two songs, "Attention" and "How Long", with the former peaking at number five on Billboard Hot 100. Both were included in his second studio album, Voicenotes (2018), which was released to generally positive reviews from critics and peaked at number four on the Billboard 200. A native of Los Angeles' Hollywood region, Blackbear -- born Matthew Musto -- was known as a fledgling rock-leaning singer/songwriter until he co-wrote Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend," a number two hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2012. Around the same time, he reinvented himself as a rapper and more R&B-oriented singer through the self-released Sex, on which he was joined by fellow "Boyfriend" co-writer Mike Posner, along with James Blake and Maejor Ali. He also appeared on MGK's Lace Up. An EP, The Afterglow, followed in 2014. Another big stride was taken the next year with Deadroses, a self-released full-length that registered on Billboard's Uncharted listing of releases from upcoming artists. Martin Jensen
Danish electronic producer Martin Jensen specializes in energetic house with touches that range from big-bass festival EDM to lanky tropical. Born in Silkeborg, Denmark, the DJ started spinning on the side of his day job as a contractor. Posting mixes that sampled viral videos on the Internet, he developed a strong fan base on social media. His first single, the celebratory "Si" -- incorporating a sample of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo bellowing the eponymous exclamation -- became a viral hit in 2015. He quickly followed with the booming "Night After Night" and "Miracles," featuring fellow Dane Björnskov. The latter track featured a toned-down sensibility that saw Jensen adopt a more island-influenced sound similar to Kygo or Matoma. In 2016 he issued "All I Wanna Do" and "Solo Dance," which exploded on social media, nearing 142 million streams. That same year he was ranked 82 on DJ Mag's Top 100. Dua Lipa (/ˈduːə ˈliːpə/; Albanian pronunciation: [ˈdua ˈlipa]; born 22 August 1995) is an English singer, songwriter and model. After working as a model, she signed with Warner Music Group in 2015 and released her eponymous debut album in 2017. The album reached number three on the UK Albums Chart, and yielded seven singles, including "Be the One" and "IDGAF", and the UK number-one single "New Rules", which also reached number six in the US. In 2018, Lipa won the Brit Awards for British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act.

Released in April 2018, the single "One Kiss", with Calvin Harris, reached number one in the UK, and became the longest running number one single for a female artist in 2018. It won her the 2019 Brit Award for Song of the Year. In 2019, she also received the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, and "Electricity", a duet with Silk City, won her the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. Biography

Manchester-based MC Bugzy Malone exploded on the indie grime scene in 2015, racking up 18 million views plus a MOBO nomination that year for Best New Artist. He made his debut in 2010 with the Swaggaman mixtape, and Why So Serious followed in 2011, while Lost in Meanwhile City dropped in 2012. His "0161 Manny on the Map" T-shirts began to be spotted in 2014, a ramp-up year that featured the release of The Journal of an Evil Genius, a mixtape supported by six straight weeks of new video uploads. His 2015 appearance on BBC Radio 1Xtra's freestyle show Fire in the Booth received millions of views within the month it was uploaded; then the Stereotyped mixtape landed before the official release Walk with Me appeared on the Grimey Limey label. The debut EP climbed into the Top Ten of the U.K. albums chart.

Malone saw more success with his subsequent EPs; 2016's Facing Time once again dominated the U.K. Top Ten upon its release. That same year, Bugzy put out a trilogy of music videos entitled Section 8(1), with each video intended to accompany one of three singles from the Facing Time EP: the title track, "Beauty and the Beast," and "I Suggest." The young MC's success became the ultimate catalyst for his burgeoning workflow, and his prolific output produced another release not long afterward with 2017's King of the North EP. U.K. drill MC Digga D spits gritty bars over low-end bass lines, trading in the dark, often violent lyrics associated with the genre. Digga D first emerged as part of West London crew 1011 before releasing a string of solo singles in 2017, including "Kill Confirmed," "Play for the Pagans," "No Hook," and "Next Up." The Metropolitan police launched a campaign to remove all of his videos in 2018, after they amassed significant views. This backfired, as Digga D fans re-uploaded them in multiple locations, leading to the police issuing a CBO (criminal behavior order) to the artist; this required him to screen all of his releases through the authorities, where they would not permit anything that incited violence against individuals or even certain areas of London. Singles that went through this process include "No Porkies," "Mad About Bars," and "Who?" Biography

A Canadian singer and dancer, Tate McRae makes emotive alternative pop. Following her viral emergence in 2017, she released her debut EP, All The Things I Never Said, featuring the Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell co-write "Tear Myself Apart."

Born Tate Rosner McRae in 2003, the Calgary native initially started out as a dancer at age six and studied at the Alberta Ballet. She entered her first dance competition in 2011 and later took the silver medal at the final round of the Youth America Grand Prix in New York City in 2015. Out of the competition, she earned a scholarship for a two-week intensive course at the Berlin State Ballet School. The following year, McRae competed on FOX's So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation, finishing in third place. Along with dance, she developed an interest in singing and acting, appearing as the voice of the rag doll Spot Splatter Splash in Nickelodeon's Lalaloopsy animated series. In 2017, she launched her own YouTube channel by posting a song she had written in one day. The video went viral and helped build buzz for McRae. More songs followed, and she eventually signed with RCA. In 2020, she released her debut EP, All the Things I Never Said. Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, Jarad Higgins would freestyle rap through his school hallways. As a teenager, he began recording as Juice WRLD (a nod to the 1992 film starring 2Pac) and set his eyes on stardom. “My biggest fear is not getting to the point I want to,” he told Apple Music in the documentary accompanying his 2018 Up Next campaign, “but that’s also my biggest strength.” His distinctive, genre-blending take on emo rap—Auto-Tuned vocals, hints of pop punk, and beats inspired by Chief Keef and Chicago drill—shines on the breakthrough singles “Lucid Dreams” and “All Girls Are the Same,” which plumbed grief and regret and heartbreak with alarming honesty. Just five months after his star-making debut project, Goodbye & Good Riddance, he released a full-length collaboration with Future that felt like a euphoric, decadent victory lap. Kygo turned the dance-music world on its ear in the simplest way possible: by slowing down. Biography

Australian singer/songwriter Sam Fischer writes honest, thought-provoking lyrics that are easy to relate to, with the intention of providing comfort to the listener. The Los Angeles resident has written songs for Ciara, Clean Bandit, and Jennifer Hudson, and has been releasing solo material since 2016. After being featured on Black Saint's 2019 hit "Everybody Wants You," his earlier solo tune "This City" took off later in the year.

Fischer was born outside of Sydney, Australia and was writing songs by age 12. He grew up training classically on saxophone and violin and eventually ended up studying at the Berklee College of Music in the early 2010s. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles and began working in earnest on a solo music career while also taking part in L.A.'s a cappella scene and performing as a backup vocalist with the band HOLYCHILD. While working as much as possible in the music industry, Fischer readied his own songs and by 2016 had released his first single, the romantic, R&B-informed "Lean." He followed the next year with singles "Same Friends" and "Getting Older," as well as being featured on Opia's swaying single "Secrets." His debut EP, Not a Hobby, was first released in January of 2018. Fischer co-wrote Ciara's song "Dose" and was featured on tracks by Pat Lok and Nighttime Crowd, but "Everybody Wants You," his 2019 collaboration with London's Black Saint, became a dance hit during the summer. Sony then signed Fischer and re-released Not a Hobby, as the EP's track "This City" started to gain momentum online. - iTunes

Juice WRLD
Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, Jarad Higgins would freestyle rap through his school hallways. As a teenager, he began recording as Juice WRLD (a nod to the 1992 film starring 2Pac) and set his eyes on stardom. “My biggest fear is not getting to the point I want to,” he told Apple Music in the documentary accompanying his 2018 Up Next campaign, “but that’s also my biggest strength.” His distinctive, genre-blending take on emo rap—Auto-Tuned vocals, hints of pop punk, and beats inspired by Chief Keef and Chicago drill—shines on the breakthrough singles “Lucid Dreams” and “All Girls Are the Same,” which plumbed grief and regret and heartbreak with alarming honesty. Just five months after his star-making debut project, Goodbye & Good Riddance, he released a full-length collaboration with Future that felt like a euphoric, decadent victory lap. Nobody makes feeling bad sound as good as The Weeknd. Even the singer’s sunniest tracks (“Can’t Feel My Face,” “Starboy”) feel anchored by darkness—the sense that pleasure is pain and beauty decays and you can’t have the night without the morning after. The brainchild of Toronto singer Abel Tesfaye, the project took off in 2011 with a string of mixtapes (later collected as 2012’s Trilogy) that forged cavernous, falsetto-driven R&B with narratives drenched in drugs, sex, and other regrettable decisions—a sound both sensuous and detached, featherlight and dead heavy. And though his music has gotten a little brighter over time, the prevailing mood remains heavy, even unsettling—the ride you want more of even when you’ve had too much. Biography

When his life was cut short in the early hours of February 19, 2020, Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke was, at the age of 20, more famous than he’d ever been, yet nowhere close to where he was likely to end up. He exploded onto the scene in 2019 with “Welcome to the Party,” a song that somehow plays as enticing as it is menacing, exemplifying Brooklyn’s rising drill music scene at its sharpest. His voice across it—gruff and road-worn beyond his age—carries the delivery of a supervillain, daring his adversaries to try and stop the mayhem he has planned for the city.

Pop Smoke was from the far-flung Canarsie neighborhood, and his verses radiate a singular kind of Real Brooklyn energy. (A great deal of his "Welcome to the Party” video takes place in front of the long-standing jerk chicken staple Peppa’s.) His slang (“sturdy,” “dap me up”) was largely New York City-centric, which helped songs like “War,” “Christopher Walking,” and “Dior” reverberate quickly through, and beyond, the five boroughs. Fans worldwide got indoctrinated upon accepting his 2019 debut project’s invitation to Meet the Woo; a sequel, Meet the Woo 2, was released just weeks before his death. Pop Smoke worked well with the stars of his city, nabbing collaborations with Nicki Minaj, Bronx heartthrob A Boogie wit da Hoodie, and fellow ascending voices Lil Tjay and Fivio Foreign. He’d even have no problem setting his own tone on his Travis Scott collaboration “GATTI,” from the JACKBOYS project. Canarsie had Pop Smoke famously calling friends and associates his “woos,” but his enemies mostly went nameless, barely worth mentioning. Biography

Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, Jarad Higgins would freestyle rap through his school hallways. As a teenager, he began recording as Juice WRLD (a nod to the 1992 film starring 2Pac) and set his eyes on stardom. “My biggest fear is not getting to the point I want to,” he told Apple Music in the documentary accompanying his 2018 Up Next campaign, “but that’s also my biggest strength.” His distinctive, genre-blending take on emo rap—Auto-Tuned vocals, hints of pop punk, and beats inspired by Chief Keef and Chicago drill—shines on the breakthrough singles “Lucid Dreams” and “All Girls Are the Same,” which plumbed grief and regret and heartbreak with alarming honesty. Just five months after his star-making debut project, Goodbye & Good Riddance, he released a full-length collaboration with Future that felt like a euphoric, decadent victory lap. His second full-length solo project, Death Race for Love, released in March 2019, continued to mine personal pain for maximum drama, while collaborations with BTS and Ellie Goulding exhibited his range. Biography

Channeling the imaginations and aesthetics of forebears like Sia and Lady Gaga, Albanian-American pop singer/songwriter Ava Max delivers empowering, dance-friendly anthems similar to contemporaries such as Bebe Rexha, Sigrid, and Dua Lipa. Born Amanda Ava Koci in Wisconsin, she was raised by Albanian immigrant parents in Virginia. The next year, she showcased her Sia-esque vocals with debut solo single "My Way" (Atlantic) before following with "Slippin" and "Not Your Barbie Girl," which interpolated Aqua's '90s classic. That year, she also joined rapper Witt Lowry on his track "Into Your Arms" and David Guetta on "Let It Be Me" from his album 7. Ava Max issued her biggest hit to date that summer as breakthrough single "Sweet but Psycho" -- an addictive pop gem produced by Cirkut (the Weeknd, Katy Perry, Rihanna) -- began charting across Europe. As the song built momentum across the globe, she signed with Full Stop Management, home to Charli XCX, Harry Styles, HAIM, and others.

By summer 2019, "Sweet but Psycho" had topped on over a dozen charts in Europe, as well as in New Zealand and on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart. The sleeper hit was soon certified platinum in Australia, the U.S., and the U.K. Max followed with modest hit "So Am I," which got the K-pop remix treatment with guests NCT 127. Headie One
Honing his skills under the #OFB banner, North London rapper Headie One soon became one of drill's most engaging figures, finding national success alongside RV on the back of iconic mixtape Drillers & Trappers. Moving into solo work during the late 2010s, the rapper found his biggest success to date with 2019 mixtape Music X Road, which landed at fifth place on the U.K. album charts.

Rising from the remnants of North London gang Tottenham Mandem, rap collective Star Gang soon became a hotspot of talent for the North London rap scene, most notably Tottenham's Headie One (born Irving Adjei) and RV. From day one, the duo's synergy on the mike was evident. Working under Star Gang through the early 2010s, the two released early singles like "Youngers from Farm," shifting between more traditional U.K. rap and U.S.-inspired trap for early mixtapes Headz or Tails (Headie One, 2014) and Sticks & Stones (Headie One & RV, 2016). Moving fully into the U.K.'s drill scene, the pair released third mixtape Drillers & Trappers the following year. It was here that the pair truly made their mark: working with producers like MKThePlug and M1OnTheBeat, the duo quickly built a following with their relentless flows and artistic synergy. Marking their singles with the tag #OFB, the duo soon founded drill collective Original Farm Boys, an homage to the Broadwater Farm Estate where they grew up.

Headie continued through the late 2010s with a series of individual releases. His second solo mixtape, The One (2018), produced some of his biggest hits to date, with "Golden Boot" and "Know Better" soon becoming drill staples. After closing out 2018 with third tape The One Two, Headie kicked off 2019 with the long-awaited sequel to Drillers & Trappers, enlisting RV's help for 13-track set Drillers X Trappers II. Heralded by Top 10-charting single "18Hunna," the rapper's fourth tape, Music X Road, arrived later that year; with features including Skepta, Dave, and NAV, the tape pushed Headie's brand of drill into new, inventive directions. A strong working relationship with producer Fred Again produced the late-2019 single "Charades," before the duo linked up in early 2020 for experimental mixtape GANG. - iTunes

A couple of years after he broke into the mainstream with 2009’s So Far Gone, Drake was browsing art in Los Angeles when a piece caught his eye: a big neon sign that read, “LESS DRAKE, MORE TUPAC.” For a minute, he felt angry, embarrassed—he wanted to walk up and rip the sign off the wall. Instead, he bought it. After all, he figured, you get someone hanging your name next to Tupac’s, even if it’s only to take a shot at it? You must be doing something right.

Born Aubrey Drake Graham in Toronto in 1986, Drake became—like Tupac—something of a generational voice, a prism for his pop-cultural moment. Was he an R&B singer who rapped or a rapper who sang? Was he really that sad, or just doing a bit? And if it wasn’t a bit, how could this guy—talented, intuitive, hardworking—really be so down?

From minute one, there was something a little different about him: He could be confessional, vulnerable, but also incredibly coarse; he could make an earnest commitment one minute (“Take Care”) and be drunk-dialing the next (“Marvins Room”); he could convince you he was an underdog from his perch on top of the world (“Started from the Bottom”). Critics—and he’s had plenty—like to point out that he started as an actor: He played Jimmy Brooks in the Canadian teen show Degrassi: The Next Generation. But most of all, he felt like a person—someone who isn’t canceled by his paradoxes, but defined by them.

Though the feelings remain (always feelings, big feelings), the sound—for the most part, courtesy of longtime affiliate Noah “40” Shebib—is always changing: a little dancehall here (“One Dance”), a little house there (“Passionfruit”), some old New Orleans bounce (“Nice for What”), a bit of Wu-style boom-bap (“Started from the Bottom”), some smooth, to-the-minute trap-soul (“Hotline Bling”). Like Kanye, Drake is as much a curator as he is a creator, an artist capable of arranging collaborators from a universe of styles and making them all fit into his personal vision—an approach that has made him one of the most definitive rappers and pop figures of his era. “I obviously spend a lot of time in my own world,” he told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in 2016. “But when I do take a look at the broader scope of things, it’s often [in the studio]… Even though I don’t directly, literally address things in my music, I’ve always tried to make music that transcends gender, nationality—to try and unify people. Jason Joel Desrouleaux (born September 21, 1989), better known by his stage name Jason Derulo (/dəˈruːloʊ/; formerly stylised as Derülo), is an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Since the start of his solo recording career in 2009, Derulo has sold over 30 million singles and has achieved eleven Platinum singles, including "Wiggle", "Talk Dirty", "In My Head", and "Whatcha Say".

After producing records for several artists and writing songs for Cash Money Records co-founder Birdman, Young Money Entertainment owner Lil Wayne and rapper Diddy, Derulo signed to minor recording label Beluga Heights. After Beluga Heights became part of the Warner Music Group, Derulo released his debut single "Whatcha Say" in May 2009. It sold over five million digital downloads, gaining an RIAA certification of triple Platinum, and reaching number 1 in the U.S. and New Zealand. Biography

Little Mix are a British girl group formed in 2011 during the eighth series of the UK version of The X Factor. They were the first group to win the competition, and following their victory, they signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Music and released a cover of Damien Rice's "Cannonball" as their winner's single. The members are Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson.

Becky Hill
With her highly resonant voice and R&B-influenced style, Becky Hill first came to the public's attention competing on series one of The Voice UK. Ultimately reaching the show's semifinal round, Hill emerged a fan favorite and became the first Voice UK contestant to score a number one single when "Gecko (Overdrive)," her collaboration with Dutch EDM star Oliver Heldens, topped the U.K. singles chart in June 2014.

Born on February 14, 1994 in Bewdley, Worcestershire, England, Hill was no stranger to music when she first auditioned for the then new The Voice UK in 2012. As a teenager, she had sung with the acoustic rock & soul group Shaking Trees, which created some local buzz and received several plays on BBC Radio. On The Voice UK she made it to the semifinal with her powerful renditions of R&B songs by the likes of John Legend and others, before being eliminated. By her own admission, she was a novice in the music industry game and it took her 18 months to finally get a record deal. In the meantime, however, her sultry, soulful, older-than-her-years voice was highly sought-after by dance artists looking for feature vocalists. Her first recorded appearance, on British drum'n'bass artist Wilkinson's single "Afterglow," went to number eight on the U.K. singles chart. She then appeared on Rudimental's single "Powerless," singing with them at several U.K. festivals in 2013, including Glastonbury.

Following her success with Heldens, Hill worked extensively with London-based dance producer MNEK and issued her debut solo single, "Caution to the Wind." It showcased a shift toward a more electronica-influenced sound, with twinkling melodies and production reminiscent of Four Tet. The Eko EP appeared in 2017, and included the single "Unpredictable." Sigala is the musical nom de plume of Bruce Fielder, a London-based house DJ, producer, and remixer. Born and raised in Norfolk, England, Fielder began piano as a child, and played in various bands after graduating university. He found work as a producer, and co-wrote Ella Eyre and Sigma's 2015 U.K. hit single "Good Times." His first solo single as Sigala was "Easy Love," an energetic house tune built around a sample of the Jackson 5's iconic hit "ABC." Released by Ministry of Sound, it entered the U.K. singles chart and shot up to number one in its second week. Fielder's second single, "Sweet Lovin'" (featuring singer/songwriter Bryn Christopher), hit number three and was certified gold or platinum in several countries.
