He deserves to be in there ahead of Crouch, definitely. And as no one seems to know what position Walcott should play that would only give us Rooney, Defoe and Agbonlahor.

Any Comments on Capello's latest selection?

Yes - I have one:

He broke into the first team this season, looks a really decent prospect. They must rate him highly to have sold Woodgate and Riggot. He's scored about four goals too so is good in the air.

Had hoped Jags would be there, has performed excellent at the back for Everton this season, hopefully soon though...

I'm so glad Capello's put Walcott, Agbonlahor, Wheater etc. in. These games are the type of games that these sorts of players should be playing in. Hopefully some of them should make the cut...

He was good against Birmingham the other night, plus which striker is the one who always delivers for England?

and what happened to Mr Capello picking the in form players rather than the big names. Scoring one goal in ages against a fellow relegation threatened team doesn't make him the hottest striker around laugh.gif

That's exactly what he's doing huh.gif He looked really sharp on Tuesday so he picked him! Same with all the rest! Is Wheater a big name? Were Barry or Bentley big names this time last year? People make themselves big names by playing great performances, as I said how often is Owen off form for England? Managing to play like that when you get such awful service really showed how good he was and so he's played himself into the squad. Even Frank Lampard has done well recently!

I really don't think John Terry should start however as some of the other defenders have been playing better than him so it'd be interesting to see who'll be captain (Gareth Barry has emerged as a suprise contender now it seems ohmy.gif )

Anyway who right now would you pick over Owen then? tongue.gif He won't play much of a part I don't think.

But who else is there? Johnson, Heskey, Ashton - all good players but i'd rather Owen in the squad. Even if he doesn't play, he's a good mentor towards the younger players coming through the set-up. Owen's the sort of player that thrives on confidence anyway, maybe his goal against Birmingham might spur him into a little bit of form now (baring any injures of course).

This is the line-up I'd play right now:

                          James

Johnson Ferdinand Wheater A Cole

Beckham Gerrard ( C ) Barry J Cole

Agbonlahor Defoe/Rooney

Possible subs during the game:

Kirkland > James
Lescott > Wheater
Hargreaves > Barry
Young > J Cole
Defoe/Rooney > Defoe/Rooney

I'd play Wayne Bridge over Ashley Cole. sick2.gif It's a shame he didn't get sent off against Spurs as he doesn't deserve to be our first left back.

Jolean Lescott should get the left back position over both Bridge and Cole in my opinion. He's outperformed them both all the way through the season and effortlessly slips into the left back role. Plus he's getting week-in-week-out football at Goodison.

I read an interesting article before outlining how Kevin Davies should be getting an England call-up and it did make some very valid points. Granted he's not got the perfect goals-per-game average but as an old fashioned supporting striker he's one of the best around. Would be interesting to see a possible set-up whereby he was placed just behind an out and out goalscorer [best bet would be Jermain Defoe right now] and playing Rooney on the right wing. That way they're not as reliant on crosses [as Defoe isn't the tallest attacker..] and more predominantly bulky up front. We've seen time and again that the 4-5-1 long ball up type structure won't work for England so perhaps a bit more rugged strength up front could work.

I'm not saying it WOULD work as Davies is a bit of a liability but friendlies like these are certainly the games to rotate around and experiment with..

Davies only suits a long-ball system. I like him but for England? No chance!

hmm no, he's been missing for a long time for Bolton.

Don't have the form, don't get the call. Friendly or no friendly.
