I start this 'Summer Transfer Thread' early because of the news that Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Memphis Depay from PSV for a fee of £25m-£30m.
He will join Manchester United when the transfer window opens in June.
From BBC Sport Website:
Killer signing by Van Gaal. Depay is awesome. Not a bad price either.
Can't lie that I'm not gutted, think he's a brilliant player.
That said I'm not sure Liverpool need anymore 'excellent prospect, but not quite there yet' players.
Chelsea have signed Brazilian midfielder Nathan from Atetico Paranaense for an undisclosed fee.
He scored 5 goals for Brazil in the 2013 Under-17 World Cup.
According to his agent, Petr Cech has been given permission to talk to other clubs. Where do people think Petr Cech will move to?
Current Odds:
PSG 17-10
AS Roma 3-1
Arsenal 7-2
Liverpool 4-1
Man Utd 13-2
Inter Milan 9-1
Real Madrid 10-1
Juventus 14-1
Napoli 14-1
Atletico Madrid 16-1
Do people think David De Gea will move to Real Madrid?
Looks almost a certainty he'll be leaving United & I imagine Real would be the obvious destination. Bit of a kick in the teeth for Atlético fans!
Hope Liverpool make some shrewd signings this summer and early please no deadline day nonsense. James Milner for centre mid, Higuain from Napoli who failed to reach the champions league too and Rafa is leaving. Proven goal scorer! Get rid of that bast*rd Sterling and get Ibe in the first team all next yr. should get 20-25m for him.
I would also coach defensively with Lovern and Skrtel being the main partners and a new right back to replace Glen Johnson - hopefully a decent one. We also need a sub keeper to replace Brad Jones - Cech please??
So Raheem Sterling wanting to leave Liverpool. Where do you think he'll go or will he be persuaded to stay?
What do you think?
Sterling should honour his contract. Don't forget he rejected a £100,000 per week contact from Liverpool.
OUT OUT OUT
A month or so ago Brendan Rodgers said Sterling is the "best young player in Europe". You can't then complain at the best young player in Europe wanting more than Liverpool can offer, especially a Liverpool managed by Rodgers.
Makes me laugh so many people saying he should be more loyal and stay, Liverpool ultimately have to accept that they're not in the top two tiers of European football now, and their best players are going to move onwards, especially when they fail to qualify for the Champions League, just like they can get the best of the tier below them, like they did last summer taking the top talent from the likes of Benfica, Bayer Leverkusen and Southampton.
He'll never reach his potential when his manager plays him as a centre forward one match, right wing-back the next and on the wing the next. From a neutral's point of view it's easy to see why he'd want out of Liverpool. Brendan has to take a huge amount of responsibility for his lack of form as he's been shifted around the pitch from game to game. He plays as a number 9 and then gets criticised for poor finishing, but he's a 20 year old winger FFS, he's not going to be Suarez.
For me your biggest problem is Brendan. How many good buys in three years? Three, maybe? And one of those (Can) ended up in a completely different position to the one he's always played in almost by accident. The system and players in it was clueless on Saturday. Of all the teams in the Premier League Palace use wingers as consistently and effectively as anyone, if ever there was a match to not play a 19 year old winger and a full-back who's never really looked comfortable in this league as wing-backs this was it.
Away from the Sterling situation.
Aston Villa have signed Scott Sinclair from Man City on a permanent deal following being on loan with them. He played nineteen times for Man City after moving to them for £8m back in 2012.
It would be ridiculous if he got sacked, people forget very quickly - and his style of play is the best I've seen Liverpool play, it's about finding another goal scorer this summer - who would survive without a Suarez and Sturridge up front all season!?
Raheem Sterling getting booed by a small number of Liverpool fans after collecting the club's 'Young Player of The Year'. It amazes me how he thinks he's not a money-grabber when he rejected a £100,000 a week contact.
Now Raheem Sterling's agent is saying that Sterling wouldn't a new contract even if Liverpool offered him £900,000 per-week.
He also went on and called Jamie Carragher a knob and he suggested that Chelsea and Man City would be the most likely destination for him.
I hope Sterling's career goes swiftly south and he ends up benched for the next year at City or somewhere. He has every right to want to leave Liverpool (and they could certainly spend the money on a much better player) but the way he/his agent have gone about this so publicly is pretty vile. He's clearly very badly managed or advised.
Buy Buy Raheem!! Good ridance, we made you a decent young player hope you are the new Scot Sinclair!!
Liverpool have cancelled tomorrow's meeting with Raheem Sterling following comments made by his agent.
Will probably be a benchwarmer for Man City if he moved there.
f*** Sterling
Stick him in the reserves and ensure he has a shit pre-season. It's awful how unprofessional he's been to a club who's done so much for him.
Put him in the reserves for the last 2 years of his contract lol thatll teach him!
15 of the best players according to "The Guardian" that will be available on a free transfer this summer:
Sami Khedra
James Milner
Andre Ayew
Sergio Romero
Dani Alves
Andre-Pierre Gignac
Iganzio Abate
Marcell Jansen
Ron Vlaar
Neto
Nigel de Jong
Carlos Zambrano
Danny Ings
Michael Lang
Stefan Strandberg
Manchester United will not be signing Falcao after his loan with them ends.
EDIT:
Didier Drogba is set to leave Chelsea for the second time as he said:
Sami Khedira could be moving to Juventus from Real Madrid according to reports in Italy.
Liverpool have had a £10m bid for Nathaniel Clyne rejected by Southampton.
Spurs confirm the £4m signing of the 22 yr old Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer from FC Köln.
Disgusting for Newcastle to release Jonas from the club.
Liverpool are going to hold talks with James Milner this week.
Apparently Diego Costa wants to leave Chelsea and go back to Spain according to The Sun.
Liverpool has agreed a deal to sign James Milner from Manchester City on a free transfer. He will join on 1st July. What do people make of this signing?
Very good signing. Has a few years left in him, particularly at CM.
Rooney why is it disappointing he will play in the centre? He was quality for Villa there before he went to city - great signing, player in his prime.
Much better than Allen, should replace him. He will replace gerrard for a few yrs, could be captain too.
Skrtel disgusted at Liverpools offer - strange!
Everton have completed the signing of Tom Cleverley on a five-year contract once his Man Utd deal expires.
Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Danny Ings from Burnley.
Danny Ings seemed very overrated to me when I saw him at Upton Park. Good worker but his finishing was woeful. Saw an article in the Telegraph saying he could be next season's Harry Kane
Saw Cleverley recently too and he was a much more aggressive player than comes across on TV. Good touch and he scored the winner against us too. Maybe he was coached out of his natural game at United because when he broke through he was an exciting player. I hear Martinez wants to use him creatively so that's good for him I guess.
I am a bit surprised at the signing of Danny Ings as well, other news is that Ron Vlaar has been offered a new contract at Aston Villa and Darren Bent has been released from the same club.
Bent has since signed for Derby County on a two year contract (according to Sky Sports News) and they have also signed ex Reading player Alex Pearce.
Juventus have signed Sami Khedira from Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Dani Alves has signed a new two-year deal with Barcelona to end any speculation of a move to Liverpool or Man United.
Ings is a bit of a no brainer really. While he's not really going ti improve us, for about £8m it's a good price. If he's good, excellent. If he doesn't make it, someone like West Ham/Stoke will buy him for £15m a couple of years down the line.
He's a good player a fighter and a decent goal scorer - 11 last season in a relegated side and 21 in the championship and only 22 yrs old. He will also fit in well as he's more of a Suarez player who will chase the ball down all day long in comparison to Mario & Ricky Lambert!
West Ham have signed Pedro Obiang from Sampdoria for an undisclosed fee.
Sounds a tidy little player, could fit in well in Centre Mid alongside Kouyate and Noble.
Man City have had a £25m bid for Sterling rejected. Double that price and he's yours If you pay £40m for Mangala, you can pay more for Raheem!
A very extremely hopeful bid here for Sterling:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3121979/Macclesfield-launch-audacious-bid-bring-Raheem-Sterling-Conference-Premier.html
Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Falcao on loan. I wonder what Mourinho saw in him last season!
Southampton sign Juanmi from Malaga for £5.1 million, another striker for them for their Europa League campaign.
Man City has stepped up their offer for Sterling of more than £35.5m which is likely to be rejected by Liverpool.
Regarding Falcao could Mourinho see a way to get the best out of him?
Falcao could easily be the next Shevchenko or Torres if not careful!
Don't think Liverpool will accept the new bid for Sterling, Sky saying its close to 40m as well
That's true he could be another Shevchenko or Torres when he was at Chelsea if he's not careful. Could be a remarkable turnaround in form for Falcao or another season flop.
Id take that for Sterling he will go for free next yr lol. Falcoa will just be a 4th choice for Chelsea anyway. Id rather Patrick Bamford if i was them tho!!
Is Falcao playing in the Copa America this summer?
40m for Sterling is shocking.
I think Sterling is horrifically overrated and I wouldn't even have him at Chelsea as I prefer our winger options. Sterling would most likely fit in at Man City but this means that Liverpool must spend the money incredibly wise.
Liverpool can f*** right off if they reject 40m. And City are idiots for paying it.
Aston Villa have completed the signing of former Man City player, Micah Richards.
Very good purchase.
£40m isn't a lot when you consider QPR's 20% sell on fee and judging by our track record he won't be replaced by anyone of quality. Right now it's looking like Benteke for £32m, which doesn't fill me with much joy
For that reason, I'd hold out for more or keep him for another year. Man City are desperate for young English talent and it's still early in the window. I'd be surprised if they didn't come back in with another offer
Southampton have completed the signing of Sporting Lisbon's Portuguese defender, Cedric Soares in a deal worth up to £4.7m.
Peterborough have completed the signing of Joe Gormley from cliftonville for around 60k pounds
Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos and Bayern Munich's Bastian Schweinstieger.
Inter Milan are set to sign Monaco's Geoffrey Kondogbia for £25m.
Man U are literally linked with every single player.
Both Milan clubs are really set on getting back into Europe.
There's a distinct possibility that Italy could take our fourth CL spot next season, which makes it even more imperative.
Milan need to spend millions in order to become a force in Europe again.
I really want the Italian league to step up because it's a great shame to see Milan etc underperforming.
Juventus are set to sign Mario Mandzukic from Atletico Madrid for £13m after just one season at Atletico.
West Brom's Mulumbu is on his way to Norwich after July 1st. Looks a very promising signing from what I have read about him.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33231912
Maarten Stekelenburg joining Southampton is such a weird purchase. He's too good to be a back up goalkeeper to Fraser Foster unless he's on his way out?
Ramos is only linked with us as he's jockeying for leverage on a new contract. Ed Woodward realises we have absolutely no pull in the De Gea transfer saga so is clinging on for the ride. It all smacks of desperate posturing and nothing more. Christ, it won't be long before we're linked with our own players.
Looks very likely that Petr Cech will be moving to Arsenal as talks continue between them and Chelsea.
Liverpool have apprently held talks with Roberto Firmino, Carlos Bacca and Salomon Rondon.
And Bournemouth have agreed a deal to sign Sylvain Distin.
Liverpool confirm signing of Roberto Firmino
First signing I've genuinely been excited about in a while
Bacca and Clyne in now would be a good ending to the summer even if Sterling does leave. Kovacic would be a bonus
A lot of money for Liverpool to spend... he'll face a level of scepticism at first as he's a name unfamiliar to English fans.
I think Bacca probably won't happen, get the impression Liverpool are put off by the fee.
Cech to Arsenal is the biggest transfer so far. That'll install them as second title favourites now, but I still can't see them doing consistently throughout a whole season!
Bacca is incredible, but he's not right for Liverpool. And why would he go there when he's guaranteed champions league where he is already. Liverpool are not a better club than Savilla, it would be a fairly ridiculous downgrade.
Hopefully with Cech coming to Arsenal, Wenger continues giving Szczesny the opportunity to play FA Cup, maybe champions league too... He's too good to be benched except for six matches a year.
Leicester City have completed the signing of Robert Huth from Stoke City on a three-year deal after spending the second half of last season on loan to them.
Morgan Schneiderlin has apprently struck an agreement with Southampton to leave this summer. Where he could be at the centre of a three-way battle to sign him between Man United, Arsenal and Tottenham.
Carlisle have signed Bastien Hery the former Rochdale midfielder. Hope he likes this town better...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33263991
West Ham have had a 10.7m offer accepted for Marseille player Dimitri Payet. He had the most assists in the French league last year and has been capped multiple times for France.
Always find it strange when West Ham sign good players, always suspicious as to what's wrong with them We did need a creative midfielder though, so hopefully does well. End of Nolan now I'd have thought!
I can't say I have ever seen Firminho play, but the reports say he is closest player available to how Suarez plays. For that I am excited. If we sign a top striker and another midfielder, I'll be optimistic of us putting up a fight for Top 4 next season.
Sadly I this is the end of the road for Sterling. Brilliant player, but corrupted by his agent. He deserves all the stick he will rightly get next season.
Clyne is an absolute fantastic purchase.
Weren't people saying that about Lallana & Lovren too? Form can change when players move clubs but at least Clyne is an obvious improvement on the current RB I suppose.
Everton have agreed a £4.3m deal for Gerald Deulofeu from Barcelona following his loan with Everton during the 2013/14 season.
Bournemouth look set to sign Tyrone Mings for £8m from Ipswich Town.
Today's gossip column:
Man Utd are close to signing Morgan Schneiderlin for £24m (Daily Star)
Real Madrid have rejected Man Utd's £35m offer for Sergio Ramos (Daily Mail)
Paulinho is close to joining Scolari's Chinese side Guangzhou for the £17m fee he cost the Premier League club (Evening Standard)
Watford have been offered Inter Milan's Davide Santon and Zdravko Kuzmanovic for £7m (Evening Standard)
I find the Ramos to Man Utd perplexing. I have no doubt in my mind that they are trying for them, but I can't work out whether it will come off, or whether Ramos is just angling for a new contract.
Leicester City are set to sign Japan striker Shinji Okazaki on a four-year deal with Mainz subject to a work permit.
^
I can't see Ramos moving to Man United to be honest with you. He'll probably sign a new deal in the upcoming weeks.
Ramos is def angling for a new contract!
Glad Liverpool seem to be doing much better in the market this yr in comparison to manure - they are getting bogged down in the de Gea transfer!
Paulinho has moved to Guangzhou for a reported £9.9m.
Man United have bid 28.9m for Sergio Ramos.
He's not *that* good, and he's a walking card.
Is Ramos what Man United really need? Understand that you can't turn down a player of his quality if available but that's a significant investment for a player with little re-sale value.
Quite right^^ he's nearly 30 now & will only see a couple more years of him at his very best.
But in the modern day game you have to buy for now, none of this investing for the future rubbish that teams harp on about as that never proves sustainable (i.e. they'll never stick around). Chelsea proved last year just buy the best available at their peak. Ramos will be a quality addition to the first team (as much as I dislike the guy ) and it certainly bulks up an area that sorely needed improving last season.
Man Utd need a centre back, but Ramos is not what they need. I have no idea why they are so intent on buying the big names, when there are far, far better players available for half the price. Madness.. won't believe the Ramos bid until I see it on BBC though.
Clyne, Firmino and Milner go straight into the starting XI
Ings will be 3rd/4th choice, but is an improvement on Balotelli/Borini/Lambert
We could have done better than Bogdan, but he'll get a handful of games at most so it's not too much of an issue
Another striker and we are probably done for the summer. Possibly another attacking player if Sterling leaves, but I'm not completely convinced that it is that clear cut right now
Rodgers still has the problem that he doesn't seem to have all of the dressing room on side - the downside of finding a XI that works for a few months (as he's done for the last two seasons) is that it alienates anyone who isn't in it. Players like Lucas don't seem to want to be there any more.
Douglas Costa has moved to Bayern Munich from Shakhtar in a £21m deal.
Sebasitan Coates has moved to Sunderland from Liverpool. Liverpool hve confirmed the singing of Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton on a £12.5 million deal.
In other news, Southampton have terminated the contract of their record signing Dani Osvaldo who scored 3 goals in 14 appearances before not playing for them again in January 2014 after he got suspended for getting into a training ground fight with Jose Fonte.
I guess the Costa deal means the Schweinstiger rumours will start up again?
Stoke have had a bid accepted for Shaquri .. absolutely crazy. The mid-table sides are making some really strong signings this summer so far.
Pleased the Clyne deal is sewn up. I don't think he's amazing, but a very good addition to a position we desperately needed cover in.
Shaquri to Stoke could be one of the best purchases of the season.
I can't believe Stoke have sneaked in to sign Shaquiri - is nobody else looking at him?
Stoke are also apparently in for Balotelli.
Carlos Bacca has gone to AC Milan. Both they are Inter are really set on getting back up there.
Shaqiri to Stoke is one thing but Cabaye to Palace?!! Why aren't so many other teams bigger than they are after him!
Why are Liverpool not after Shaquiri - great replacement for Sterling, great player?! How why?!
QPR have rejected a £12m bid from Leicester City for Charlie Austin.
Here were no transfers in the Premier League yesterday.
Brentford have signed Andreas Bjelland from FC Twente for £2.1m.
Nani looks set to move to Fenerbahce after the clubs agreed a £4.5m fee for him which will end a eight-year stay at Manchester United.
Derby smashed their transfer record today! Our previous record was £3.5 million for Robert Earnshaw back in 2007 but we have just paid a reported £4.75 million for Tom Ince from Hull who was of course on loan with us for the second half of last season. He did an incredible job and is well worth that fee!
We are going all out with transfers this summer as we've already bought Weimann for £2.75 million and signed Bent, Carson, Alex Pearce and Chris Baird. And if rumours are to be believed we also want Burnley's Jason Shackell and Sunderland's Liam Bridcutt!
Not sure what Bacca would go to Inter for unless it's just all about the $$$. He should be playing champion's league.
Lukas Podolski has left Arsenal to join Galatasaray according to them.
Non-shock of the weekend!
Everything seems to have gone quiet about who else Arsenal have in mind now, with Schneiderlin looking likely for Utd and Lacazette seemingly off the cards.
Also right now I think once the Sterling to Man City goes through, a lot more transfers will. Quite a lot of potential deals that are being talked about all hinge on that going through, or waiting to see what the price agreement is at least.
van Persie looks set to leave Man United for Fenerbache. Surprised how muted the reaction seems to be, he was the main reason for their last title win!
Today's Gossip Column:
Liverpool will continue their summer spending by matching the £32.5m buy-out clause in Christian Benteke's contract to bring Aston Villa's 24-year-old Belgium forward to Anfield. (Daily Express)
With the future of De Gea uncertain, United are considering a move for Stoke's 28-year-old Bosnia goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, who is also a target for Chelsea. (Daily Mirror)
Arsenal have made initial contact with Spain international Pedro's representatives over a move for the 27-year-old Barcelona winger. (Independent)
The Gunners will also pursue a big-money move for Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal with his club Juventus now willing to sell the 28-year-old. (Metro)
Southampton expect to complete a deal for Belgium defender Toby Alderweireld, who spent last season on loan at St Mary's, after Atletico Madrid failed to cancel the buy-out clause in the 26-year-old's contract in time. (Talksport)
The Saints are prepared to take legal action to ensure that Alderweireld joins them and not Premier League rivals Tottenham, who have agreed an £11.5m deal with the Spanish club. (Daily Mirror)
Man United have had a bid for Morgan Schneiderlin rejected the Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed:
Southampton have signed defender Cuco Martina from FC Twente on a two-year contract.
Manchester City have signed Enes Unal from Bursapor for a undisclosed fee and Barcelona have signed Atletico Madrid's Arda Turan for a fee of £24m although he won't be able to play for them until January due to Barcelona being unable to register new players under the terms of a FIFA ban.
According to the Daily Mail.
Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna has agreed to join West Ham instead of Everton in an £8 million deal.
Wow, where are West Ham getting all their money from?
The last time we spent so much was 2007 and that was largely wasted on crocks like Dyer, Bellamy and Ljungberg. Saying that, we spent a fait amount last summer but that felt like bargains!/
Manchester United have reportedly agreed a £12.7m fee with Torino for right-back Matteo Darmian.
^ No news confirmed officially from Manchester United about Darmian,
Tottenham have signed Toby Alderweireld for a undisclosed fee from Atletico Madrid on a five-year contract. However Southampton may take legal action as they belived that they had an option to buy him for £6.8m unless Atletico paid £1.5m to buy back that clause. We'll wait and see what happens regarding that situation.
Crystal Palace look very close to completing the signing of PSG's Yohan Cabaye for £10m which would be their record signing. What a signing this could be if Cabaye can reproduce the form he showed when he was at Newcastle.
The Darmian deals looks as good as complete. I've not watched him so I can't really say much of an opinion, apart from it was obvious Man Utd were after a right-back. Interesting to see how he adapts in the Premier League.
Sooner the better Raheem Sterling gets lost. He's an absolute embarrassment. I hate giving stick to ex-players as I find it so small time, but there's such a bitter element to this move that all the shit he gets will be fully justified.
Another of many players linked to Man United, Mats Hummels has confirmed that he will be staying at Borussia Dortmund for another season.
Darmian was arguably the MotM against England. Might even be a better bet than Clyne.
Nadir Ciftci has completed a £1.5m move from Dundee United to Celtic on a four-year deal.
Robin van Persie is close to joining Fenerbahce in Turkey after further talks between the clubs (Daily Maila)
According to the Daily Mail. A look at Barcelona transfers of the 10 best and 10 worst singings:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3154472/Barcelona-transfers-10-best-10-worst-signings-Lionel-Messi-penning-contract-restaurant-napkin-expensive-mistake-Zlatan-Ibrahimovic.html
Man Utd getting rid of lots of high wage earners. They must be in for a striker surely? I'm sensing a bid for Kane/Benteke.
I've no doubt they are going to buy some massive name this summer, just not quite sure who yet.
Steven Nzonzi has joined Sevilla from Stoke City for £7m after three years with Stoke.
I think it could be probably be Benteke if they bid for him.
Yohan Cabaye's move to Crystal Palace from PSG has been confirmed for a club-record fee of £10m.
Here's a look at BBC Sport's article of the Top 25 transfer targets:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33449924
Rumour that if United can't get one of their bigger targets they might put in a £15m bid for Diafra Sakho. Seems a bit far fetched.
Sterling back in training today.
I think it would be so delicious if City's increased bid never came.
Fabian Delph is set to undergo a medical and join Manchester City tomorrow. No news yet on what the transfer fee is. What do people make of this singing? Wherbouts would he play if he does manage to play in the first team or will he be a bench-warmer?
Delph will probably get a fair amount of game time as an alternative to Fernandinho. They need a wide player though.
Schweinstieger to Man Utd.
Brilliant signing if it comes off. I hate Man Utd But that's a good buy if he stays injury free.
I'm completely sceptical about that signing. At least we're making moves in the transfer market finally!
Delph has decided that he wants to stay at Aston Villa and has stated that he is not leaving Villa for Man City.
Stoke City have pulled out of a deal for Shaqiri and look set to sign Glen Johnson.
Newcastle United have completed a £14.5m move for Georginio Wijnaldum from PSV. The biggest single amount paid for a player since Mike Ashley took over as the owner.
So he realised he didn't want to do a Scott Sinclair huh.
Liverpool now in advanced negotiations with Man City for Raheem Sterling as clubs edge closer to a £50m deal [Telegraph]
Wonder if we'll get the signing of Sterling to Man City sometime this week. He'll definitely get a hostile reception from the Liverpool fans if he played against them for Man City at Anfield.
Porto has agreed a deal to sign Iker Casillas from Real Madrid. Looking likely for De Gea to move to Real now with the news of that signing.
Goodbye Raheem.
Usually I hate ex-players getting booed. Anfield will be hell for him that day.
So Sterling will become the most expensive English football player ever with a £49m move to Man City. Where he will earn over that £100k that he rejected. He could be described possibly by Liverpool fans as "Judas" following that move.
A look at the most expensive English footballers:
Raheem Sterling £49m (Liverpool to Manchester City [2015]
Andy Carroll £35m (Newcastle United to Liverpool [2011]
Rio Ferdinand £30m (Leeds United to Manchester United [2002]
Luke Shaw £30m (Southampton to Manchester United [2014]
Wayne Rooney £27m (Everton to Manchester United [2004]
James Milner £26m (Aston Villa to Manchester City [2010]
Adam Lallana £25m (Southampton to Liverpool [2014]
David Beckham £24.5m (Manchester United to Real Madrid [2003]
Darren Bent £24m (Sunderland to Aston Villa [2011]
Joleon Lescott £22m (Everton to Manchester City [2009]
Shaun Wright-Phillips £21m (Manchester City to Chelsea) [2005]
A decade ago you could get Zidane for that kind of money.
By all accounts he seems like a complete little shit, but it's hypocrisy of the highest order for Liverpool to bemoan him leaving. Every club buys players from smaller ones.
I've always been impressed with Sterling when I've seen him live. He was by far Liverpool's best player during their defeat at Upton Park last season and took us apart at Anfield. Some of his dribbling and quick feet remind me of a young Jermaine Defoe.
This is a good move for him. Sure, he won't play EVERY week, but I think he'll get in the Man City first team. He's nine years younger than Silva so maybe he's being lined up as the long-term replacement for him.
On another note, shame Begovic has gone to Chelsea. Stoke have now lost him and N'Zonzi this summer when they seemed on the verge of pushing on.
I can't believe that we actually pulled it off, the arrival of Schweinsteiger that is. I am SO f***ing happy. Plus we landed Schneiderlin too.
Unlike the last two years I'm not actively cringing at our activities in the transfer market. If we can steal away Ramos that would be outstanding, even if we can't keep ahold of De Gea (I will probably cry a little when he officially signs for Real)
(Not so gutted about RvP leaving. He's great but getting a little long in the tooth now. Plus with so many injuries he's just not as devastating as he once was.)
Today's Gossip Column:
PSG's Edinson Cavani is the "prime target" to replace Robin Van Persie at Manchester United (Talksport)
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, is at the top of Manchester United's attacking targets as manager Louis van Gaal prepares to take his summer spending to more than £300m (Daily Telegraph)
Manchester City will attempt to push their summer spending towards the £100m mark this week by securing the signing of Wolfsburg's Kevin de Bruyne (Daily Telegraph)
Really don't want Cavani at United, seems average everytime I've watched him. Lewandowski would be amazing though.
Good to see some useful transfer activity for once (and getting it done relatively early). I'm always weary over new signings who have never played in the PL before but Schweinsteiger I'm confident will hit the ground running & at least Schneiderlin has proved himself at Soton.
Robin van Persie has completed his deal to Fenerbahce and said that "there are no hard feelings" between him and Manchester United following the move.
Elsewhere
Carl Jenkinson has signed another season on loan with West Ham following signing a five-year contract with Arsenal.
Watford have completed the signing of Allan Nyom from Udinese on a four-year contract.
Brilliant purchases from Manchester United.
I'm guessing Valdes will be pushed as the number one now.
I'm guessing too when De Gea goes that Valdes will be the number one goalkeeper for Man United.
Can't see Valdes staying at Man Utd, he was left off the US tour and rumour is he's refused to play with the reserves.
They will buy a new keeper for sure when De Gea leaves.
EDIT - not a rumour at all, it's on the BBC!
It would have been nice to keep Raheem as I do think he is a very talented player, but I can't say I'm too bothered by him leaving.
I think most fans would recognise that Man City do have greater pull currently in terms of wages and the opportunity to win silverware. The issue really is to do with how his camp have leaked information and tried to force through a move.
£49m is a lot of money for a 20 year old and as long as the current players perform and the money is reinvested well, I doubt there'll be many tears
Hoping that Sunderland's new winger / striker Jeremain Lens can shine after his £8m transfer from Dynamo Kiev.
Jordie Clasie at Southampton looks like a good signing too.
Liverpool are spending 32m on Benteke.
What an awful piece of business.
Delph having a medical at Man City according to Sky Sports News. Villa fans not gonna like this at all, especially after saying he was going to stay!
What an absolute tosser.
That is hilarious.
I really hope we get Gervinho.
A season of bench-warming for Delph. Probably another Jack Rodwell/Scott Sinclair situation there for him at Man City.
In another news Yaya Sanogo was joined Ajax on season-long loan from Arsenal.
I wonder what changed Delph's mind? To be fair I think he has more chance of playing than Rodwell, as he's a little different to the other midfielders' City have. He will get a lot of game time, but not convinced he's up the required quality they need. Really does look like they've signed him because he's English. I applauded him for turning down the move, but he looks like a bit of a pray for going back on his word ha.
Praying that West Ham get Inverness in Europa League so I can travel to Inverness for the match.
Man City have completed the signing of Fulham's teenager Patrick Roberts. He becomes Man City's 3rd English signing of the season.
Chelsea looking to increase their bid for Everton's John Stones to £26m today according to the Daily Mail. Everton defiant that Stones will not be going.
Tottenham midfielder Benjamin Stambouli has joined PSG on a five-year deal and for a £6m fee. He made 14 appearances for Tottenham he joined with them last September from Montpellier.
Newcastle United have signed Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic for £13m- subject to a work permit. He becomes Newcastle's second signing following the £14.5m arrival of Georginio Wijnaldum.
West Ham have signed midfielder Manuel Lanzini on a season-long loan from UAE club Al Jazira
Also Watford have made two signings today in Miguel Britos who is best known for this:
And finally Watford also signed Jose Jurado.
EDIT:
Liverpool has officially completed the £32.5m signing for Christian Benteke from Aston Villa.
Who do people think this 'mystery' signing is that van Gaal has lined up? Wonder if they still wanna pay 22m for Pedro, seems overpriced to me.
They need a versatile forward who can stand in for Rooney or play with him and Depay in a front 3. So that means Pedro, Cavani or Muller.
Pedro would be a great addition. Funny how he was the best thing since sliced bread when Chelsea were linked with him a couple of weeks ago, and now..
I think Pedro would be a good addition, he's quality. Just again I'm not sure he's what Man Utd need. I think they would be best going for an out and out striker rather than a false #9 type.
Bayern Munich have agreed a deal with Juventus to sign Vidal and have said Thomas Muller will not be sold this summer.
Pellegrini has admitted that Edin Dzeko could leave the club. I could probably see Dzeko going to a Serie A side possibly. Roma most likely in my opinion.
Dzeko to Arsenal would be a fantastic singing.
Di Maria back to PSG (apparently).
End up going down as one of the worst transfers of all time, even though he wasn't really that bad.
Knew he would go there, looked the only viable option.
It's such a shame the whole di Maria thing didn't work out. He seemed to get squashed out of the system when Young-Fellaini-Mata came into play and when he did play seemed tired and lost. If he does go I'd expect us to buy Pedro and maybe a centre forward with the remaining funds. Seemingly we don't want a centre half anymore.
Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba, subject to a work permit. He is currently under investigation from FIFA because of over how old he is. He'll be Newcastle's third signing this season.
Inter Milan have announced that Steven Jovetic will be having a medical there possibly on a season-long loan or a permanent deal.
Yes definitely a shame that the Di Maria hasn't worked out again could have something to do with his home being broken into back in March which has affected him.
He started off very strongly indeed, capped by that audicious lob against Leicester but towards the end of the season he was even more of a donkey than Falcao in some games.
Although a stat overlooked was that he was third in the assists table I believe, very impressive considering how in & out of the team he was!
Although in all truthiness like Rooney has said. Di Maria probably just didn't fit into the team I guess.
I would love Liverpool to be able to sign a 63m flop and just move on at the end of the season, Rodgers would be ridiculed by the media no doubt.
I still don't think LVG is the correct manager to help Manchester United progress back as premier league champions and I believe if they under-perform in the league and the champions league this year then he could be axed considering the amount he's spending.
Most of the spending is Ed Woodward's doing too I would imagine, Louis is just pointing him in the right direction. Think any manager brought in would be championed to spend big. It's apparently the way we want to move forward for the next few years.
Signed Romero now on a free transfer. They have no chance of the title now if De Gea goes - mainly cos Romeo is absolute poop.
And I think the big names and spending is down to Man Utd's image, and the board. There's a newspaper quote today from LVG where he states they need 'better' players. Only problem is I think their strategy currently is a Galacticao retirement home, or mates of LVG.
Stoke City are set to sign former Barcelona defender Ibrahim Afellay as a free agent after he ended his four and a half year stay at Barcelona.
Also Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Cordoba defender Jose Angel Crespo. He is set to have a medical today.
Aston Villa have signed Jordan Ayew! Very good singing.
Cavani is the most overrated player in world football, never seen the fuss about him.
Shame di Maria didn't work out, as he's obviously a class player! Obviously not a fit at United, so best to take the money for him.
Which club do you think has done the best business so far? A lot of people would say Crystal Palace and Man United. Personally, I think Watford could surprise.
I actually think Stoke have done the best business so far. Punching above their perceived weight with numerous signings this summer!
Stoke have made some good signings, but they're all gambles. Lots if injury prone players, and Affelay is absolute trash now.
I think Swansea have made some good signings.
Man Us transfer committees reaction to Romero arriving to be their No2!
Sergio Ramos
Sergio Ramo
Sergio Ram ☺
Sergio R
Sergio Ro
Sergio Rom
Sergio Rome
Sergio Romer
Sergio Romero
If West Ham manage to offload Nolan and sign another striker, I think we're up there (no bias of course )
Arturo Vidal has joined Bayern Munich!
Newcastle have bid 13.2m for Charlie Austin. Newcastle are really prepared to splash the cash this summer! Apparently Man United's new singing is going to be Lukaku.
Aww not Lukaku... has brilliant spells but goes missing for half a dozen games in a row, similar to Benteke in that regard.
I disagree Steve.
Man United have been heavily criticised regarding their transfer activity in the last couple of years. Liverpool spent stupid money on Carroll but at least they managed 12m back while Chelsea lost all 50m of the Torres money.
I'm interested to see how Falcao does at Chelsea. I've never really seen a striker do that well at Chelsea and it's something that we need to improve on. Kezman, Mutu, Crespo, Torres, Kalou and Schevshenko with the only real hit being Drogba and arguably Costa.
I really hope he does well this season. I'm still thinking that this season will be a very close season and any of the top 4 could manage it.
A few non-story British defenders flitting about today. Elsewhere Szczesny joins Roma on a season-loan deal. There was a spell earlier this summer when I was genuinely convinced we were gonna replace De Gea with him. Praise the lord that didn't come off.
West Brom have signed Hull's James Chester for a fee of £8m.
Rickie Lambert has joined West Brom from Liverpool on a two-year deal.
Angel Di Maria is set to join PSG for £44.5 million.
Bye bye.
Leicester have agreed deals to sign Gokhan Inler and Charles Aranguiz from Serie A. Very good signings from a team widely tipped for relegation
Aranguiz in particular is a player I rate highly, scored against Spain for Chile in last year's World Cup!
It appears that Charles Aranguiz has ruled out a move to Leicester City as well as Gokhan Inler in favour of joining Fiorentina.
Leicester City have completed the signing of 28 year-old centre back Yohan Benaulouane from Ataltanta for an undisclosed fee and they have also signed N'Golo Kante from Caen.
Crystal Palace have signed Connor Wickham from Sunderland for £7m.
Surprised that Wickham is the one to leave, but hard to say no when Palace are willing to spend £9m on him. Could be a good deal for both sides.
Wickham is not worth that amount!
9m for Wickham Swear he's had one good run to keep Sunderland up in 2014, otherwise flatters to decieve! May prosper in a more adventureous Palace team though.
There was a time when I was actually disappointed he signed for Sunderland and not Liverpool
Man United's Rafael has joined Lyon for an undisclosed fee.
A £7m gamble there for Crystal Palace for Wickham. I would say Wickham is probably worth £2.5m to be honest.
£7m for a young English forward is probably the going rate in today's market. Especially when the deal is between two premier league clubs
Sergio Molina has become Stoke's 9th summer signing. He has been signed from Real Madrid.
Bournemouth have signed Lee Tomlin on a three-year deal from Middlesbrough.
It seems as if Edin Dzeko will be going to AS Roma for £14m from Man City.
Wow, guess their putting their utmost faith in Bony delivering then! Wonder how it'll work out if they don't buy a new striker (United-like)
Yann M'Vila has joined Sunderland on a season-long loan from Russian club Rubin Kazan. He becomes Sunderland's fifth summer signing.
Also the Di Maria transfer from PSG to Man United has been confirmed.
At least Di Maria's hoard of shit denim will not be as prevalent on my twitter feed.
According to Sky Sports News. Joey Barton is having a medical at West Ham.
What people make of this possible signing?
He's an upgrade on Nolan, assuming we actually get rid of Nolan now.
West Brom broke their transfer record yesterday with the £12m signing of Salomon Rondon from Zenit St Petersberg.
The long-running saga of Shaqiri from Inter Milan to Stoke City looks like it will be completed today possibly.
EDIT: Confirmed for a club-record fee of £12m.
Southampton have signed midfielder Oriol Romeu for £5 million from Chelsea.
AS Roma have signed Edin Dzeko on a season-long loan from Manchester City with a option to pay a further £7.9m if they want to make the deal permanent along with the initial fee of £2.9m they have paid Man City.
Was Edin Dzeko a fantastic shit player or an awful amazing player? I think he'd be LOCKED IN to receive EITHER AWARD for the Premier League in Review Awards.
He always seemed to be the back-up player for Man City and playing against the lesser opposition in cup matches e.g. League Cup/ FA Cup.
Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign defender Baba Rahman from Augsburg for an undisclosed fee.
Real Madrid have confirmed that Sergio Ramos will sign a new five-year contract with them ending any hope that Man United had of signing him.
Guess De Gea's staying at United then for one last year!
The whole Ramos/De Gea saga has been a complete and utter farce.
Pleasingly this means that De Gea will not be going anywhere this year! At this point I think United would rather let De Gea walk as a free agent (We gain more in £££ terms from him staying than he's worth in transfer fees) than do any deal with Real Madrid.
Thankfully we can now move on to the COMPLETE NON-STORY of where Otamendi ends up.
Are you Man Utd fans really happy that De Gea's staying? I guess it depends how professional and commited he is, but ultimately you have a player who will be playing in Madrid next season. Van Gaal's hung him out to dry in the media, I can't see how his mentality will be much better just because the transfer window has closed.
I admire Man Utd for putting their foot down originally, as it took balls, but the risk obviously backfired. Madrid won't pay anything for a player they know they can get for free in 12 months time.
It will definitely depend on how professional and committed he is. If he isn't gonna want to play then I don't see why he should stay at Man Utd this season only to see out his contract so he can move to Madrid for free next season.
Away from that:
Everton have rejected a £30m bid offer from Chelsea for John Stones and have mentioned that he is still not for sale.
Also West Brom have rejected a £15m bid from Tottenham for Saido Berahino.
If he wants to play for Spain in the Euro's then he's going to need time on the pitch for United so he'll have to be professional and committed.
He's one of the world's best goal keepers. I'm thrilled he's staying. It gives us a season to try to convince him to stay and to plan like absolute crazy so we can cope without him.
Yeh he will be worth 10 pts at least although I agree with Rooney about his mentality and van Gaals treatment.
That doesn't mean he won't be a pro and try and win the league this season if he stays at United even if he wants to be at Madrid?!
United were trying to call Perez's bluff. It's not very Real to wait it out for a whole year for a player they could throw money at and have now. I think United assumed they'd come back with a monstrous offer or a stupid swap deal.
Really hoping Chelsea attempt to sign Varane.
Surprised Everton have rejected 30m for Stones, it could have allowed Martinez 4 new players.
Chelsea are in for Pedro apparently.
Cuadrado leaving wouldn't bother me.
He's not really done much at Chelsea but his playing time has been incredibly limited. I'm guessing he will return to Italy.
Chelsea have agreed a fee with Barcelona for Pedro , I was fairly sure that he would be coming to Old Trafford instead but it looks like Chelsea are going to nick him from underneath the nose of Man Utd.
Twitter is rife with 'United now in for Saido Mane' rumours. Take from that what you will.
From Pedro to Mane - wow, talk about a downgrade.
Good player, but he won't improve the Man Utd starting XI like Pedro would.
I don't understand what has happened. Ed was over in Barcelona a few days ago ironing out the details. Something has misfired and I can't imagine it'd be wages.
Mane, definitely quite a downgrade from Pedro.
Whatever happened to this surprise signing?
Newcastle have signed Florian Thauvin from Marseille on a five-year contract for £12m with Remy Caballa being loaned over to the French club.
In terms of pace and killer instinct I'd say Mane is definitely more of the 'Van Gaal ethos' than Pedro. By no means a better player than him but certainly more like-minded towards the infamous philosophy. What a weird twist in the tale.
Alex Sandro has signed for Juventus from Porto for £18.6m
Man City have signed Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia on a five-year deal for an initial £28.5m.
I don't get Otamendi. Granted I've not seen much of him but from what I have seen (and judging on City performances thus far) it is highly possible Mangala could well keep him out the side yes?
Balotelli is set to join AC Milan on loan from Liverpool sometime this week.
And Berhaino has had a transfer request rejected by West Brom over Tottenham wanting to sign him.
Kevin Nolan has apparently left West Ham by mutual consent.
Know I've slagged him off, but he's been a great captain and an important player for 3 seasons under Allardyce. Time definitely right to move on now.
Are Spurs going for Son, or is it a double bluff for Berahino? Either way I think Spurs have screwed themselves over big time.
What Son want to join Tottenham now Leverkusen are in the group stages of the Champions League?
They need both Son & Berahino. Can't believe they've got themselves in to this position, reminds me so much of Liverpool last year and panic buying Balotelli.
They've now got him, Delle Ali, Kane, Eriksen, Chadli, Lamela and Townsend. That looks like enough to me - they need a top class midfielder though. Or to start actually using Tom Carroll.
West Brom have agreed a deal to sign Man United's Jonny Evans for £6m + £2m add-ons.
Another player from the Ferguson team of 2012/13 to go.
De Bruyne is set to have a medical for Manchester City which will break the fee that they paid for Sterling.
Ludicrous. On what planet is he worth anywhere near that much?
In Man City's planet and Wolfsburg's probably.
Kevin De Bruyne has completed his signing for the noisy neighbours.
Man United are set to complete the £36m signing of Anthony Martial from Monaco.
So it begins... his scoring record isn't even that impressive. Can't see this transfer being much of a success sadly but time will tell!
West Ham closing in on FOUR signings before the window shuts tomorrow.
Nikica Jelavic from Hull and Michail Antonio from Nottingham Forest will join permanently while loan deals for Victor Moses and Alex Song should also go through.
Adds much needed depth to the squad with all the injuries and departures of Nolan and Maiga.
The sale of Evan's irritates me. He's far better than that prick Jones and yet we've extended that useless twat's deal Sold the wrong player there.
I'm not convinced about the signing of Martial. The last 'gifted' player we took from Monaco worked out so well.
Javier Hernandez has signed for Bayer Leverkusen. I am really going to miss him, he always made a positive impact whenever he played barring a few occasions and I think Louis Van Gaal should have started him in matches this season. I'm not surprised and I don't blame him for leaving, he looked unhappy in recent times and I think it's clear that he wasn't going to feature much in the manager's plans.
He will always be remembered by the fans mainly for his first season at Man Utd when he helped us win the title.
De Gea going to Madrid for £29m. So much for trying to block the sale. Man Utd really been badly screwed over here. Admirable to try and keep De Gea, but was obvious Ramos was using Man Utd and never really wanted to leave Madrid. Very naive. Hope for your sakes you get Navas.
Well I guess that was somewhat inevitable. The richer club will always get what they what, this will be the case with Chelsea & John Stones too no doubt.
The De Gea situation is the same as what happened with Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009. Real Madrid were constantly trying to sway Ronaldo's mind in the weeks leading up to his departure and Man Utd tried to keep him but ultimately money and the chance of being closer to home were too much to resist.
Think we have got more keepers than strikers now! Every match so far the cameras loved panning to De Gea, Valdés & Lindegaard in the stands looking completely fed up
Anyway good luck to De Gea, he can go to Madrid and watch Barcelona win all of the trophies. As the old saying goes no one is bigger than the club and in time we'll have an adequate replacement no matter how long it takes.
Rojo transferred listed by Man Utd as well. This is too funny Car boot sale times. Martial for £58m, can tell Man Utd are going to do something crazy again tomorrow.
Rojo being listed is bizarre.
Wow you can't make this up, De Gea's move to Madrid looks to be off because of late paperwork. Hilarious. Going to lose him on a free now.
What is actually happening? I've been out of the transfer loop for 6 days and all hell breaks loose.
Rojo was apparently a bit of a troublemaker so can understand that, definitely a behind-the-scenes job. Something absolutely f***ing mental is about to happen.
Louis Van Gaal is slowly destroying all of the legacies of Fergie. Once De Gea leaves it will only be Rooney, Smalling, Valencia, Jones, Carrick & Young that are left from the first team during Sir Alex's time.
Deadline day is finally here and it promises to be a crazy and unpredictable day filled with yellow on Sky Sports News and funny behaviour from fans in the background of the cameras.
Will they regret selling Hernandez to Leverkusen?
Left with Valdes wanting to move, De Gea leaving on a free transfer next season and Romero.
So far:
West Ham:
Antonio, Moses (loan), Song (loan), Jelavic
Watford:
Oulare- from Club Brugge
Aston Villa:
Lescott from West Brom
Sarkic from Anderlecht
Southampton:
van Dijk from Celtic
Bournemouth:
Murray from Crystal Palace
Chelsea:
Dijlobodji from Nantes
Everton:
Mori from River Plate
We've officially signed a 5 year old from Monaco for £1.87bn. Real are trying to pin the blame on United for the failed transfer. It clearly happened so late that they 'accidentally' f***ed up so they could get him free next year.
We have 8 months to convince him to stay. Rumour's from his agent is that hope is not lost for United.
David De Gea will leave whenever the next opportunity comes, he's already shown that he doesn't want to be at Manchester United anymore so there's no point trying to convince him to stay permanently. Louis Van Gaal will probably keep him out of the first team for the rest of our matches until he leaves.
Derby have managed to sign Butterfield from Huddersfield for approx £4 million and Bradley Johnson from Norwich for a club record £6 million today! Not sure where all this money is coming from considering we already broke our original transfer record when we bought Tom Ince for £4.75 million and have made plenty of other signings too, I hope it pays off despite our slow start.
They will blame each and one other over the De Gea situation won't they?
How do you feel your club has done in this summer's transfer window?
United have released their own statement and it varies wildly from Real's.
http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2015/Sep/manchester-united-statement-in-response-to-real-madrid-comments-on-david-de-gea-transfer.aspx?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=ManUtd
Think we've ended the transfer window really strongly. The amount of injuries at West Ham left the squad so stretched in August, as the sub's bench at Anfield showed. However, with all the new signings and the eventual return of the likes of Carroll, Song, Valencia etc, we look as strong as is possible for West Ham
Great that a lot of deadwood was released too. Jussi, Carlton and Nolan all served the club well but their time was up. Shame Downing left, but we've covered the wings now and Maiga was just out of his depth. Players like O'Brien, Jarvis, Amalfintano & Collins remain but as back-ups they're not terrible (unless relied upon for months).
Competition for places everywhere but full-backs now I think.
Think Liverpool have had a good window, made some good signings, but our midfield still worries me. We lack match winners.
The whole Man Utd and Real Madrid thing if farcical, I mean I've no idea whose side to believe. If I'm honest I think it's probably half and half. It does look as if Man Utd sat on the documents for 8 hours, then Real probably made a few changes, then it led to the delay. What's crazy is you have a player who wants to play, but I don't think his heart is in it for United, especially not with the big drama that's happened. It's crazy that this situation has happened, and it's the fault of both clubs as clearly both were trying to pull fast ones over each other.
This deadline day didn't seem as dramatic to me as I thought that it would be (barring the De Gea situation). Maybe it's because it didn't go up to 11pm like it normally did in previous times.
My favourite deadline days were:
September 2008: when Berbatov joined Man Utd & Robinho joined Man City late in the night and loads of people was surprised by Robinho's decision to join Manchester City meanwhile it was looking like Berba wasn't going to complete his transfer in time.
February 2009: When Andrey Arshavin joined Arsenal after the transfer was delayed due to a snowstorm in London
January 2011: When Torres joined Chelsea for 50 Million pounds
I remember seeing the hyped up Arsenal fans surrounding the journalist on Sky Sports News when the news of Mesut Ozil's signing came through as well.
Madrid had the whole of June, July AND August to finalise a deal, though, and waited until the last day to attempt to fish out the best deal possible for themselves. I fully understand Dave's reasons for wanting to leave, mainly family related, but he's a fool if he believes he'll be welcomed with open arms in Madrid. He's at a club with fans who love him. I've no doubt in my mind he's a consummate professional who will give his all for another year though, assuming he is allowed back in team (freezing him out would be suicidal, Romero is a number two at his utter best)
